LGF Comments Ajax Overdrive V1.0

It’s time to put the pedal to the metal, lizards. Our commenting system will now switch into overdrive.

Reload your LGF page now. You’ll need to refresh in order to get all the Javascript modules correctly loaded.

Then get ready to experience a new type of blog commenting. This has been where all the Ajax changes have been headed, in the past month or more; posting a comment is now completely Ajax-driven.

The old way: when you hit the button that says ‘post this comment,’ it loaded a separate page, did the posting business, and then reloaded the entire page of comments. This resulted in a wait that got increasingly longer as the thread got longer.

The new way: hit ‘post this comment’ and our Ajax code kicks in, sends the information to the server asynchronously where it’s processed and added to our database—then the server sends back your posted comment and any other newly posted comments, which are displayed on the page without ever reloading anything.

I’m not fond of bragging, but this is a pretty revolutionary change in the way blog comments work. Check it out and see what you think.

As always with the first release of a significant piece of code, there may be unforeseen features (some call them ‘bugs’). But it was pretty thoroughly tested on the development server before I kicked it out into the cold cruel world. Have at it.

There's no question in my mind -- the beer, the ballons and the bunting all start with "B" for some cosmic reason. -- Words that star with B and remind him of the Republican party. The Real Frank Zappa Book. Page 238
