Hope you haven't eaten.

On October 19, in a letter to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, President Bush declared, "I hereby certify that Saudi Arabia is cooperating with efforts to combat international terrorism and that the proposed assistance will help facilitate that effort."

But this, and most other recent criticisms of Saudi Arabia, omits what may be the most troubling aspect of the country's behavior and the most threatening to long-term U.S. interests: The appalling state of human rights and the lack of meaningful political reform in the kingdom

Here in Canada, we have the second largest oil reserves in the world, behind the Saudi's. It's more expensive to extract and refine(oil sands), but it is available via pipeline, which 90% goes to the U.S. We just don't have the capacity yet to eliminate the use of mideast oil. Huge investment happening in Alberta right now, but it will take years.

Al-Dura and the "Public Secret" of Middle East Journalism

The evidence emerging from the ongoing Al Dura trial in France indicates that Western journalists are fully aware that some of the footage they use in their reports on the Mideast conflict is staged, charges Richard Landes. When confronted with the pervasive evidence of staging in the case of Al Dura, the reaction of France 2, which ran the story, has been essentially that “everybody does it.”

It won't work.

People forget basic economics.

If we started intentionally penalizing ourselves by only using more expensive oil, the Saudis could and would drop their prices, and the benefits would flow to our enemies: mainly China. Saddled with more expensive energy, our economy would gradually derteriorate relative to others, and with it our ability to afford advanced defense systems, etc.

The Chinese would like NOTHING more than for the US to stop using Saudi oil.

1) We turn all electric production to coal and nuclear.
2) Open ANWR, CA coast, FL coast and the gulf.
3) Manhattan Project the Oil Sand and Shale.

Expensive yes, but it's national security. We'd still have trillions of barrels when the Sauds are back to kickin' sand.

34 tank22  11/10/07 12:40:47 pm reply quote

Just sayin that in time we could sever our ties with the mideast for energy dependancy.

First I am biased in favor of Macs. (full disclosure)

On the face of it Apple Laptops are more expensive. However when you spec a PC to what you have on Apple they are pretty close.

Apple bundles a lot more software. Just yesterday a coworker couldn't get video off his camera of a presentation at a conference, I plugged in a camera I'd never seen and gave him a DVD in less than half an hour. I'm still trying to get a Vista machine at work to recognize my camera.

Apple pays attention to hardware, that what they build, software is a side business. The buy higher end stuff to put in their machines. I haven't had a hardware issues in years.

My laptop I can routinely go months with out a restart. The UNIX core is fundamentally more stable than Windows.

I would say pretty low, all the menus are very similar. You don't have the issues "under the hood" with Apple. I use Mac, Win 2K/XP/Vista, dos and linux extensively. The biggest issue I have is remembering which way slashes go in dos and linux.
