AP Quietly Edits Pro-Ahmadinejad Article

Wed, Sep 26, 2007 at 8:28:58 am PDT

That article about Mahmoud Ahmadinejad by Associated Press writer Nahal Toosi we pointed out yesterday, with the outrageous wording about “defending the right to cast doubt on the Holocaust,” has been quietly rewritten today: Ahmadinejad questions 9/11, Holocaust.

Here’s the original lead paragraph:

NEW YORK - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad questioned the official version of the Sept. 11 attacks and defended the right to cast doubt on the Holocaust in a tense appearance at Columbia University, whose president accused the hard-line leader of behaving like “a petty and cruel dictator.”

Here it is now, after an editor noticed that the pro-Ahmadinejad slant was a little too blatant:

NEW YORK - Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad defended Holocaust deniers and raised questions about who carried out the Sept. 11 attacks in a tense showdown Monday at Columbia University where the school’s head introduced the visitor by calling him a “petty and cruel dictator.”

This is how they do it, folks. The first version has already been disseminated around the world, of course.

Changed to:

The Holocaust never happened. No one died in any death camps.

It's the same progression, folks. The fact that ANYONE believes the Holocaust didn't happen 50+ years later is understandable--I've been to Dachau--it happened. But the fact that within DAYS of 9/11, people denied it was a terrorist attack and opted for the "inside job" crap is totally unacceptable.

Its a case of feelings over facts. No one could possibly have coldly and calculatedly exterminated 6 millions Jews, thats inconceivable. They must be making it up as a guilt thing. I'm sure some of them really believe that, like they believe no one would actually hijack a airplane just so they could crash it into a building. Thats just crazy.

Facts don't lie. But then we know how the Libs feel about facts. Fire can't melt steel.

It's all the same plot by Bushitler. All six million people who are unaccounted for from Nazi Europe, plus the crew and passengers of all four airplanes from 9/11, are being held in a secret underground facility in Crawford, Texas.

We haven't done that - once the original story is out there, it's out there permanently. A revised edition may eventually overtake the original, but depending on the story and penetration of the original into the marketplace, the corrected versions may not make a dent on the world stage.

That's a great point!

Go to any journalism school and ask the students why they want to become journalists....the majority will say to change / influence not to report. But even if they do try to 'report' - acting as the first cut at history - the biases and reports set the stage and people will accept what they want to believe.

On the whole "right to cast doubt" issue:

Lets dissect "the right to cast doubt on the Holocaust". The statement is, in fact, wrong. Let's assume for the sake of argument that Mr. A has a "right" to speak about the Holocaust. No real argument there (venue aside). As long as we're talking about "rights" I'll even acknowledge that he has the "right" to deny the Holocaust (because he is not in Germany). It's the "casting doubt" part that is the problem. Casting doubt implies a weight to what he says, implies that his stated beliefs have merit. I'm sorry, Mr. A, the merit of your statements (or lack thereof) is not for you to decide. You have absolutely no right to cast doubt on the Holocaust.

Iranian mortars found in central-southern Iraq

London, Sep. 26 – The Iraqi army confiscated Iranian mortars in an operation in central-southern Iraq on Tuesday, the Multi-National Corps – Iraq (MNC-I) said in a statement on Wednesday.

Scouts from the 8th Iraqi army division confiscated and destroyed the mortars along with roadside bombs which were part of a large weapons cache following an intelligence driven operation September 25 in Diwaniyah

“Iraqi forces learned that criminal elements were hiding the cache of explosively formed penetrators and mortars in a secret storage facility. The deadly weapons are responsible for many Iraqi and Coalition fatalities”, the MNC-I said.

The forces confiscated the following materials: three RPG rounds, one EFP case, three EFPs, one shape charge for an improvised explosive device, 12 81mm Iranian mortars, detonator cords, batteries, ammunition, sniper rifle parts and magazines, and a large amount of fuses, blasting caps, homemade firing devices and explosive primers, and a large amount of “terrorist propaganda”.

I have seen this done a couple of times and it is insidious. The first version is what gets all the play in newspapers and news reports around the world while the "corrected" version gets archived. The AP can therefore play to anti-american sentiment to their world wide audience and have their butts covered if anybody researches it later for bias. You would think some enterprising journalist would see a story here.

Your lack of understanding is the real problem, not his questioning of 9/11 or defense of Holocaust deniers.

Unbelievably, Columbia Daily Spectator editorial board spins Ahmadinejad's speech as a successful hostage negotiation;

Tajbakhsh’s Freedom

What was lost in the debate surrounding Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s visit to Columbia is one of the most important reasons for the University to celebrate. On the same day the invitation to Ahmadinejad was announced, Kian Tajbakhsh, who received his Ph.D. at Columbia, was freed from the Iranian prison that he had been held in since May. Tajbakhsh, an urban planner and adviser to the Open Society Institute, was one of several Iranian-Americans arrested in Iran in recent months—none of whom were charged with specific crimes. Iranian prisons are notoriously unjust and are often used as tools to silence political dissidents. In the absence of a proper legal system, it can take years to release a prisoner, especially one held simply for being an American citizen. While there is no direct causal link between the University’s invitation to the Iranian president and Tajbakhsh’s release, calls for his release from both President Lee Bollinger and Dean John Coatsworth kept the issue from disappearing from the public eye.

