In the race to see who can trumpet the most absurdly inflated claim of civilian deaths in Iraq, the idiot known as “Meteor Blades” at Daily Kos comes up a winner: Daily Kos: One Million-Plus Violent Iraqi Deaths (So Far).

That’s right. They’re claiming 1.2 million deaths now. And it’s based on a poll conducted by a British marketing firm.

These people really are incredible. They eagerly suspend their disbelief for ridiculous claims like this, but cover their ears and yell “I can’t hear you!” when General Petraeus testifies.

Nick Brunetti-Lihach points out that in order for this death count to be true, there would have to be at least 668 deaths every single day since the Iraq war began.

UPDATE at 9/18/07 9:13:10 am:

A slight correction, from reader Proud Kaffir:

The person who did the estimate calculated it for 5 years of war but the war will not have lasted five years until March 2008. According to Coalition Casualties, there have been 1642 days since the war began so, using the poll numbers of 1,220,580 deaths, it would average to 743.35 deaths per day.
