 RetweetAnti-Israel Islamopop in Hamburg

Sat, Jul 7, 2007 at 5:13:15 pm PDT

We now have positive proof that Islamism not only destroys the soul, it also makes you write really crappy polemical songs. Here’s Cat Stevens, billed as ‘Yusuf’ to avoid the scary I word, at the Hamburg Live Earth concert, with a very thinly veiled anti-Israel ditty: Yusuf (Cat Stevens) - Ruins - Live Earth.

(Hat tip: Killgore.)

UPDATE at 7/7/07 5:23:28 pm:

And in Cat’s performance of “Religion of Peace Train,” he couldn’t possibly sound more disinterested: Yusuf (Cat Stevens) - Peace Train - Live Earth.

UPDATE at 7/8/07 10:50:36 am:

Correction: the song “Ruins” is actually from Yusuf’s pre-Islam days, although it’s remarkable how well it fits with his current Islamism.

You just can't make this stuff up.

#4 Killgore

I accidently turned on the station that was carrying it. I liked the musician - John Mayer - but I turned the channel right away.

I am a bitter bitter woman.

Terrorists Steal Agricultural Bomb-making Chemicals

(IsraelNN.com) Hamas terrorists on Saturday stole about 80 bags of agricultural chemicals the agricultural school of Al-Azhar University, known to be affiliated with the Fatah terror movement.

Agricultural chemicals have been employed by terrorists for major attacks in the past, most notably in the United States, when neo-Nazis blew up a government office building in Oklahoma City in 1995.

I think they meant US lily whites dupes of al qaida and iraqi intelligence.

42 Haiku  Sat, Jul 7, 2007 5:25:07pm

The lyrics are actually a situation of what the Jews found in their homeland when they went back. Let's not forget that Cat Stevens has refused to condemn terrorism against Israel, even when he was asked directly about it. He was expelled by the Israeli government for supporting Hamas and was barred from entering the U.S. for the same reason. Gore should be asked why he allowed an anti-semitic terrorist supporter to perform at the Live Earth Concert. I would be very interested in his reply.

He starts off by saying that for many children born today, 'their world is in ruins'... Here in my neighborhood in Dallas, a well established 20's/30's suburban neighborhood near downtown, developers are tearing down worn out old homes and building new townhomes at up to $half million a piece. Four to a lot.

The ruins are disappearing. And there's not even a parking lot.

I guess its that old "stolen land" (by the jews, of course) meme. If the jews would only go away all would be rosy for the former cat stevens. Those few million jews somehow threaten the billion muslims enough that they have to use pathetic palestinians in their religious proxy war. Their "leaders" hunger for power so much that they need to pervert their religion to justify the extermination of those they do not tolerate. All this of course in order to cover up the fact that the only thing "southeast asian s" produce of value is oil and the only reason they can get it out of the ground efficiently is because of western or western expripriated technology. The left can argue Bush is using terrorism to maintain power yet somehow not see that most middle eastern "leaders" are the true perpetrators of this technique to maintain power? No, they are not dumb they are just trying to use any tool in order to try to shoehorn themselves into power in the US and the challenges of war and a clash of civilizations give them opportunity.

I saw a buncha live earthers on the train into NYC today. I made fun of Gore (with a few other people) and cheered them on to save the planet (as my generation saved the world from global cooling and glaciers back in the 70s). I probably took the bloom off the rose for a few kids, but what the hell? Perhaps they'll read about what an Elmer Gantry Gore is and grow up!

Cat Stevens is better than ipecac!

Hey, Usuf. Is Salman Rushdie on your "Peace Train"? If he is, it's headed for the ovens, right Usuf. You can level with us. You're among friends. See, everybody is applauding. Smiling.

Okay, let's say there really is a "Peace Train". I think Yusuf will agree that these are the three ways you can get on.
1. Convert to Islam. (The right sect, or course.)
2. Become a second-class citizen (that sounds like fun) and pay a special tax.
3. Die. (They kick your carcass off at the next stop.)

CAPTAIN PLANET!
(its pretty short)

122 FrogMarch  Sat, Jul 7, 2007 5:41:54pm

Live Earth is killing the Planet:

Matt Bellamy, front man of the rock band Muse, has dubbed it 'private jets for climate change'.

