RetweetThe New Jersey Jihadi DVD Mistake

Tue, May 8, 2007 at 12:56:32 pm PDT

The real hero of the Fort Dix attack plot is the video store worker who reported these would-be jihadis, when one of them brought in a terror training videotape he wanted to transfer to DVD. Big LGF kudos to this unnamed person. Let’s hope CAIR doesn’t sue you.

But we should be glad that holy warriors are often not the sharpest tacks in the drawer. Just as Richard Reid would probably have succeeded in his shoe bomb plot if he had stopped at the gift shop and bought a cigarette lighter instead of using matches to light his shoes, these guys could have gone to Radio Shack and bought a CameraMate VideoSafe for $40.00, and transferred the tape themselves.

I'm just glad that John Doe had the foresight to call the FBI about that DVD. What if some leftard or any slack-jaw had been behind the counter? We could be looking at a lot of dead soldiers.

Never discount the stupidity of the jihadis concerning the war on terror. Gawd these people are ignorant...there is absolutely no excuse for these people to be allowed to win anything.

That's why I don't think the next attack will by plane. Most Americans ain't going to wait around in the aisle to see if Abdul is really wired or not. But they will be fired up to do some serious ass stompin'.

18 Peacekeeper  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:06:39pm

Charles ain't giving away anything, this was THE key piece of evidence and had it not been revealed CAIR would be screamin it was a made up case.

20 religion of bacon  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:07:32pm

That's no lie. Heck they tell us point blank they want us dead and hate our way of living yet the libs only hear that it is Bush's fault. They jihadists are stupid enough to not even make their mission secret.

29 Buck  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:09:10pm

The reason they didn't think there would be a problem sending this out, is because they don't think there is anything wrong about the video.

I have delt with these wacko's and they really don't understand why we are resisting. They have seen the future and it is Islam (Allah willing). Why put up such a fuss?

Again the video doesn't show anything actually illegal, and these idiots thought that was the standard they had to worry about. This sort of thing is sold openly in Mosques all over the world.

It actually was just the ticket to get the attention of the FBI. The scary thing is, of course, we all know the FBI would have ignored this sort of thing only a few years ago.

30 americanjew  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:09:27pm

Oh come on. I suppose that saying that one should release the safety before pulling the trigure is assisting the terrorists? It's not like they're reading this blog.

Here's how to make sure they don't read any potentially dangerous information: before any bit of potentially useful advice, post a pick of a babe in a bikini. That'll keep the jihadis form reading it.

31 gymnast  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:09:46pm

I can't help but think who would have been the people looking like clowns had these clowns succeeded. I also wonder where this would have gone had we not had the patriot act to facilitate the investigation of these clowns.

32 Occasional Reader  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:10:05pm

It's true that there's a gray area between "secret info" and "non-secret info that it's probably better not to disclose in public."

At this point, though, I'd say posting this particular info is harmless. Even if there is another dumb Junior Jihadi cell out there on the verge of sending their "training" video to DVD, at this point they're on notice (from all the headlines) that it's a bad move.

33 Charles  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:10:10pm

Cheney in the Middle East: Defining Key Issues and Mutual Interests

Vice President Dick Cheney departed today on a trip to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan. A bland statement issued from his office on May 3 said he was asked to travel by President Bush and would be having "discussions with the leaders of these countries on key issues of mutual interest." No details were offered of the subjects of these discussions, but vice presidents do not travel halfway around the world unless there is important business to conduct.

It seems reasonable to assume that the situation in Iraq and the challenge posed by Iran's nuclear project will be central, with perhaps some discussion of the Middle East peace process. The four Arab countries were named in March as an "Arab Quartet" that Washington hoped would help revive the Arab peace plan. Despite the prevailing congressional and press judgment that Cheney plays a less central role in administration policymaking than formerly, the vice president's agenda likely also includes some issues that can only be decided by the heads of state he meets.

37 BLBfootballs  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:12:37pm

I agree--the video store owner obviously violated the civil rights of these gentlemanly jihadis by boxing them into a stereotypical profile and turning them in to the FBI--in effect they were violated twice: First by our racist, oppressive society which puts obstacles in front of sincere jihadis at every step, and then by our neo-imperialist law enforcement agencies.

