Thursday Afternoon Open

Thu, Mar 20, 2008 at 11:51:55 am PDT

This new “Favorites” feature is going to be very cool. You will like. So while I toil away in the code mine, here’s an open thread.

  • Comments are open and unmoderated, and do not necessarily reflect the views of Little Green Footballs.
  • Obscene, abusive, silly, or annoying remarks may be deleted, but the fact that particular comments remain on the site in no way constitutes an endorsement of their views by Little Green Footballs.
  • Posts that contain phone numbers, street addresses, email addresses or other personal information will also be deleted, as will posts that consist only of a variation on the word, "First!"
  • Comments that advocate violence will be cause for immediate banning with no appeal.
  • Disagreement and debate are welcome, but insults and abuse are not, and may cause your account to be blocked.
  • REMEMBER: posting comments at LGF is a privilege, not a right. Abuse that privilege, and your account will be blocked.

We're not worthy.

Working on the photos from yesterday's Commuganza in San Francisco.

What a bunch of maroons.

Sad turnout, too.

Though I got a couple juicy pics to enflame the faithful!

Some of us don't think sports have anything of value in the first place.

The Farkers are not fans of lgf:

I do love when the link states it goes to Little Green Hitlers - I now know to not click on the link.

But many of the conservative posters here know that Charles Johnson and his mentally defective gang of internet tough guys are quite unhinged, so they disguise the link as "Some Guy". Not today!

Now watch as LGF will make a link to this thread bemoaning the "seething liberalism" of fark.

Actually, a surprising amount. The protesters don't do any of it, but there is a huge class of high-tech workers that don't protest and instead drive the American economy.

Please don't tell me that Inflated Scrotum Man gave a teabagging demonstration.

Infuriatingly, the nude group didn't show up. Well, actually, about three of them showed up at the appointed time, but they never got nude (or at least that I saw). It was just too cold and foggy. They wandered into the crowd, still clothed.

As a result, no scrota.

I know this is a stunner, but Nomar Gariaparra is hurt again.

Dodgers' Garciaparra may miss Opening Day with broken right hand

Must have gotten hurt falling off of Mia Hamm.

Take it from me that a broken hand does not heal in a couple weeks, and besides, you know Nomar will just get hurt again.

Look for White Sox GM Kenny Williams to unload 3rd basemen Joe Crede and has-been short stop Juan Uribe (on revocable waivers at theis moment) on the Dodgers for some young pitching.

In another shocking develpment the competition for the Cubs closer job is on hold after Kerry Wood could not go two days in a row...

I can't believe the Cubs are hoping against hope .. again that they could get a meaningful contibution from Wood. They spent all that money on the rest of their lineup and they want Woods,Howry or Marmol to close?

"Chicago’s Kerry Wood missed a one-inning relief appearance because of lower back spasms, putting the competition for the Cubs’ closer job on hold.

The development was “a little bit of a setback, but nothing, nothing serious,” manager Lou Piniella said.

Wood, a former starter who has suffered shoulder injuries the past few seasons, had the inside track for the job over Bob Howry and Carlos Marmol. He was scheduled to pitch one-inning stints back-to-back for the first time this spring against the Oakland A’s yesterday and the Colorado Rockies today.

Wood, who has also experienced back spasms in past years, underwent treatment and will be reevaluated today. . ."

Republicans to be prosecuted in Ohio for crossing over to affect Democratic primary?

The Cuyahoga County Board of Elections has launched an investigation that could lead to criminal charges against voters who maliciously switched parties for the March 4 presidential primary.

Elections workers will look for evidence that voters lied when they signed affidavits pledging allegiance to their new party...

After the election, some local Republicans admitted they changed parties only to influence which Democrat would face presumed Republican nominee John McCain in November. One voter scribbled the following addendum to his pledge as a new Democrat: “For one day only.”

Such an admission amounts to voter fraud, said [board member Sandy] McNair, who pushed for the investigation...

Lying on the signed statement is a fifth-degree felony, punishable by six to 12 months in jail and a $2,500 fine.

