And Now for Some Nick Cave

Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 4:01:29 pm PDT

Some people think Nick Cave is kind of creepy; this is one of his less creepy moments. Some great industrial guitar noises in the mix.

Is that Blixa Bargeld on the guitar? I once saw Blixa play clarinet at an Einstruzende Neubauten show. Some jerk poured beer on him and he just smiled and bowed. That's a good sport. He could have had FM Einheit bludgeoned the guy with one of the many things they used for instruments.

Nick has always had a great voice, unlike Blixa's which I like in a different way.

Marine Vets Give Code Pink a Taste of Their Own Medicine
Sat, Apr 19, 2008 at 3:56 pm

For over a year, the radical group Code Pink has been protesting in front of the Marine Corps recruiting office in Berkeley. Today, April 19, a group of Marine Corps veterans turned the tables and protested in front of Code Pink’s recruiting center just a few miles away in the adjacent town of Albany.

The protest just concluded an hour ago -- one of my quickest reports ever!

I've said it before, and I'll say it until the dem Convention in Denver.
We're all being duped by this Hillary / Obama "fight". In the end, Hillary will be the nominee, and she will pick Obama as her running mate. WHY?
2 reasons
FIRST. She'll do it in the name of "PARTY UNITY", "proving" that she can mend fences. Most of this flap has been over the ethnic vote. While she's out courting the Hispanic vote, Obama has been "taking" the black vote from her. This will now put both minority votes back in her camp.
SECOND. This "fight" that they are having will "PROVE" that Obama is now battle tested. That disways the charge that will come from thr repubs that he is too inexperienced to be on the ticket
/ off my soapbox now

Got the new CD last week. Love "More News From Nowhere" and "Night of the Lotus Eaters." "Albert Goes West" has a Sisters of Mercy sound to it. "We Call Upon The Author" continues his career long theme of his take on religion...and that's putting it mildly.

Took my wife to see him at the Wiltern in LA a few years back and she fell asleep during "Stagger Lee" much to the amusement and astonishment of those around us. Nick relaxes my wife even while he's singing about murder and mayhem. In fact, she routinely listens to "Murder Ballads" while getting a massage. I on the other hand make sure my guns are locked up tight.

You may be right about the end result, but I think the fight is very real. If the Dems had intended all along to put Obama in as VP, the MSM would have been silent about Obama's negatives. The fact that ABC, a Hillary outpost, publicized the Wright tapes and actually had tough questions for Obama in the PA debate shows they're playing for keeps. Obama's lack of experience is not nearly as big a negative as all the dirty laundry Hillary's shills are hanging out.
It would be a very silly trade-off....and they're not that dumb.
I do agree that the Clinton/O'bama ticket would be the Dems' strongest. She won't have any choice about it, in my view. (The only way O won't be her VP is if he himself declines.) On the other hand, if he wins the nomination, Hillary is toast.

Here's what even worse....

The survey was commissioned to mark the 40th anniversary of Enoch Powell's infamous "rivers of blood" speech, in which he described the indigenous population's "sense of alarm and resentment" over immigration.

Speaking of his foreboding, he said: "Like the Roman, I seem to see the river Tiber foaming with blood."
....
Five months ago, a Tory candidate in Birmingham, Nigel Hastilow, was forced to step down by David Cameron for saying Powell was right that uncontrolled immigration would change Britain irrevocably.

However, the BBC poll finds many people share that view.

This is the tricky problem of what we do here. Enoch Powel was a first class racist dickhead who happened to be right about uncontrolled immigration. The difference is that Enoch was just worried about preserving British culture and jobs. Bits today are worried about getting blown up.

It's sorta like Fjordman and Pat Buchanan -- they both occasionally get things terrifically right, but do you reallly want to take the rest with it when other sources can be found?

Another example: Everyone's talking up Bridgette Bardot's trial right now, but she also happens to be married to a Le Pen supporter.... What they are doing is wrong vs individual rights, but I am not carrying the story or rushing to her defense.

I've been a Nick Cave fan for 15 years or so. He's covered quite a lot of ground in that time, and matured and changed. His music often has a depth that is hard to work down through, and you do have to pay attention to the lyrics.

And that is Blixa Bargeld. He's been a "Bad Seed" for as long as I can remember.

After his explanation for why he no longer wears a flag pin,
presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama was forced to explain why he doesn't follow protocol when the National Anthem is played.

According to the United States Code, Title 36, Chapter 10, Sec. 171, During rendition of the national anthem when the flag is displayed, all present except those in uniform are expected to stand at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart.

"As I've said about the flag pin, I don't want to be perceived as taking sides,"Obama said. "There are a lot of people in the world to whom the American flag is a symbol of oppression. And the anthem itself conveys a war-like message. You know, the bombs bursting in air and all. It should be swapped for something less
parochial and less bellicose. I like the song 'I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing.' If that were our anthem, then I might salute it."

Report: Iran's president says oil prices too low

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran's hard-line president declared that crude oil prices, now above $115 a barrel, are too low, state media reported Saturday.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told an oil and gas exhibition in Tehran on Friday that he thought the commodity still had to "discover its real value," according to the Web site of Iran's state-run television.

[...]

Ahmadinejad accused Western industrialized nations of "selfishness" in their quest for cheaper oil.

"When they get hold of oil, they assume that oil is a free commodity and belongs to them and has wrongly been placed in other territories. ... This is the spirit of selfishness and arrogance," Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying.

I was just thinking the same thing. This is good news for the BNP, VB, et al. Bardot is suspect too, you're right to be cautious. The real question in all this is what happens next. Well- I put this in the spinoffs awhile back, but the UK has started a new immigration points system. They are trying, and I think this is a good start.

I eventually had to have my mom take over payments for me. I finally paid her back this year.

that sounds like a normal experience KT. i want someone to find these people from the audience and have them prove they are paying 23.5% (that's what she said one of them said).

FNC is showing the hilldebeast right now. she is talking about student loans. she and people in the audience are saying they have student loans at 22-29% interest. and, she's implying that they are paying interest while in school.

what say you lizard students and friends and relatives of students?

Come on they just gave Pallys half a billion interest free for mortgage's, should balance it out?

re: #99 Sharmuta

But by the end of 2008, every graduate with good English, on £40,000 or the local equivalent, will potentially have enough points to seek work in the UK.

It's a start but it's still not addressing the problem of Islam. The Glasgow bombers would have all fit the criteria quite nicely. The 7/7 bombers were already citizens and the guy they're investigating now with the bomb factory was a revert. It's not just about immigration, it's really about Islam. The Brits are very tolerant people. They really don't care about people speaking different languages, eating different foods or dressing differently. They aren't even very concerned with immigrants taking their jobs. They are worried about getting blown up on their way to work.

re: #82 VegasRick

I just got an e-mail with the following info. Can this be true?

BTW - 1) this news came from a satirical conservative site - so it ain't true and 2) The part about Obama not covering his heart IS TRUE:

and here's the video:

Mind you, listening to the strangulated cat rendition of the national anthem, everyone on that podium did well not to cover their ears YUCK!

It reminded me of Enrico Palazzo's masterful performance in the Naked Gun:

I don't know- maybe they should pass some incitement to violence laws and arrest and prosecute people like radical imams calling for jihad.
