A Really Bad CAIR Day

Mon, Jun 4, 2007 at 8:00:08 am PDT

Three radical Islamic front groups have been named by federal prosecutors as participants in a criminal conspiracy to support Hamas—including the Council on American Islamic Relations.

Federal prosecutors have named three prominent Islamic organizations in America as participants in an alleged criminal conspiracy to support a Palestinian Arab terrorist group, Hamas.

Prosecutors applied the label of “unindicted co-conspirator” to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America, and the North American Islamic Trust in connection with a trial planned in Texas next month for five officials of a defunct charity, the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development.

While the foundation was charged in the case, which was filed in 2004, none of the other groups was. However, the co-conspirator designation could be a blow to the credibility of the national Islamic organizations, which often work hand-in-hand with government officials engaged in outreach to the Muslim community.

A court filing by the government last week listed the three prominent groups among about 300 individuals or entities named as co-conspirators. The document gave scant details, but prosecutors described CAIR as a present or past member of “the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood’s Palestine Committee and/or its organizations.” The government listed the Islamic Society of North America and the North American Islamic Trust as “entities who are and/or were members of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood.”

The secretary-general of the Islamic Society of North America, Muneer Fareed, said his group was surprised to be named in the Texas case. “I can tell you categorically that the current administration of ISNA, as well as its stakeholders, they have no connection to my knowledge with any Holy Land foundations,” he said. Mr. Fareed denied his group has any ties to Hamas, though he said it is difficult to police all 300 mosques under his umbrella. “We might have a kid whose dad was president of Hamas for all I know,” he said. “How do you verify these things?”

The Islamic official expressed frustration at the lack of detail in the prosecution’s filing. “Perhaps there’s some evidence. I just don’t really know what it is,” he said.

Spokesmen for CAIR did not respond to messages seeking comment yesterday. Efforts to contact the North American Islamic Trust were unsuccessful.

It'll be a while before CAIR goes down because good people in the USA want to believe that their "dialogue" and "understanding" will "build bridges" and demonstrate "good faith."

When in reality, it won't do a damn thing.

The Lebanese government has demanded that Fatah Islam surrender, but the militant group’s deputy leader rejected the call in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

“This is not only impossible, this is unthinkable. Our blood is cheaper than handing over our weapons and surrendering,” said Abu Hureira, a Lebanese whose real name is Shehab al-Qaddour, said Sunday. He also denied the army had made significant progress in its offensive.

“I am still in the same position since the war began,” Abu Hureira said. “Our morals are high and the army did not make any advance.”

We see you!

Let's sing along!

I speak peace when peace is spoken, But I speak war when your hate is provoking, The season is open 24-7-365, Man up yo time to ride, No need to hide behind slogans of deceit, Claiming that you're a religion of peace, We just don't believe you, We can clearly see through, The madness that you're feeding your people, Jihad the cry of your unholy war, Using the willing, the weak and poor, From birth drowning in propaganda, rhetoric and slander, All we can say is damn ya

My forefathers fought and died for this here
I'm stronger than your war of fear
Are we clear?
If you step in my hood
It's understood
It's open season

I don't need a faith that's blind, Where death and hate bring me peace of mind, With views that are stuck deep in the seventh century, So much sand in your eyes to blind to see, The venom that you leaders preach, Is the path to your own destruction, Your own demise, You might say that I don't understand but your disgust for me is what I realize, Surprise!
Your homicidal ways has got the whole world watching, Whole world scoping, So if you bring it to my home base, Best believe it, The season's open

I see you, Hell yeah I see you, Motherfucker naw, I don't wanna be you, If you come to my place, I'll drop more than just some bass, Yo you'll get a taste of a, Sick motherfucker from the Dirty, I ain't worrying not a fucking bit, I'm telescoping like Hubble, Yo you in trouble, Yo on the double, I'm wild with mine, Bring that style with mine, Fuck with my family I'll end your life, Just the way it is, Just the way it be, Do you understand? No matter if you're woman or man, or child, My profile is crazy, That shit you do doesn't amaze me, I'm ready to blaze thee

I don't give a damn what god you claim, I've seen the innocent that you've slain, On my streets you're just fair game, Like a pig walk to your slaughter, The heat here is so much hotter, And my views won't teeter totter or fluctuate, Step to me you just met your fate, And I'll annihilate, With the skill of a Shogun assassin, Slicing and dicing precise with a passion, In any shape form or fashion, Bring it to my home, Welcome to the danger zone, Cause your attitude's the reason, The triggers keep squeezing, The hunt is on and it's open season

It's Open Season

Nice find....

