 RetweetEuropean Anti-Terror Sweep

Tue, Nov 6, 2007 at 9:42:56 am PST

Italian police headed up a large sweep of terror suspects in several European countries today, arresting 20 Islamic extremists who were in the process of setting up terrorist recruitment and training cells.

Two men have been arrested in Britain as part of a European anti-terror operation led by Italian police.

A total of 20 suspected Islamic extremists were arrested across Italy, Britain, France and Portugal today on charges ranging from association with the aim of committing international terrorism, to falsifying documents to aid illegal immigrants.

Police believe the detainees had been setting up “Salafist jihadi” militant cells, which have recruited and assisted would-be suicide bombers in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The operation, ordered by Milan prosecutors, targeted the northern Italian cities of Milan, Bergamo, Varese and Reggio Emilia as well as Britain, France and Portugal.

Italian police said they had seized poisons, remote ignition devices for explosives, and manuals on guerrilla warfare and how to produce explosives.

The suspects are also accused of illegal immigration, falsifying identity documents and helping to hide people sought for terrorist activity.

In Britain, the Metropolitan Police extradition unit arrested a 34-year-old man in Croydon, and a 53-year-old man in Manchester.

The arresting officers will be sentenced to sensitivity training, maybe lose their jobs.

The families* of those arrested will now be placed into a 100% tax-free welfare program for the next 20 years. The legal system will be burdened with $500,000,000 in cost to prosecute the cases. The effect is the same as if they all died and destroyed property in a terrorist attack, except for loss of innocent life. The Islamic goal has been achieved. This is why someday in the not to distant future deportation will become a viable option if not a necessary one in order for the West to have a chance at all to survive. If you think that the West can live in peace with Islam you are as loony as the LLL. IMHO.

Islamic extremists involved in a deadly fire fight with police this month had blueprints of foreign embassies and documents naming foreign envoys, Tunisia's official news agency quoted the interior minister as saying Friday.

Interior Minister Rafik Haj Kacem described the extremists as "terrorists" in a closed door meeting with members of Tunisia's governing party, the TAP news agency reported.

“It concerns a group of terrorist Salafists who infiltrated (Tunisia) via the Algerian border,” Rafik Belhadj Kacem was quoted as saying.

He who laughs last, laughs the longest.

The Moslem monarch gave a sword as a present, no doubt with Mohammed's remark in mind that "I have been commanded to kill all mankind".

The Pope gave him, in return, a print of a building that symbolizes the Christian faith, no doubt with Christ's remark in mind that "The gates of hell shall not prevail against it".

I want to be very, very clear, however: I understand and agree with the analysis of the problem. There is an imminent threat. It manifested itself on 9/11. It's real and grave. It is as serious a threat as Stalinism and National Socialism were. Let's not pretend it isn't.

Italian police nabs immigrants under terrorism charges
Law 11/6/2007 9:05:00 PM

MILAN, North Italy, Nov 6 (KUNA) -- The Italian security forces arrested Tuesday some 20 Muslim immigrants under charges of recruiting terrorists for attacks against other European countries.
The detainees are suspected of being part of a terrorist cell that recruited youth for "jihad" (holy war) in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere, said the Carabinieri, the national military police of Italy in a statement here.
The arrests started on Tuesday early morning in Milan, capital of Lombardia province, and Reggio Emilia, Emilia Romania province, the statement noted.
Other suspects are still at large in the United Kingdom, France and Portugal, it added.

OT Jimmy Carter decided that he should reach out to Jewish groups in advance of his "helping" out with the Annapolis summit.

With the exception of the some very liberal and far left Jewish groups, the mainstream Jewish community told him to go pound sand.

The article is notable for this money quote:

“He left the room less happy than Lincoln was when he left the Ford Theatre,” said Rep. Gary Ackerman, a New York Democrat who attended the meeting.

Later in the article, ADL's Abe Foxman added this verbal slam:

“He is entitled not to support Israel, but he is not entitled to come out and fuel antisemitic canards.”

Jimmy's Anti-Jewish book is now on sale for less than $3.00. Soon to make an appearance in many of those $1.00 book stores you can find along interstate highways. Next year they will be shredded for packing filler, finally put to good use.

Burn them to generate electricity.

Several Evacuated As Police Investigate Possible Explosive Device

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Orlando Police Department and Fire Department were on the scene of what they were calling a non-detonated device Tuesday afternoon.

The device was found at the 8600-block of Warwick Shore Crossing. As a result of the situation, police have evacuated Primrose Daycare, the Lee Vista Quiznos and the Lee Vista Planet Smoothie.

The Orlando Fire Department was waiting for the Air Force bomb unit to arrive to investigate the device more closely.

A History of Liberal Disasters
By Jeffrey Lord
Published 11/6/2007 12:07:43 AM

It's a long list.

Add Hillary Clinton's endorsement of driver's licenses for illegal immigrants ("it makes sense") to a very long list.