A Daily Mail investigation has revealed that far from saving the planet, the extravaganza will generate a huge fuel bill, acres of garbage, thousands of tonnes of carbon emissions, and a mileage total equal to the movement of an army.

The most conservative assessment of the flights being taken by its superstars is that they are flying an extraordinary 222,623.63 miles between them to get to the various concerts - nearly nine times the circumference of the world. The true environmental cost, as they transport their technicians, dancers and support staff, is likely to be far higher.

The total carbon footprint of the event, taking into account the artists' and spectators' travel to the concert, and the energy consumption on the day, is likely to be at least 31,500 tonnes of carbon emissions, according to John Buckley of Carbonfootprint.com, who specialises in such calculations.

Throw in the television audience and it comes to a staggering 74,500 tonnes. In comparison, the average Briton produces ten tonnes in a year.

From Hot Air headlines: Car bombs are linked with Iraq’s Al-Qaeda

AT least one of the suspects being quizzed over the alleged plot to set off car bombs in Britain was in recent contact with Al-Qaeda in Iraq, senior security officials said yesterday.

Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command SO15 is understood to have uncovered evidence that in the months leading up to the attacks one or more of the suspects communicated by telephone or e-mail with terrorist leaders in Iraq.
...
Kafeel Ahmed, an Indian-born engineer, was so badly burnt that his mobile telephone is said to have melted into his body.

Ahmed was allegedly radicalised by Hizb ut-Tahrir, the extremist group which the government tried to ban two years ago. Shiraz Maher, a former member, claimed that Ahmed came under the group’s influence in 2004 while he was doing research at Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge.

An Iraqi had to go to the UK to get radicalized? Wow.

Well, mama winger is probably more qualified to answer that - because it's really a Wisconsin thing. But the way I understand it is, some taverns would put a patty of butter on the burger right at the end of the cooking process so it would melt all over the burger as it was brought out to the customer. Makes for a very juicy burger.

Somehow, I doubt Culver's engages in this version.

And it's breakin' my heart you're leavin'
Baby, I'm grievin'
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you have a lot of nice things to wear
But then a lot of nice things turn bad out there

[Chorus:]
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
It's hard to get by just upon a smile
Oh, baby, baby, it's a wild world
I'll always remember you like a child, girl

You know I've seen a lot of what the world can do
And it's breakin' my heart in two
Because I never wanna see you a sad girl
Don't be a bad girl
But if you wanna leave, take good care
I hope you make a lot of nice friends out there
But just remember there's a lot of bad and beware

Cat Stevens didn't write "Morning Has Broken." It's actually a Christian hymn written in 1931, and based on a Gaelic melody.

Folks, I was at Woodstock. So what?

Doesn't amount to a political statement now. Or then.

And, when crowds go big, the first thing to go are the toilets.

And, the drugs used among the crowd. (I still remember the people, jumping from blanket to blanket, selling or reviving those on the bad brown acid. Not everything hit the infirmary tents.

So? Not only can't you change the world by attending song fests; you can't even change things in your own life.

But then, progressives are allowed to lie.

Their biggest lie they perpetrated on the public was re-labeling themselves as "Progressives". As Noam said, it's all in the marketing. Nobody was buying their brand of bullshit anymore when they called themselves "liberal", so they had to come up with a more innocuous term that also sounded forward thinking...so they came up with the term "progressive".
It's quite an oxymoron though because Lefties haven't "progressed" in over a half century.

203 piglet I LOVE that song. I used to sing it to my kids all the time. That was back before they took away "C is for Cookie" and replaced it with some "Cookies are Sometimes Snacks" or something stupid like that.

There was also an Ernie and Bert song about naptime that I loved.

Well it's time for our nap now
Time for resting our heads
Yes it's time for a nap now
Soft and comfy in bed
Feel my eyes getting drowsy
Time for counting some sheep
It's just a perfect time
To get some sleep.

Then they sang it in rounds, I believe.

Why Wikipedia can't always be trusted as a reliable resource:

"Morning Has Broken" was an obscure Christian hymn that became widely known when Cat Stevens included it on his 1971 best-selling album Teaser and the Firecat. It became a signature song for Stevens.

I learned this as a four-year-old in Sunday school years before Cat scratched the surface of pop...

