Stillwell on CAIR

Wed, Dec 19, 2007 at 1:43:42 pm PST

Cinnamon Stillwell has a column in the San Francisco Chronicle on the radical Islamic front group CAIR, their connections to the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas, and their ongoing efforts to shut down and/or demonize all critics of Islam in the United States: Savage vs. CAIR: The battle over free speech.

I’m shocked—shocked!—that the uber-leftist SF Chronicle would even consider printing something so uncharacteristically truthful about this pernicious group of terrorist enablers.

A favored CAIR tactic is to push the specter of anti-Muslim hate crimes, as if to imply that the United States is a hostile environment for Muslims. The overriding narrative holds that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks were the catalyst for a wave of unfounded hostility towards Islam. Never mind the fact that it is not anti-Muslim hate crimes that have been on the rise since Sept. 11 but rather anti-Jewish hate crimes, the United States is still the most religiously and ethnically tolerant nation in the world. This may perhaps explain why, as compared to other parts of the West, Muslims are thriving in America. But one would never know this to listen to CAIR’s dire reports.

Among the supposed anti-Muslim hate crimes sweeping the nation are death threats, a claim that has a habit of popping up whenever criticism is directed toward high-profile Muslim groups or individuals. It seems awfully coincidental that, following the announcement of Savage’s lawsuit, the FBI began investigating a death threat claim brought by Basim Elkarra, director of CAIR’s Sacramento chapter, which he insists resulted from the public feud. Strangely enough, Elkarra also reported a death threat after Sen. Boxer, as mentioned above, rescinded his award. While the basis for Elkarra’s current claim remains to be seen, such threats are in fact a hazard of public life and aren’t necessarily the doing of one’s political opponents. The truth of the matter is that those who dare to critique Islam — Muslims and ex-Muslims among them — are themselves most at risk of death threats in the current political and religious climate.

This is one of CAIR’s most-used tactics—reporting “death threats” to the FBI and whining about them publicly.

Thanks Zombie! Whoever you may be. It is good to have an operative in hostile territory. It sounds like some of our liberals are starting to buy a clue about CAIR and the threat of Islam.

I am still shocked that Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin are (at least apparently) openly critical of CAIR.

I wouldn't give either of those clowns a doughnut, for fear that he would harm someone with it.

The pigs may not be flying, but I am thinking of reinforcing the roof.

Cinnamon Stillwell is a regular columnist for SFGate, the Chron's website, where this article appeared. It wasn't from the dead trees version. The Chronicle is pretty much the National Enquirer with intellectual pretensions, except the Enquirer does more of its own reporting.

Gays for Palestine are perplexed. They immediately issued a fatwa against the Chronicle for telling the truth. A crime in Islam.

10 Pawn of the Oppressor  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 1:52:34pm

The Chronicle's editors must have been reeeeeally stoned when Cinnamon (!) submitted this for publication. Maybe that's the ticket to getting sane voices past the leftist thought police - just wait for the 4:20 break?

"There's a conservative article in our paper, man? Really? Heh, conservatives..." *giggle* "Wait, what?"

Osama has given *all* of us a death threat, *and* acted on it. If CAIR were interested in *that* problem, rather than their push to put Islam in everyones faces, dissemble about occurrences, *then* I could take them seriously...since it turns out they're a bunch of agenda driven people using the banner of "civil rights" to push their own agenda...

Someone needs to hack the Chonicle's website so that only people who work there can see it. They'll think everything's swell. Oh what fun!

14 zombie  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 1:55:38pm

Notice how the comments after the Cinnamon article are 80% positive, and are mostly anti-CAIR.

Tangible results of my "Investigate the Media" scandal about the "sneaky comment deletion trick": the Chronicle unbanned any previously banned commenters who requested it, and said they would be very careful about individually deleting comments in the future. As a result, the entire tenor of the converaation has changed -- now the lizardoids have taken over the asylum.

Not just a side-effect -- the main purpose!

The "side-effect" was that the scandal spread to other newspapers and Web sites.

