Irrelevant is as irrelevant does.

2 EC Marm  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:19:51am

Geez, I sometimes put a minor, hopefully non-irritating, link to my blog here and get that in the first hour.

BIG JOHNSON YADDA YADDA...

4 JamesTKirk  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:20:00am

Village Voice readers are afraid to click the link and be exposed to your site.

And in other, more important news, Carter meets with the Zahar. The terrorist Zahar of Hamas, that is.

6 vxbush  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:20:35am

Charles, have you compared this number to the number of hits for Village Voice? I figured you could pull up those numbers to see if people simply aren't clicking the link (thinking that LGF is Pure Evil™) or there simply aren't people reading Village Voice, which seems to be your position.

7 Honorary Yooper  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:20:41am

That corporate shill Roy Edroso will never get that he is becoming small potatoes sticking with that local paper, The Village Voice.

8 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:20:56am

Its not the size of the hit piece, its what you do with it that counts!

Of course, people with small hit pieces always say that.

9 Eric  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:20:57am

And yet they will sit back, calmly thinking "That'll show 'em."

Lileks had a nicely dismissive comment about this piece this morning.

Heh. last night the total was 151. That means 4 links in the past 12 hours.

6, Killgore, 6 links in 12 hours, for an average of one every two hours.

12 MandyManners  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:22:58am

I think all are from RoyO wanting to see how badly we've spanked him.

Or, maybe from his mommy.

13 unrealizedviewpoint  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:22:58am

Don't forget half of that 157 were lizards.

I think this has even wider implications:

I think that not only are the printed-edition circulation numbers of newspapers greatly inflated, but I think their Web stats are inflated as well.

Someone once showed me some Web stats from a local paper and I was stupefied -- they got fewer visitors that zombietime! And I get about only 10% of what Charles gets.

16 formercorpsman  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:26:42am

What does this do to the ratio?

re: #15 zombie

Zobmie, yesterday I left a comment for Roy Edroso on his blog regarding the circulation of The Village Voice with the readership of LGF. I also called him a corporate shill.

He was a little pissy in his reply. I guess the corporate shill remark got to him.

OH forgive him - he just finished his taxes for cryin' out loud!
LOL!

...another no-name I've never heard of talking shit to gain attention...

21 looking closely  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:27:51am

Most people who read the newspaper still read the actual paper.

22 Ward Cleaver  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:28:02am

Don't disturb Roy, he's busy watching Omar Al-Sweilem.

23 JammieWearingFool  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:28:40am

These people just continue to open the door into their faces.

Idiots.

You know, its pretty sad that the VV has to resort to attacking blogs to generate traffic/interest.

26 chinesearithmetic  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:29:51am

I remember when they couldn't shove punk rock down our throats, their headline was TRUST US

27 realwest  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:33:00am

Y'all know what's genuinely funny/interesting about this? Back in the late '70s the Village Voice was not a giveaway, you had to pay for it and it actually had a few decent things about it (Nat Hentoff's review of jazz albums and stuff). Not many, but a few. And it's circulation was someting around 100,000 copies a week.
Now, if I understand some of the commenters on this topic on prior threads, it's a giveaway paper, like the "Pennysaver" or some such and their website receives so few visitors that even an ugly and of course wrong "hit piece" like this one was can't even generate much interest.
Sorta mirrors and portends the future of print newspapers - I hope!

28 Egfrow  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:38:50am

Charles, Sorry about that, The Extra 51 clicks in your logs was me trying out my new mouse gesture technology. I was accidentally on the Village Voice page when I was doing it. By Bad!

29 uncle_monkey  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 10:40:55am

Not that it isn't the weakest hit piece ever, but looking at it from the other side - I NEVER click a kos or huffpo link from here. Don't have the stomach for it.

Plus, we're assuming that their readers know what a hyperlink is.

there was a 2 ft. stack on the floor in the corner market this morning. no one was picking it up. it really isn't worth looking at. it's a tired old irrelevant stupid paper in the throes of it's demise. the nyt is next.

Damnit, Kilgore. Our stupidity ratio just went up!

I think our naughty ratio spiked on the previous thread.

This also does not take into account those who intentionally disable referring data in their web browsers (like I sometimes do). I could click to LGF a thousand times from the Village Voice article and Charles' counter wouldn't go up once.

36 Ojoe  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 11:17:49am

We are centrist, they are fringe.

38 Cicero05  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 12:02:01pm

Charles' "evil" level has now risen to 98, but the good news is that is corresponds to a commensurate decrease in his "stupid" level to 2.

39 code red 21  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 12:40:20pm

I think you're better looking than the cartoon portrays you but it could be all of the evil spikes in the background.

40 bunuel  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 2:45:39pm

Looked at it. One of the very dumbest. But seems to feel very proud. The usual combination.

41 Ceemack  Thu, Apr 17, 2008 4:26:50pm

Sounds like the Village Voice has developed a terminal case of laryngitis.

42 TheMole  Fri, Apr 18, 2008 12:19:39am

The Village Voice is just like all the other "alternative" giveaway papers. Some people pick them up for the local entertainment listings, nobody reads the content, and the paper survives on advertising revenue derived largely from the smut ads in the back. The people who write the filler columns and articles get paid peanuts or nothing at all. There's no reason for anybody to actually read their drivel.
