One by one, we’re stomping the bugs around here. The big one we stomped last week has solved the problem of those server crashes that were happening almost daily; we haven’t had a server lockup in almost two weeks. Yay. The hamsters are positively beaming.

And today another bug, less catastrophic but more annoying, has been solved. You may have noticed (depending on which browser you use) that after you used LGF’s features for a while, suddenly the dynamic stuff would stop working correctly; the ‘new comments’ button would reload the whole page instead of just the new comments, or the rating buttons would cease functioning altogether. This insect has been driving me crazy.

The solution was upgrading to the latest version of John Resig’s terrific jQuery Javascript library. Something in the previous version, or something in our code that used that version, was causing memory leaks—and those leaks are now plugged. I’m still investigating the cause (because I like to know why these things happen) but the important thing is that the bug is dead. Long live the bug.

But enough of the technical mumbo jumbo. Here’s that open thread I promised…

 Frank says:

You don't have the slightest understanding of the difference between government action and private action, and you have certainly destroyed any case you might otherwise have had with this Senator. -- Senator Gorton, to which Frank Zappa responds with "Is this private action?"