So the camel gets killed (off camera) and Bear skins it (eats the fat, uncooked of course) eviscerates and guts it, then crawls inside the rib cage for shelter, covering himself with the skin. If you are going to dl it, look for Man vs. Wild : Bear meets Camel. I guarantee you that if Ladies are in the room, they will soon be gone. It is certified babe repellant.

Sean Astin played a crazy, anti-Muslim Christian cult leader who was brainwashing young children so they could fight Muslims in the coming war.

A young boy, whom the pastor was grooming as the next saviour, stoned his mother to death for sleeping with a Muslim man.

Yeah, that happens all the time.

The Sean Astin character said things like, "They want to take over the world and establish a worldwide Caliphate!"

I guess only Christian maniacs would think such a crazy thing.

The Sean Astin character said things like, "They want to take over the world and establish a worldwide Caliphate!"

I guess only Christian maniacs would think such a crazy thing.

He used the term "Muslim infidels" a few times. I didn't get that one. Memo to L&O writers: we're the infidels.

I can't believe the Cubs are hoping against hope

That is so typical of the Cubs organization. They sell fantasy and their fans keep buying it.

Hey Cubs fans, do you really want a winner?

Then stop buying a bad product. Don't buy tickets, don't watch on TV, don't buy any logo products until they put a winner on the field. And I'm not talking the occasional visit to the playoffs only to get smoked.

I had to spend every commercial break deconstructing the show for my daughter.

I tried to watch ER a couple of times recently and stopped. First, it didn't appeal to me that much and second, their blatant anti-war messages drove me crazy. In the WA voter debacle, the election board checked ambiguous ballots and determined voter intent. The candidates were Christine Gregoire and Dino Rossi, one ballot had a write in for Christine Rossi. The board gave the vote to Gregoire.

Then in the court case the judge essentially ruled that to prove voter fraud, you had to tie a secret ballot to a voter then get the voter on the stand to waive the 5th amendment and admit to fraud.

Not always. The Jewish calendar is a lunar calendar, the secular calendar is a solar calendar. The secular calendar has a corrective day for leap year. The Jewish calendar has a corrective month for leap year.

This year being leap year, Passover will begin in mid-April. So while we're whooping it up for Purim this weekend, which is more or less correspondent to Carnival in observance (liquor, costumes), we'll be doing the austerities of Passover this year a month after Easter.

I know. I have forgotten the intricacies of calculating Easter but it has some relationship to the Jewish lunar calendar. Of course Romans and Orthodox calculate it differently, but still. Usually there is a pretty close correlation between Passover and Easter.

FOX has a poll up at their website indicating that half the American public does NOT believe that Barack Hussein Obama shares the racists views of his close friend and minister Jeremiah Wright.

RANT WARNING

Are people in this country really THAT FUCKING STUPID? Never mind it
it's only half of them, the congregation of that damn America-hating racist church is about 5,999 too many. If half the voters are damn fools enough to give Obama the benefit of the doubt after THIS, then electing this overgrown adolescent and letting him work out his childhood family and race conflicts as President of the United States of (in his eyes) Amerikkka.

Especially with eggs - and free-range organic fed chicken.

I encourage anyone curious about organic food to start with eggs, first. They're usually only about a buck more than the mega-process eggs, and the difference in taste is dramatic.

Throw in some fresh herbs from the garden, maybe a little leftover salmon & guyere from the night before...

My wife bought a 8oz smoked salmon in a box the other night, and though I love smoked salmon, we fed it to the racoons who frequent the outside cat food dish.

The cats in, and out of our home, as well as the wild critters that show up, don't know how really good they have it.

I thought that one of the coons was going to come up the steps and give me a kiss.

I wouldn't have allowed it.

Except that you do need to watch the national brand "organic" eggs very, VERY carefully. It seems to be pretty common in many stores to repack them into new boxes with more remote sell by dates. We bought those for a bit, but the eggs were often old. A box where half of them were rotten was the last straw. Now we buy local organic eggs. And I'm thinking of keeping chickens.

Did anyone watch Law & Order last night?

Sean Astin played a crazy, anti-Muslim Christian cult leader who was brainwashing young children so they could fight Muslims in the coming war.

A young boy, whom the pastor was grooming as the next saviour, stoned his mother to death for sleeping with a Muslim man.

