Gotta love this one (unless you’re Larry Johnson) as Ace of Spades exposes another probable anti-war fraud, an “internal memo” with a “military logo” that turns out to be … a Hummel figurine.

Who knows? Maybe the military does use Hummel knicknacks in their mastheads. Seems doubtful, though.

UPDATE at 5/26/07 2:25:15 pm:

Hummelgate hits the Washington Post; they quote from the memo in this article: Taste of Home Runs Low in Iraq.

UPDATE at 5/26/07 2:34:03 pm:

Some information was left in the PDF document’s Properties:

Author: khanp

Created: 5/23/07 7:15:03 AM
Modified: 5/23/07 7:15:16 AM

Application: Acrobat PDFMaker 8.0 for Word

Notice that the date on the document in the PDF file is: 05-21-07.

UPDATE at 5/26/07 2:46:02 pm:

Also notice that the PDF document is not a scan of a printed original, it’s editable text captured directly from Word. So this PDF file was created from a Microsoft Word document, two days after the date on the so-called “memo.”

UPDATE at 5/26/07 5:27:29 pm:

IraqSlogger also had a copy of this PDF file, on May 23: US Mission Alert: Food, Convoy Problems.

But they haven’t made their actual PDF file public, only a screenshot. To IraqSlogger: please post your copy, so we can see if the Properties information is the same.

UPDATE at 5/26/07 10:13:05 pm:

Hummelgate is too good a name to pass up, but it turns out this is a Lenox China figurine, not an official Hummel.

UPDATE at 5/28/07 8:30:47 am:

It’s real: Iraq Food Memo Genuine.

 Frank says:

I think (Abbey Road is) the best engineered, best mastered rock and roll album ever produced...except that I take exception to stereo placement. -- From "Frank Zappa talks about Faves, Raves, and composers in their g raves" - some English publication, I think. (2 & 3 from the book, "The Lives and Times of Frank Zappa and the Mothers", some Brit thing again (got it at Blue Meanie Imports in San Diego fifteen years ago.)