Presumably CAIR and the ACLU will be working on the lawsuit by this evening.

For instance, as a lawyer I would never, ever publicly disclose that if you are planning on hijacking a plane, and slip the gate agent a note in advance announcing your intentions (and clearly identifying yourself), they are legally bound to help you carry out your plan. Don't anyone tell the jihadis, okay?!

Problem is that occasionally there are some fairly smart idiots. Some of the boys from 9/11 had a fairly sophisticated education. Granted, its usually dumbos like Reid that get recruited by the old men, but I would never put dumb and "Muslim terrorist" together in the same sentence without saying that "not all are". I would also not put Muslim and terrorist together in the same sentence without saying that also. It is the unfortunate case however that we are getting a fair number of them these days in which the sets overlap.

US attack 'kills Iraqi children'

An attack by a US helicopter against suspected insurgents in Iraq has killed a number of children at a primary school, Iraqi security sources say.
The attack took place in Diyala province north-east of Baghdad, the sources say.

A spokesman for the US military said there had been helicopter activity in the area but he was not able to confirm any other details.

The school is in the village of al-Nedawat close to the Iranian border.

52 simonml  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:18:26pm

Charles did nothing wrong here. To tell the truth, we were probably lucky these guys were dumb enough to get caught this way. As more and more younger (and thus technologically educated) Muslims are indoctrinated into radicalism, I think we'll see much more technology savvy terrorism taking place.

Its only a matter of time. I'm willing to bet that over time these people will learn the right way to pull off their destructive attacks on America. The only hope we have is staying vigilant in exposing them for what they are, not what they claim to be.

Until then, we might as well hold seminars explaining better terror techniques for these guys. At least then we'd know which ones to keep an eye on.

66 lawhawk  Tue, May 8, 2007 1:22:36pm

The jihadis will continue to make mistakes and we'll get lucky in stopping them. The problem is when we don't. Whether it is due to failing to connect the dots or the jihadi wises up and figures out operational security and doesn't let anyone else know what they're planning, a jihadi can and will eventually succeed again.

Law enforcement has to be perfect 100% of the time to prevent another terrorist attack. The jihadis just have to get one attack right. Their ideology pushes them to keep trying, even if it seems futile. They have to keep attacking the US. But at least there are folks out there who, if they notice something strange, are not afraid to speak out and say something.

Kudos to the person who tipped the law enforcement off to the jihadis.

Charles, I agree somewhat with those who say that one shouldn't post this info, but not for the same reason that others have stated: I don't think we've revealed any earthshaking information to the terrorists, but rather the issue is this:

The leftosphere will now accuse you of trying to help the terrorists.

Yes, I know it makes no sense (just like they said Bush was "defunding the troops" when he vetoed their withdrawal bill), but that's how the left operates.

On a more mundane note: that Radio Shack site is freezing my browser, and I get a default error page there anyway.

I called the cops after 9/11. Driving home from Maine I saw a minivan full of middle eastern men on 95 in NH and they were pouring over papers in the back with the light on. The weird thing was the back seats were facing each other instead of forward. It had Quebec plates. All I could think of was that they had crossed the border and were headed to who knows where. They were driving VERY slowly in the right lane and when I looked at the van as I passed they put their papers away and shut out the light

The state trooper was very nice and didn't make me feel like a fool. I told him they were driver was erratic and he said they would check it out. I don't know what - if anything ever happened, but it would have nagged at me for a long time if I hadn't done something.

It was OBVIOUSLY another Zionazi FALSE FLAG operation. The global TRANS-NATIONAL corporations along with the Invisible Army are one step CLOSER to their plan of establishing A FASCIST REICH in the United Snakes of Amerikkka. September 11th wasn’t first and Katrina wasn’t the last. Capitalism, Nation states and a culture of consumerism have conspired to make our planet more and more unstable. The fear inspired by disasters plays into the hands of those destroying people, animals and the planet for profit. Sarkozy has spoken of ending the uprising of May, 1968, for once and for all. But in 1968 already there were groups of rich white kids roaming the streets and beating up on workers and students. Each of us, six billion people was created from orgasm. What would happen if we addressed this fundamental aspect of being human directly? The appropriate term is precarity- the regime by which human beings are treated like other "inputs" in the production process like fuel or soy beans.

