Britain: 30 Active Terror Plots, 200 Networks, 22,000 Terrorists

Sat, Apr 12, 2008 at 9:08:28 pm PDT

The Islamic terror threat in Britain is getting worse, and most of the government is in complete denial, refusing to do anything to deal with the situation: Smith says monitoring 30 U.K. terrorism plots.

LONDON (Reuters) - British police and security agencies are currently monitoring 30 terrorism plots, Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said in extracts of a newspaper interview released on Saturday.

“We now face a threat level that is severe. It’s not getting any less, it’s actually growing,” she said in an interview to be published in Sunday’s News of the World.

“We task the police and the security agencies with protecting us ... There are 22,000 individuals they are monitoring. There are 200 networks. There are 30 active plots,” she said.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown’s Labour government is seeking to extend pre-charge detention of terrorism suspects to 42 days from the current 28-day limit.

But Smith faces a tough task steering the controversial provisions through parliament.

The Conservative and Liberal Democrat parties have both said they will vote against extended detention. Labour backbenchers are also threatening to rebel and vote down the clause in the Counter-Terrorism Bill.

Hell, the Brits have more surveillance cameras per square mile in London than in any other city on Earth! I've read where the average Londoner is videotaped anywhere from 350-450 times every single day! They are truly Orwellian in that aspect! And there are LOTS of cameras everywhere else in Britain, too.

Well, six and half years after jihaid attacks killed 3000 people on our soil, we have lawyers lining up to defend unlawful combatants, students on college campuses supporting terrorist scumbags like Sami al-Arian, an ex-President eager to meet Hamas, and regardless of who's elected President, we will close Guantanamo Bay, that horrific gulag where unlawful combatants gain weight on halal meals and receive the best medical care Western Civilization can buy, prayer rugs, and little surgical mask hammocks to keep their terror manual in a place of honor.

Given that, I can't be too hard on Britain. There's a deep sickness and self-destructive streak in the West right now. I don't know who can fix it.

This level of infiltration and sedition is what you get when your immigration policy is incoherent.

British government: "Muslims? Sure! No problems with Muslims... just don't be too Muslim... you're not too Muslim are you?"

First immigrant: "Ummm... no! Not us!"

Second immigrant: "Giggle giggle"

First immigrant: "Shhh!"

Hint: Seething, violence and agitation for control and supremacy are root parts of the religion, not some recent aberration that can be quelled with a few cloying TV ads and an outreach program or two. You can't separate out the apolitical moderates from their true believer brethren. You accept Islam or you don't... stop pretending you can moderate it, you can't. Hell, the Muslims themselves can't moderate it... how can you?

Its a binary situation; yes or no, on or off. If you accept them and their religion, they get to practice their religion and try to shape their new home to their vision of a "better society". Its called democracy. If there are major parts of that religion you find objectionable, then don't accept them. One or the other. Trying to fight a perpetual rear-guard action against creeping Islamisation is a doomed strategy.

Britain has seen a marked increase in militant Islamist plots since it joined the United States in invading Iraq in 2003.

Could the increase just possibly related to verses in the Qur'an like this one?

re: #87 realwest

Um, if Chicago's Mayor is so conservative, why would he support Obama who almost makes Hillary Clinton look conservative in comparison?

Because both are a part of the Illinois Combine. Daley isn't so much conservative as autocratic with a twinge of fascism. he supports GWB right now because it is to his benefit. When it is no longer to his benefit, he'll stop the support. Daley pulls this bullshit all the time.

He supports Obama for a very good reason. First thing Obama does as president is to get rid of Patrick Fitzgerald. That benefits the entire Combine from Daley to Blago to Obama to Rezko to Levine to...and I can go on and on.

/Illinois is a one party state with two names.

"There has been much speculation about what motivates young men and women to carry out acts of terrorism in the UK. My Service needs to understand the motivations behind terrorism to succeed in countering it, as far as that is possible. Al-Qaida has developed an ideology which claims that Islam is under attack, and needs to be defended. This is a powerful narrative that weaves together conflicts from across the globe, presenting the West’s response to varied and complex issues, from long-standing disputes such as Israel/Palestine and Kashmir to more recent events as evidence of an across-the-board determination to undermine and humiliate Islam worldwide."
Eliza Manningham-Buller, Director-General of MI5

157 Sharmuta  Sat, Apr 12, 2008 10:02:31pm

re: #120 Bob in Breckenridge

Ultimately, the responsibility for a terrorist attack lies with the terrorists, but the government certainly doesn't need to behave in a complicit manner before hand, turning a blind eye to the very real danger in which their citizens now face:

"Since the beginning of 2007, 57 people have been convicted on terrorist plots," said Smith.