The list? A seemingly unending series of bad policy proposals and loopy values that liberals have championed during the course of decades. What all of these subjects have in common is that they upended common sense in favor of a fit of moral superiority and emotional feel-goodism. They are a history of liberal disasters. All backfired or were proved dead wrong. Sometimes they were outright lethal. Collectively they are part and parcel of the real reason the once honorable term "liberal" has won such disdain from so many Americans when it isn't being hooted out of a serious policy discussion with laughter. And lying just under the surface of all the current crop of polls that predict a Democrat victory in the race for the White House is the lurking reality that any candidate who makes a point of flying the liberal flag stands a serious chance of being defeated outright. Why, after all, do you think Senator Clinton hemmed and hawed her way through the driver's license issue in last week's debate?

Here's just a handful of my personal favorites:

* Forced School Busing
The idea: to raise the education level of blacks by forcibly integrating urban schools with white kids who lived in "segregated" neighborhoods. The result? Disaster. School enrollment in Boston plummeted, the percentage of whites dropping from 65% to 28%. In one urban area after another across the country where forced busing was instituted amidst angry turmoil "white flight" to the suburbs took off, igniting a surge of what liberals now moan as "suburban sprawl." And education? A study by the National Institute of Education could not find a single study that showed black kids were better off as a result. Prominent liberal advocates, of course, sent their own kids to private schools. Slowly, painfully, most busing programs wound to a stop. But the damage -- to the kids, to the neighborhoods and to the cities -- was done

* Welfare
The idea: The Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) was established in 1935 with the objective to provide welfare relief for needy families and their children. The result? It wound up promoting baby bearing-for-benefits scams, smothered incentive to work, destroyed marriages and created what came to be called a "culture of dependency" that helped devastate the family structure, particularly in the black community. The election of a Republican Congress in 1994 forced the issue to the front, with Speaker Newt Gingrich making it point three of the ten-item Contract with America. Conservatives insisted on a five year lifetime limit to be on the welfare rolls, and a system that led from welfare to work. Only after vetoing the resulting bill twice, as his presidential re-election campaign loomed, did President Clinton sign the conservative reforms. The consequences were dramatic. Welfare rolls plummeted by 57%, costs fell significantly, the work requirement was a success and child poverty rates for African-American families dropped sharply. But again, the damage done before reform was considerable.

* Luxury Tax
The idea: Pushed by liberals in a 1990 tax bill, the idea was to tax big-ticket luxury items and increase government revenue. The result? Buyers of luxuries such as yachts, jewelry, furs and cars stopped buying them in the United States. Among others, American carpenters, electricians, fiberglass and metal workers lost their jobs. Boat building businesses went bankrupt. And the revenue? A projected gain of five million in taxes resulted in an actual loss of $24 million. The luxury tax was finally repealed, but not soon enough to undue the damage to hundreds of thousands who lost their jobs or businesses.

A History of Liberal Disasters

Part 2...

* Alternative Minimum Tax
The idea: Enacted in 1969, the AMT was to disallow deductions and exemptions in computing tax liability. Why? There were 155 -- 155! -- "rich" households who were deemed by liberals to have too many tax breaks, thus meaning they paid little or no income tax. The AMT would supposedly cure this. The result? The Congressional Budget Office now says that 34% of taxpayers earning between $50,000 and $100,000 will have to pay the tax -- which is another way of saying that liberals believe if you earn $50,000 you are rich. That 155 taxpayers has now expanded to 11% of all taxpayers. The CBO also says that if this is not changed by 2010, nearly every married taxpayer earning between $100,000 and $500,000 will be forced to pay the AMT. Predictably, after all the unintended consequences have kicked in once again, liberals in Congress are now frantically calling for repeal to avoid the wrath of their constituents.

* Bringing Peace to Vietnam and Cambodia
The idea: Withdrawing from Southeast Asia completely in 1975 would bring "peace" to the people of Vietnam and Cambodia. The result? A tsunami of murder, concentration camps and desperate "boat people" engulfed the area, not only not bringing peace to the region but resulting in what is now recorded as "the killing fields." The subject usually brings forth a deafening if not embarrassed silence from liberals when they are not busy, in face of massive evidence to the contrary, in denying the result of their idea altogether.

* Free Love
The idea: If it feels good, went this old idea that was dusted off at the end of the 1960's do it. Promiscuity? No problem. Result? The AIDS epidemic, a stunning rise in sexually transmitted diseases. Oops.

* Drugs
The idea: Turn on and drop out. Glamorized by the media, hey man, this was supposed to be great stuff! Let's party! The result: when the party was over for all those cool white kids from the sixties America woke up to a generation of drug addicts who had either died of overdoses or gotten hooked for a lifetime on any number of drugs. It drove up crime rates and the cost of health care, ruining families and wreaking havoc in the black community. Way to go.

TOO SUM UP: Whether it was education policy, welfare policy, economic policy, foreign policy or social policy, time after time after time what became the guiding lights of modern American liberalism proved to be utter disasters. Obvious consequences were ignored and unintended consequences were rampant. All too frequently people who were supposed to be helped -- African-Americans, the poor, the Vietnamese and Cambodians, women, the young -- were severely harmed. Most disturbingly, the proponents of these policies seemed to simply shrug their shoulders at the results and move straight on the next disaster.

