Bilal Hussein on Trial

Sun, Dec 9, 2007 at 9:38:00 am PST

Today the US military will submit evidence in the Iraqi trial of AP photographer Bilal Hussein, and to mark the occasion Michelle Malkin has a look back at the disgraceful history of the Associated Press’ war coverage.

String it along. AP never met a stringer they didn't like.

Michelle usually hits the nail right on the head.

AP stringers are beyond reproach.

4 Pro-Bush Canuck  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 9:42:50am

People like Michele Malkin and Charles Johnson act as a critical check on an out-of-control, hijacked mass media.

LGF may "only" have a few tens of thousands of readers, but the influence is felt much more widely. People who have never heard of LGF are aware of Rathergate, for example.

Just a bit of tweaking.

I wonder when Dan Rather will get charge with slander?

7 BigPapa  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 9:47:33am

The AP will fight this because their credibility (or what's left of it) is on the line. The ends will justify the means, no doubt.

8 sbvft contributor  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 9:47:33am

I saw this on a pro-bilal site a couple weeks ago:

"According to the account Hussein gave in interviews with lawyer Paul Gardephe, he was out buying bread when an explosion went off near his apartment. In the chaos, Hussein invited two men from the street into his apartment for shelter, offering them breakfast. These men would later be identified by the U.S. military as insurgents."

Yeah. OK. Right. "Hey guys. I know a bomb just went off, you're 2 complete stragers, and there's chaos all around, but ya know what? You both look a little hungry. How bout some Cheerios?"

I hope this trial goes totally OJ!

Thanks for the tweak. I'm repeating from the previous thread, but why did you stop using your French flag avatar?

Later, Lizards.re: #10 debutaunt

I'm not doing avatars for now. Once I figure out what to do, I might try one.

re: #4 Pro-Bush Canuck

I remember a couple years ago seeing Terry Moran from ABC news say that he "checks LGF every morning". I was shocked - shocked - to hear such a prominent member of the drive-bys admit to it. Methinks there's many more who do but would of course never admit it.

Yes, who's been stringing who? Regarding AP and objectivity, never the twine shall meet.

The AP hangs themselves enough, you guys don't have to help them at all!

Hopefully this time the AP's eyes are opened about their situational ethics...and morals.

Did - and responded. I've seen that excellent Steyn piece before.

It is seriously messed-up the way the press goes out of their way to cover up the identities of Muslim murderers.

The Little Bomber Boy

Iran, they asked me
What bomb bomb bomb bomb?

Ah-ma-din-ejad said
No bomb bomb bomb bomb.

The NIE has said
No bomb bomb bomb bomb.

That crafty Kofi said
No bomb bomb bomb bomb
bomb bomb bomb bomb
bomb bomb bomb bomb.

So, we stayed our hands
No bomb bomb bomb bomb.

Respected sovereign lands.
No bomb bomb bomb bomb.

Then, Iran said
Let’s bomb bomb bomb bomb

The Ayatollah said
Let’s bomb bomb bomb bomb...bomb bomb bomb bomb...bomb bomb bomb bomb.

And now the world is dead
From bombs bombs bombs bombs.

And Allah smiled at me
Bomb Bomb Bomb Bomb

Boy, were we dumb?

30 Karagush  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 10:39:01am

This whole Bilial Hussain thing disturbs me for the Credibility the MSM granted him and the way the just swallowed everything he fed them whole. They really LOVED what he was selling. And that bugs. The whole scene where the Italian guy gets snuffed, and nobody in the MSM hollered about inhumanity or that lines were crossed made me sick. Whether you believe the Italian guy was already dead or not (My experience of dead people leads me to believe he wasn't) It was disgusting. And there should have been Outcry against him from the Big media outlets. Maybe even taking his journalism prizes away for crossing moral lines and enabling the production and dissemination of terrorist propaganda.

OK - US to provide evidence to Iraqi Courts to be used against poor Bilal.
Methinks the Iraqis will NOT be amused.

-S-

36 Sifty  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 11:39:59am

I keep hoping that my phone will ring and the Iraqi Courts will finally need to borrow this nice rope I have here. I bought it before old Mr. Spider Hole got his, but I'm sure it could still do the trick on our buddy Bilal.

The smallest step I can think of is the baby-step from AP journalouse to terrorist. I don't think I have calipers that measure that small.

37 Dar ul Harb  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 12:08:17pm

This incident is to the Pulitzer committee what the oil-for-food scandal is to the United Nations. To paraphrase Churchill, they'll just pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and continue on as if nothing has happened...

38 Karagush  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 12:08:18pm

I think Its probably not realistic to expect thy would kill him. But it would be satisfying for him to lose his reputation, and then be stripped of all his journalistic commendations, and repudiated. Worst thing in the world for a journo is to lose their credibility... Lets start with that. Then put him in jail with people whose families were killed by the terrorist he liked to hang with.

It wouldnt have to be for a long time. I am sure they would take care of it.

39 mshaw  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 12:09:50pm

Imagine how somebody who'd managed to capture photos like Hussein's during, say, the latter half of 1944 in, say, France, would have been treated....

40 infopimp  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 1:13:02pm

I love this - AP has enough rope, and they know how to tie a knot... noose is around their own neck. The next step is to kick the chair out from under, which they will do on their own, simply by continuing to stand behind the men who stand behind the terrorists.

AP: *SPIT*

42 Sharmuta  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 4:07:51pm

These charges, and the trial moving forward should put the ap and their brethren on notice. It is not just the American Right who is on to them. Claiming indifference in the name the public's right to know isn't going to reassure their audience in light of this controversy. The mask has slipped, and the true face we've seen will not be forgotten.

43 Ledger1  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 7:55:25pm

Bilal Hussein is at the very least an accessory to murder. He probably even helped in a few murders.

I hope they throw the book at him.

And, let’s hope the AP gets sued for providing the means to kill our troops, contractors, and civilians.

45 CurlyDave  Sun, Dec 9, 2007 10:46:56pm

Look closely at the picture of the two "insurgents" with the Italian hostage who was killed.

Bilal Hussein claims the hostage was dead when the picture was taken, but I see no blood or wounds on him. And, he is in a position which, while uncomfortable for a live man, does not seem possible for a dead one.

Of course my experience here is solely with game animals I have shot, but no blood, no wounds, and the position tells me that man was alive when the picture was taken.
