New Black Panther Party on Obama Site - Approved by Campaign?

Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 9:49:26 am PDT

Barack Obama’s campaign web site has a section where supporters can register and form groups (like a mini-MySpace), and Fox News reported yesterday on a group started by the New Black Panther Party, which of course embarrassed the Obama campaign into removing it. They issued a statement (typically blaming Fox News for pointing it out) that says they have no control over the groups that are formed:

My.BarackObama.com has been at the core of our bottom-up organizing strategy. The tools available have been put to work by a community of supporters that is bigger and more powerful than anything presidential politics has ever seen.

Evidently, Fox News didn’t think it was a big deal that hundreds of thousands of ordinary Americans are participating in the democratic process creating groups and local events in communities all across the country.

But they did think it was a big deal that one random person on the Internet, without the knowledge of the Obama campaign, posted a profile in the system with the image of the New Black Panther Party on it.

When we were alerted of the existence of this page, we pulled it down. Yet even after we pulled the page, Fox News continues to disingenuously and prominently feature this “story” on their homepage.

OK, fair enough. That’s actually why I didn’t make a big deal of this, because I know from first-hand experience how easy it is for jokers to misuse these kinds of “social networking” systems.

But now BKGodfrey at Yellow Limes has a twist that makes it more interesting.

He registered and started a group at my.barackobama.com, and at the end of the process he received this message: “This group will be published online once it is approved by a site administrator.”

The statement above claims that the New Black Pather Party group was established “without the knowledge of the Obama campaign.” So who is approving those groups, if not the Obama campaign?

It’s possible that this moderation feature was only recently implemented, but if the people running my.barackobama.com know what they’re doing, they would never allow unmoderated groups to be formed on a campaign web site; the potential for abuse is enormous, as John F. Kerry discovered in the last presidential election, when pranksters created hundreds of pages at his site. So I doubt this is a recent addition.

More details at Yellow Limes.

Funny, the New Black Panthers did not seem to feel that had been snubbed or discarded or rejected - just removed for political reasons. And the NBP are not the only subversive group that BO has long-term ties to. . . .

The Original Black Panther party disavowed the New Black Panthers some years ago(I'm sure that is comforting to everyone here). I was at a rally to stop the Genocide in Darfur organized by Jewish groups in the DC area a few years ago(not the one on the Mall- but i was there too). We were on Mass. Avenue near the Sudanese embassy when some thugs from the New Black Panthers came and tried to get rid of us. They said as white people we had nothing to say to their African brothers, they yelled, they threatened. I thought it was profound that they were not protesting the murder of African men, women and children but rather that we were "defaming(I doubt they used this word)" their African brothers at the embassy. We did call the police when they tried to take the electronic megaphone. Isn't the leader of this group, Malik Shabazz, a follower of Farrakhan and a noted Jew and Israel hater(surprise, surprise, surprise)?

That was my first thought when I saw this story on Fox last night as well. Surely Obama isn't stupid enough to just allow any yahoo with a computer to post things on his official campaign Web site. Somebody working for his campaign had to have approved it first. They're not going to be able to explain it away like they are. They're hoping the media will give them yet another pass on this.

Sadly, they're mostly right about that last part.

44 Bearster  Thu, Mar 20, 2008 10:11:34am

Charles: I would go one step further. If people who support a candidate want to form an unmoderated group, there are many places they can do it on the 'net. If it is hosted and promoted by the candidate's official web page, then the candidate is giving it his stamp of approval, his moral sanction.

The candidate does not then get to say "but I didn't know."

Doesn't suprise me in the slightest, but this is going to be a non-issue.

Obama can claim (likely in honesty THIS TIME) that he had nothing to do with the NBBP until they put a page on his website. This is totally different than hanging out with racist crackpots for 20 years and having them mentor you.

If even the site had some level of oversight, that doesn't necessarily come back to Obama personally. Were the comments posted there over-the-top?

Unlike the Wright mess, which really DOES speak to Obama's personal beliefs and actions (vs his image) this NBPP "baggage" is trivial for Obama to drop.

