The Chavez-Spicoli Convergence

Thu, Aug 2, 2007 at 1:08:06 pm PDT

Sean Penn praised by Venezuela’s Chavez.

CARACAS, Venezuela - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has praised Sean Penn for his critical stance against the war in Iraq, saying the two chatted by phone and soon plan to meet in person. Chavez said Penn traveled to Venezuela this week wanting to learn more about the situation in the country and walked around some of Caracas’ poor barrios on his own.

“Welcome to Venezuela, Mr. Penn. What drives him is consciousness, the search for new paths,” Chavez said...

Not to mention, some tasty waves and a cool buzz.

He just figures this will keep his 15 minutes going since he really hasn't been relevant for years.

Keeps him in the spotlight, ya know.

He's really a minority. Are people getting tired of the war? Yes.....Do Americans think it's not being run correctly? A lot do, yes.........

But you notice that mama moonbat only drew about 25 people to her last public event. Americans really, as a whole don't care for whatever sean's point is. Hes irrelivant and always will be.

Not to be a picky bastard, but this isn't the kind of thing we should wish for. Yes, Chavez is a paranoid, dangerous ass, but we still don't have any right to wish this sort of thing on anyone.

Absolutely. I wish for this as well. The implication, though, was what I thought inappropriate. I know, it's silly political correctness and I'm sorry for that, but I get angry at psycho libs for wishing the same violent end, as was implied in the earlier post, to Bush (and some of them do) - it doesn't justify us sinking to that level.

Leftist dementia: Blaming Bush & GOP for Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

When I heard the news late Wednesday afternoon PT about the Minnesota Interstate 35W bridge collapse, after the initial shock and sadness for the victims, one of my first thoughts was that the Left would try to score points and blame the tragedy on President Bush and the Republicans.

Sure enough, within four minutes of the news breaking nationally at 7:32 pm ET on the Fox News Channel, the initial discussion thread about it at Daily Kos was already collecting comments like the following ones which are representative of hundreds of messages that soon appeared there

#43 SoL. My comment concerning Hugo relates to my long held belief that the world is better off without some people in it.I don't usually wish an early demise on anyone, but can you honestly tell me that the people of Venezuela would not be better off without Hugo? How about Zimbabwe without Mughabi? How about Iraq without Saddam and his two sons. How about bin-Laden or Zawahiri? It's all just a matter of perspective.I would never wish for the death of a President I disagreed with-even Hillary if she wins the job.I may disagree with her vehemently on policy, but never wish for harm to befall her as a result of violence. On the other hand,I would feel no upset with myself for smiling if I was to wake up one morning and turn on the news to discover that any of the aforementioned personifications of evil mentioned above that are still among the living were to have met their untimely demise while I had been sleeping.

Sean Penn is a disgrace to the real Jeff Spicoli.

The Ridgemont High characters are all based on Cameron Crowe's Rolling Stone expose' (post-American Graffiti) and book about real individuals and circumstances at Clairemont High in San Diego in '81.

I met the real JF-- he was Jerry Sherman who was #2 on the surfing circuit in '88. He was a surfing legend and an asskicker who hated Sean Penn for turning him into a cartoon. He was no peacenik, either. I remember after Lockerbie, I had to restrain him from going on a (beer induced) random foreigner beatdown rampage.

If you're still out there Jerry-- please, don't hold back on Sean Penn.

95 kingronjo  Thu, Aug 2, 2007 2:24:21pm

re: #33 mingjaiyo

My bet is (T)Hugo will get intimate with a bullet delivered from a weapon held by one of those peasants that helped put him in office...something akin to Ceachessceu (sp?) Syndrome. He has broken so many promises to them even quite a few of them ain't happy with him anymore.Hope springs eternal...

Not to be a picky bastard, but this isn't the kind of thing we should wish for. Yes, Chavez is a paranoid, dangerous ass, but we still don't have any right to wish this sort of thing on anyone.

I strongly disagree. Wishing for what an evil tyrant has earned is hardly a bad or inappropriate thing. This isn't W or the leader of France we are talking about.

Not to mention, some tasty waves and a cool buzz.

Hey now!

Spicoli, good.
Penn, bad.

re: #99 rappmandu: The real Jeff Spicoli once attended summer school at Cal Tech.

Believe it or not, lizards

Yep. It's a fact. Jerry R. Sherman graduated with a degree in Industrial Engineering. I worked with him. He took off every summer to surf in SE Asia. Total straight up good dude.

If anybody learns how Sean Penn's acting experience makes him better qualified to comment on world affairs than the rest of us, please let me know.

Here's hoping he stays in Venezuela.

This from the president who thinks taking 15 minutes to call someone a donkey and other various names is an appropriate state of the union address.

LFG Accuracy alert!

Charles I think we have a factual inaccuracy in this story. Controversy at the very least.

I knew something wasn't right about this yesterday but it didn't hit me until today.

At the end of Fast Times Spicoli doesn't say '...some tasty waves and a cool buzz'. What he says is 'some tasty waves and a cool buds'. Buds of course being marijuana. At least that's is how I remember it from the movie.

I did some research on this and wikipedia supports my analysis:

Fast Times at Ridgemont High

[...]This is good enough for Spicoli, who, as we learn at the end of the movie, only needs "some tasty waves and cool bud" and he's fine.

However the is conflicting evidence over at IMDB where we find:

Memorable quotes for Fast Times at Ridgemont High

Brad Hamilton: Why don't you get a job Spicoli?
Jeff Spicoli: What for?
Brad Hamilton: You need money.
Jeff Spicoli: All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine.

IMDB of course is just another tool of the corporate machine and has every reason to censor such content to keep the truth from the masses, hence it is the Wikipedia entry that I submit to you as the most accurate.

Personally I believe what he said was 'buds' and not 'bud'.

Chavez sure has the New Age patter down pat.

Forrest Whittaker should have kicked the crap out of Penn when he wrecked his car.