This time? The idea is to provide a driver's license to illegal aliens. In other words, an official government photo ID that can be used to facilitate everything from voting to travel to obtaining government benefits for people who aren't American citizens. Smart, no?

Liberalism today as a philosophy is burning up faster than Southern California. Bereft of common sense, wreaking havoc on whole sections of the American and global population, it is still being championed by followers utterly oblivious to the consequences already long on the record.

"I have a million ideas," Senator Clinton said recently, thoughtfully adding that "the country can't afford them all."

No kidding.

Bono Says Islamic Aggression Threat, Media Silent

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, Bono said of the Islamic fundamentalists,

I want to be very, very clear, however: I understand and agree with the analysis of the problem. There is an imminent threat. It manifested itself on 9/11. It's real and grave. It is as serious a threat as Stalinism and National Socialism were. Let's not pretend it isn't.

Interesting, National Socialism is stated as a threat too. (Yes, I know he is talking about Nazis but I bet most socialists wouldn't.)

Conversely, I find it interesting that he named a specific instance of Transnational Socialism (Stalinism) vs. generic National Socialism.

Is he suggesting that any instance of National Socialism is a threat - any of the socialist European Nation-States which chooses to exercise their individual sovereignty over submitting to EU and UN dictate is a threat?

Is he suggesting that generic Transnational Socialism is OK - Leninism, Kruschevism, Maoism, Castroism, are all acceptable - just Stalinism is a threat.

While Bono certainly got his, I have have serious doubts that he is a Capitalist - whether National Capitalist or Transnational Capitalist - and the intent was that all Socialism is a threat.

/course I didn't read the article so I am probably taking this all out of context

Licenses for Illegal Immigrants?

Last week the state of New York announced a plan that would provide a type of license to illegal immigrants. A Minnesota state senator also stated that he was in favor of providing worker ID cards to illegal immigrants. Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has said that he opposes giving IDs to illegal immigrants, but there is no federal law that prevents it. New York Governor Eliot Spitzer says that the new IDs will bring undocumented immigrants into society and help lower auto insurance rates. What do you think?

Antioxidants inositol and inositol hexaphosphate could provide all-purpose radiation protection

Two common dietary molecules found in legumes and bran could protect DNA from the harmful effects of radiation, researchers from the University of Maryland report.

Inositol and inositol hexaphosphate (IP6) protected both human skin cells and a skin cancer-prone mouse from exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) radiation, the damaging radiation found in sunlight, the team reported today at the American Association for Cancer Research Centennial Conference on Translational Cancer Medicine.

According to the researchers, inositol and IP6 could decrease the severity of side effects from radiation therapy, saving healthy cells while simultaneously increasing the potency of the treatment against cancer cells. Both molecules are potent antioxidants, the Maryland researchers say, capable of preventing reactive molecules from injuring DNA and turning cells cancerous.

"Both of these potent antioxidants have been shown to have broad-spectrum anti-tumor capabilities, and now our studies confirm the degree to which these molecules protect against the DNA-damaging effects of ionizing radiation," said Abulkalam M. Shamsuddin, M.D., professor of pathology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. "Radiation damage is radiation damage, regardless of the source, so there could also be a protective role for IP6 in any form of radiation exposure, whether it is from a therapeutic dose or from solar, cosmic or nuclear sources."

While both inositol and IP6 are related to B vitamins, they are not considered essential dietary nutrients. In the 1980s, however, researchers discovered that these molecules, abundant within the hulls of seeds and grains, had definitive protective effects against colorectal cancer.

Science!

Russian pensioner dies after rigging his house with bombs

NIZHNY NOVGOROD, November 6 (RIA Novosti) - A 69-year-old Russian man who rigged his house with bomb traps died on Tuesday after setting off one of the devices, local police said.

The pensioner's body was found in his home in the village of Piskuny in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, with multiple injuries.

"On arriving at the venue, investigators could not start searching the scene because the wooden house owned by the deceased was stuffed with improvised explosive devices," a police officer said.

He said bomb disposal experts found trip wire attached to every window in the house, and even the man's coat hanger was mined.

Investigators suggested the blast victim may have been drunk, and stepped into one of his tripwires, triggering the explosion. Neighbors said the old man suffered from a mental disorder and had an alcohol problem.

On searching a flat also owned by the deceased, police found another two explosive devices.

In Britain, the Metropolitan Police extradition unit arrested a 34-year-old man in Croydon, and a 53-year-old man in Manchester.

This has been bugging me for years. Why is it important that we know the ages of those arrested? Every stinking newspaper and magazine reporter believes tha the inclusion of the age of the perp adds to the value of the story. The only time it would be good to know is when a "92-year-old gigolo was found dead in his apartment, shot by his 98-year-old girlfriend."

Actually, that information is useful.
It gives you an information on what types of crimes are being committed by people in various age groups.