Now, from time to time people get up to no good -- creating fake profiles (like one for Sean Hannity created today), or posting profane or inappropriate content. When they do, the community reports the offending content and if it violates our terms of service it is removed (as the Sean Hannity profile was).

Ah see therein lies the problem, you're community doesn't find that sort of material from the NBP inappropriate and it is not reported.

They get to say whatever they like (unfortunately).

Whether or not you choose to believe what they say is another matter.

In this case, I just don't see this "sticking" to Obama. Unlike with Wright, he has "plausible deniability". He booted the NBPP off his site, and (presumeably) has no other history with them or contact with them.

So what's the story?. . .that Obama's website moderator has bad judgement?Even if Obama himself personally approved the NBPP page(s), you can't prove it.

If you believe that one can be judged by the company you keep (or the supporters you attract) then the story here is that Obama has been found an attractive candidate by elements of society that are not exactly mainstream.

When racists, socialists & communists start rallying around a candidate....it is generally because the candidate appeals to their 'vision' of how things should be....beware of any changes he has in mind.

This neighborhood has at least two or three madrassas within a five-block radius of my house. The proprietor of the ice-cream store around the corner was arrested for jihadi ties; one of the co-conspirators in WTC I (also connected to the killer of Kahane) lived not far away; the corner groceries used to have Holy Land Foundation collection boxes by the cash register; hijabs are common, full burkhas not unknown; a couple of years ago, two guys planning a suicide bombing of a major subway station were arrested 5 blocks from my old apartment, ten from my current one.

I actually think if Obama is the nominee, that the Republicans have a chance to get a record Jewish vote. Over the 40% Reagan got. I think it could end up being close to 50%. Sure there are plenty of wacko Jews out there, but I have spoken to many life long democratic Jews who will NOT vote for Obama.

Unfortunately, I think there are a lot more Jew-haters than Jews.

Most of the Jews live in states that tend to go Democrat. I wonder if losing most of the usually reliably Dem Jewish vote would actually manage to tip any state R that otherwise would have gone D.

What's really sad is that the Jews that wouldn't vote for Obama would still probably all vote for Hillary Clinton in a heartbeat, even though on most policy issues, she's indistinguishable from Obama.

Hillary, Obama and the cult of Alinsky

Most Americans never heard of Saul Alinsky. Yet his shadow darkens our coming election. Democrat frontrunners Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama both worship at the altar of Alinskyism.

[snip]

Alinsky’s crowning achievement was his recruitment of a young high school student named Hillary Rodham. She met Alinsky through a radical church group. Hillary wrote an analysis of Alinsky’s methods for her senior thesis at Wellesley College. They remained friends until Alinsky’s death in 1972.[snip]
Barack Obama is also an Alinskyite. Trained by Alinsky’s Industrial Areas Foundation, Obama spent years teaching workshops on the Alinsky method. In 1985 he began a four-year stint as a community organizer in Chicago, working for an Alinskyite group called the Developing Communities Project. Later, he worked with ACORN and its offshoot Project Vote, both creations of the Alinsky network.

ACORN, an Alinskite network is neck deep in voter fraud, in Washington, in Kansas, in Ohio, and elsewhere.

Question is whether the Hollywood Jews will actively turn against Obama, and/or towards McCain. Anyway, Hilda will probably pull it out, now. Drech.

On another topic, I caught a few minutes of Keith Olberman last night, carrying on at *great* length about whether McCain was crazy or senile or a war-monger, because he said "Iran is training al-Qaeda in Iraq", rather than what he apparently was supposed to say, and was prompted at the microphone by Lieberman, "Iran is training extremists in Iraq." re: #153 coquimbojoe

Great post. Why that doesn't offend most people is shocking to me.

We lost the last governors race in WA due to distributed vote fraud, many small acts of fraud, as opposed to a coordinated conspiracy (think Chicago). A biased election board.

We've had two Presidential with close outcomes. Now the two (D) candidates have close ties with an organization with a proven record of vote fraud.