Bitterblue

I gave my last chance to you
Don't hand it back to me bitterblue
No bitterblue
Yes, I've done all one man can do
Don't pass me up oh bitterblue
My bitterblue
Cause I've been running a long time
On this travelling ground
Wishing hard to be free
Of going round and round
Yes I've been moving a long time
But only up and down
I gave my last hope to you
Don't hand it back to me bitterblue
My bitterblue
I've done all one man can do
Please help me lose this bitterblue
My bitterblue
Cause I've been waiting a long time
Aeons been and gone -
Looking at the horizon
For my light to dawn
Oh yes I've been living a long time
Looking on and on
I've been running a long time
Summers come and gone -
Drifting under the dream clouds
Past the broken sun -
Yes I've been living a long time
To be back beyond
I gave my lst chance to you
Don't hand it back bitterblue
My bitterblue
I've done all one man can do
Don't pass me up oh bitterblue
My bitterblue, bitterblue
I gave my last chance to you
Don't hand it back to me bitterblue

AS much as i hate islamodickheads like Catshit Stevens I think you guys got this song wrong. If that Lyrics page is correct about what album it is on then that song was from 1972. WAAAY before he ever went insane or converted to Islam. I forget which came first for him, the going insane and being put in a mental hospital or Converting to Islam part. I think he went insane first. How else could you convert? Unless you were Black and watched Malcolm X 300 times in a row.
So i dont think this song is about palestine, technically if you look at the lyrics it could be basically about any war time event.
Oh and i saw them talk about this on Hannity and Colmes last night. Fucking weasel mole face Alan Colmes basically said that ALL the things said about Cat stevens regarding the Salman rushdie incident were LIES. that he never agreed with the iranian fatwa. I know that to be 100% horseshit. I saw the video interview in which Catshit stevens SAID that if Rushdie HAD insulted the prophet then he had to die. His attitude seemed to be that he had no choice in the matter becuase that is what the Sharia law says.

Peace Train
by Cat StevensYoussef Islam

Now I've been happy lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, everyone turns to Islam

Oh I've been smiling lately, dreaming about the world as one
And I believe it could be, some day it's going to come

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train, I'll show them, come take me home again

Now I've been smiling lately, thinking about the good things to come
And I believe it could be, everyone will be Muslim

Oh peace train sounding louder
Blow up the peace train
Come on now peace train
Yes, peace train Allah Ackbar!

Everyone blow up the peace train
Come on now peace train

Get your bags together, get your bombs and nails
Cause it's getting nearer, it soon will be with you

Now come and join the dying, it's not so far from you
And it's getting nearer, soon it will all be BOOM!

Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on letting Jews live; we can't be at peace with them.

Cause out on the edge of darkness, there rides a peace train
Oh peace train take this country, come take me home again

The ironic part of the Gorebot's rep as an environmentalist is that during his two terms with Clinton, their biggest achievement was passing international trade agreements like NAFTA and GATT and opening up the floodgates for Chinese imports.

All of these things worked to increase economic activity aka consumption in both the rich and poor nations. With the wide availability of el cheapo imports of every sort, American consumers bought more and more stuff that they didn't really need in the first place.

I have never heard a reporter bring up this "Inconvenient Truth" to the Gorebot. I would love to hear his pretzel logic explanation of how all the trade agreements were carbon neutral.

And Bon Jovi still sucks after all these years.
Ed the Sock, a sarcastic sock puppet up here in Canada, had a half-hour show on how Bon Jovi's concern for Africa, the environment, etc only happened to coincide with album releases and concerts. The show also mentioned how little he pays in taxes. It was a visciously good show.

I could forgive him for all of that if the music was any good. Alas..

Organizers of the expedition arrived dramatically at Kobe seaport in small vessels constructed of halved, rotting whale carcasses propelled by outboard motors.

"We're endeavoring to raise awareness of the whales' plight, particularly for extremely rare species such as these," explained Head Organizer Tim Simpul, waving toward the ghastly flotilla of enormous ribcages. "Sometimes people need to be shocked out of their complacency."

Concerts will be held nightly over the next week in The Kobe Municipal Fruit & Flower Park. Attendees can support conservation efforts by purchasing whale-oil luminaria, scrimshaw iphone covers engraved by famous artists such as DoDoGuRu, and fried whale snacks.

The FAQ is fascinaing: Did Cat Stevens Say, ‘Kill Rushdie!’ ?

