Obama Will Wipe Out Nukes

Tue, Oct 2, 2007 at 1:18:24 pm PDT

After he invades Pakistan, and opens diplomatic relations with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Barack Obama will eliminate nuclear weapons.

CHICAGO - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama on Tuesday called for ridding the world of nuclear weapons, arguing that U.S. policy is still focused on the defunct Soviet Union instead of combatting the nuclear threat from rogue nations and terrorists.

In a speech that also highlighted his early opposition to the Iraq war, Obama said he doesn’t want the United States to disarm unilaterally [...he’s not quite that stupid. – ed.], but instead to work with other nations to phase out nuclear weapons and control nuclear material.

“The best way to keep America safe is not to threaten terrorists with nuclear weapons — it’s to keep nuclear weapons and nuclear materials away from terrorists,” Obama said.

Of course! It’s so simple. Why didn’t anyone think of this before?

Nuclear weapons are latent in the periodic table, in the laws of physics.

We were meant to find them; and the most moral people should have the biggest weapons, or the evil will prey upon the weak.

Only a fool disarms

And when he does

evil jumps at the chance.

Obama = fool.

This rhetoric appeals to the Birkenstocks crowd, but its yet another reason Mr. Obama is unfit to be commander-in-chief of the USA.

He's also certainly misrepresenting the current policy of the USA.

Post 9-11 our spooks have been VERY interested in extra-Soviet, extra-state actor nukes.

I also don't recall anybody threatening terrorists with nukes, though I do recall Mr. Obama threatening our ally Pakistan.

32 lawhawk  Tue, Oct 2, 2007 1:26:27pm

Obama should start by making sure that the rogue regimes NEVER GET THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Of course, he's going to focus on eliminating the US capabilities before moving on to the real difficult task of eliminating nukes from those that might actually use them against the US.

Still, keep in mind that the US is in the process of deconstructing its nuclear weapons arsenal and is actually ahead of schedule on disarming the warheads (dismantled 3x as many as projected in fact - though actual numbers are classified), even as a replacement warhead system is under development without the aid of actual underground testing.

Yeah the cold war threat is over, get rid of the Nuclear weapons:

Russian Bombers Rehearse Nuclear Attacks Against the United States

Calling on Russian pilots to resume "combat duty," Russian President Vladimir Putin announced Aug. 17 [2007] that his country's strategic nuclear bombers would resume their Cold War-era practice of conducting long-range patrols "on a permanent basis." He told reporters that "our pilots have spent too long on the ground. I know that they are happy to now have this chance to begin a new life and we wish them luck." Although the main function of these aircraft is to conduct nuclear missile strikes against the continental United States, Putin said he hoped that other countries would show "understanding" for the Russian decision.

In the real world, the fact that you have nukes enters into the calculations of the enemy - if he is at least partly rational - wether you 'threaten' with them or not; just to have them is a threat 24-7.

Of course, maybe this enemy is not rational at all.

But a weapon, used, might protect us from an irrational enemy.

Maybe it will come to that. Their choice.

Large location in SA, complete with rock.

Um, I really don't think so.

For one thing, if Al Qaeda had gotten their hands on weapons-grade anthrax spores, they would NOT have mailed it to people accompanied with helpful notes instructing them to start taking antibiotics. They'd have tried to infiltrate it in the NYC subway system vents or something of the sort.

President of France did so threaten.

I believe the EX-Prime Minister of France threatened to nuke STATES who employed terrorism.

So I suppose then, that Mr. Obama doesn't want to model American foreign policy on French foreign policy.

Does that require explicit pointing out?

With respect to the totality of Obama's remarks, he's just in La-La land.

-He doesn't want us to unilaterally give up nukes.
Guess what, we're not.

-He doesn't want us to threaten to nuke terrorists.
Guess what, we didn't.

-He wants us to focus on terrorist non-State actors.
Guess what, we are.

-He wants us to "work with other nations" to control nuclear material. . .