What terror?

Charles Johnson at the Little Green Footballs blog ([Link: littlegreenfootballs.com...] had too much fun over the weekend, documenting the profanity-laced reactions at Daily Kos to the indictment of four men tied to Guyana and Trinidad on charges of plotting to blow up the fuel lines that supply John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
But he noted that the profanity of "the Kos Kidz" was not aimed at the terrorism suspects, but the government.
"I don't believe the latest terrorist plot [expletive]," wrote the Kos contributor "Ghost of Godwin." "If this ever goes to trial, and if they show actual evidence that these guys they arrested weren't just talking trash, I'll admit I was wrong ... [but] why is it so hard to have a little bit of skepticism when faced with constant lies produced out of D.C. ... how dumb do you have to be to believe the U.S. government at this point? The U.S. government has zero credibility."
40 lawhawk  Mon, Jun 4, 2007 8:18:40am

I can't wait to see the juicy bits involved in the discovery process. What kind of financial arrangements have been made between various parties, and whether any of them may have violated the IRC.

Revoking their tax-exempt status would not be out of the realm of possibility in such an event.

#34 LC LaWedgie:
The Lebanese military is certainly pushing things against Fatah al Islam, but I'm worried about their resolve and ability to contain matters to the now two camps involved in the fighting.

Where is the UNIFIL in all this - they're supposed to be disarming all militias in the country because only the Lebanese government is supposed to have the authority to have a military force (UN SCR 1559, 1701, toilet paper?)

Published: June 4, 2007 at 9:05 AM
GAZA, June 4 (UPI) -- The Israeli army arrested several people in the Gaza Strip Monday during a raid it said was aimed at terror suspects and tunnels.

Israeli tanks and armored vehicles backed by Israel air force helicopters entered the Gaza Strip at the Sufa Crossing and troops conducted a house-by-house search, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Bulldozers flattened an area with bulldozers, a strategy that Israeli officials said makes it harder for Palestinian Hamas militants to fire Qassam rockets into Israel, the Post reported.

Sorry if you're offended. I felt your take on the recent poll of American Muslims was a good example of downplaying terrorism.

While it is a bit unsettling to see any US Muslims say that suicide bombing is justified at all, I think this poll on the whole is encouraging. Given the fact that we haven’t really had any American Muslim suicide bombings in this country, I’d say all the hysterics coming from some of these blogs is more than a tad unwarranted.

The recommendation to talk to you about why the left is soft on terrorism should be flattering. As long a Lizards can control their rage I felt you'd be willing to patiently answer questions and explain your views.

I find this to be very good news.I am very interested in what comes out during the findings stage.I live outside Providence,RI and so am very aware of what has been transpiring in Boston concerning a land deal for a massive mosque the islams want to build there.A lawsuit was put forward to block the building and countersuits were brought by CAIR against the plaintiffs that filed against the mosque "developers".It is now obvious that this was done by CAIR strictly to intimidate the plaintiffs into backing down-they did not and just last week CAIR dropped the suit against them and started in with all the usual "racist" blathering against those whom filed suit to stop the building of the mosque. The reason was that the discovery phase had been reached and CAIR and all those involved with the mosque project would have to produce documentation as to what the real deal was. They dropped the suit rather than have the discovery phase occur. Now they will not have the option of dropping out to keep the rock from being turned over and the light of day finally being turned upon all the despicable critters hiding under the islams rock.It is about time these groups are exposed for what they really are-fronts for jihadists and nothing more.

Per Society for Creative Anachronism, I'm just surprised how many times I'll be on a blog and look at a poster's profile and see that item in the list. Clearly a vast conspiracy

Sorry if you're offended. I felt your take on the recent poll of American Muslims was a good example of downplaying terrorism.

The recommendation to talk to you about why the left is soft on terrorism should be flattering. As long a Lizards can control their rage I felt you'd be willing to patiently answer questions and explain your views.

Again, No offense intended.

I hardly think that pointing out anti-Muslim hysteria and intellectual dishonesty is akin to downplaying terrorism, or that it makes me "soft" on it. I certainly has nothing to do with what funky chicken posted (ie denying Islamic terrorsim exists).