I never called for the death of Salman Rushdie; nor backed the Fatwa issued by the Ayatollah Khomeini - and still don’t. The book itself destroyed the harmony between peoples and created an unnecessary international crisis.

When asked about my opinion regarding blasphemy, I could not tell a lie and confirmed that - like both the Torah and the Gospel - the Qur’an considers it, without repentance, as a capital offense.

Listen to this interview with a former Jihadi who comments on the London and Scotland terror attacks and his life inside the Jihadi movement. He debunks the myth that poverty leads to radicalization. He argues that the theology is the problem. Listen and learn.

re: #358 WeaselZipper

The FAQ is fascinaing: Did Cat Stevens Say, ‘Kill Rushdie!’ ?

I never called for the death of Salman Rushdie; nor backed the Fatwa issued by the Ayatollah Khomeini - and still don’t. The book itself destroyed the harmony between peoples and created an unnecessary international crisis. When asked about my opinion regarding blasphemy, I could not tell a lie and confirmed that - like both the Torah and the Gospel - the Qur’an considers it, without repentance, as a capital offense.

What did he say?

Organizers promised the huge shows were made green by using recycled goods, shuttling some concertgoers from distant parking lots in bio-diesel buses and using biofuels for generators.

Critics have faulted the Live Earth concerts for lacking clear-cut, achievable goals, and for lauding rock stars whose jet-setting, high-consumption lifestyles can often send a different, less environmentally friendly message.

In London, after fans went home, the stadium's floor was covered with discarded plastic cups and litter.

Many of the musicians acknowledged that they weren't rock stars when it came to the environment but said it was important to start a discussion about climate change.

"If you want to peg me as not being entirely eco-friendly, you'll win," said John Mayer, speaking to reporters after his set. "I also think it's very difficult to judge the success of a movement. ... You can't find out by 9 o'clock this evening how much awareness was raised. ... What you're really talking about is the placement of an idea at a rock show."

Rocker Dave Matthews said he tries to go green by driving a hybrid vehicle that uses less gasoline than other vehicles, and uses cloth diapers for his new baby.
At the New Jersey concert, the crowd was dotted with people who heeded the call to wear green. Many said they were already taking steps at home to lead a little more green lifestyle, and felt the concert wasn't just about music.

"Personally, I think it makes people more aware," said Sherry Ramsey, 44, who came to the concert with her husband by plane and train. "It was mass transit all the way here."

Also from Cat Steven's FAQ: Is It True Yusuf Islam Supported Hamas?

I have never knowingly supported Hamas or directed money to them; and use my charity worldwide to help victims of war and natural disasters, particularly children and orphans.
...
On the news, we’d all seen footage of the Israeli soldiers openly breaking the bones of young Palestinians and harshly beating women and children. The world looked on, outraged by these unforgettable images. As far as I and many like me were concerned, the Intifada was a generic name given to a resistance from the people of Palestine themselves. Hamas at that time was a name unknown to me! [8]

The trip was arranged by people in London who had contacts in Jerusalem and other Palestinian areas; I had no idea any of our guides had any links to any movement. But according to Israeli viewpoint, whenever a person feels sorry for the poor victims of occupation including orphans, the disabled, widows and medical cases, if you try to help give charity to them – be warned, you may be considered a terrorist!

OT

Some here may know that a Jewish soldier from Florida named Daniel Agami was killed in Iraq in June and was posthumously awarded a Bronze Star.

This is how Iran's new PressTV spins that story or should I say gloats:

Semitic carrying Israel flag killed

A twenty-five-year old American soldier, Daniel J. Agami, who used to spread Israel's flag on his bed, was killed in a bomb explosion.

He placed Israel's flag on his bed at nights.

Military officials said that he died with five other soldiers when an improvised explosive device detonated near their vehicle in Baghdad on Thursday.

Agami was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division, in Germany.

One of our cable channels is carrying this ridiculous concert live - they keep going from one venue to another. I had the misfortune to tune in when Cameron Diaz was giving a little speech about helping the planet. For an actress, she is amazingly inarticulate - you'd think she would've at least memorized something. Complete airhead.

I also noticed the cameras were pretty selective in audience shots, careful not to pan all the empty seats, but at times unavoidable. Most were tight shots of the crowd - typical media hype.