IMHO the WA election was a proof of concept that distributed vote fraud, and sympathetic elections board showed stealing elections in an essentially unprovable manner is possible. With the ties of which every candidate is nominated, I see the workings of a national effort to subvert the will of the people.

When ACORN came to Minneapolis, it was painted as so sweetly helpful to the downtrodden, in our neighborhood newspaper.

I took the main lady's e-mail address from the paper, and went back and forth with her quite some several times, trying to discern ACORN's roots.....and got the strong sense I was being given the runaround.....

So I finally did the work myself --did an internet search --and instantly came upon its connections, in the sixties, to Communism......

....and quickly canceled the lady's invitation to tea & crumpets at my house....... ):

They've been operating here in Dallas since at least the late '70s, usually on neighborhood issues, like trying to stop light rail lines from being built. Now they've glommed onto the mortgage crisis, and trying to block foreclosures from happening.

I was just in my bedroom and I hear cheering outside the window (I live in NYC so its fairly common) The cheering gets louder and louder so I get up and go over to the window to see whats going on. What do I find....BILL CLINTON surrounded by secret service and a throng of people across the street in front of anthropology. He waved a bit and then ran into one of 3 black SUVs and sped off. Random moment for the day if you ask me.

re: #280 ploome hineni

We treat blacks like children, constantly talking about their temper tantrums right in front of them with airy phrases about black anger. I will not pat blacks on the head and say, "Isn't that cute?" As a post-racial American, I do not believe "the legacy of slavery" gives black people the right to be permanently ill-mannered.

Who's the author, Ploome?

So...

First Obama pitches Granny over the side of the sleigh to the wolves, and now his campaign says to pay no attention to the black panthers behind the curtain...

Definitely not his week.

The MSM seems to be doing their damndest to run interference for him, but those days of the monopoly are gone for good (yay)

Obama is not proud to be an American.

298 Thanos  Thu, Mar 20, 2008 11:34:33am

Beginning to see a pattern of signs in supporters for Obama here that's very akin to the pattern we saw with Luap Nor, lets' list what we got:

Support from radical fringe groups and ex or present radical fringe group leaders

Che Guevara fan / Flag
Weather Underground Friend
Support from UCC churches (ties to WCW and ANSWER)
Endorsement from Farrakhan
The Reverend Wright
Laptops from FARC that Like Obama
Support from Black Panthers

Signs from the Obamanable Snow-man himself:

Won't place hand over heart during pledge
Anti-War
Anti-Trade
Refuses Flag Pin
Wife is only Proud of America when they are voting for Barack
Wants to talk to the tyrants, both Communist and Islamist

Between now and November a lot more of these puzzle pieces are going to be found.

I'm so confused! Lemme see if I got this right:
Obama is gonna try to ride into the presidency of the free world (practically) on a wave of white guilt over racism they never had anything to do with in the first place. The MSM is going to run interference for him and accuse anyone who questions his true beliefs (which we don't know) of being the worst sort of facist/racist pig who should be immediately waterboarded and slow-roasted over a fire. (served with wild hickory nuts)

I can't speak for everyone, but I'd say Joe Sixpack ain't gonna buy it.

How many times has he visited? I can't even find it on the net. Hell, McCain's not even Pres and there he is.

Bush has virtually ignored Israel. When Sharon was PM, Bush turned his head, with a nod and wink, and let him do what he liked. That's not a bad thing, but I wouldn't call it helpful. Of course, he also chided Sharon after an attack on Israel, warning Sharon not to do anything rash. That really pissed me off. Sharon ignored him.

Of course, when Olmert took over, Bush's "support" got decidedly worse.

You know what supporting Israel means? It means getting the Arabs to stop the violence. Well that may not be entirely possible, but it certainly doesn't mean forking over millions to them. It doesn't mean sending Condi there to suck up to Abbas either. It doesn't mean pushing the road map (as he's been constantly doing) when the Arabs can't even abide by the first rule.

I asked yesterday if anyone had heard from USMC1968, realwest had been in email communication with him. USMC1968 posted about his cancer, and realwest said USMC1968 probably wouldn't be back and hadn't heard back from him recently.