"Nearly half of those pleaded guilty so this is not some figment of the imagination. It is a real risk and a real issue we need to respond to."

They are monitoring 30 plots. That's astounding. Could you imagine the FBI or Homeland Security telling the American public they're monitoring 30 plots in this country and are going to rescind the Patriot Act or something similar? There would be an outcry from the American people, and the Brits better do something similar, or yes- I would hold the government partly responsible. Indeed- there is some accountability on the part of the electorate giving these people power. However- until the next election, it is the elected officials who bear the responsibility of their offices in a representative democracy.

In Spain, Greece, Latvia, and Portugal arriving Brit youth hordes disembarking from discount airline flights bring on cries of disgust, revulsion, and loud detestations from the locals.

Britain is so decadent and shot through with socialist pc I see little hope that it will save itself from islamofascism. The jihaddis themselves say in their rants that Britain will be the first country in Europe where they will take control and impose sharia.
Thank you Rowan Williams and the labor party for paving the way for rule of Old Blighty by muslim terrorists.

That one speaks to me. I just blew off a long standing friendship, (mentioned it before), but a former pal of mine was trying to convince me that Charlton Heston was really a racist, at a dinner party that I am my wife hosted, on the very day of the great man's death. I threw his sorry ass out. We have not spoken since, nor do I think we shall. Good riddance to the scoundrel. I was really upset about it for about, oh, 10 minutes.

I liked the 'parachuting admiral' part of the story:

"Around 12 pirates grabbed the three-masted yacht, the Ponant, last Friday, about 850 km out to sea in the Gulf of Aden. They then sailed the boat to the Somali coast, eventually mooring at Garaad, near the town of Eyl.

The French navy sent 2 boats to the area, with 4 or 5 helicopters on board and around 50 commandos. A French admiral was also parachuted into the sea and picked up by the task force to help lead the operation."

"This phenomenon is increasing, with the pirates becoming ever better equipped and organized," said Jean-David Levitte, Sarkozy's chief diplomatic advisor.

"We are confronted by a real, real threat," he said, adding that over the last 10 years 3,200 sailors had been kidnapped by pirates, 500 injured and 160 killed.

'Barbary' pirates return, this time in Somalia.

I agree with you but at the same time the number of talented young Americans seeking to get into our top rated universities both public and private with high entrance exam scores and grades keep increasing.
Our youth are 89% rot and dumb as posts but there are 20% who are high acheivers. My son's alma mater's new entrants every year have higher average SAT scores than the previous and the percentage of applicants turned down keeps rising. How do we know? We still get the parents' mailings pitching us for donations with those reports though our own kid graduated 2 years ago.
The above phenomenon which I observed as teacher of Advanced Placement clsses for nearly thirty-five years is actually accelerating. It is the two tier society and we are developing it with a vengeance.

where he is rumored to have a spine.
His injuries were minor but mine were very critical and my very life was
endangered. I bled so severely from the wounds that I had to be rushed
to the nearest hospital where I was given 8 pints of antifreeze
intravenously to replace the blood loss. People noticed the change in
me immediately. Never before had people seen me as the warm and caring
person that I truly am.
The only downside is that PETA will no longer let dogs come near me
without starting protest marches and picket lines.

They have nothing to do with common sense, insight, or wisdom.

Showing up at the house works... if you know where it is. Kind of a nuclear option, that you usually don't have to use more than once.

The other way my daughter bought back time was to have her boy friend, date, friend give me their cell phone number before they left.

That was good for an hour, since I used that number to call if she was late....

And, tonight - he'll have a good excuse or a lame one... only thing that I can't state for sure.

You accept excuses? My girls got a 5 minute grace period from the time they said they would be home. (Note I did not give them a curfew.) And if they were not there and not in the hospital, they were grounded 1 day for every minute they were late. None of them had cellphones.

Thanks I will try that sometime. I thought we had the phone thing straightened out the last time and the only time he had been late on curfew and didn't answer phone. He kind of lost his computer for two months due to the mother board being blown. I got mad and so I went in to his room( I was going to remove electrical supply--pull the cord from computer --so he could not use it for few days) I pushed the button to turn it off but didn't wait long enough for it to completely shut down before pulling cord from wall outlet and it blew the mother board in it. Parents don't try to punish kids while being mad---it cost me a bunch to have computer fixed--but in a way it was worth it--because he was without for 2 months and this is the first time he has been late in almost a year.

phone called excuse before curfew = 15 minutes grace period....