I'm kinda curious what it means to be "tough" on terrorism? Supporting reckless invasion of Iraq? Torture? What is it exactly?

BTW- Why would you feel that there would be "rage" directed at me? It's not like anyone has threatened my life around here or anything. Oh wait.

This is huge, and good news. CAIR, the oft-quoted media default darling for quotes from "moderate" Islam.

Before, the MSM was able to peshaw CAIR connections to terrorists as "well, that is what their critics say." But now, CAIR is officially named as supporters of Hamas.

Statements like that are why I recommended funky chicken talk to you if she wanted to understand. The recommendation was intended as a compliment not a character assassination.

I saw parts of that conversation with Iron Fist and thought he was making analogy instead of an actual threat. But I usually just scroll over posts when people start squabbling.

One of my daughters is an SCA member. I don't see many references to it unless I go looking. Might just be a conspiracy but doubt that it's vast. I don't think I want to know anything about the Marlon Brando group!

those ethinc groups don't WANT peace

But that is precisely the argument that leftists would make: Arabs want peace, Jews, Anglos, etc., don't, and there is a long history of war-mongering, imperialism, etc. to prove it.

Of course most of this is spoken by people who belong to the offending ethnic groups, but they have shed their false consciousness and embraced a morally superior identity.

Simple enough.

But before they are deported, they should be told the US has decided to adopt aspects of Shari'a, and that terrorist supporters will be publicly beheaded.

Just a bit of a joke -- I am a medieval historian by trade, and I find myself often besieged by SCA folks who will often get angry when I don't confirm their romantic sensibilities about the past. It starts to feel like a conspiracy at a point.

Occasional Reader - Prosecutors applied the label of “unindicted co-conspirator” to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, the Islamic Society of North America, and the North American Islamic Trust.
Good. Now let's remove that "un-" prefix as a healthy next step, DOJ.

Back in #8 MJ points out why the status of "Unindicted" makes sense. Quoting Daniel Pipes:

What is an unindicted co-conspirator? Someone by and about whom hearsay is permissible in the courtroom. Here is a definition by legal journalist Stuart Taylor, discussing an entirely unrelated case:
The prosecutor is saying in essence in court … that we believe this man was part of the criminal conspiracy, along with the people who are on trial. We haven't indicted him but the relevance of that for the purposes of the trial is that [it] lets them get in more evidence about the unindicted co-conspirator's … out-of-court statements than they otherwise could. It's a way around the hearsay rule. … For example, if they want … one of their witnesses, to talk about what [a person] said to him, ordinarily that would be barred by the so-called hearsay rule. You can't … testify in a trial about what somebody else said out of court. That rule has a lot of exceptions. One of the exceptions is if the person who you're trying to quote … is named by the prosecution as an unindicted co-conspirator, then you can talk about what he said out of court.

Uh, ChenZhen, one other thing, if you don't mind. Would you please retract the statement about having your life threatened? Orange County not geopolitical hotbed

Hussam Ayloush, executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Anaheim, said he has talked extensively with Muslim students at UC Irvine and hasn't encountered anti-Semitism.

“We can sit and debate with both sides, basically, about the type of speakers and the titles of their events; that is all legitimate,” he said. “But to label them as bigots and so on is a stretch of the truth.”

Ayloush said some of the Muslim students tend to be strident in their political beliefs, something he attributes to demographic trends.

“The growing second generation of American Muslims is choosing to tackle such issues; they have less fear and intimidation than their first-generation immigrant Muslim parents,” he said. “They're trying to express their identity.”

Ayloush deserves a bad CAIR day too....

They are unindicted so that the government can use any testimony from these entities at trial. It also allows the government to use testimony from one unidicted co-conspirator as the same relates to another. It is strange that non-individuals were named. This means statements from all officers and trustees as well as employees and business records can be used as evidence against an indicted co-conspirator.

125 theheat  Mon, Jun 4, 2007 11:36:18am

When our own government is hell bent on sending millions to the Palestinians, just what the hell difference does it make these people are, too? In this case, saying this or that organization is funneling money to terrorists is the pot calling the kettle black. No one needs to look any further than our own state department - they allocated between $50-60 million to Abbas' posse. Abbas, Hamas - they're all involved in terrorism, just to different extents. We're funding them.

It would be more honest to say, "We're examining your organization to doubly confirm you support batshit crazy religious ideals. Oh, and we don't like you, besides." But, if they do that, it becomes a religious persecution.
