IPT: New York Times Shills for Sami Al-Arian

Fri, Apr 18, 2008 at 3:50:11 pm PDT

There’s a very serious propaganda campaign under way to drum up sympathy for jailed Islamic Jihad leader Sami Al-Arian, by Muslim Brotherhood front group MAS and (of course) CAIR. Steven Emerson is outraged by a New York Times article that uncritically repeats the front groups’ falsehoods: What about Sami?: New York Times Buys Into American Ikhwan Lobbying on Behalf of Convicted Terrorist.

The New York Times today became the latest tool in an aggressive lobbying campaign aimed at sabotaging a terror investigation in northern Virginia.

The campaign to free Sami Al-Arian started last year, led by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the Muslim American Society (MAS), and other American Islamist groups after the Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) operative was held in contempt of court for refusing to comply with consecutive grand jury subpoenas. He now is defying his third subpoena to testify in a terror finance investigation involving a Virginia-based network that provided Al-Arian’s organizations with tens of thousands of dollars in the 1990s.

In 2006, Al-Arian was sentenced to 57 months in prison, with credit for time served, after pleading guilty to conspiracy to provide goods and services to the PIJ. Though his prison sentence is over, Al-Arian could be held in contempt again or even face criminal contempt of court charges. That’s what the New York Times reports today. But, just like Al-Arian’s supporters, today’s Times story grossly mischaracterizes the case, distorts what Al-Arian has admitted and incorrectly states why he remains in jeopardy:

“The Justice Department and some independent terrorism investigators have long accused Mr. Al-Arian of being the main North America organizer for Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which has claimed responsibility for some of the more deadly suicide bombings against Israeli targets and which the United States has designated a terrorist organization.

Mr. Al-Arian’s supporters, though, say that he is nothing more sinister than an outspoken Palestinian activist, and that the Justice Department has tried to exploit the post-Sept. 11 mood in the United States to punish him for that, using legal maneuvering to keep him behind bars.”

If this were a secret tribunal, Times reporter Neil MacFarquhar might be excused for blindly accepting the representations of Al-Arian’s attorneys and supporters. But there is an open record, one every reporter at the nation’s supposed paper of record should be able to locate. Here’s some help. Click here. It is Al-Arian’s plea agreement. In a nutshell, it states that (Al-Arian) is pleading guilty because [the] defendant is in fact guilty."

Muslim apologist in Der Spiegel cites exorcisms to defend islamist practices in Europe!

Reetz: So far as I know, all the large Muslim associations recognize Germany’s legal system and constitution.... In rural Catholic areas, rituals and a belief in miracles still belong to daily life, and previous generations still practiced exorcism, which might seem very alienating to outsiders. Pluralistic European society can and has withstood that.

SPIEGEL: The analogy with exorcism is rather weak, since such practices are only rare exceptions in Western Europe today. In contrast, forced marriages are still very widespread in Muslim societies, and for many Muslim women it is very difficult to lead independent lives.

Fuck Sami, the New York Times and the Islamo Fascist camel they rode in on. The New York Times can commit suicide on it's own without inviting the entire country to join in and Sami is nothing but the eventual guest of honor at his own execution.

NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Times Co. lost $335,000 in the first quarter as advertising revenues slumped, the newspaper publisher said Thursday in a report that fell far short of Wall Street estimates.

And Pinch scratches his butt and wonders why.

20 opnion  4/18/08 4:17:49 pm reply quote 0

The NY Times is disingenuous. The guy got 57 months for conspiracy to supply terrorists He pleaded guilty.
He is now not complying with a third subpoena & they lend credence to supporters claiming that it is Justice exploiting a post 9/11 mood. They are either lazy or willfully misleading.
These guys were anything but smug right after 9/11.They were scared.
But, hey the feel safe now , so the snarkiness is back

"The Justice Department and some independent terrorism investigators have long accused Mr. Al-Arian of being the main North America organizer for Palestinian Islamic Jihad...."

