Hrmm -- none of these rallies were truly large, there was some violence -- The MMA party and WMAP (Wafaqul Madaris al Arabia Pakistan -- the council of Deobandi/Wahabbist mosques in Pakistan) are playing it for what it's worth:

Pro-Lal Masjid protests outside 200 mosques

Staff Report

KARACHI: The Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) and Wafaqul Madaris al-Arabia Pakistan (WMAP) held protests after Friday prayers outside more than 200 mosques. The largest protest was held outside Masjid Nauman, Lasbela Chowk.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan’s secretary general, Syed Munawar Hasan told the protestors that Muslim armed forces had not achieved any success during the last 100 years, rather the Mujahideen, in the form of Hamas, Hizbullah, and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen, were the ones that were successful. He said that the Pakistan Army was avenging its defeat when 90,000 troops surrendered from the students of Lal Masjid.

Hasan said that the army had attacked its people, and that those who killed more than thousand innocent people should answer whether they had ever killed the enemy in such big numbers. He said that the army should not scare the people with weapons and uniforms but should understand that the people cannot be scared with power. He added that the army should also remember that unarmed children in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Palestine, had shattered the pride of the uniform. Hasan was of the view that “Maulana Abdul Rasheed Ghazi, by being martyred, had taught Muslims how to live”.

Former minister NWFP government, Sirajul Haque, said that there was a time when the Pakistan Army was given flowers by children when they passed a street, but now the army patrolled its own areas in the form of a convoy. He recalled Musharraf’s statement that Ghazi had occupied the mosque and taken students hostage, but in reality, Musharraf had occupied Pakistan and had taken 160 million people hostage. He said that Benazir Bhutto was also supporting this operation, and warned that “she would not be able to step into Pakistan if she supported murderers”. He claimed that the “blood of the Lal Masjid martyrs would bring a revolution”. WMAP members did not come out to protest on the roads, but cancelled its darses in their madaris and held a special session for prayers for those killed during Lal Masjid operation. No speeches were given.

7 Thanos  Fri, Jul 13, 2007 6:37:28pm

That's pretty tame as the fiery rhetoric goes in Pakistan btw, and Benazir Bhutto is the Bogeywoman to the extremists, because she's a woman.

Big Joe is the man! I especially like the little quiet Jazz riff he threw in during the end of the middle of the solo (if that makes sense).

Jewish Leaders Slam Kucinich for Defending Ahmadinejad's Israel Threats...

Jewish leaders slammed Democratic presidential hopeful Dennis Kucinich for denying that Iran's president seeks to destroy Israel.

Jewish leaders in Ohio, where Kucinich is a congressman, said Kucinich's insistence that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad merely wants regime change in Israel, not death to its people and supporters, is dangerously credulous.

Kucinich looks like a cross between Ken Burns and Carl Sagan.

Kucinich and Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) were the only members of the U.S. House of Representatives to vote against a June 20 resolution condemning Iran's president and asking the U.N. Security Council to move against Ahmadinejad for threats that violate the genocide conventions,

The chicken who gave it's life for dinner was juicy and delicious; the cottage potatoes had just the right amount of garlic; the beans were flavoured with just the right amount of hame and the home-grown tomatoes actually tasted like tomatoes (thanks be unto their leader, Killer Tomato of LGF fame).

I'm stuffed and happy.

The Kid has "borrowed" my sooper-dooper tape micro-cassette recorder that cost a pretty and that I was using to buff my transcription skills but, I have a back up until he finds it.

Thanks to the kind Killian Bundy, I've inserted all kinds of documents into various master files, thereby speeding up the process. I've then printed out the masters, enabling me to delete the originals and tidy up my folders. I'm reviewing hundreds of pages of school notes/draft documents/rules of civil procedure/case law/et blood cet..

The only problem I can see is that I CANNOT GET RID OF THE FUCKING PISSANTS INFESTING MY DESK. I've cleaned it unto the very grain of wood. I've scrubbed every IN/OUT tray, every computer component, every pencil. But, still, they come. They come. Yea, verily. They come.