I never believed in a "curfew" per se. If they had some reasonably reason to be out late, that was fine. But by golly, they had better be exactly where they said they would be and with the people they said they would be or there would be hell to pay.

All of them were grounded for many days at least once - except the youngest, who learned from watching all of her sisters. The next to the youngest was grounded the entire year that she was 12, more or less. Every time she got "free" it would last just about 48 hours. It was rather funny a year or so ago (she is now a history teacher) to hear her ranting and raving about some of her students and then segue into "MY kids are not going to behave like that!" :)

I checked openly at least a couple of times when they were in the 12-13 age range. Enough so they knew it was a distinct possibility that I might check or call for some reason.

To my mind, telling the people that you live with or your employer where you are going/when you will be back is simple common courtesy. Keeping your word is a point of honor. If you cannot keep your word with something so simple as where you will be then your word doesn't mean much.

We go through both the dependable kid to the foul-mouthed smart ass, (which he is doing at this time cause he knows he did wrong and is going to be so grounded)
He knows the rules and there is no excuse we accept for not calling and letting us know why he is not at home when suppose to be.

You people of America,
There is a lot more to the recently released account of what happened to
me while I was in Bosnia that the press wouldn't reveal. You will read
it here now only on LGF.
You may have heard about the sniper fire which surrounded me on every
side but I'm sure you didn't know I was hit several times once in the
neck, once in the area where most people have a heart, and Bill was hit
where he is rumored to have a spine.

The sooner Britian stops treating terrorism as a crime, instead of an act of war, the less painful it will be.

The pain will be significant though, because PC allowed the problem to get this bad.

Won't be long until the terrorists outnumber the authorities. Then what?

All authorities should be required to read the terrorists' play book - the Koran - to see what they are up against. Here's a brief 50 things Muslims don't want Infidels to know.

Kids today have too much stuff, too many toys, too much entertainment. They get burned out, and hence get bored too easily!

When I was a kid, I could happily play for hours with a Super-Ball, or a magnifying glass, or a couple of crayons and some scratch paper. I was never bored once!

Though I think teenagers have claimed to be "bored" since the dawn of time.

There is that. I tried that once with the TV. Kids found another cord in under 15 minutes. Disconnected the cable on the outside of the house. That took them a half hour or so to discover. I ended up picking up the TV, heaving it out into the driveway right in front of their darling little faces, dusting off my hands and saying "There! Watch that!" They did not get TV again for more than 5 years. (This was a battle over bedrooms you had to climb down to get into and the ring of garbage where they refused to move from in front of the set.)

And the look on their faces as all that stuff leaves for parts unknown is absolutely priceless.

One unforeseen side effect was that never again did I have to take drastic action. One of the girls would start to push the envelope a bit too far and one of her sisters would look at her and whisper "Remember the TV!"

I've always thought that it is ludicrous to allow people to vote at 18 and draft men to send off to fight at the same age but make it illegal for the same people that are "adult" enough to sign a binding contract, die or choose a president to have a lousy beer.

I've also always figured that kids don't miraculously learn how to make decisions on the day they turn 18. I don't believe in "rules" so much as standards of behaviour and keeping your word.

I agree with that. I teach students that are 18-25 (usually) at a private university here in Istanbul. They have to have English before they move on to their main faculty as most of the instructors are foreigners and English is the main language.
Anyhow this new generation seems lost to me. The majority of my students come from rich families and have been spoon-fed and given most of everything... well, everything materially not alot of love nor attention. Very few of them have been accountable for their actions. I got so sick of the "no homework" excuses that I sat one of my classes down and had a "come to Jesus" chat with them. I told them I do understand that they are young and that they would rather be drinking beer, playing basketball or whatever but this is the beginning of their academic carreers and their performance would determine how their performance would be in their departments. I also told them that I was tired of the "my grandmother was ill" excuses and that I wasnt born yesterday. I know when people BS me and I wuold just appreciate it more if they would be adult about it an tell me the truth. I was surprised becasue it actually worked! I had one guy actually tell ask "I dont feel like taking the test today because I have a hangover.. can I take it in the afternoon?" Normally I wuld have said no but since its a private school, I let him. Anyhow, I find taht instead of talking down to them as in the normal teacher-student relationship and talking to him like I learned at my NCO prep school works alot better.
Its amusing the way these kids behave. I had a guy who was 23 years old who failed my class on attendance and homework show up at my office with his mom. Sheesh!

