At 10:45 am Pacific time, Britain’s The Spectator will be live-streaming audio of an interesting debate:

Tomorrow night [The debate is today; this quote is from yesterday. – ed.] from 6:45 pm, we’ll be broadcasting via this site a debate on the motion, “We should not be reluctant to assert the superiority of Western values.”

There is an all star cast of speakers involved.  David Aaronovitch, Douglas Murray and Ibn Warraq are speaking for the motion while Tariq Ramadan, William Dalrymple and Charles Glass are opposing it. Click here to read a piece that Douglas has written for us setting out his position.

I’m not sure why this is even a debatable subject, but with Ibn Warraq and Tariq Ramadan on opposing sides, there could be fireworks.

UPDATE at 10/9/07 10:24:21 am:

A link to the live audio stream is on the Spectator’s home page.

Don't clap for destroying America. This place is as good as you want to make it. -- Zappa introduced "Billy the Mountain" by revealing that Billy and Ethel took a vacation trip across the United States, destroying it in the process. This was Zappa's response to the applause and cheers from the audience. Cleveland Colliseum, 1971