Reading between the lines I concluded USMC1968 unable to post due to the health issue.

re: #365 Nevergiveup

I am less than pleased with the last 2 years of the Bush administrations actions. However, before then he pretty much gave Israel a free hand in it's dealing with it's Arab neighbors. He also protected Israel from the UN. He cut off relations with Arafat and the PLO. He is after all President of the United States, not Israel. He is ok in my book.

The U.S. Pres has great power to do extraordinary things. Bush never was an extraordinary man so maybe I shouldn't blame him so. But for all of his talk of support, he did very little and then did worse than little. Underminded the whole game plan. I'll never forgive him for it.

re: #305 ploome hineni

has Bush acted in the best interest of America?

has the support Bush administration given to Israel more than Bush gives to other allies

WTF is your point

American support of a democratic ally is harming American interests?

Please consider switching to decaf.

Where did I say anything about whether or not supporting Israel was against (or for) American interests? Where did THAT come from? I suggest you go back and read the whole thread you are quoting.

My point is that:
a. If support for Israel "should" matter to Jews politically, then they "should" be strong supporters of Bush, arguably the most pro-Israel US President in decades.
b. I don't think its the case that they do support him, though, with most Jews still being politically liberal and reflexively voting Dem. [This board being somewhat of an exception, of course].

If you believe otherwise, feel free to share. I'd love to hear it, and I think so would many others lizards.

As to the separate issue you raise above, personally I think it is in the strong interest of the USA to support Israel, as well, obviously, as other Democratic allies of the USA across the world. As to whether or not Bush has supported Israel MORE (or less) than other allies, I simply don't know enough to form a meaningful opinion on that, but I suspect it isn't true.

If the question is which candidate in the race is the most pro-Israel, that's McCain by a mile.

My take on Obama, Jews, and Democrats is, if you are a Jewish liberal, and are for whatever inexplicable reason constitutionally incapable of voting for a Republican, then at least pull the lever for Hillary.

Oh Pulllleeeaase! Tell me how. Give me examples. If there are any, I've never seen them.

How many times has he visited? I can't even find it on the net. Hell, McCain's not even Pres and there he is.

Hint: Try Googling "Bush visit Israel". This would be your first hit:

re: #390 looking closely

The GW Bush presidency has been mixed with respect to Israel. (Israel's detractors are always saying that "bush does the bidding of israel" or that U.S. foreign policy is dictated by the Israelis, and so on -- I've heard all of this from Canada's MSM). I don't think the relationship between the Bush administration and Israel has been 100 percent pro-Israel nor has it been 100 percent anti-Israel. It's (dare I say) much more "nuanced." So, while acknowledging the Bush administration's support of Israel (not supporting Arafat -- keeping the antisemites at the UN at bay -- and so on), there have also been some less than stellar moments...For example, GW Bush was the first U.S. president ever to call for the existence of a Palestinian state (not even Jimmy Carter called for a Palis state). Ariel Sharon tentatively agree but with 17 (? I believe that's the number) reservations -- which the U.S. administration promptly ignored. Bush had also adamantly promised that his administration would be the first to set up diplomatic offices in Jerusalem (acknowledging that Jerusalem is the capital of Israel) -- this was not done. Then, of course, there has been that sharp turn for the worse (when the Baker -- no friends of Israel people -- wrote up a report with respect to Iraq -- the Iraq Study Group Report -- and the Bush administration accepted it.) Following this there has been the Rice problems...

re: #391 looking closely

One article at the end of his term doesn't cut it for me.

I'm not saying Bush isn't pro-Israel. He is, although the last few years has me debating it. But while we can run around declaring our support for Israel, I saw no real actions from the U.S. during his entire presidency, except the nod and the wink.

And think about this. This whole Obama/Preachergate flap? Who was the MOST important U.S. President as far as Israel is considered?

Richard Nixon.

Who we have since found out was a raging anti-Semite.

