For a break from the usual grind, I’m messing around with imeem, and here’s a playlist I put together in about 10 minutes:

Hey, Hey, I still have no idea what this is about.

2 lummox  Fri, Apr 11, 2008 5:05:59pm

OK I get it now.

Charles is just trying to push a poat off the bottom of the front page.

3 guzziguy  Fri, Apr 11, 2008 5:06:51pm

Okay, I know I'm old, but that first cut doesn't qualify as "quiet."

I'm noticing that some of these tracks appear to have a limit - when you start playing them they only play a 30 second clip. Removed the ones from the list that do this....

12 zombie  Fri, Apr 11, 2008 5:09:10pm

This is nobody's problem but my own, but...

Starting about a week ago YouTubes no longer played on my computer. In fact nothing appears on my screen at all --- just blank white space.

They miust have "upgraded" again or something.

I'm using Safari 3.0.4.

13 Killgore Trout  Fri, Apr 11, 2008 5:09:42pm

It's only giving me about 30 seconds of each song then switches. Anyone else?

The Condom Commercials make it for me. What's a music video without a condom commercial at the end.

And I was listening to Closer by NIN. I'm hardly a prude, but come on.

That's what is happening to me too - even tho it lists the song as 2.12 or something. It poops out.

Easiest thing you can do. Pop in your system disk, restart while holding down the "C" key, navigate to the Disk Utility using the toolbar items at the top of the page, and tell it to repair disk. Once it's done its magic restart and surf away. (You can release the c key when you start seeing the normal start-up images on the screen)

Gah!
Platform Independence

One characteristic, platform independence, means that programs written in the Java language must run similarly on any supported hardware/operating-system platform. One should be able to write a program once, compile it once, and run it anywhere.

Epsom salt baths can also help. I've hit the pavement several times from a bicycle, and it's not much fun.

I got caught in the ultimate vise: a cop on one side saying "GET BACK ON THE SIDEWALK!", and behind me on the other side: A mom and two toddlers, totally blocking any access to the sidewalk. When the torch came near the cop gave me a choice: the truncheon, or back up. I tried to save the kids by diving over them.

We all survived, put it that way.

The next incident happened about two minutes later when a mob of people suddenly reversed course trying to find an alternate freeway entrance ramp. I was still going forward, they were going backward. Hello, horizontal!

I didn't realize until five or ten minutes afterward how much I was bleeding. I must have looked like an actual zombie, for once.

The "mother" is to be cursed for bringing her children into such a situation.

Glad you are alright.

Well, she couldn't have known. She just happened to be where the torch route went -- know one knew ahead of time. She got "lucky", but she wasn't even looking for it. She's walking along, and out of the blue here come 400 cops, 50 Chinese Secret Service agents, 100 screaming Tibetans, the Olympic torch, and me.

Must have been a surreal sight!

Five Gazans killed in incursion by Israel

The headline alone is gem. Poor Gazans, minding there own business, when WHAM out of the blue for no reason....

The photo is pretty good too, "A Palestinian militant wounded..." he's dressed in black, with a hood, missing a shoe. I don't see a drop off blood anywhere!

The IDF version:

An army spokeswoman, speaking on condition of anonymity under army rules, said the soldiers came under heavy mortar and sniper fire and clashed with local gunmen. She said she had no information about youths having been killed, but that if children were in the area of the clashes, they would have been at risk.

And the Pali version:

A medical official at the Aksa Martyrs' Hospital in central Gaza said that 18 civilians and 2 fighters were among the wounded.

And I guarantee I am the only person on the planet listening to this particular record right now!

"Swingin' Harpsichord," by Bruce Prince-Joseph.

From the looks of it, ca. 1957.

Hey, this record is a jillion times better than a CD sound or mp3 sound. One of those '50s ultra-hi-fi records, for discerning bachelors with top-of-the-line hi-fi stereo equipment.

You really do feel like you're in the studio with the musicians.

This is all fascinating. I'm starting to see more of these sites where you just punch in your favorite artist and up pops a playlist. increasingly better sound and video quality as well.

It seems like it might be worth it to just concentrate on having a kick-ass computer + monitor + internet connection. Forget "TV" altogether.

I need more alcohol to watch this.

I think I have this...

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder...

This is how it develops:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox, when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the day:

----the car isn't washed,
----the bills aren't paid,
----there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
----the flowers don't have enough water,
----there is still only 1 check in my check book,
----I can't find the remote,
----I can't find my glasses,
----and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.

Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.

I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.

One more and that's it for the jokes from me.

Leroy goes to the revival and listens to the preacher. After a while the preacher asks anyone with needs to be prayed over to come forward to the front at the altar. Leroy gets in line, and when it's his turn, the preacher asks: 'Leroy, what do you want me to pray about for you?'

Leroy replies: 'Preacher, I need you to pray for my hearing.'

The preacher puts one finger in Leroy's ear, and he places the other hand on top of Leroy's head and prays and prays and prays. After a few minutes, the preacher removes his hands, stands back and asks Leroy: 'Leroy, how is your hearing now?'

Leroy says, 'I don't know, Reverend, it's not until next Wednesday

I never do anything like that with the computer unless supervised by my 13 year old son !

My dad's the same way. I've been fixing our computer since I was 12: it started running really slowly and crashing a lot, and he couldn't figure out what was going on. He was about ready to toss it out a window, so I took a look at it.

"Dad? Isn't this fan in the back supposed to be running?"

It was too late for that poor old computer, though. We had a new one within a week, and he always comes to me first when he runs into a problem.

Hey, this record is a jillion times better than a CD sound or mp3 sound. One of those '50s ultra-hi-fi records, for discerning bachelors with top-of-the-line hi-fi stereo equipment.

You really do feel like you're in the studio with the musicians.

I skipped the whole 8-track/CD era. Went straight from 45s to mp3s.

I hope you have some nice warm glowing vacuum tubes to help get that sound from the groove to the speakers. Four 6L6Gs would be just about perfect.

OT:

Congrats, Charles! You've made it to a mention on far-left-wing site FARK:

The headline?

"After five years of seeing it close-up, the view of young Iraqis toward radical Islam is pretty much the same as the average poster on Little Green Footballs"

re: #234 Killian Bundy

Wow, hockey in the HD is pretty damn impressive.

/other than that, it's a lot like basketball, only with sticks and none of the scoring

Well, basketball would be low scoring, too, if they had a goalie on the team. I suggest a midget suspended on a bungee cord in front of the net.

Why should basketball discriminate against short people?

Please, read and sign the petition. You are also welcome to spread the word.

On 2007 Guillermo Vargas Habacuc, a fake artist, took a street dog, he tied him with a short rope to a wall of an art gallery and he let him die slowly of starvation and thirst, as "installation".

During the several days , the author of this horrible cruelty and the visitors of this Art Gallery (shame on them) remained careless witnesses in front of the agony of the poor animal, until at last he died of starving and thirst, for sure after spending a painful, absurd, suffering.
That's not all: the prestigious CentroAmerican Biennial of Art decided, (shame on them) that the brutality that has been made by this person was art, and on this incomprehensible way Guillermo Vargas Habacuc has been invited to repeat the cruel "installation" at the next Biennial on 2008.
LET'S STOP HIM !