Boring, brainless and in desperate need of real talent would best describe this. Wonder of Gore is buying offsets to balance the huge carbon footprint made by these concerts.

Most Jews don't even know what the three weeks, or Tisha B'Av are about. You have to be kidding if you think the Goracle would have consulted with Jewish communities about when to hold the concert.

I agree about the most Jews part, but disgaree about him. He knows, if for no other reason that they got slack when he was running for Pres.

You are 110% correct on the "Zionist Occupiers" thing- trying to stir the pot more in Iraq.

PressTV= AhmadineyabbadabbadooTube

Their "vision statement" seems expressly designed to appeal to Western Leftists and other useful idiots:

Our Vision

1- To break the global media stranglehold of western outlets.
2- To bridge cultural divisions pragmatically.
3- To highlight the versatility and vitality of political and cultural differences, making up the human condition.

Their vision sounds like business plan claptrap. What happened to "A World Without Zionism."? Much catchier and more truthful regarding their goal than presenting themselves as a reliable source of news.

I check in a few time during the day. I notice that the one in NY didn't seem full. When they had shots of the field it seemed packed, but when they panned the seats, their were noticeable gaps.

cap't hate, cider and calvados tho both made from apples are completly different. the cider is milDLY bubbly and light, the calvados is like an apple brandy and you are correct sir: BOTH are DELICIOUS
I defer to you because you're quite correct. I visited the Normandy beaches and Mt. St. Michel on one of the best vacations ever and apple derived beverages were the local drinks of choice.

you are a lucky person, i too love normany and brittany . i got hooked on the apple beverages while there myself. i have a lovely bottle of calvados in the cellar now. it's got an apple in the bottle. a delight for little kids to wonder how it got there

In terms of total sales? Dolly Parton maybe. Hey, I admitted she had a good sense of pop.

I wasn't fortunate enough to get out to Brittany (a future vacation, j'espere) because we had to scamper down to the Loire valley, which was nice in its own way. I'll be out in your fair city next week for my daughter's wedding. Assuming your nic is accurate, of course.

Pink Floyd? Hah!
Pop music went down hill after Diana ross left the Supremes.

I don't think there is a singer who does a poorer job selling a song than Diana Ross. You know she doesn't care one whit about what the lyrics say.

Diana was just skinny and Barry Gordy's girlfriend. Martha Reeves and Gladys Knight could sing rings around her. So could Tammy Terrell.

532 Captain Hate  Sat, Jul 7, 2007 9:24:18pm

I was thinking Cher also but she's probably been the queen of the infomercials during the last 25 years. Anyway, fellow lizards, unlike the zombies onstage at the Gorefest, I know when it's time to go to bed. Night all.

Stink (#484),

OK, I have to admit, I (used to) LOVE Pink Floyd, but you're spot-on in your contempt for the Grateful Dead. They're the most overrated garage band of the past 100 years. I personally have contempt for the morons I've worked with who have moved on to other companies and ended their farewell emails with "What a long, strange trip it's been."

Springsteen is also WAY overrated (another regional phenomenon).

And Moose (#520),

Killing me softly with Islam.

BRILLIANT! LMAO!

541 really grumpy big dog Johnson  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 12:18:35am

Yusuf Islam's music has advanced zero degrees since the early 1970's.

He must be taking the hint from his perpetually stagnant religion.

542 Infidelsalwayswin  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 2:31:25am

I can't believe any of you guys actually wasted ATP (and various other energy media) and time watching it. The way the press have fallen over themselves to hop on the band wagon has literally had me shaking my head with dismay.
In between waiting for the matches I felt like watching yesterday at Wimbledon, I skimmed through the news channels and inevitably ended up watching a bit of BBC News (yeah, I know - shoot me). They were harping on about the 'Live Earth' bollocks, but bizarrely, they had this old guy - whose name I didn't catch - being interviewed in the studio, in relation to the Live Earth hysteria. He basically wasn't having any of it, and to paraphrase, said that you can watch your big pop concert and use your funny-looking lightbulbs (those were his words) if that makes you feel better, but you're out of your fucking mind (those are my words) if you think any of it is going to combat - literally - astronomical forces employed by the sun and the planets &c. And all the while the BBC News-reader-monkey was going, 'But, but, but - global warming!...carbon emissions...' Basically the old man was expressing the view that I share. Namely that we probably do contribute to global warming, but to such a small extent, relatively speaking, that we could never burn any hydrocarbons again, murder all the farting cows and other mammals, go back to living in trees and stagnate in every area (become a modern Islamic state in other words), and that the planet will continue to warm, climate will alter and so on, at almost the same rate. I'd hazard to say that the person who booked this old man, whoever he is, got a severe bollocking by their boss, since they used an opinion that contravened the company line.
Cat Stevens, oh, I'm sorry - Yusuf Islam is just another well-framed example of what Islam does to everything it comes into contact with. That is to say it takes a good thing, or a potential good thing and ruins it permanently.
Was there anybody good playing at this thing? Nah, I didn't think so. Fuck the Earth - I like to keep it on its toes!