Really, quite a bunch of "cutting edge" foreign policy concepts coming from Mr. Obama here.

It REALLY looks like he's a foreign policy infant first considering these matters, not exactly a trait to be desired of someone whose finger is to be on the button.

And it bears repeating that if he isn't qualified to be President, he's also not qualified to be VICE-President, one heartbeat away from the Presidency.

I can't see it. Why would they warn us? AQ likes to kill as many infidels as possible. With the anthrax threat KNOWN, everyone started stocking up on Cipro, and the post office started zapping the mail to kill it. The key thing about anthrax is; take antibiotics upon exposure, and you're probably fine. OTOH, once you become symptomatic, nothing can save you. Bloodthirsty goons like AQ would NOT give a warning or demonstration prior to large-scale deployment of this stuff, if they had it; it would defeat their purpose.

Forty-six Muslim countries contributed 1.17% of the world's science literature, whereas 1.66% came from India alone and 1.48% from Spain. Twenty Arab countries contributed 0.55%, compared with 0.89% by Israel alone. The US NSF records that of the 28 lowest producers of scientific articles in 2003, half belong to the OIC.

Obama is thinking about preventing mushroom clouds, but he still doesn't "get" it.

Nuclear weapons are about threat and deterrence. State actors don't have to actually detonate the nukes to get the benefit of having them.

Its analogous to a cop with a pistol. He doesn't have to fire the gun, or even take it out of his holster to affect the behavior of those around.

Throwing away our nukes wouldn't reduce the incentive for rogue states to acquire nukes, it would actually INCREASE it.

It's hard to believe that in 1960, both Richard Nixon and JFK could both run on a policy endorsing a strong national defense....and whatever his faults, one could not say that JFK was "soft on Communism."

Here's a timely quote - can anyone guess the author?

“There was a time, when the liberalism of the old elite was a venturesome and fighting philosophy — the vanguard political dogma of a Franklin Roosevelt, a Harry Truman, a John Kennedy. But you know and I know that the old firehorses are long gone. Today’s breed of radical-liberal posturing in the Senate is as closely related to Harry Truman as a Chihuahua is to a timberwolf.”

re: #47 xenophobic

Obama's comments are patented Democrat Naivete, but I think Putin's actions here were mostly hilarious. Has anyone seen the pictures of NATO jets escorting these new Russian bomber patrols? The juxtaposition of a third generation fighter trailing these huge, lumbering, prop-driven Russian bombers speaks volumes. The Russian bombers look to be the same Bear derivatives that were patterned on stolen US WWII superfortress designs - they even have tail guns! It's like Russia is stuck in 1961.

He will "balance" the ticket with Hillary by being the First Black VP Candidate, as she is the First Woman Presidential Candidate--and to provide her with a shield from criticism by being a) more visibly left than she, and b) being black.

G*d help us, it's going to be like having f-cking Chairman Mao as head of the United States, but without the astute political insight or the planning ability. They'll be two halves of one whole, but the whole will be Fat Elvis River-Swimming Mao, not Cunning Young Planner Mao.

When I asked why, and wanted to want about his accomplishments, she couldn't name one- she just said, "Oh, he's done lots of things."
She thinks because he's nice and he's black, he'll be able to "bring the country together, and heal old wounds".
The only news she gets, by the way, is BBC, and PBS. Gag.

213 Sifty  Tue, Oct 2, 2007 2:18:37pm

I'd be surprised at his stupidity if it wasn't exactly what I expected.

He is the snotty nephew of politics, sitting at the kids' table and hating every minute of it. He is desperately demanding respect and attention, and he's willing to piss his pants in Toys R Us to get it!

Fear of nuclear weapons on the part of rational enemies is one of the only reasons the US still exists. It ain't because they love us too much to attack.

Without our nukes, Putin could well be presiding over USSR Part 2 from his Western Kremlin in Paris or Prague or even London instead of in Moscow where he is.

