Olmert Tells Carter to Take a Hike

Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 8:29:37 am PDT

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has refused to meet with Jimmy Carter.

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has turned down a request from former American president Jimmy Carter for a meeting during his visit to Israel next week. The Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni both said that their schedules will not allow a meeting, but an anonymous Israeli official told the Washington Times, “You draw your own conclusions.”

Israeli officials to meet Carter
Published: 04/11/2008

Israeli government officials will meet with former U.S. President Jimmy Carter when he visits the country next week.

President Shimon Peres, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Shas Party chairman Eli Yishai and Israel Beiteinu leader Avigdor Lieberman will all meet with Carter, despite outrage in Israel over a planned meeting with a Hamas leader, the Jerusalem Post reported. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni both declined to meet Carter, citing "scheduling conflicts."

Leaders in Washington and Jerusalem reacted with outrage this week to reports that Carter planned to meet with Khaled Meshaal, a Hamas leader in Damascus.

A State Department spokesperson said senior officials had counseled Carter not to proceed with the meeting, and all three leading presidential contenders -- Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain -- said they disagreed with Carter's plans.

Carter plans to arrive in Israel on Sunday and travel to the embattled town of Sderot on Monday.

Being a former president means this visit is not official and actually self serving. What could a man accomplish if he no longer is a representative of the government? Most likely, lining his pockets is all that can be accomplished.

Why did Carter even bother to ask?

21 yochanan  Sat, Apr 12, 2008 8:40:29am

If one were to sum up the campaign strategy of Barack Obama in a word, it would be "obfuscation." Obama's well-known empty platitudes, of course, serve to hide the man behind them by revealing no detail. His underlying "black rage" -- expressed more openly by his less politically-cunning wife -- is hidden beneath well-crafted loftiness.

Jimmy is probably on a recon mission for the Obama.
See if the Israelis will agree, Barry could lend his advanced negotiating skills to the situation.
It would be so simple really. All the Israelis would have to do is, agree to their own destruction an go away. That would advance the Calipahte a giant step

Unfortunately, for those who view the world through simplistic eyes, they'll see this as reinforcement that the Zionists are intractable and obstinate. Carter, a man of peace, reached out and they rejected him. Shows how much they want peace...

Or something as equally detestable and vile.

50 E tan e epi tan  Sat, Apr 12, 2008 8:47:22am

One of the biggest canards of the postwar era is that Jimmy Carter was a peacemaker because he finally got Egypt to sign accords with Israel after 40 years of intermittent war.

The truth is that Sadat finally figured out that a nuclear armed Israel could kill every living Egyptian with one dirty nuke at the head of the Nile, irradiating the river and destroying the sole source of water for millions of people. Rightly enough, Sadat figured out that was too high a price to pay for Arab pan-nationalism and pride.

Under these circumstances even Farrah Fawcett, in between poster shoots, could've brought peace between Israel and Egypt.

I just thought I'd quote this excellent post. My sentiments exactly.

I've gotten the BSOD once or twice before in the year+ that I've owned this machine and all I did was shut it off. Restarted and all was fine. This time the damn BSOD was up for about an hour or so before I got home and discovered it; I tried to turn off machine and it simply re-booted.
All seems to be ok, but I just wondered if there is any particular thing(s) I should check to make sure they're still working (obviously the Internet and LGF are!)?

If not something recently changed in your software, it could be power supply or RAM. Sometimes power supply problems give the hardest-to-diagnose errors.

If you can install software that watches voltages on the motherboard, you might want to try that. If the 5V or 3.3V rails are too far off, it might the source.

re: #124 realwest

The Bsod usualy is telling you that something is up with your system. Don't ignore it as it will most likely get worse in time. If you have a warranty then just use it. Call them up if there is a service available and demand that it be fixed.

Are you hearing humming sounds or crackling sounds ?

re: #120 realwest

Realwest I`m not very sharp on computers either, so you or anyone else can feel free to laugh at my idea of what might have happened to your machine. Are you sure it was a BSOD or was your machine going into that semi-hibernation state because you left it unattended for a while? If that`s the case, just hitting any key will "wake up" your computer. Lot`s of times I`m watching fairly long videos and the comp goes to a blue screen because I haven`t made any input for so long, just hitting any key returns me back to my video.

I`m pretty sure that if you leave your comp alone for a while while it`s on, it`s perfectly normal for it to go into that state, power saving I guess. You were away from your machine for an hour or so I think you said? Next time it happens just try hitting any key, I get that state if I leave my comp alone without making any input for 20 minutes or so, and hitting any key always "wakes it up".

Yeah, I get a blank screen, may I suggest the next time you plan on turning off your comp, instead leave it alone for a while and see if it goes to that condition and then try the hitting any key thing. If it`s the same condition you described just experiencing and everything works as I describe, I`m fairly certain you`ve stumbled upon a normal "feature" of XPPro and nothing to worry about. Should be easy to try this out real quick today and see if that`s what it is.

One more thing Realwest, I use this free little program SiSandra Lite to monitor the health of my system, you can run automatic checks on each and every component, if something`s haywire, it`ll give you recommendations and tell you what could be wrong if anything. Very simple to use and believe me, I`m guessing I know less about this techie stuff than you do. I highly recommend getting this free little program and running it periodically. Computer magazines used to almost always carry this free program on the giveaway discs that came with some magazines. It`ll even monitor all your component temperatures for you.

Farmers near gaza have to plow with bulletproof glass because of sniper fire. One would have died recently were it not for this. Two months ago a Palestinian sniper murdered a 20-year-old Ecuadorian volunteer who was working in the agricultural fields of Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha. These palestains are just killers, not militants. If carter had any cojones wasn't such an antisemite he'd tell egypt to stop allowing the weapons to flow into gaza. The title of his book implies that Israel is apartheid when in fact no Jews are allowed in the disputed territories.

Ah yes, the 2 bil jizyah....more proof Carter's a moron, since Sadat would probably have done it for free for the reasons I mentioned.

As for the cold peace, the propaganda on the news is probably designed to keep up the government's anti-Israel street cred rather than trying to foment a war. Mubarak has to be as aware of Egypt's vulnerability to Israeli nukes as Sadat was. As for supplying Hamas in Gaza, that's a low order threat that could most effectively be quashed by flattening a quarter mile area around any rocket flare seen from the air. Too bad Olmer's incapable of giving the order.

The real reason Olmert didn't meet with Carter is that he didn't want some type of Harpo Marx mirror effect going on when Carter and him were in the same room. It might get the Israeli public to face once again that just as Carter is the second worst President ever to occupy the Oval Office (Buchanon is first), so Olmert would invite the same comparison (only he'd probably be the worst ever PM of Israel).