I play bass and, yes, I think playing a 5-string is cheating. LOL

The fifth string is actually lower than the other four, so you can play notes that are deeper than a standard bass.

Along a similar line, Steve Vai was mentioned higher up the thread. He sometimes plays a 7-string guitar. It, too, had one lower string to be able to play deeper notes.

Check out this incredible speech by Jon Kyl from July 9th. I've never heard a government figure ever say anything close to this:

... The war against terrorists and the radical ideologies that drive terrorism, this war is going to go on for a long time and attacks will not occur every day. So we've got to remain resolute in the face of this long- term threat, never allowing temporary respites from violence to tempt us into thinking that the terrorists have stopped recruiting and plotting.

Abroad we must confront the challenges not just of the terrorist networks but of states like Iran and Syria that provide funds and equipment in training of terrorists. And at home, we have to have adequate intelligence to find and monitor and disrupt terrorist cells that could strike at any time. It requires vigilance and cooperation among many enforcement entities and importantly the support of the American people. Against this threat, this saying "out of sight, out of mind" can have no place.

The first point I'd like to make today, Mr. President, is that as the plot in Great Britain revealed, this is not about grievances. This is about ideology.

... Militant Islam seeks not to change our policies but to destroy our very way of life and replace it with a Taliban-like society ruled by Sharia Law and its enforcers.

Militant Islam has declared war on the West. Be very clear about it. It is fundamentally at odds with freedom, with democracy, with the inherent humanity of the individual, with critical thinking, and rational decision- making, not to mention all other religious beliefs. While it might be fueled by grievances, it is not caused by the West, but rather by the very backwardness and ideological rigidity that they would impose on others.

The second point, Mr. President, is this. We should be clear that militant Islam, though bound together by common ideology, comes in various stripes, including: al Qaeda, responsible for 9/11, which may have inspired the recent terror plots in Great Britain;

Iran's radical regime whose leader vows to wipe Israel off the map and envisions a world without America and which is speeding toward the development of nuclear weapons;

Wahhabism of Saudi Arabia which is funding radical ideology and mosques and madrassas over the world, including here at home;

groups like the Muslim Brotherhood which cloaks its radical ideology in a new veneer of tolerance while its activities directly support terrorist groups like Hamas, and many others.

... Third, Mr. President, a successful American response depends on resolve and support of the American people. We must understand the nature of our enemy and its ideology, confronting them head on with full confidence in the rightness of our cause.

This is not a matter of moral relativism. We must not allow ourselves to be gagged by faux political correctness. We can say that these terrorists were bound together and motivated by a hateful ideology grounded in their interpretation of Islam without condemning any other Muslims...

Eh, not so good. Oh, I'm fine, but I had to attend the visitation of a friend who died at 52. I asked her husband what happened, as no one I knew had the details. He said that she had an asthma attack and took her emergency inhaler and nebulizer, but the next day she couldn't breathe and they called the paramedics.

Well, the paramedics said she was breathing, but something went wrong--the guess is a blood clot. A lung collapsed and she died at the hospital.

If you think of it, please lift up a prayer for her family. She leaves a husband, two older children, and a grieving family.

Babylonian King's Eunuch Really Existed:
"British newspapers report that ancient Babylonian expert Dr. Michael Jursa of Vienna discovered a small clay tablet that provides proof of the Bible's veracity. Though the tablet was unearthed near Baghdad in 1920, only last week was it deciphered for the first time, by Dr. Jursa. Upon reading the tablet, which records a donation of gold by "the chief eunuch of King Nebuchadnezzar," a man named Nabu-sharrussu-ukin, Jursa suddenly realized that the name sounded familiar. He quickly consulted Jeremiah 39, where he found the man's name listed as one of Nebuchadnezzar's top ministers who took part in the destruction of the First Holy Temple 2,500 years ago. The Biblical account, however, has his named spelled slightly differently: (Samgar) Nevo Sarsekim."

