The infidel holiday that fills the Islamic world with dread is upon us once again: Kuwait Hardliners Take Aim at Valentine’s Day.
KUWAIT CITY — Valentine’s Day is just three days away, but one Muslim politician is heading up a committee to make sure it goes completely ignored.
Kuwaiti MP Waleed Al-Tabtabae, head of the National Assembly’s Committee Monitoring Negative Alien Practices, will chair his group Wednesday to discuss ways to repress all public displays recognizing the international day of love. “We want to discuss measures that should be taken by these ministries to prevent such alien events from impacting Kuwaiti society and spreading corruption among the Kuwaiti youth,” Al-Tabtabae told reporters Monday. …
Saudi Arabia, which had strongly condemned public Valentine’s Day celebrations, has eased its ban, allowing the sale of cards and candy, but still prohibiting public exhibitions of affection.
The Saudis have “eased the ban?” Well, somebody forgot to tell the mutaween: No red roses for Saudi sweethearts on Valentines Day.
RIYADH (Reuters) - Saudi Arabia’s religious police have banned red roses ahead of Valentine’s Day, forcing couples in the conservative Muslim nation to think of new ways to show their love.
The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice has ordered florists and gift shop owners in the capital Riyadh to remove any items coloured scarlet, which is widely seen as symbolising love, newspapers said.
