Another Use for the Multi-Purpose Burqa

Wed, Oct 17, 2007 at 9:12:25 pm PDT

That amazingly versatile Islamic garment, the burqa, is not only handy for oppressing women—it’s also the perfect multi-culturally immune disguise for robbing banks: Burka Bandit Hits Hiddenite Bank.

HIDDENITE, N.C. — Police are investigating an unusual robbery in Hiddenite. Someone dressed in a burgundy burka walked into the People’s Bank at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, showed the teller a handgun and demanded money.

The robber then took off down N.C. 90 in a burgundy sport utility vehicle.

Authorities are looking into whether this bank robbery can be connected to one in Morganton. An androgynously dressed person held up a bank there last week.

Officers aren’t sure whether they’re looking for a man or a woman in either case.

It was just a matter of time.

It wasn't the first time, but it may have been the first time the perpetrator wore a burgundy burqua that matched his or her burgundy getaway vehicle. Nice touch... although a real Muslim would probably have to be stoned to death for wearing a burqua whose color is named after an alcoholic beverage. I'm not sure -- does anyone have a copy of the "reasons why people have to be stoned to death" fatwa handy?

16 Carridine  Wed, Oct 17, 2007 9:22:59pm

This might very well be the cutting edge of a new thieving technique.

Not wishing for it, or wanting it, just expecting it.

You know,if they glued hair on those burka's they would look just like Cousin It on the Adam's Family. Plus they could use them when they go Trick R' Treating.

18 1389  Wed, Oct 17, 2007 9:24:04pm

Yep, for all we know, OBL himself is out there hiding in a burqa. He might have to hunker down a bit so as not to look so tall, but the burqa would conceal that too.

It's been said here often.

This is good, if reason prevails(of course it hasn't so far) NO MORE BURKAS ALLOWED IN BANKS! Seems obvious doesn't it? A good start.

What kind of utter stupidity allows someone wearing a FULL BODY MASK, that has enough room in it to conceal an RPG, into a bank?

This is beyond PC. This is beyond brain dead. This is indescribably stupid.

A thread over at CiF went on for hundreds of posts and I was the only person who noted that allowing people to run around incognito was like a license to steal/kill/pillage... The Sethe-O-Matic says

This story is being used by bigots to spread the false claim that all Muslims are bank robbers! For years now Muslims have had to deal with bing labeled "terrorists" and now they will have to deal with the label of "bandit".

This is yet another injustice that Muslims suffer in American society and cannot persist. No one should be surprised if a victim of this oppression were to act out against society in a violent manner.

We should seek common dialog and understanding so that everyone is a welcomed participant in American society. Americans can start this process by reading the Qu'uran and submitting to Allah's will.

People keep writing about their fears of mobs of miscreants wearing KKK sheets, even though that does not happen any more, and hasn't happened for a long time.

But now you have a larger number of people wearing similarly opaque disguises, with at least as much violent intent in many cases, and we just accept it as though it's normal.

Simple solution, allow burka wearers in public only when accompanied by an adult person who is not shrouded.
Forbid driving while wearing the burka as well. It limits necessary view.

And some complain that muslims never invented anything, only stole others' inventions. Not true. Look at this versatile device. It's a fashion statement, religious talisman, guarantor of chastitity, burglary tool, and a rape shield all in one.

It is not safe to interfere with it. Some guys, after seeing their wives minus the burqa, were known to go and blow themselves up.

OT, but only slightly
(thieves in disguise)
Barry Hussein Obama was on Leno tonight. The guy is sorta smart, very personable, and a raving moonbat (cradle-to-grave socialism, no civil rights under the 2nd Amendment, etc.). Along the way, in one of several swipes at President Bush, Obama implied that the President is not sober. He also referred to Alberto Gonzales' shredding of the Constitution. I've heard that a lot this week, and still can't figure out what the hell that refers to in the real world.
Leno asked him about the President's already-mischaracterized comment about the likelihood of World War III if Iran gets nukes. Obama hit all the Kerry-esque talking points about diplomacy, world pressure on Iran, and the need for foreign consensus on U.S. actions. He also stated that we have a war in Afghanistan, a war in Iraq, and are stretched too thin for another war.
Barry, words have meaning. We are not in multiple wars. We are in one War.

Afghanistan, Iraq, Israel, and other battle zones are not wars, they are campaigns in a much larger war. This distinction seems to be lost on most of the MSM, a large portion of Congress, pretty much the whole of Hollyweird, and a largish chunk of the public.

[Link: herbertsobel.blogspot.com...]
Yeah, Barry, we're stretched thin. The Army is capped at about 450,000 total soldiers at the moment, by Act of Congress. We had more than that in Viet Nam alone in the late '60s at the height of that war.

I am not going to rant about the overuse of antibiotics..I knew in the late 1950's, as a student RN..we were warned. It was never expected this soon.

Please, please never ask for an antibiotic for a cold, etc., or any non-bacterial condition. Antibiotics do nothing for a virus. A school in CT has 1 kid confirmed with Staph, and another is a possible. A kid died in Virginia, I think..and the school is closed for disinfection.

Watch your kids, and teach them about hand sanitizers. We worry about an influenza pandemic..this has a potential to be worse..

My understanding is that devout Muslims supposedly can't have anything to do with the filthy infidel invention of interest. (They have convoluted ways around this but they wouldn't be available at your garden-variety bank).

Therefore, anyone in a burka (signal of religiosity) isn't coming in to attend to her account but to make an unauthorized withdrawal!

(Counterpoint: Maybe savings account interest is now so low that it can be considered non-interest for Muslim purposes LOL?)

145 Kenneth  Thu, Oct 18, 2007 5:39:22am

The burqa bandit is nothing new. A pair of men, one disguised in a burqa, robbed a number of Toronto area jewelry stores last year. I don't know if the bandits were ever caught.

And this,

SARAJEVO (Reuters) - Two armed men disguised as Muslim women in burqas held up a bank in Sarajevo and got away with some $40,000, Bosnian police said on Tuesday.

They said the pair entered a Union bank branch in the capital wearing head-to-toe black dresses and veils typical of women adhering to the orthodox Islamic code and trained guns on customers. They then made customers lie on the floor while the emptied the tills, police added.

"Everything happened in a moment. Two persons in black niqabs (burqas) came into the bank. I thought they were ladies," the Sarajevo daily Oslobodjenje quoted bank customer Mehmedalija Komarac as saying.

Women in burqas and men with long beards have become a common sight in the Bosnian capital in recent years.

But now you have a larger number of people wearing similarly opaque disguises, with at least as much violent intent in many cases, and we just accept it as though it's normal.

Here's a serious question:

Could a bank refuse service to a customer in a Burka (I'm not talking about Bank Robbers here just customers) ?

Banks have the right to require identification; it's a pretty common practice when cashing a check for example. However, even if the identification shows a face, it's not worth much if the face is hidden behind a burka.

Could the Bank be successfully charged with religious discrimination for refusing service? If a Burka can be prohibited, then what about a seikh and his turban and beard?