My Wife forwarded this to me today.
Looks like the Brits may be getting serious.

EUROPEANS HEIGHTEN THREAT LEVELS

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent terrorist threats and have raised their security level from /"Miffed"/ to /"Peeved"./ Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to /"Irritated"/ or even /"A Bit Cross"/. Londoners have not been /"A Bit Cross"/ since the blitz began in 1940 and tea supplies all but ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from /"Tiresome"/ to /"A Bloody Nuisance"/. The last time the British issued /"A Bloody Nuisance"/ warning level was during the great fire of 1666.

Also, the French government announced yesterday that it has raised its terror alert level from /"Run"/ to /"Hide"/. The only two higher levels in France are /"Collaborate"/ and /"Surrender."/ The rise was precipitated by a recent fire that destroyed France's white flag factory, effectively paralyzing the country's military capability.

It's not only the English and French who are on a heightened level of alert. Italy has increased the alert level from /"Shout Loudly and Excitedly"/ to /"Elaborate Military Posturing."/ Two more levels remain: /"Ineffective Combat Operations"/ and /"Change Sides." /

The Germans also increased their alert state from /"Disdainful Arrogance"/ to /"Dress in Uniform and Sing Marching Songs."/ They also have two higher levels: /"Invade a Neighbour"/ and /"Lose". /

Belgians, on the other hand, are all on holiday as usual, and the only threat they are worried about is NATO pulling out of Brussels.

The Spanish are all excited to see their new submarines ready to deploy. These beautifully designed subs have glass bottoms so the new Spanish navy can get a really good look at the old Spanish navy...!

So they may be serious, even if I am not.

-snip-

I am prepared to take responsibility for my position on Iraq. I am prepared to tell my children and my grandchildren that I unequivocally support America’s removal of Saddam Hussein, and America’s continued involvement in countering the insurgency and al Qaeda terrorists in Iraq. Whatever the outcome, whatever the implications, I will answer to my children and grandchildren for my position. I believe we should stay until the job is done.

It gets much better with a challenge to liberals. Includes a troll smack-down, too.

109 insanity police  Fri, Jul 13, 2007 8:11:39pm

Some readers will remember the video of an anti-Israel rally featured in an LGF article entitled "Hatefest at Wayne State."

Well, the anti-Israel racist featured in the video has continued to harass students on campus. It turns out that he works at a bookstore near campus, making it easy for him to cause trouble on campus any time he wants.

Most recently, a Jewish student went into the store to buy a book for classes, only to find out when he got home that a racist flier promoting an anti-Israel rally was placed in his book. Not surprisingly the guy in the video was working at the bookstore.

Please join the letter writing campaign to impress upon the bookstore its need to prevent such offensive occurrences from happening again.

Thank you!

Okay, my turn.

I took inspiration from the Aaron Mannes report on CAIR's connection to Hamas, posted earlier tonight by Charles.

As many of you know, Keith Ellison is my congressman. What many don't know is that he has a more than passing acquaintance to Ibrahim Hooper and Nihad Awad. They donated handsomely to his campaign. My local paper, the Star Tribune, doesn't seem too interested in doing any digging on this relationship, even though I've badgered them about it numerous times. Each time, I created a post about it over at Powerline. I even got a link from the front of house on my very first post over there.

In any case, with this most recent information, I'm naively suggesting the Strib run a story on this connection.

I hope you enjoy.

115 MandyManners  Fri, Jul 13, 2007 8:16:25pm

Did someone say "Churchill"?

Here he is on Islam.

How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy. The effects are apparent in many countries.

Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity.

The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property—either as a child, a wife, or a concubine—must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men. Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities.

Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyzes the social development of those who follow it.

No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science—the science against which it had vainly struggled—the civilization of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilization of ancient Rome.

Fixed it by uninstalling all of the Creative SW then reinstalling with the CD that came with the X-Fi card. Sound is back to glorious normal. Should have known better than to update the sound driver through M$ update.