If we don't want landing craft full of Chinese infantry hitting the beaches in Long Beach in the future, we better keep a few nukes around until EVERYONE decides to play nice in the sandbox.

she replies, "look" and points skyward.

Well I'll be danged... a jet contrail was in the sun just right and wouldn't you know it... it was a RAINBOW. not a raindrop for miles, yet there was a rainbow. it was just amazing. This is Barak addressing college students at De Paul. Just what we need, students who think that instead of being in school to learn they are there to question a foreign policy they know next to nothing about. When I tried going to college last year (it is back to work for me now) most of my classmates were without a clue as to what was going on in the world and why. The limit of their understanding was Bush = Bad, Clinton = Good. I asked my calculus study group to point out Iran on a map and if the map wasn't clearly marked in big letters they would have never found it. This bozo Obama makes Hillary Clinton look like a foreign policy genius.

And there sir, resides your clue.

Barak F* Obama makes me swear out loud even whether I am by myself or in front of impressionable children.

@$%^& @#$% What a moron. I don't care if GWBush can say "nukular" or "new klee are" at least he knows what the damn things are for.
The G$&*** PLA ( [Link: www.globalsecurity.org...] ) has 2.3 million people in it, and they are at peace with the world. How many people do you think they are going to have when it comes time to start expanding? The US has about 1.4 million, but they have ten times our population-- guess whose army is going to be ten times bigger (or more) than ours if the fit hits the shan? There isn't enough 7.62 ammo in the free world to stop the PLA. The only thing keeping the PLA at home is the promise of a huge payday when we ever redeem our debts -- oh and the nuclear missiles buried in North Dakota!

*"F" aint for Hussein either!

Obama and the rest are empty suits. There is no one on the left and only a couple on the right I'd trust to run the country. The house and senate are full of "running dog" socialist lackeys. We basically need a "conservative" party, not a shitload of damn rinos! Also the Bear bomber has been around longer than the B-52 and is a very useful recon aircraft. The Soviet Union maybe dead but I think Putin has an idea of a new Russian empire and don't forget the Chinese.

292 Malleus Dei  Tue, Oct 2, 2007 4:20:04pm

My God, who suggested this naive idiocy to Obama? And why on earth would Obama actually speak in public about something so childish that only a third-grader or a moonbat could ever believe in it?

Nuclear disarmament? In the middle of a war? By the likes of Russia, China, India, Pakistan, Iran, and North Korea? How ignorant does he think Americans are about the world?

I would feel sorry for the man if he wasn't suggesting totally stupid that would put my family at greater risk of being nuked. His opponents will make him look like a buffoon over this, and well they should.

On the other hand, this is sure to please somebody; proposing something this clueless, naive and inherently suicidal on foreign policy is just so perfectly Leftist that you can bet that the tinfoil-hat moonbats that pollute the Democratic Party will be jumping for joy over it.

I wouldn't be so certain that Hillary would offer Barry Hussein the number #2 spot. She already has the black and Illinois vote locked up, so he won't offer anything there. Look for her to choose as a running mate someone thought to be able to attract votes from the rust belt and/or the South.

re:

I don't think that he will make the nomination, but those qualities are what will give him the #2 slot.

I don't think he gets the VP slot. The Democrats, and the calculating Clintons, may figure that a woman and a Black is too much for the American people to take in one explosive shot.

But I still believe - maybe giving too much credit to Democrats- that they end up not nominating Hillary.

And against many of the Republicans it won't be what Obama says and may do, it will be his charisma- and a feel good act of proving what a great democratic people we are that a Black can be elected President- that gets him elected.

Check out this courage!

DEMS FOR FUNDING THE WAR: "The spending bill passed overwhelmingly, 92-3, with only Robert Byrd, Tom Coburn, and Russ Feingold in opposition. Tellingly, the Democrats running for office from the Senate all managed to miss the vote -- Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, ChrIs Dodd, and Joe Biden. . . . Roll Call reports that the House will take up supplemental funding bills for the Iraq deployment, but that none of them call for any withdrawals."