Tajbakhsh’s freedom would be reason enough for the University to celebrate. But in his introduction to the Iranian president, President Bollinger called on Ahmadinejad to allow Tajbakhsh to leave Tehran, where he is under house arrest, and offered the alumnus a position next semester as an adjunct professor in the School of Urban Planning. With the platform Bollinger had, he made Tajbakhsh’s return to the United States a national issue.

Whether or not one agrees with the political implications of inviting Ahmadinejad to speak at Columbia, the event was an excellent platform to address this essential issue. The Iranian leader’s talk may not have had the global impact that Bollinger had hoped for; it may not have answered the questions people wanted answered. But [But, BUT! ] it drew international attention to the plight of Tajbakhsh and other academics who are unjustly imprisioned. If this is all Bollinger’s opening statement accomplished, then it can be considered a success.

If they're lucky, he won't be returned in the same condition as the late photo-journalist, Zahra Kazemi.

I watched a programme on Five (UK) last night called - Auschwitz-the Great Escape:Revealed.
It was about 2 Slovak Jews who escaped from Auschwitz in 1944 and tried to save the Hungarian Jews. In the process they also brought the situation to the attention of the west. One of them was called Rudolf Vrbe (?sp) who wrote a detailed report of what the Germans were doing there. It included film from the time. It was very interesting.

I guess Dinnerjacket missed it...

There is so much evidence from records to film taken during the war to film taken by the liberaters of the various concentration camps to the people who were there and still alive. Why is this old chestnut still swingin'?

AP Quietly Edits Pro-Ahmadinejad Article

While news broadcasting was much different in the days leading up to the Shoah as well as the atrocities which took place therein, the news was formulated to accomplish a desired effect. Alas, little changes.

The problem then and the problem now while being different is exactly the same.
Except now we are impotent. We the strongest country on the planet can not face off with tyrants be it Iran, Syria, N. Korea, etc. We rid the world of Sadam yet we do nothing when it comes to Syria, Iran N. Korea, etc. (only toothless condemnations) As an example countries like Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and China do not even get a mention as to having the worst human rights. For the sake of pure unmitigated appeasement Egypt suffers no consequence for all these years allowing thousands of weapons tunnels dug to bring slaughter to Jews! What happened to that famous speech when our president spoke of those who harbor terror and the consequences they might suffer because of it ? Forget it, they are now our friends. And in so doing we give up our precious rights as our lives hang in the balance.

We push Israel and pressure them to accept a holocaust denier simply to appease our enemies otherwise that would not be happening. Goodness, the president promised the day after his inauguration he would sign the embassy act. How can the world look upon Israel as legitimate when they do not poses a legitimate capital? Throw in the extreme bias, hate, divestment, the ultra left, those who claim to be friends and are not and innate prejudice from the rest of the world and this surely makes for a sad commentary. Goodness, look at the members of the US led quartet and one might wonder if what they all say and how they expect it is really true!? And the Secretary of State sent to spew SQUEW the message. I ask, what is happening here?

....which leads me to this question from another thread I was unable to post on yet I find this relevant to this discussion. How can we monitor the possible crap coming from mosques when we can not even do a decent job monitoring the borders of our country no less who is here and most important who should not be. Last time I heard we are now allowing about 100 Mexican trucking companies to come across.

Sorry for the rant but it is not just one thing but everything which makes our picture look mighty bleak. When you talk about having a lot on your plate, when it comes to the security and protection of all we hold dear, I would say we are screwed.

AP is a small player as far as I am concerned. They appease no more or no less then those we elect to office and those we claim to be our new friends.

62 realwest  9/26/07 9:30:55 am reply quote 1

Well, y'all know if it's anything from the Associated (with terrorists) Press, you need to be suspicious. But this is about as blatant a change in their more obvious bias that I recall seeing. Thanks Charles.
However, since we are talking about Holocaust Deniers, it's ironic and instructive that when Gen. Eisenhower visited one of the death camps (sorry, don't remember which one) Gen. Patton was with him and (this is from Eisenhower's Diaries) Ike said "Georgie, come with me to inspect those showers and gas chambers". Patton said - respectfully - that I can't do that Ike - we're still at war and I don't think it's appropriate for combat troops to see their commander puking his guts out". Ike insisted, saying "Georgie, if men like you and I don't pay witness to this, there will come a time when people will deny it ever happened."
Ya know for a President who was frequently knocked by the Dems as being not too bright, Eisenhower was sure as hell right on target with that one.

re: #6 cosmo

Let me clarify: there are some who don't know about the holocaust,
and therefore don't know whether it happened or not--because of the
passing of time.

The onus is on us (no pun intended) to ensure that history is
accurately presented. And, in light of recent left efforts, that task
is getting more and more difficult...and I'm getting more and more
determined.

Take this little nugget: My first grader went to school in CA and
they brought up Kwanzaa and how they were going to celebrate it. My
little sweet daughter tells the teacher:

Kwanzaa is a made-up holiday, made up by a convicted felon. It's not a real holiday.

Start
'em young folks--you know the moonbats are. Don't believe me? Log onto
zombietime and take a good look at the crowds...it's child abuse.

Your child is a genius. I wish I could have seen that.

I have a little hope left when it comes people learning about the Holocaust. It used to be that people used to flat out deny that it happened. But the evidence is so abundant that even the worst nuts now hardly ever claim anything beyond it having been "exaggerated". I see that as a step in the right direction. Hopefully years from now, only institutionalized people will be disconnected enough to think that there was even an exaggeration.

I'm not as hopeful when it comes to 9/11 Conspiracy Theories because explaining structural mechanics to idiots is not easy. (Few things make my blood boil than Truthers)
