In the software world it would be called feature creep.

I don't get it. I paid $75.00 to get my taxes done. State and Federal...walked in with receipts w2's records...even out of order...was out within 45 minutes. Picked them up a week later...done.

My best friend (who makes four times what I do has his taxes done by a pro, pays about 400 a year (gets advice during year)).

It's not all that expensive. I'll never do my own taxes again.

We're the Knights of the Round Table
Our shows are formitable
But many times we're given rhymes
That are quite un-singable

We're opera mad here in Camelot
We sing from the diaphram a... l...o...o...o...t...

In war we're tough and able

Between our quests we sequin vests

What, you were actually thinking of voting for him before today? Let's recap, Obama:

Is a socialist black separatist that hates America and dislikes whitey,

Is Gun Satan,

Is personal friends with domestic terrorists, unrepentant to this day, who bombed the Pentagon and several other buildings,

Is not a Muslim, but will surrender to them because he likes them better than Israel,

Paid for his Chicago property the same way Hillary paid for her cattle futures,

Will raise your taxes significantly which will, in turn, crush the equities markets,

Has more experience at drug use than governance, and

Will, with a Bonkey Senate, have activist judges to the left of Ruth Bader Ginsberg flying out the door.

Am I missing much?

It was actually in the high 50s when I got there earlier in the weeks. Thursday and Friday were really nice. I try to avoid visiting this time of year, but had to go west for business, so I extended my stay a bit.

I prefer San Diego in the early fall when it's still good beach weather. The water was pretty damn cold the other day.

So, as I sit here over my warming computer on a hot California afternoon feverishly finishing my taxes while the cloudless sky beckons me to wander outside, the gall of the State of California angers me.

For those of us who have lived and worked overseas (or still are...), the fact that the State of California will double tax you (on the taxes you may have paid overseas) is something we have to deal with, but it raises no ire with 99.9% of the population, though it is one of the more egregious examples of abuse.

Alas, it will never become a campaign issue...

John Deere Green

They were farm kids way down in Dixie
They met in high school in the sixties
Everyone knew it was love from the start
One July in the midnight hour
He climbed the water tower
Stood on the rail and painted a 10ft heart
In John Deere green

On a hot summer night
He wrote Billy Bob loves Charlene
In letters 3 foot high
And the whole town said that he should have used red
But it looked good to Charlene
In John Deere green

re: #90 Ma Sands

We get a long "stretch" of that heat annually. 'Round here we call it "I F**king Hate Summer".

It wouldn't be all that bad if we just had a Spring that lasted more than half an hour. One year I blinked, and missed it entirely.

I guess the up-side is for folks with pools. There isn't a pool heater anywhere in this valley, so maintenance is much simpler.

It depends on where "overseas" is. Canada -- and many other countries -- has a tax treaty with the US. You only get dinged in one country (basically, where you claim residence) rather than th double-whammy you're seeing.

The politicians at the California statehouse do not know, or do not care, how strongly the negative feedback is, to those of us who aren't/don't want to be in California 100% of the time, or who have jobs elsewhere, etc.

The US signs tax treaties with other nations (that usually provide for some sort of quid pro quo regarding taxing income.) However, the state of California chucks that out the window whenever they see fit...

Anyway, taxes are essentially done now (except for amendments for back years... sigh...).

here are some interesting thoughts on obama's chances in November from an article that I saw on drudge's front page.

There is reason to question whether obama would be able to perform at average levels with other main pillars (besides Blacks)of the traditional Democratic coalition: blue-collar whites, Jews and Hispanics. He has run decently among these groups in some places, but in general he’s run well behind clinton.

Obama lost the Jewish vote by double-digits in Florida, New York and Maryland — and that was before controversy over anti-Israel remarks of jeremiah wright.

An undecided Democratic superdelegate said that many Jewish voters are itching for a reason to break with the party and side with Republicans, who have embraced the Israeli cause with passion. A small shift could swing swing states like Florida and Pennsylvania, which have significant Jewish populations.

if obama loses NY and FL, he has no shot. I hope McCain is planning to spend his money accordingly.

There is reason to question whether obama would be able to perform at average levels with other main pillars (besides Blacks)of the traditional Democratic coalition: blue-collar whites, Jews and Hispanics. He has run decently among these groups in some places, but in general he’s run well behind clinton.

Has the Obama machine slurred Hispanics yet?

I know-when I read the story, I started thinking about all the questions people could start asking her about her gun "experience". I bet she could be tripped up in three good questions at the max.

Someone needs to do a deed search to see if a)Her grandfather ever built a cabin on a lake and PA and b)if anyone around there ever saw her shoot one.

The cabin definitely exists. There's a recent NYTimes story that shows a picture. The family still owns it, and her brothers use it. Apparently, she described learning to shoot from her grandfather in her autobiography. Doesn't seem so surprising, actually. I don't think she's done much hunting lately, though.