543 shira  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 2:34:46am

Late to the thread... very late... but I was just wondering: what Islamic authority gave Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam/whatever his name is these days permission to appear in public with a guitar and play it? I thought that instrumental music was against Islamic principles.

For the Jews among us: where did he get his heter (dispensation)?

I noticed that he played simple chords instead of the opening riff of "Peace Train." I guess he's out of practice. Too bad.

544 DaMav  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 2:43:32am

Did YouTube change their "Comments" policy? I used to make a comment and it would appear immediately. I made one on the video, no profanity, nothing nasty, and it has not posted ten minutes later.

I also noticed that when I entered the comment it said it would appear after it "has been approved". (or something like that)

Maybe that explains why with a rating of 2 stars there are no really negative comments?

545 Infidelsalwayswin  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 2:51:29am

The poster of the video can delete comments and ban users from commenting on their submissions at will, DaMav. That's why YouTube sucks donkey balls, and why there are some videos on it about some really reprehensible people, like George Galloway, wherein all the comments, or the majority of them, are positive.

I'll agree with this with the exception of Dark Side of the Moon. Beyond that, I'm with you all.

"It's great to be back on Earth"

So where has he been all these years, then ?
Ah, I forgot. Muslim nations are a Paradise not of this domain.
... And then he goes on to say that Earth isn't that great after all, what with Children in poverty and despair (Israeli causation implied) and of course the climate being done for.
Not saying 'Inshallah' to that state of affairs, Cat ?

556 blbfootballs  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 7:23:22am

The person once known as 'Cat Stevens' who's music I enjoyed back in the day died a long time ago.
I seriously doubt that anyone that remembers the original gives a rats ass that he was there the other day.

Mark Steyn reminiscing about the good old days...

If memory serves, the last stadium extravaganza I went to was Liberace. During his medley of "Give Peace A Chance" and "We Are The World", we all held up candelabras. Profoundly moving, and a totally awesome carbon footprint.

Crap, I read the link too quickly. I thought it meant to say "Yusuf (Cat Stevens) Ruins Live Earth" (without the hyphens).

Or maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part.

I thought the same thing. I didn't realize it was a song title until I played it.

"Saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace."
Jeremiah 6:14

"And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up. And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people. And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand."
Daniel 8:23-25

re: #545 Infidelsalwayswin

Hmmm. Thanks for the response. I've been putting comments on YouTube for at least a couple of years now, favorable and not, and it seems to me that this is a recent change. In the past, comments could be completely blocked or blocked by YouTube (selectively of course) but to have only the original poster be able to selectively block them seems like a change. Maybe my recollection is faulty but clearly my deliberately modest criticism didn't make it through the filter being applied. At least the star rating for this piece remains low.

562 Sabraguy  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 9:47:51am

To avoid giving offence to Muslims, we should refer to him as Yusuf Asian.

563 Sabraguy  Sun, Jul 8, 2007 10:01:56am

In Wahhabi theology, all music except for drum accompaniment to religious chanting is haram, or forbidden.

Yusuf Islam has demonstrated his sympathy for this posture on several occasions. Above all, he is careful to point out his caution about bucking the Wahhabis in this realm. In 1997, he released an album titled I Have No Cannons That Roar ...

... in the New York Times on December 8, 1997, he commented on the project, "You only hear my own voice, a slight choral accompaniment and drums. Let's say that's the safest option according to certain Islamic schools of thought. I've made minimal use of musical instruments, and in some schools of thought in Islam musical instruments are disapproved of."

Watch your back Yusuf, your Islamofascist pals hate apostates.