It's still brewing. I've been lax in following it up. I could have gotten the name of the software company that implemented the trick. But I haven't had the time to pursue that lead.

Of course CAIR reports fake death threats in almost every high-profile case they open. They know it goes on the books as a hate crime against muslims even though it wasn't real.

In the Detroit-area, where a festering and metastasizing Muslim minority has managed to co-opt the media, every time a Muslim hiccups, it makes the news. And every time kids at a Muslim school celebrate a holiday, that makes the news, too. Christmas parties at a Catholic or Evangelical school, who cares?

And a lot of these stories are--predictably--meant to impress upon us various areas of disinformation, such as how pro-female Islam is or how peaceful.

Take, today's Detroit Free Press. Resident Islamist "reporter" Niraj Warikoo covers the hajj celebration at a local Muslim school The Muslim American Youth Academy is affiliated with and located on the Dearbornistan campus of the pro-Hezbollah, pan-Iranian Islamic Center of America, North America's largest mosque.

42 Mich-again  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 2:17:11pm

Back a year ago when Saddam swung from the gallows, the Shias in Dearborn whooped it up and celebrated and that really pissed off some of the Sunnis who then went out and busted up some windows in the Shia businesses. Only Shia businesses were hit. It was no secret who did it and why.

And yet CAIR came out and had an action alert about the vandalism at the Muslim businesses and how the US Government had to step in to protect the local Muslims who had been living under siege since 9/11. No mention at all of the fact it was other Muslims who did it.

CAIR is a dishonest bunch of anti-American leeches set out to destroy this Nation that welcomed them in. The hell with all of them evil bastards.

It's a comprehensive critique of CA|R and also has quotes from Dems and other politicians that refute any allegations that it's all a neo-con conspiracy.

If this keeps up I may have a prayer that things are turning around in SF. There is only so much lunacy that even the most left populace can stand. When you throw in the unrelenting thirst for money to be devoured by the gaping maw of the City government, with its thousands of "employees" that draw 6 figure salaries, (the ones that no one can figure out what the hell they do), then you get bright ideas like this Soda Tax that the city wants to levy. Thanks. I personally have never met a woman named Cinnamon. Is it her pen name? I think I remember thinking of changing my last name to that because the sounds were similar.

There was a humorous writer in the Chronicle, a male, and not Herb Caen. Boy my memory popped up with the name Art Hoppe. I wish I had saved his column. When people were angry that Bush Senior gave up on Iraq and wouldn't cross the border, he wrote a satire on what would happen if the US went into Baghdad. He really called it even though he thought he was just being humorous. Maybe presidents should include a humorist in the cabinet since humor requires standing back from a situation.

The truth of the matter is that those who dare to critique Islam — Muslims and ex-Muslims among them — are themselves most at risk of death threats in the current political and religious climate.

It is not just the current political climate...iSLam has been killing those who dare oppose them, since day one of Madhammad's making it up.

Our country needs a constitutional amendment stating that Islam is a subversive political movement cloaked in religion, requiring all Islamic activities in the US, like CAIR's, whether written or spoken, be closely scrutinized and regulated by a special Federal security agency. Imams and anyone preaching Islam should be required to be registered and approved to be permitted to preach like in Saudi Arabia. Freedom, yes; national suicide, no. Islam is at war with us and a group trying to destroy our constitution should not be protected by it.

What is needed is a public realization that Islam is not just another faith, that it is a socio-political ideology far more dangerous than Communism ever was. This kind of realization cannot be imposed from the top. It has to be grass-roots movement.

Spread the word. Keep the faith. God bless America.

Her name was and still is Barbara Bain.

86 USBeast  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 4:14:17pm

I strenuously object to USBeast monopolizing this thread.

87 USBeast  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 4:15:02pm

I am in full agreement.

I think I came up with a brilliant idea. Applause please. Kings used to always have a jester around them. I think this is necessary so that kings get feedback so they knew when they are going over the deep end. Why is it that our constitutional founders overlook the necessity for a humorist? We have a national poet. Why not a national humorist in the cabinet?