PREVENTING TERRORIST ATTACK:
How You Can Help.

08/02/04

Counterterrorism This is a message that bears repeating, no matter where you live in the world: Your assistance is needed in preventing terrorist acts.

It's a fact that certain kinds of activities can indicate terrorist plans that are in the works, especially when they occur at or near high profile sites or places where large numbers of people gather--like government buildings, military facilities, utilities, bus or train stations, major public events. If you see or know about suspicious activities, like the ones listed below, please report them immediately to the proper authorities. In the United States, that means your closest Joint Terrorist Task Force, located in an FBI Field Office. In other countries, that means your closest law enforcement/counterterrorism agency.

Surveillance: Are you aware of anyone video recording or monitoring activities, taking notes, using cameras, maps, binoculars, etc., near key facilities/events?

Suspicious Questioning: Are you aware of anyone attempting to gain information in person, by phone, mail, email, etc., regarding a key facility or people who work there?

Tests of Security: Are you aware of any attempts to penetrate or test physical security or procedures at a key facility/event?

Acquiring Supplies: Are you aware of anyone attempting to improperly acquire explosives, weapons, ammunition, dangerous chemicals, uniforms, badges, flight manuals, access cards or identification for a key facility/event or to legally obtain items under suspicious circumstances that could be used in a terrorist attack?

Suspicious Persons: Are you aware of anyone who does not appear to belong in the workplace, neighborhood, business establishment or near a key facility/event?

"Dry Runs": Have you observed any behavior that appears to be preparation for a terrorist act, such as mapping out routes, playing out scenarios with other people, monitoring key facilities/events, timing traffic lights or traffic flow, or other suspicious activities?

Deploying Assets: Have you observed abandoned vehicles, stockpiling of suspicious materials, or persons being deployed near a key facility/event?

If you answered yes to any of the above...if you have observed any suspicious activity that may relate to terrorism...again, please contact the Joint Terrorist Task Force or law enforcement/counterterrorism agency closest to you immediately. Your tip could save the lives of innocent people, just like you and yours.
/bears repeating

Fjordman, banning Muslim immigration only stems the tide of the incoming; what about the ones who are already here and breeding like gnats?

Yes, like the Hizballah sleeper cells in Detroit, MI, or Plainfield, IL., or Virginia, or any of the other states and American cities.

These lesser acts of terrorism and attempted terrorism, are attempts to "probe" America, for how America reacts, while CAIR uses every one of these attempt by the terrorists, to try and pull some kind of a "lawsuit" aginst Patriotic Americans, to try and make it a crime to even report a serious, confirmed attempt at terrorism.

We have the Democrats, who have done, and continue to do, everything in their power to obstruct our government from protecting us from these vermin, and then we have CAIR, who may be running a "legal"/deception front group for these very terrorists, in my opinion.

Islamic terrorists strike, or attempt to strike, and CAIR then screams "ISLMOPHOBIA", to try and throw people off.

Meanwhile, the Democrats aid CAIR, by refusing to pass legislation protecting any American who may report suspicous, or even confirmed terrorist activity.

Good campaign commercial fodder for the GOP.

these guys could have gone to Radio Shack and bought a CameraMate VideoSafe for $40.00, and transferred the tape themselves.

If these guys aren't the sharpest tools in the box, then WHY are we giving out helpful terror tips?

190 akak  Tue, May 8, 2007 2:16:45pm

Interesting the John Mohammed DC Sniper links in this case?

pretty much diagram worthy...probably similar to the one from the weekend?

Sheesh. These devices are for sale everywhere, not just Radio Shack. It was a complete accident the jihadis were caught this way, not a secret plan. Come on, folks.

