Since I introduced the Ajax-driven “new comments” button 7 days ago, to let readers see newly posted comments without reloading the page, the lizard army has clicked that little button 130,008 times. And I’ve seen a corresponding increase in the number of comments posted, as the responsiveness encourages people to post more.

The next step is to Ajax-ify the posting of comments, and it’s under way. When that code is completed (it’s quite a bit more complex than simply showing new comments), you may need a windscreen to prevent injury from rapidly flying verbiage. I’ve tested some preliminary versions, and it’s insanely great.