We have kind of went that route already, about 4 of years ago. I Have friends in police dpt and juvinile probation office. Checked him out of school one day and paid visit to police and probation office. They gave him a really good talking to and put the fear in him. He is not a bad kid and has never been in trouble at school or with the police, but he was having some anger issues and when he would get mad here at home he would take off and say he was not coming back. We would go out and try to bring him home and he would take off and hide so we went to police and talked to them and made a plan. It worked. He is also in counseling and has been for few years. We found out that he was being bullied at school real bad and that he was releasing all his anger at home.

Sad, isn't it? Those that do not learn how to make decisions and how to take responsibility at their parent's knee have a hard time of it.

BTW, one of the best classes I ever took, geared to about the same age group that you teach (I was over the hill LOL - went back to college at 40) was one where the professor contracted with students for the grade - English class, lit for young adults. If you wanted a C you read the weekly book and took the weekly quiz. For a B you did the C work plus wrote a certain number or book reviews. For an A you did the C work and a big project. Fail to comply with your contract and you fail. Pretty neat. I wish more of my professors had adopted her method.

I dunno Gran, my oldest daughter is a spitfire. She got selected to go to China (she studies Chinese lang and lit) and came back with hair like a troll doll, two tattoos and a metal piece in her lower lip. Now the metal part is out and hair grown back but the tats have stayed. I actually think she regrets them. She has been talking to me about joining the navy in the Us and %u0131 told her that the yin-yang on her hand would probably be a prob .

Yup, the tat would be an automatic rejection.

See, I would have expected that though. Boys are very in your face about their defiance. Girls are exactly the opposite. They will stand right there bold as brass saying "Yes Mama!" and then turn around and immediately go do what they want anyway the minute they think your back is turned.

The 99 Questions technique works wonders. (What do you think will happen if you do that? How will that make you feel? Is there anything else that might happen? Ad nauseum. Teaches them to think.) My youngest did come back from her first foray with her tongue pierced - that disappeared. My next to the oldest periodically dyes her hair blue or purple. (It washes out in days even when she does not want it to.) And the next to the youngest tried smoking for a year or so.

All in all, I figure that is not too bad for four of them.

My sons turned out to be decent men. The one that went to boot camp is now a sheriff's deputy. They weren't bad or got in trouble or stole or any of that. But you have to catch it before it starts.
They go through anger issues too anyway (testerone?) and if there is something else compoundeding it like the troubles of being bullied at school makes it worse.

Thats a good idea. I should think about that. My biggest problem is attendance. They get a certain amount of points for attendance and participation. I try to make them feel motivated to come.. "where have you been, we missed you etc etc". However Im not going to bully them or call their parents like some of the yoyos I work with ahve done. I try to empathize with them.

tattoos are removable

Yes I know. But laser surgery is not cheap. And depending on how the tat was done, it might require several attempts.

OK, the new, clear Obama audio is now available as a posting on zomblog!

Pass the link around.

Will Obama's campaign survive this? Signs point to "No."

My daughter got hers done in china. Theyre not colored only black. Maybe theyre removable however I aint paying for that. SHe was adult enough to find the money to do it. She can be adult enough to get them removed.

Where did you get the new clear audio? Inquiring minds want to know who the mole was inside the big Private Fundraiser :)

Please make sure that she gets tested for Hepatitis B and HIV - soon. And repeat in 6 months. And she can never donate blood.

re: #401 gop_patriot

How does something like that get on your computer? Does it attach itself to something else that you're downloading?

I wish I knew.

I think it's actually a "leftover" from a long time ago when I may have put it there myself in an attempt to do something unnecessarily complicated on the Web.

Whatever its origins, it's gone now!

Sounds like you did a great job raising your son's, and you should be very proud of them. Unfortunately there are parents out there that can't make the claim of their sons being decent men. I believe in being proactive also and that is why I did what I did and still have him in counseling. He is even got to where he likes it and will drive himself to his weekly appts. The counselor even said that he could start coming just once a month or every two weeks if he wanted to and he decided that he wanted to keep going once a week--and no he does not get out of school to go. I just hope he stays on the right track and I can someday make the same statement as you--My son turned out to be a decent man!