I totally agree with Charles. There are quite a few of these devices. Charles mentioned only the cheapest(?) one. There sre some very advanced ones which convert video to MPEG-2 and/or MPEG-4 on the fly. Man, do they rock or what?

Charles, have you actually used one of these? On Radio Hack's site, it has only two customer reviews, and they only gave it one star.

They'd be better off with a Sony DVDirect. But it ain't 40 bucks.

Wow, they've changed the DVDirects. I've got one of the original VRD-VC10s, and it doesn't look anything like those.

Wow, French horns are pretty gay.

There's this annoying woman who plays French horn in the DSO, and every time she gets a break, she spins the horn around to clear the spit out of it -- no, I'm not kidding. After reading these "gay horn" comments, it's going to be really hard not to bust out snickering the next time she does that.

"In case you are interested, Code Pink is staging a Mothers Day Parade in Manhattan this Sunday.

Here's the info:

Meet: at Columbus Circle (59th St. & Broadway) by the statue step off 11:15, ending at 1:30. Stroll for as long as you can.
Route: up Broadway to 66th Street, right to Columbus Avenue, up Columbus, through the flea/farmer's market at 77th Street, to the Columbus Ave. Mother's Day Art Fair around the American Museum of
Natural History. We'll read the proclamation on the steps of the museum, and then go into the park and head for the boathouse. Energy, time and weather permitting, we'll finish at the Metropolitan Museum of
Art."

If there's any justice, the statue of Theodore Roosevelt will come alive and the "warmonger" (not to mention, "friend of the Jews") TR will "bully" whip the women back into their Upper West Side brownstones and condos. TR was a lot of things but "friend of the pacifists" was not one of them.

The odds of a moonbat clerk informing the FBI would be considerably lower.

You can just hook up a camcorder or VCR with a homemade tape directly into a DVD recorder's composite inputs with a cable. No gizmo needed.

If those "militants" had just asked me, I could have saved them a world of trouble!

We should initiate a survey on Kos asking this question:

If you were the clerk, would you:

1. Congratulate the perps and ask to join them;
2. Just do your job, because saying anythign would be racist and insensitive; or
3. Called Nancy Pelosi for a screening?

217 Trencavel  Tue, May 8, 2007 4:49:54pm

Yo, Charles! Ya think it was the smartest thing to bring to the jihadiots attention, not only their mistake but a $40 solution to correct it?

We know they read LGF - in the future let's let them find their own technological fixes for their teeny tiny terrorists minds.

Love you, respect you, always faithful to LGF but, this was not your finest hour buddy.

218 big L  Tue, May 8, 2007 5:18:10pm

7 dopefish...hahahahha!Lololol.
they never learn, Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids...
But don't tell them too much-- unless it is wrong info.

219 Charles  Tue, May 8, 2007 6:31:03pm

Again.

The video converter above is available at every Radio Shack in the United States (more than 6,000 at last count), and the need to convert videotape to DVD is so common that there are (probably) dozens of similar products.

And don't shoot me for even mentioning it, but there are (gasp!) other ways to convert tape to DVD as well.

This is not even remotely secret information, and it was a complete accident that these guys were caught this way. And it wasn't LGF that revealed how they were caught -- it was the feds.

With all respect to the lizard army, there's a whole lot of over-reacting going on here.

220 Trencavel  Tue, May 8, 2007 6:47:47pm

Charles - I wasn't crucifying you. It's just that giving them anything, any intel at all that hasn't cost them in some form (like an accidental detonation) is more than I want them to have.

Let them earn every damn thing they get - the hard way.

221 Once and Future Angeleno  Tue, May 8, 2007 7:21:45pm

Charles, please take it down.

I agree with the peanut gallery: why educate our intended murderers? Is this providing 'aid and comfort' to our enemies?

Please take it down. It may be common knowledge to you, but not to the average jihadi.

222 Charles  Tue, May 8, 2007 7:33:04pm

What if the next group of jihadis is caught by a vigilant Radio Shack clerk, who notices suspicious behavior from the guy who's buying the CameraMate VideoSafe?

