FBI Focuses on 'About Four' Anthrax Suspects

Fri, Mar 28, 2008 at 12:56:28 pm PDT

It’s been an enduring mystery: who sent that weaponized anthrax through the mail shortly after September 11, 2001? New information suggests that the FBI may be closer to solving the case: FBI Focusing on ‘About Four’ Suspects in 2001 Anthrax Attacks.

WASHINGTON —  The FBI has narrowed its focus to “about four” suspects in the 6 1/2-year investigation of the deadly anthrax attacks of 2001, and at least three of those suspects are linked to the Army’s bioweapons research facility at Fort Detrick in Maryland, FOX News has learned.

Among the pool of suspects are three scientists — a former deputy commander, a leading anthrax scientist and a microbiologist — linked to the research facility, known as USAMRIID.

The FBI has collected writing samples from the three scientists in an effort to match them to the writer of anthrax-laced letters that were mailed to two U.S. senators and at least two news outlets in the fall of 2001, a law enforcement source confirmed. ...

In December 2001, an Army commander tried to dispel the possibility of a connection to Fort Detrick by taking the media on a rare tour of the base. The commander said the Army used only liquid anthrax, not powder, for its experiments.

“I would say that it does not come from our stocks, because we do not use that dry material,” Maj. Gen. John Parker said. The letters that were mailed to the media and Sens. Tom Daschle and Patrick Leahy all contained powdered anthrax.

But in an e-mail obtained by FOX News, scientists at Fort Detrick openly discussed how the anthrax powder they were asked to analyze after the attacks was nearly identical to that made by one of their colleagues.

“Then he said he had to look at a lot of samples that the FBI had prepared ... to duplicate the letter material,” the e-mail reads. “Then the bombshell. He said that the best duplication of the material was the stuff made by [name redacted]. He said that it was almost exactly the same ... his knees got shaky and he sputtered, ‘But I told the General we didn’t make spore powder!’”

Hatfill is still waiting for the NYT and others to pay up for ruining his life by essentially accusing him of being behind the attacks. The NYT and others are hiding behind claims of privilege to avoid revealing who named Hatfill as the guy.

Somehow the letter sender had positively charged the letters so that the spores would quickly disperse when the letter was opened. Not your average "Joe" bio-terrorist would think of that.

I had never heard that. But didn't the letters all also have notes to the effect of, "THIS IS ANTHRAX, START TAKING ANTIBIOTICS"? Not something you'd expect AQ or another nihilistic terrorist to do. And when you think of what they COULD have done with this stuff... if they had really wanted to kill a LOT of people...

Slightly OT, but ruefully,

5,000 Kurds were gassed by Saddam's cousin Chemical Ali in beautiful downtown Halabja, and democrat stooges still accepted free trips to Iraq, but found no evidence linking this genocide to their patron Saddam.

Democrats are still looking for the Real Killer (whom they claim is at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue).

He lost his job after the FBI hatchet job. They ruined the man's reputation just like they did for Richard Jewell in Atlanta.
Hell, they even confiscated Richard Jewell's guns and never returned them, or re-imbursed him!

Where does one go to get his reputation back? Too bad really. It shows how scary the gubmint can be if they want to be. I remember also that they ran over his feet with a car as they were staking him out down in DC. They (the FBI) were unapologetic about it as well.

"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

Thank you! I believe it will come to this - even though we already have this lesson in our living memory.

You can allways just put it up as a string of text with a 'click here' link to the Livelink site.
I had to do that 'cause Wordpress doesn't support LiveLeak.

Ok I don't know what that means, LOL

the film is no longer at liveleak, their lame excuse for taking it down is there in it's place
there's a new thread upstairs on it

what I mean is how can you host FITNA itself if you don't have any way to get an embed code for it ?

Stan?
Is that satan's younger brother?

You will see the terms "Stan" and "Alan" used for "Satan" and "Allah", respectively, quite a bit 'round these parts. Came from some long-ago, long forgotten (but I bet you could find them!) typos that have since become part of the culture here.

Now i may be wrong, but if you embed a video from liveleak or wherever, it still is actually sitting on their servers, you are really just putting a link on your site that creates a frame with the video in it. If liveleak pulls the file, then your embed is dead.
you need an actual copy of the avi file to host it yourself.

Still trying to figure out what kind of "experiments" the Army was/is doing with this stuff.

anthrax is a bio- weapon. the russians worked on it and refined it in the '80's.
bad 'accidents' in remote locations killed lots of people over there.. i think our scientists conduct experiments w/ it to be competitive w/ the enemy. it's in our arsenal. i bet small pox would be too. but even the russians are scared of that.

I've heard stories of the things they do study over there. They are currently talking about their expansion and the locals are not happy about it. Ft. Detrick is not all that far away from Camp David either.

then the bombshell ... his knees got all shaky and he sputtered ...?

Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? An underling staff got apparently shaky knees (wearing shorts that day?) and it's a bombshell? "I told the general that we didn't make any ..." Really? Is this a Hollywood version of a general or a real one?

We are expected to fill in a lot of assumptions out of our own fetid imaginations here to complete some ostensibly obvious story. We are also being primed by this to fill in the gaps with a particular bias and agenda in mind. So, calling B.S.

My favorite theory. One of the 9/11 highjackers sent the anthrax before they got on the planes. No worry about contamination - gonna die anyway. Where did they get it? Well, if the FBI and Co hadn't been draining swamps instead of examining Occam's Razor, then maybe we'd be a lot further ahead in this.
Who sent the FBI off on a wild goose chase? The same FBI upper mucky-mucks who shut down the FBI field agents and their reporting on flight schools with students who refuse to pay for landing lessons? Or what, the FBI is all style and sunglasses and no substance these days? Posing around like what's his name in The Fugitive, all go-go-go-go-busy-busy-gruff-gruff and utlitmately chasing the wrong guy? In two movies no less - like he didn't learn ANYTHING.
Well, we certainly hope not, though this case does give cause for despair.

This would also provide more proof that the fourth plane was headed for the White House, not Congress. Foreigners, especially from Third World countries grow up with very centralized thinking, that is all the power is in the capital. The USA is quite different. They really did believe New York braggadocio and thought World Trade Towers meant just that. Guaranteed to devastate the US economy! Attacking the USA would be Washington, that is the president. Coup d'etat. Not kidding, this is real: Foreigners typically do not "get" this "Congress" thingy. Especially those from monarchies. The attack was aimed against the president, thus White House. Congress was just getting mail instead. Think that the Congress as target angle was later massaged by the media to puff up the importance of types like Senator John Kerry and to diminish the importance of the presidency.

We ARE at WAR and every enemy uses spies and moles as part of their offensive and defensive strategy. Wars are even won or lost on the actions of spies or infiltrators or traitors - more devastating sometimes than a classical front line full military engagement. Why should anyone believe differently of this war?

I'll have to second that. The thing people don't seem to understand.. as messed up as it is, the [bigoted word] thugs we can see aren't as dangerous as the ones we don't. I mean look at Obama man and what potential damage he has in store for the US if he's elected. Some people are just logic incompetent.

re: #120 baconeatingkaffir
I get grumpy on these things.
Here's something else that influenced me: I'm no handwriting expert, but I have spent YEARS supervising kid's homework and reading notes written by non-Americans who learned handwriting - in Africa. I've seen the handwriting of Europeans, French, British, Africans, Indians and Lebanese. And the block print of the addresses written on those anthrax envelopes looked A LOT like the printing one would get from an African or possibly someone who had learned the English alphabet as a second language.

Americans teach writing using certain strokes and connection style. The French kids for example learn cursive first and are not as adept at manuscript (block printing as Americans). AFricans learn a rote drill - no help in forming the letter, just copy it straight. The result is a very blocky, stiff letter.
The first media reports were, "Well, the FBI is saying someone who is very precise and particular ..."
or FOREIGN YOU MORONS!

right, exactly what I was saying
moot now anyway
and I can't host it myself even if I had a copy
9which I do now)
because I don't "host" my own site
it is a free "blogger" site
and I furthermore would have not a clue how to do it there even if I could

The Anthtax Attacks

I had forgotten they claimed Hatfill had started taking Cipro before the attacks.

Maybe Hatfill is diverticular.

I was incredibly ill with a diverticulitis flare-up during the time of the anthrax attacks. What did they give me for it? Cipro! Looking back on it now it was funny in a sick sort of way...

I agree.

That’s the first impression I got of the handwriting on the letters. Basically, it was written by someone with English as a second language. It was not from a child but from an adult who learned to write English.

Further, the Daschle letter had the words “Allah is great.”

[Excerpt from anthrax time line]:

The Leahy and Daschle letters state in part, “09-11-01 You can not stop us. We have this anthrax” and conclude, “Allah is great.”

See: Anthrax – but take it with a grain of salt

Although medical records are generally private, I remember reading an article about the prime suspects in the AMI attack and it suggested one of them may have checked into a Florida hospital and was never hear of since (possibly to be treated for an anthrax infection).

126 aquinas  Sat, Mar 29, 2008 2:45:11am

For those interested in the anthrax case, try Googling "Dr. Philip Zack" or "Lt. Col. Philip Zack". There really isn't much of a mystery about who it was, nor has there been since the first newspaper stories ran in Jan. of 2002.

Exactly. English printing by an adult who had learned to write first in another, completely different script, ie: Arabic.
