Afghanistan Seething Over Swedish Sketches of Blasphemy

Sat, Sep 1, 2007 at 10:38:40 am PDT

Now Afghanistan has joined the list of countries with nothing better to worry about than some Swedish artist’s sketches: Indignant Afghanistan slams Prophet Mohammad sketch.

(Notice the exaggeratedly deferential tone of this Reuters article, in every reference to Mohammed.)

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghanistan on Saturday condemned the printing of a sketch of Islam’s Prophet Mohammad with the body of a dog in a Swedish newspaper, calling it hostile towards the Muslim world.

The sketch has also drawn condemnation from neighbouring Pakistan, which said it was blasphemous. Muslims believe images of the Prophet are forbidden and consider dogs to be impure.

“Our Holy Prophet’s cartoon in a Swedish paper has provoked all Afghans,” wrote The Kabul Times, publishing a statement by religious scholars, imams and the Ministry of Islamic Guidance.

“The sold-out enemies of Islam draw the cartoon of the respected Prophet of Islam once more. This has disturbed the Islamic world and aroused the indignation of all Muslims,” the statement said.

It demanded those responsible be handed over to a court for prosecution and punishment.

46 The Albatross  Sat, Sep 1, 2007 11:09:15am

The sketches are hostile toward the "Muslim world"?

First of hostile toward Muslims would be more along the lines of death threats or enmass protests holding placards in Farsi or Arabic saying something like "Death to Muslims" or, I dunno... how about "Ahmadinejad is the Great Satan"?

Second off, there is no Muslim world.... there is one world and they are co-inhabitants. Good, bad or ugly - we all have to share it.

I learned a long time ago that if your enemies believe you will kick in their front door, come in and kill their entire family, and set the place on fire then you won't have to do so.

They will modify their behavior, which is, generally, the point of violence. I've never had to do approaching the most terrible things I've considered, simply because they were credible threats.

We can wipe out the Muslim world. The question is whether or not we will allow them to wipe us out instead.

I don't think that we will.

Islam is no laughing matter, but would be, if some idiots were not deadly serious about it.

58 shanec99  Sat, Sep 1, 2007 11:26:55am

It looks like some of our European friends are becoming annoyed with the misbehavior of our Islamic terrorists. First France elects a friend of America, the Swede tell them politely to shove it when they protest and the Swiss have started a campaign to kick out immigrants and their families if they commit crimes.
[Link: news.yahoo.com...]
It appears that Europeans are tired of the crime, murder, mayhem and rioting that the Islamic militants are terrorizing these societies with. Perhaps if they realize that there are consequences that societies impose on those who behave badly they might change the way they conduct themselves, and start behaving like civilized neighbors who respect the rule of law.

Muhammed was a war-mongering, sick in the head, pedophile who lusted after his own daughter-in-law! He made untold numbers of peoples' lives a living hell. He had people tortured and killed for making fun of him or not giving up the location to treasures after his band of thieves and criminals murdered tribes of people. He enslaved women and children. He made women whose sons he just murdered have sex with him the very same night and distributed women to his band of criminals as reward for killing for him. (Just like his imaginary Allah!)
Muhammed was a disgusting human being, and to call him a dog is a compliment he doesn't deserve!

What actually makes those pictures represent Mooooohammed and a dog, other that that the artist says so?

The headgear is barely reconisable as a turban and that does not automatically it "Mooooohammed". Also the animal part cannot be recognised as a dog, pig or camel.

Some sad losers need to grow up.

You could just as easily make a Mooooohammed from a watermelon or pumpkin with a rag on top of it. Maybe it would be an efficient scarecrow?

The proper response would to tell them to get stuffed.

That's almost what a swedish MP - Johan Pehrson of the Peoples Party - actually said:

Asked whether the editor of NA Ulf Johansson should apologize, Pehrson answers:
– Absolutely not. I've followed his statements on the radio and he has explained his position in an excellent way. We live in a free country and the publishing is within the bounds of tolerance. Those who have a different opinion might consider moving.

And of course he gets an upset response from the influential Yvonne Ruwaida of the Green Party:

– What Pehrson says, that you should leave the country if you disagree, creates a very intolerant debate climate. A very harsh debate climate which we don't benefit from.

They should at least be afraid that we would seriously consider it.

A big part of our problem in the Middle-East is that our enemies can bank on us failing to do them any meaningful harm “till they nuke a major western city.”