Things that make ya go Hmmmmmmm..... Nixon: The Anti-Semite Who Saved Israel

and just a tiny clip from that article:

What is clear, from the preponderance of information provided by those who witnessed or were involved with the unfolding events, is that Nixon – overriding inter-administration objections and bureaucratic inertia – implemented a breathtaking transfer of arms. During a 32-day period beginning October 14, jumbo U.S. military aircraft touched down in Israel 567 times, delivering some 22,300 tons of material. This enabled Israel to reverse its earlier setbacks, surround the Egyptians in the Sinai, and advance deep into Syrian territory.

Bush couldn't hold a candle to Nixon.

Steele has a lot of potential as a future Presidential candidate. I suspect Condi would need to rebuild a lot of bridges with the base after being assimilated by the Borg at Foggy Bottom. I used to be very enthusiastic about her, since her term as SoS, not so much.

Don't forget when Bush warned Sharon to not expand the settlements and encouraged him to dismantle them altogether. These are the people who kept the Arabs at bay.

I've asked this question often. Show me the proof how much Bush supported Israel in real time. There isn't much.

You do realize that the January 2008 trip to Israel was Bush's FIRST trip there as President, yes? No wonder I couldn't find anything! I take it back. Bush is one of the WORST President's as far as Israel is concerned. In 2003, he went to Egypt, Jordan and Qatar. He went to Jordan again in 2006. Never to Israel.

Yes. The Philadelphia corridor being manned by Europeans (against Israel's advice); the giving of high tech military weapons to Israel's enemies (Saudi Arabia, etc); the on-going threat to withhold funds to Israel; the encouragement to have HAMAS run for office; etc., etc., all this has endangered Israel's security...and all thanks to U.S. State dept., Bush administration. (I think the closest ties were shortly after 9/11, and that gradually the two countries have gone in different directions...)

That's for sure.

I agree 100% that Bush has not been nearly so enthusiastically pro-Israel as his detractors claim (though no American President has ever been as pro-Israel as the detracting anti-semites and Israel-bashers usually claim). The support could have been stronger, particularly in the last 2 years. Not everything the Bush administration has done with respect to Israel has helped Israel (or the US for that matter).

Giving the Saudis weapons, by the way, was more about keeping Iran at bay than hurting Israel.

If you want to look at what might be described as "ideal" US-Israeli relations, Bush falls short (as does every US President, probably including Nixon). But can you honestly say Bush II was worse than Clinton? Bush I? etc.

The fact that you have to go back nearly 40 years to find a more pro-Israel US President than Bush says something also.

Between 1979 and 2008 Egypt has received over 1,000 M1 tanks, over 1,700 M-60 tanks, almost 50 AH-64 Apache's, 220 F-16's, 46 F-4 Phantoms, and 6 E-2 Hawkeye's.

The vast majority of those deliveries were made during the Clinton administration.

Yes, indeed, and that was my point. Nixon being an anti-Semite, he still put our best interest forward. Well, for Israel at any rate! I was thinking about Preachergate also when it came to mind, as much as Bush.

re: #407 Render

Reagan is pretty close to George W. Bush on Israel. They both have Israel in their hearts (I don't doubt that about Bush), but mostly because of religious reasons, not always for what's best for the country. Ours or Israel.

This article is not so kind to Reagan, but it comes from a good source: [Link: web.israelinsider.com...]

Reagan's greatest substantive contribution to the U.S.-Israel relationship was the formalization of strategic cooperation, which created a web of ties between the Pentagon and IDF and a progressive strengthening of Israel's military capability. At the same time, however, he also significantly strengthened the Arabs by selling them some of America's most sophisticated weapons. In 1981, Reagan successfully overcame the Israeli lobby's opposition to his proposed sale of AWACS radar planes to Saudi Arabia. This was a watershed event because the lobby never mounted a significant challenge to an arms sale again. The AWACs campaign was also notable for its nastiness. It was cast as Reagan versus Israeli Prime Minister Begin, and the President did not hide his distaste for the Israeli leader.

Also in 1981, Israel bombed the Iraqi reactor at Osirak. Reagan was furious and the U.S. supported the UN Security Council resolution condemning Israel....

I recall that last bit quite well.

Clinton was probably the worst.
