Israel Practices One-Way Good Will (Again)
Fifty-seven Palestinian prisoners were released today as a “good will gesture” by Israel, one of those “good will gestures” that always seem to be repaid with violence and murder: Israel frees 57 Palestinian prisoners.
Associated Press writer Mohammed Daraghmeh brings us the touching story of a gruff yet kind-hearted old codger, reunited at last with his loving family:
Among those released was 66-year-old Rakad Salim, who served five years of an eight-year sentence for distributing millions of dollars from the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers. His relatives and supporters held up pictures of Saddam and kissed and hugged him after he got off the bus.
“I feel that I am a new man, enjoying my freedom,” said a smiling Salim. “This release is not enough, but we hope it is the beginning of emptying all the (Israeli) prisons.”
Peace is at hand.