89 USBeast  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 4:17:44pm

I'm afraid I have to disagree. I always enjoy reading USBeast's offerings.

re: #88 GreenSoccer

We used to have a national humorist. His name was Will Rogers. He is still relevant today. Hunt him up and enjoy.

re: #90 USBeast

If you could have read Art Hoppe's satiric article on why the US would not want to go into Iraq and this was years before George W became president, you would realize that a voice was missing at the cabinet meeting when invasion was decided upon.

How could this thread go for so long without this?

93 descolada9  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 5:37:08pm

This came out of the SF Chronicle? Well, now I've seen everything...

94 GreenSoccer  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 5:39:12pm

re: #92 stevieray

Thanks. The name had brought nothing to mind. So now we have to ask the person from San Francisco.... is Cinnamon a redhead?

re: #93 descolada9

Isn't this a flying pig moment?

Which reminds me, does Charles have a picture of when hell freezes over with chilled demons?

re: #88 GreenSoccer
I think the role of court jester has been admirably filled by the Democratic House leadership.

98 So?  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 8:32:47pm

Instead of harping on the SF Chronicle... credit should go where credit is due and that is to the man MICHAEL SAVAGE. He's the only one with the cahones to take on CAIR and is doing it on his own coin. Of course, he's accepting donations on his website as this will be a long drawn out expensive court battle. CAIR has Saudi petro dollars so they can drag any case out for eternity.

You may not agree with all Savage says or stands for, but he's right on the money about CAIR.

99 GreenSoccer  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 8:39:40pm

re: #98 So?

Where is Savage? Did he go on vacation?

100 GreenSoccer  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 8:41:52pm

re: #97 grumpy old codger

I was referring toa helpful court jester who thru intelligence and sardonic wit and dramatization and parody can give a king an alternate perspective.

What do you think about Jon Stewart being court jester? It's too bad he plays to the Left.

The interesting thing isn't so much that this article was in the SF Chronicle, since Stillwell is a regular contributer to this paper, and often writes articles you wouldn't expect to see here. What surprised me was that when I was reading the comments, expecting the usual intolerant left coast socialist trash, I was shocked to find the mindless leftest comments few and far between, and the comments were overwhelmingly supportive of Cinnamon and even of Savage. Even admitted leftists said they supported Savage here. Maybe there is still hope.

102 American Jewess In Jerusalem  Wed, Dec 19, 2007 11:40:00pm

Cinnamon Stillwell is a Jewish woman who was mugged by reality on 9/11, like many of us Dems. I have read her column many times and her articles are always very good. Frankly, I'm surprised that this libtard publication still allows her to write for them. Go, Cinnamon!

I'm a frequent commenter at SFGate.com, under another name. I've found it to be a mixed bag. Depending on the story, comments will be mostly conservative or mostly liberal. I've seen the paper occasionally pander to conservatives, for instance Nevius' (forgot his first name) series on crime and homelessness, and the front-page positioning of a couple of otherwise routine stories about crime victims shooting their attackers, etc. It's thrilling to be able to comment in an otherwise liberal publication, see so many similar comments, and see it influence editorial policy. Even though the Chronicle's editors push the left-liberal party line, they are business people, and conservative commenters like me help them stay in business by providing the diversity of thought that exists in the actual community. S.F. is a very expensive town, and the people who are making money there aren't all socialists.

104 greensoccer  Thu, Dec 20, 2007 3:01:25am

I looked at Google Images and Cinnamon does not appear to be a redhead.

105 Blueprinter  Thu, Dec 20, 2007 5:34:52am

Maybe the penny is starting to drop amongst the LLL in SF that the RoP is not necessarily our bestest ever friend, just because they hate George Bush too.
Even the moonbats have the odd moment of clarity, it would seem.

106 CLLRusso  Fri, Dec 21, 2007 3:03:38pm

Gosh we haven't had a hate crime reported against any Islamic group in Tampa for months and months! No articles in the news about all their philanthropic endeavors or peaceful efforts to convert all us infidels either! Just what the hell IS CAIR doing anyway?