Even then, can we really be assured that our leaders in the West would have the nerve to drop a nuke or two?

At others, I am convinced that they do not think at all beyond their base desires for rutting and gluttony.

They need to give thought to what accommodating sharia would do to their "rutting & gluttony", too.

Sorry to interrupt, but I really do not think that we can continue to pussy foot around with these cretins. If we don't elect a strong leader who will tell the muslim's to stuff it, we are screwed.

I just can not see any of the Dem's doing anything but apologizing for the very fact that we exist.

As much as I admire both Tancredo and Hunter, neither of them has a snowballs chance. No one but us knows who they are. The msm will do their damnedest to keep it that way.

I really think Rudy is our only hope. Every one in America knows who he is and saw what a leader he is. I also think he has the cajones to do what is necessary to protect this country.

Go to the wedding.

Enjoy the little moments in life that are pleasant and good.

Drinking, dancing, eating, singing – good times.

Treasure them where you find them.

Look for the good in it.

If nothing else, enjoy the thought at how much some Islamic nutberger would seethe at the thought of all of those people having a good time while drinking, dancing, eating and singing.

Fan-tastic.

This here BBC article might sound like the Swedes are apologizing.

Sweden 'regrets' Prophet cartoon

They're doing nothing of the sort however. They're expressly NOT apologizing. They're "regretting that you feel that way".

But it gets better. Remember the artful Bin-Laden/Jesus and the Virgin Mary/Elephant Shit? Well...

The new drawing depicting the Prophet's head on the body of a dog was published in the Swedish newspaper Nerikes Allehanda on Sunday.

The cartoon's creator, Lars Vilks, told the Associated Press news agency the drawing was art.

"I'm not against Islam. Everybody knows that," he is quoted as saying.

Good on you!

It is a power play.

They saw how their response to the Danish cartoons provoked so much cowardice in the west.

They have every reason to believe that they can exert power over us by stoking themselves up with this kind of outrage.

The proper response would to tell them to get stuffed.

It's a 3 day weekend so Tuesday will be totally taken up with chatting about what those losers did. Late that day they'll notice the cartoon and then be stuck jerking around for at least a day before they can come up with the most grovelling statement possible that flies in the face of the Constitution and Bill of Rights and emasculates us to the max. That will take some effort for those bureaucratic loads so I say early Thursday afternoon.

Muslims believe images of the Prophet are forbidden and consider dogs to be impure.

And all of this time I thought dog was man's best friend and members of the islamic cult were impure. I'll take the dog over a raving muslim mad man any day.

Have often wondered about muslims. They want 72 virgins when they go to heaven. Christians and Jews want only GODs saving grace. This could go a long way explaining why muslims are so mad. All they can expect is 72 virgins, and there can be only so many muslim virgins, while Christians and Jews will have ever lasting peace.

With so many family rapes of young muslim girls, there is going to be a very large shortage of virgins.

140 George guy  Sat, Sep 1, 2007 5:44:21pm

141 Perplexed  Sat, Sep 1, 2007 6:12:06pm

After nearly 14 centuries the muslim prophet for profit (P4P) is a gift that keeps on giving. Are you what muslims consider to be an infidel? Here's some of the things that they feel they can do with impunity:

Kill you if you offend them since that is the way P4P handled interpersonal disputes.
Are you female who doesn't dress according to the muslims dress code? If you said yes then you could consciveably be raped just because you're available and the muslim male(s) have an itch (ok by the P4P).
Do you own property? Good, because according to islam they can take your property and there's nothing you can do about it(oky by the P4P).

Afghanistan complaining about disrespect for another religion? The grossest example of disrespect for another's religion was the destruction by Islamists in Afghanistan of the Buddhist statues carved into a mountain, that were carved in the 6th century. These were the Buddhas of Bamyan. But what is holy to another religion doesn't seem to stop Islamists from their carefully planned destruction. This destruction was done with the help of Saudi and Pakistani engineers.
[Link: en.wikipedia.org...]

In contrast, what Afghanistan is complaining about is not anything comparable to what Afghanistan carried out against Buddhism. It was not the destruction of the Kaaba in Mecca, and the pulverization of the meteorite there. That has not happened. Instead, they are whining mightily over a drawing that someone drew, in exercising a most important freedom, freedom of speech (extended to freedom of drawing).
