RetweetMohammed Images at Fox News, Gay Mohammed at Reuters

Thu, Feb 7, 2008 at 8:56:15 am PST

Quite a few LGF readers emailed about this one, as Fox News publishes images of Mohammed: Muslims Protest Wikipedia Images of Muhammad.

Will seething and rage ensue? Stay tuned.

But even more astonishing, Reuters—Reuters!—has gone even further and allowed an image of a gay Mohammed to be posted on their web site.

I predict this image is not long for that page. Reuters has already posted a disclaimer:

The following blog post is from an independent writer and is not connected with Reuters News. The opinions and views expressed herein are those of the author and are not endorsed by Reuters.com.

Looks like one of their endorsed, “safe” bloggers has crossed the blasphemy line; this wasn’t a Reuters decision, and they’ll almost certainly remove it soon.

I don't think the imams have had the six month's preparatory tour like they did for the cartoon riots. This week's Firday Rioting will likely be sporadic, and not distinguishable from the usual Friday Rioting.

That being said, I Question The Timing. Why does this stuff always break on a Wednesday and Thursday? Things that make you go "hmmm"...

People keep defending the seething by pointing out it is against their rules.

And I keep pointing out that we don't have to obey Islam as we are not Muslim. Deal with it.

'Wim van Krimpen, director of the museum, initially praised Hera’s collection of photographs as “exceptional”. Last month, however, he announced that the masked men could not be included in the forthcoming exhibition because “certain people in our society might perceive it as offensive”.

. Under Islam there are no homosexuals, only men who dress up as Mohammed.

26 zombie  Thu, Feb 7, 2008 9:08:10am

Hey everybody.

That's not Mohammed.

I'm constantly coming up against this issue.

The face Photoshopped on to the bodies is that of Ali, Mo's cousin, founder of Shi'ism.

I feel partly responsible for this, so I'm wracked with guilt.

When I first started the Mo Archive, I believed a Norwegian newspaper that put a pic of Ali up, claiming it was of Mo. During the first couple blogbursts about the Archive, everyone copied that picture.

I later found out the newspaper was wrong. It's Ali. So I took it down.

But the picture keeps spreading -- the horse was out of the barn.

Maybe the MSM types aren't active enemies, but just spoiled teenagers. Spoiled teenagers do not like limitations imposed on them. Not publishing the Motoons chafes. If they ever realize that the Muhammedans intend to impose lots more limitations on them, maybe they'll decide that that's more rebellion-worthy than their grandparents' morals and reslant their reporting.

Why am I worried about the opinions of 50-year-old adolescents? because they deliver the news to a largely uncritical audience. Even if you're smart -- garbage in, garbage out.

Or course, reading over that, I detect much more optimism than seems reasonable. Either I'm grasping at straws, or I simply need more coffee.

And you can hear the champagne corks popping all over the MSM as they celebrate their success at installing the candidate most easily defeated by either Obama or the Hildabeast as the Republican nominee.

Last week he was the Brave War Hero

Any bets on when he starts becoming the Unindicted Co-conspirator?

If no paintings were made of mo back in the day...?

Because the fascist barbarian hatred-of-life-and-beauty tide in Islam has ebbed and flowed over the years. We happen to be in a "flow" period thanks to al-Wahhab, The Third Reich, and the Saudis, in that order.

Fascinating post at The Belmont Club:

Coughlin repeatedly hammers on one theme: that Islam includes a body of law... that binds all faithful Muslims to a program of conquest and to resist all attempts to roll it back. He makes a scholarly effort to establish this obligation is rooted in mainstream, not variant Islam. He argues that current US doctrine refuses to incorporate this fact, preferring to assume that Islam itself is neutral in the War on Terror when this assumption cannot be supported by any reasonable reading of the texts.

...the question of how to think about the issues Coughlin raises creates thorny issues. While it is certainly conceivable that Islam itself is hostile to Western civilization any official acknowledgment of the possibility would be politically explosive. So Coughlin's questions are examined in a parallel process. The concept, familiar to programmers, happens when multiple threads with different code executes on the same data. In this case official strategy is "constrained" -- as Coughlin puts it -- to process Islamic doctrines with a 'politically correct' algorithm. Meanwhile the same texts are examined around the water coolers, the Internet and behind unofficial closed door sessions in Western society in an unconstrained way. Two modes of thinking on the subject of Islam execute simultaneously with potentially undesirable results.

...Whether or not Coughlin is substantively correct, his dismissal would have driven one thread underground, possibly producing the Western equivalent of taqiyya, an Islamic doctrine in which Muslims are allowed to lie in the interests of expediency. A Western taqiyya might produce a situation where Western politicians said one thing while their publics tacitly thought another. That would produce a climate of total deceit which would doom rather than facilitate any reconciliation...

A world which forbids the clash of ideas makes a clash of men much more likely.

(Seriously) how, in the first place, did they get by with the painting? Then again, a vague memory says the prohibition against images hasn't always been there.

Enlighten me. please.

Start here and click through the pages.

There is no actual prohibition of depicting Mo in Islam. That "law" was a later invention.

There is a Hadith in which Mohammed tells his followers not to depict him, lest the people turn to idol worshiping. Not all hadiths are accepted equally valid by the various Muslim sects, and I don't know if the Shia accept that one, but the Shia do allow pictures of Ali, Hussien & Mo.

re: #26 zombie

Zombie, according to the photog, it's Mo' and Ali!

From the Reuter's link:

Speaking on the telephone from an unspecified location in the Netherlands last week, the artist, an Iranian exile who goes by the pseudonym of Sooreh Hera , said she had been threatened with “execution”. She accused the director of the municipal museum in The Hague of cowardice for caving in to Muslim extremists.

Her story is a reminder of the tensions that have put the Netherlands and other European countries on the front line, sending dozens of people threatened by extremists into hiding since 2004, when a Dutch film-maker was murdered on the street and his collaborator driven into exile.

This leaves Hera, 34, in no doubt that she is in real danger. “They said to me, ‘We’re going to burn you naked or put a bullet in your mouth’,” she said, referring to menacing e-mails.

“They say, ‘Now you are locked in your home and you cannot go out any more’.”

She said that by photographing gay Iranian exiles in masks of Muhammad, the founder of Islam, and Ali, his son-in-law, she had wanted to expose a “hypocritical” attitude towards homosexuality in countries such as Iran, where men can be hanged for homosexual conduct.

re: #26 zombie

Zombie, your integrity is admirable. But, really, is there such a thing as an authentic image of either Mohammed or Ali in existence? Did any contemporary artist ever draw a good likeness of either? Or has the "image" of Mohammed become stereotyped, like those of Jesus and Santa Claus?

And to digress a little, what, precisely, is specifically "gay" about that picture anyway? I see one shirtless man seated on a bed, and another shirtless man standing in the foreground. There is nothing explicitly sexual about it. Heck, that is S.O.P. for males on work crews who are commonly bunked two to a room. I've been in the exact situation of that photo hundreds of times (although my co-workers never looked that creepy). Straight guys simply don't get all a-twitter because another straight guy has his shirt off.

If I had to set the scene for that picture, I'd say the guy on the bed is watching "Survivor: Antarctica" on the television, and the other guy has just come from having un-natural relations with a lamb in the bathroom. I can tell by the sheepish grin on his face.

161 baconeatingkaffir  Fri, Feb 8, 2008 10:29:40am

Has anyone seen the prophet's website? Although I enjoyed the Reuters pic, this one I found also has a historic base.