Terror attacks are not going to be prevented by "hiding" commonly available information. They're prevented when people use their eyes and brains, and all the information they have -- as in this case.

223 Random63  Tue, May 8, 2007 7:33:58pm

I can't get that device to work very well for me. I have yet to be able to record a video on my computer with it. Tried to move it to my laptop from my desktop and the anti piracy crap kicked in and wouldn't let me. Sheesh! Waste of my money.

224 ratherdashing  Tue, May 8, 2007 7:43:33pm

Charles' post wont lead to the next terrorist attack. Relax folks. But, what I don't understand is why the feds announce how they caught the guys. Why announce publicly that an informant was involved? Next up, why does the Fort Dix spokesperson announce the security procedures on base? Then, why does our military announce its next tactic in Baghdad or its new weapon introduced in the campaign? Those are bigger gaffs in my estimation. Shut up about it.

225 tblot  Tue, May 8, 2007 7:51:12pm

Thats pretty crazy this is what we have in these pretty lame terrious. I like to know who we caught that they the enemy does not know

226 Trencavel  Tue, May 8, 2007 8:03:06pm

I'm not advocating "hiding" anything - impossible to hide anything anymore anyhow.

I'm also not comparing the idiocy of the Feds or the morons at Dix gift wrapping their security procedures nor in-theater military administrators showcasing how smart or technologically superior we are to the detriment of the ground forces to Charles' post.

I am not implying the post will lead to an attack - I am simply saying that we shoudn't give them a fucking thing. Nothing. Nada. Zero. Zilch.

The reasoning and rationale of that basic concept should be self-evident.

It's so nice to read your return to this web log! I read with pleasure your "Troll Hammer", and I've looked forward to your return. That was a very well written piece, and it was a very enjoyable read. Due, probably, to my inexperience, I think it's a shame that we have so few trolls to whack with it. Again, welcome back.

And, if you're another Nekama, oops, my bad.

228 adela  Tue, May 8, 2007 8:08:32pm

Maybe the would-be terrorists were dumb enough to not have known how to convert a video tape into a dvd,but from now on,no matter how dumb they were, they got the clue, they studied the above picture and mapquested the directions to their nearest radio shack store...

229 PrimePowerPro  Tue, May 8, 2007 8:20:21pm

#219, 222 Charles

I know these are good, well intentioned folks, but, regarding this topic, I refer you to the Prime Directive regarding trolls. Don't feed it, let it starve. They obviously don't get the idea that we are swimming in a sea of information, and that dripping bits of data while we are several fathoms deep is insignificant. BTW, I love the looks of derision that I get while wearing my LGF T-shirts; they get the sweetest smile I have ever given in return. Pinheads.

230 Hooray for Captain Spaulding  Tue, May 8, 2007 8:23:06pm

Charles has too much class to tell you people this (I have none)

GET A LIFE! Radio Shack is open to everyone. WHat next? You cant talk about cell phones because someone might use it to detonate a bomb? How about info on reloading bullets.

Drop the nonsense.

231 tblot  Tue, May 8, 2007 8:38:43pm

wow these guys flew planes into the towers they are not dumb but we are not too when I hear of these stories I always think what we don't know,

Loose lips sink ships.

233 Once and Future Angeleno  Tue, May 8, 2007 11:15:27pm

One more time: please take down the link and the photo and info! It's pretty simple: if the dork who made the video and wanted to copy it had had knowledge of the gizmo pictured above, he wouldn't have gone to the video store, the vid clerk wouldn't have been able to tip the FBI, and we wouldn't be relieved these turkeys failed...because they might not have been caught in time and might not have failed. Don't educate the enemy.

234 Charles  Wed, May 9, 2007 8:15:14am

This is really getting silly. Now I'm "educating the enemy?"

Maybe I should just shut down LGF altogether. After all, almost every post here contains information that might "educate the enemy."

Please, people. Use your heads. I've explained my position on this over and over, and I'm not going to take down the post.

235 Spionator  Wed, May 9, 2007 9:20:24am

I concur. Privacy doesn´t kill people, people kill people.