Rome, he said, would become "an advanced post for the Islamic conquests which will spread through Europe in its entirety, and then will turn to the two Americas, and even Eastern Europe."

Israel fears US will sell top fighter jets to Saudi Arabia

Israel is increasingly concerned that the United States will allow the sale of fifth-generation, stealth-enabled Joint Strike Fighter jets - aka the F-35 Lightning II - to Saudi Arabia, The Jerusalem Post has learned.

Unless Mitterrand gave the British the "deactivate" codes used by anti-ship missiles that France had sold to Argentina.

We should make a deal with the Saudis so they can keep American fighter jets, (with American pilots, of course), in Saudi Arabia, for free. No charge. On a separate base, of course. We provide the food, maintenance, jets, men, pay, electricity, etc. They provide the land. That way, we can "protect them". Free. Just relax. The Americans are here. My hometown of Spokane was getting snow but the truckload just a week or two ago. Now, here in SoCal, it's gotten ridiculously hot. Even the cat doesn't want to move around.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard the latest spin on Obama's "all small town people are mouth breathing, Bible-thumping, gun-toting racists?" Just saw a bunch o' Dems try to say "he didn't use the right words."

Oh, ok - it's ok to call all small-town Americans "mouth breathing, Bible-thumping, gun-toting racists," as long as you use purty words. I also find it hilarious that many pundits on the left are actually defending Obama by saying his statement was TRUE! Hahahahaha . . .! You know, I've lived in small towns in the Northwest and the Southeast, and I've lived in big cities in the Northeast and Southwest, and all I can say is I've run into more racist, gun-toting, sub-moronic (thank you, "progressive genius" Oliver Wendall Holmes for that little category) idiots in the big cities than I ever did in the small towns. And the vast majority of these idiots were leftists.

What is really amazing is that Obama said this at the super-fund raiser that Zombie so wonderfully covered, wherein Obama didn't think there would be any reporters. He made these comments to a bunch of uber-rich, left-wing elitists (for a great summary of San Franciscans, see the mini-commentary from Parker and Stone on the South Park episode "Smug") who think exactly like the statement. Five'll get ya ten that was a Hillary supporter who bought his way in to the event and recorded it for just this reason.

the sinner,

Charles

Sweet Hillary reveals the harrowing tale of her courage under fire in her new book, Thousand Yard Stare: My life as a mercenary and other fairy tales (thanks to the incomparable Che Gaiavera of the incomparable blamebush, [Link: blamebush.typepad.com...]

There we were in the back of an OV-10, or maybe it was a C-141. I always confuse the two. We were set to make a covert insertion into Belgrade. As we neared the drop zone, Dutch, or maybe it was the guy off Scrubs, began sobbing uncontrollably, "You know, I have some R&R coming up, I was hoping I could maybe, you know, take it. I got a bad feeling about this one, man."
I slapped him. "Pull yourself together for God's sake! I'd rather be home baking cookies for my daughter, too, but we have a MISSION, damnit. A MISSION! And if I ever catch you putting insect repellent on your feet again, I'll give you an article 14 myself!"

Finally we arrived at our insertion point. I grabbed my gear and began shuffling to the door as the Loadmaster opened the door and began barking orders, "Thank you for flying MAC air. Watch your step. Please fly with us again. Thank you for flying MAC Air..."

At last it was my turn in the door. I hesitated for a moment before feeling the gentle nudge of the Jumpmaster. I exited the plane, barely touching the guardrail on the mobile stairs as I descended toward terra firma.

When I reached the tarmac, I drew my 9mm with one hand and fixed the bayonnet to its barrel with the other. My Spider Senses tingling and my adrenaline gushing, I slipped into a native drawl for no particular reason, "Thar's snaypers in them thar hills!" I warned.

"Mmm-hmm." said my protective detail SAC, disinterested, choosing to focus on real threats instead.

I felt the sniper's round whiz by my head, missing me by only 2 or 3 miles. By taking a bad shot, though, the undisciplined shooter betrayed his position. I saw him there, his ghilly suit glistening in the sun, making him appear to be just another dilapidated Zil. A clever disguise, indeed!
I did a monkey-roll, pulling a pilfered USS George Washington ash tray from my blouse, and lobbed it at my assailant.

1000 yards, high wind, heavy rain. Three, maybe four people in the world could've made that shot. I've always been good at killing, though. My projectile hit its mark, going through the sniper's scope and knocking him unconscious.

"Here, Mom" Chelsea said, handing me my rucksack. "You dropped your purse. Oh, can I borrow, you know, something? I forgot my Aunt Flo is coming this week."
"I don't use those anymore." I declared. "I ain't got time to bleed."
