We now have positive proof that Islamism not only destroys the soul, it also makes you write really crappy polemical songs. Here’s Cat Stevens, billed as ‘Yusuf’ to avoid the scary I word, at the Hamburg Live Earth concert, with a very thinly veiled anti-Israel ditty: Yusuf (Cat Stevens) - Ruins - Live Earth.

(Hat tip: Killgore.)

UPDATE at 7/7/07 5:23:28 pm:

And in Cat’s performance of “Religion of Peace Train,” he couldn’t possibly sound more disinterested: Yusuf (Cat Stevens) - Peace Train - Live Earth.

UPDATE at 7/8/07 10:50:36 am:

Correction: the song “Ruins” is actually from Yusuf’s pre-Islam days, although it’s remarkable how well it fits with his current Islamism.

 Frank says:

You can tell what they think of our music by the places we are forced to play it in. This looks like a good spot for a livestock show. -- The Mothers of Invention were opening for Cream in April of 1968 in Chicago. The place was very large and did look like it had been used for displays of cattle and other such animals.
