Here’s an open thread for whatever needs discussin’.

More tweaks to the new “avatar” feature:

* GIFs with transparent backgrounds will still be converted to JPG format, but now the background canvas for the image is preset to white instead of PHP’s default black, which produces a better image most of the time.

* The error handling has been improved, and several different types of common errors will now produce informative messages instead of simply returning you to your account management page with no icon loaded.

* The first time you upload an avatar/icon, the checkbox labeled “Show my personal icon in comments” is enabled and checked, to save you a step. If you uncheck that box, any new comments you post will use the default green football instead of the last icon you uploaded.

UPDATE at 12/8/07 6:18:41 pm:

Oh yes, another point about LGF avatars: depending on which browser you use, if you upload a new image file you may need to use the “Refresh” function to see your new avatar, because some browsers insist on caching images even when they’ve been modified.

UPDATE at 12/8/07 6:30:42 pm:

And registration is now open for a limited time.

UPDATE at 12/8/07 6:58:23 pm:

Closed at 6:56 pm, with 23 hatchlings.

 Frank says:

I think (Abbey Road is) the best engineered, best mastered rock and roll album ever produced...except that I take exception to stereo placement. -- From "Frank Zappa talks about Faves, Raves, and composers in their g raves" - some English publication, I think. (2 & 3 from the book, "The Lives and Times of Frank Zappa and the Mothers", some Brit thing again (got it at Blue Meanie Imports in San Diego fifteen years ago.)