Why hasn't this gotten more attention, I wonder?

Even the tribal elders of a caveman village fighting over the location of the communal lavatory would have shown more common sense and responsibility in making a decision than these clowns. Moments after Obama is sworn in as the United States President in January, 2009... Rain will turn to a rainbow of skittles raining from the sky!

"Why do birds suddenly appear...everytime...you are near..." Karen Carpenter's "Close to you" will be heard from the heavens.

People will open their refridgerators to find that they are filled front to back, top to bottom....with GOLD!

Crime will cease as criminals start beautifying cities that were once slums (Detroit and St. Louis particularly come to mind)...

Then... Reality will set in. Skittles are an environmental disaster and will clog sewage lines, the GOLD in the refridgerator contains trace amounts of mercury which now have made millions of homes uninhabitable, criminals planted marijuana instead of flowers, and ...worst of all... Karen Carpenter will drive normal humans legally insane after 3 hours.

He is also not Black, nor has that constituency. He also doesn't have Obama's charisma. Most importantly, nor his money and support and media love.

Sure Obama would lose Southern States. He can still manage 270 Electoral votes.

This reminds me of a Monty Python piece where they're sitting around and pretending they're doing a TV show called something like "How to do.." and they're telling the audience how to do things like solve all the diseases of the world or play the flute. =)

Paraphrasing here but Eric plays this woman who informs the audience all cheerily how to cure world diseases forever and it goes something like this: "First, go to medical school and then develop a cure which will eliminate all the diseases of the world. And then when people tell you that you've got it wrong, you can jolly well show them who's right!"

And then John Cleese shows a flute and says "Well, you blow in the top here and you move your fingers up and down these holes."

Falls along the same lines, don't you think? =)

Cranked off my twice a week letters to shitty government officials tonight. I'm thinking of just making a form letter to save time, like Numbers USA does.

This one was for Dingy Harry, but it pretty much applies to them all.
It's kind of a letter to him and a prayer at the same time. If G-d even listens about politicians anymore, I hope he works on this one.

Please stop trying to silence Rush Limbaugh like a two-bit Stalin.

Please stop trying to make my beloved country lose a war to advance your socialist moonbat kook fringe agenda.

Please stop speaking and writing the English language aloud and where people may accidentally read and pay attention to them.

re: #293 neocon hippie

Obama's value is as a totem for the white vote--the leftists to whom he panders and the liberals who will jump at the chance to vote for a "clean, articulate" (read: no bling and no Ebonics) black man for President, and then for the First Black Candidate for Vice President.

Obama also mollifies the nutroots, since his positions are more clearly and openly to the left than Hillary's.

The nutroots are losers (in the literal sense of the term).
Mollifying them is, at best, only necessary to win the nomination. After their their blessing is a sure way to lose an election.
Clinton doesn't need to carry the left. . .she already has that, and if she doesn't have it all now, she inherit it after being nominated. She needs to carry the center. That's what wins elections.

And as to Clinton, she may have the lead among Democrats, but she still carries the highest dislikeability numbers among all the candidates, particularly among male voters. Obama doesn't fix her problem; she'll need someone else.

but instead to work with other nations to phase out nuclear weapons and control nuclear material

You mean, like ask them please stop their nuclear material stockpiling?

Obviously, forcing them to comply is out of the question. That might make them angry. They might become downright grumpy. They might even disagree strongly.

I nominate Obama to ask Iran to please end their nuclear aspirations. Pretty please, with sugar on top.

Damn, that was simple. Wish we'd tried that with the likes of Hitler. Who knew? Please is the magic word, dontchya know.

it’s to keep nuclear weapons and nuclear materials away from terrorists,” Obama said.

Is it the U.S. that would supply terrorists with nuclear material or would that possibly be Russia, China or North Korea. Throwing your gun away when confronted by a bully with a club, sounds kinda stupid to me. But then I'm not a Liberal.