I believe Al-Arian was the treasurer of PIJ, or in some fashion controlled the flow of money. Maybe not the head honcho, but on the "Board" nevertheless.

"...and that the Justice Department has tried to exploit the post-Sept. 11 mood in the United States to punish him for that, using legal maneuvering to keep him behind bars.”

Al-Arian had been flying under the radar for what... 20 some odd years prior? It was only a matter of time before they caught up to him.

We have been infected with an invasive form of cancer called Islamofascism, which is progressively taking over our democratic organs - the MSM, the Justice system and even our politicians. The tumour needs to be treated before it becomes inoperable. And then we will probably need to use chemo and radiation to achieve a cure.
Anybody know a good oncologist?

Some other articles from the original NYT author, Neil MacFarquhar.

Many Muslims Turn to Home Schooling

Her family wanted her to clean and cook for her male relatives

For Muslim Students, a Debate on Inclusion

Mr. Mertaban also recalls that his fellow recruiter surveyed the young woman with disdain, arguing later that she should not be admitted because her skirt clearly signaled that she would corrupt the Islamic values of the other members.

What kind of name is MacFarquhar? Is he half Irish, half Saudi?

FREE JONATHAN POLLARD NOW!

It is sick that terrorists who plot to maim and kill innocent people can walk the street and get support from the likes of NYT. While a man who was simply giving information which should have been given to Israel sits in prison for life. We must rise up to free the poor Jew who is being used as a whipping boy by the US administration. It is simply sick and a sign of the greater sickness this country is suffering from. There is a faction in this country which loves the 'bad-boy' image of the terrorists. These are the lefties which we encounter, who take up the so-called palistinian cause. They are a cancer which must be removed or else America will cease to exist as a great nation in this world.

Doubt it , because the author frames it "His supporters say............"
The slight of hand is that the reporter knows this guys background.
But no civil tort was committed.

You ain't kidding. Same bunch of hyped-up screamers without any facts. Not that that facts matter to most of them anyway.

Fortunately, there are some sane liberals out there. One sent me a copy of the latest propaganda video recently with a flaming, hysterical email - guy hadn't even checked out the facts. So I gave him the facts with credible links. He apologized and said that he would set his friend who sent him the video (another liberal) straight.

Is there any doubt that president Obama/Clinton won't eventually commute/pardon Al-Arian in the manner as was done for former murderous homegrown terrorists Hearst, Ayers and Dorhn by Presidents Carter and Clinton?

I think not.

Sami Al Arian has been a big problem since the early '90s. I lived in Tampa and had a friend who was a prof at USF. Everyone in the USF administration knew what he was up to, but didn't want to face him. This was waaaay before 9-11. He and his Hesbo friend had their little "think tank" to hide behind. I hope he rots in jail.
On that happy note, Shabbat Shalom and Chag Sameach my Lizardoid friends! This is my last quick pass at LGF before Passover descends.

This is being produced for foreign consumption.

Arthur Sulzberger:

Arthur Sulzberger - Given the constant erosion of the printed press, do you see the New York Times still being printed in five years?

"I really don't know whether we'll be printing the Times in five years, and you know what? I don't care, either," he says. He's looking at how best to manage the transition from print to Internet.

"Internet is a wonderful place to be and we're leading there," he adds. The Times has doubled its online readership, and now has 1.1 million subscribing to the print edition - and 1.5 million readers online, each day.

The New York Times is on a journey, Sulzberger says, and its end will be the day the company decides to stop printing the paper. That will be the end of the transition.

It's a long journey, and there will be bumps in the road, says the man at the driving wheel: but he doesn't see a black void ahead.

Asked if local papers have a future, Sulzberger points out that the New York Times is not a local paper: it's a national one based in New York, and has more readers outside the city than in it.

Make that: more readers outside the country than in it.

Why isn't the FBI rolling up these subversive scumbags like they did the Commies back in the 1950's? Don't we still have rules about enemies foreign and domestic?