Yeah, that happens all the time.

The Sean Astin character said things like, "They want to take over the world and establish a worldwide Caliphate!"

I guess only Christian maniacs would think such a crazy thing.

He used the term "Muslim infidels" a few times. I didn't get that one. Memo to L&O writers: we're the infidels.

L&O has been a lost cause for years. The days when they would devote an episode to exposing the practice of FGM is years in the past.

I remember that bullshit, jcm. The GOP got screwed. I love it when the libtards cry about the GOP stealing elections. I'll guarantee you 99% of voter fraud is committed by the dummycraps.

The
UK gives us some pretty good TV... Top Gear, Ramsay, and those two

socialist cubbyholes that apparently pass for houses in parts of the UK.

Torchwood is a pretty cool show.

Do you realize how early Easter is this year? As you may know, Easter is always the 1st Sunday after the 1st full moon after the Spring Equinox (which is March 20). This dating of Easter is based on the lunar calendar that Hebrew people used to identify passover, which is why it moves around on our Roman calendar. Found out a couple of things you might be interested in! Based on the above, Easter can actually be one day earlier (March 22) but that is pretty rare.

Here 's the interesting info. This year is the earliest Easter any of us will ever see the rest of our lives! And only the most elderly of our population have ever seen it this early (95 years old or above!). And none of us have ever, or will ever, see it a day earlier! Here's the facts: 1) The next time Easter will be this early (March 23) will be the year 2228 (220 years from now). The last time it was this early was 1913 (so if you're 95 or older, you are the only ones that were around for that!). 2) The next time it will be a day earlier, March 22, will be in the year 2285 (277 years from now). The last time it was on March 22 was 1818. So, no one alive today has or will ever see it any earlier than this year!

True - though my family broils while clambaking LOL. Been doing it a couple hundred years or so according to Gramps. I would not touch a boiled lobster if it was the last on earth. But then I am picky that way. Meat shrinks too much. I also happen to think that is is a bit mushy compared to instantly killed lobster. Of course I know salmon fishermen that swear the same about salmon - you have to kill them instantly they come out of the water.

re: #120 Fat Bastard Vegetarian

Gallagher (the philosopher) said the bravest man in history was the first guy to drink cow's milk. Said, "I'm gonna squeeze that thing there and drink whatever comes out!"

Damn! I'll bet that a wager was involved and that's where the word dairy came from!

Same here, although I did see on the food network a deep fried hotdog, I tried it, almost just as good as blackened on the grill.

Competence is the Great Equalizer - DistantThunder

Here we have Lt.Col. Allen West running for Congress in Florida. You may remember him as the commander who shot off a firearm next to the head of an insurgent thereby getting his to reveal that the group was about to be ambushed. West then reported himself to his superior officers.

Allen West is the black face of America that I want to see everyday and in my dreams: honest, respectful of America, resourceful, competent, admirable.

I'm sick of the whining victims like Obama that will excuse every hated:

feminist hatred,
muslim hatre,d
palestinian hatred,
black hatred,

except white hate....that is inexcusable - according to Barak.

Speaking of people who would make excellent running mates for McCain.

re: #337 nyc redneck

did anyone see that L&O episode a few yrs. ago where the snake faced guy (belzer sp.?) actually said something like ,' yeah, that's what an idiot bush is.' it was such an inappropriate gratuitous statement, i couldn't even believe he said it. i shouted out loud, "what the fck are you talking abt a**hole?" i have never watched it since.

I'd be disgusted, too.

Obama throws his Grandmother under the bus and then (few days later) calls her a "typical white person"

I'm almost offended

I'm a Granny - I am not "almost" offended. I am truly offended. Let's get this one to Charles pronto!

Hell, McCain would make an adequate running mate for West.

I put it in the spinoffs on the last thread. It got quite a few up-clicks, so maybe Charles has taken notice.

Loppy, don't forget that fresh Asparagus I'll have with mine and a fat steak. Maybe a fresh salad with my radishes and snap peas might be good.

His granny is a "Typical white person?" I wish she could have adopted me, and paid my way through private school and college.
Maybe he meant "typical" in the sense that he can dump on them (white people) with impunity and g
