GREEN EGGS AND HAM
By Dr. Seuss

I am Sam
I am Sam
Sam I am

That Sam-I-am!
Than Sam-I-am!
I do not like
that Sam-I-am!

Do you like
green eggs and ham?

I do not like them,
Sam-I-am.
I do not like
green eggs and ham.

Would you like them
here or there?

I would not like them
here or there.
I would not like them
anywhere.
I do not like
green eggs and ham.
I do not like them,
Sam-I-am.

Would you like them
in a house?
Would you like them
with a mouse?

I do not like them
in a house.
I do not like them
with a mouse.
I do not like them
here or there.
I do not like them
anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Would you eat them
in a box?
Would you eat them
with a fox?

Not in a box.
Not with a fox.
Not in a house.
Not with a mouse.
I would not eat them here or there.
I would not eat them anywhere.
I would not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Would you? Could you?
In a car?
Eat them! Eat them!
Here they are.

I would not,
could not,
in a car.

You may like them.
You will see.
You may like them
in a tree!

I would not, could not in a tree.
Not in a car! You let me be.

I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I do not like them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere.
I do not like green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

A train! A train!
A train! A train!
Could you, would you,
on a train?

Not on a train! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! Sam! Let me be!

I would not, could not, in a box.
I could not, would not, with a fox.
I will not eat them with a mouse.
I will not eat them in a house.
I will not eat them here or there.
I will not eat them anywhere.
I do not eat green eggs and ham.
I do not like them, Sam-I-am.

Say!
In the dark?
Here in the dark!
Would you, could you, in the dark?

I would not, could not,
in the dark.

Would you, could you, in the rain?

I would not, could not,
in the rain.
Not in the dark. Not on a train.
Not in a car. Not in a tree.
I do not like them, Sam, you see.
Not in a house. Not in a box.
Not with a mouse. Not with a fox.
I will not eat them here or there.
I do not like them anywhere!

You do not like
green eggs and ham?

I do not
like them,
Sam-I-am.

Could you, would you,
with a goat?

I would not,
could not,
with a goat!

Would you, could you,
on a boat?

I could not, would not, on a boat.
I will not, will not, with a goat.
I will not eat them in the rain.
I will not eat them on a train.
Not in the dark! Not in a tree!
Not in a car! You let me be!
I do not like them in a box.
I do not like them with a fox.
I will not eat them in a house.
I do not like them with a mouse.
I do not like them here or there.
I do not like them ANYWHERE!

I do not like
green eggs
and ham!

I do not like them,
Sam-I-am.

You do not like them.
So you say.
Try them! Try them!
And you may.
Try them and you may, I say.

Sam!
If you will let me be,
I will try them.
You will see.

Say!
I like green eggs and ham!
I do! I like them, Sam-I-am!
And I would eat them in a boat.
And I would eat them with a goat...

And I will eat them in the rain.
And in the dark. And on a train.
And in a car. And in a tree.
They are so good, so good, you see!

So I will eat them in a box.
And I will eat them with a fox.
And I will eat them in a house.
And I will eat them with a mouse.
And I will eat them here and there.
Say! I will eat them ANYWHERE!

I do so like
green eggs and ham!
Thank you!
Thank you,
Sam-I-am!

1 cup of grits, 4 cups of water, 1/2 tsp of salt, cook until grits are done.

Add one roll of garlic cheese, one stick of oleo or butter, two cups of grated cheese, and two beaten eggs. Bake at 350 until consistency of your choosing.

I've got a correction and mea culpa from the Stein thread, it'd be disingenuous to confess in a thread nobody's reading, so I'm posting it here. I stated that 80% of scientists were religious, but really it was something I read in an article about early physicists, the hard-science peers of Darwin. Killian Bundy (ht) caught me out on that one since the ratio today is much different.

Here's more relevant and current data, which presents some interesting conundrums in itself:

Scientists are less religious than the general population, a new study shows, but the reason has little to do with their study of science or academic pressures.
The findings challenge notions that science is responsible for a lack of faith among researchers, indicating that household upbringing carries the biggest weight in determining religiousness.
"Our study data do not strongly support the idea that scientists simply drop their religious identities upon professional training, due to an inherent conflict between science and faith, or to institutional pressure to conform," said Elaine Howard Ecklund, a sociologist at the University at Buffalo and co-author of the study.
"It is important to understand this, because we face religious-scientific controversies over stem-cell research and evolution,” Ecklund said today.
Detailed in the latest issue of the journal Social Problems, the study is based on a survey of 1,646 scientists at 21 elite research universities and in-depth interviews with 271 of the scientists. Specifically, the survey contacted researchers specializing in physics, chemistry, biology, sociology, economics, political science, psychology and other fields.
Ecklund said nearly 75 percent of the subjects responded, which she said is extremely high for a faculty survey.
So why are scientists less religious? The data indicate that being raised in a religious home is the best predictor of how religious someone will be—scientist or member of the general population.
For general population information, Ecklund used data from the 1998 and 2004 General Social Survey (GSS), which is a national survey conducted by the National Opinion Research Center at the University of Chicago. Ecklund then compared the data to the scientists’ set, which was modeled after the GSS.
Among the study’s findings:
52 percent of scientists surveyed said they had no religious affiliation, compared with only 14 percent of the general population.
Of the religious scientists, however, 15 percent identified themselves as Jewish compared to 2 percent of the religious general population.
14 percent of the general population described themselves as "evangelical" or "fundamentalist.” Less than 2 percent of scientists, however, identified themselves as either of these.
Curiously, younger scientists were more likely to believe in God and attend religious services than older scientists.

It sounds like a certain, non-typical, category of people decided to go into science. Hmmm. I wonder if non-religious upbringing tended to have something to do with the career decision/s.

I don't like eggs. Really. Seriously. Just never have. Never will. They're fine cooked into, well, almost anything. But just eggs....yucky.

/now you know for sure I'm not typical! LOL

Try organic eggs. You won't be disappointed. The taste is dramatically different from the mass produced variety.

I like over easy, and try to lay the unbroken yolk on a piece of whole wheat toast and munch the whole thing.

Or, in an omelet made from dinner leftovers; typically salmon and a bit of that lemon-caper butter sauce and either asparagus, portobella mushrooms or smashed-up, grilled brussel sprouts.

Sometimes there's brie.

Speaking of GOOD EGGS!

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Canada's minister of veterans affairs has presented an award to a Spokane man who is Canada's last surviving veteran of World War I.

John Babcock received a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation from Greg Thompson at a ceremony Saturday in Spokane.

Thompson called the 107-year-old an "ambassador for all those who served in the First World War," adding that veterans are critical to the remembrance and understanding of that period in history.

Babcock, a native of Kingston, Ont., joined the Canadian Expeditionary Force at the age of 15.

He was soon deployed to England, but was too young to serve on the front lines and never saw active service.

The Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation is presented to individuals who have contributed to the care and well-being of veterans and to the remembrance of their contributions.

Trinity officials declined to comment. The church's national office said it is "customary and appropriate in many Christian denominations, including the United Church of Christ . . . to offer housing provisions for retiring clergy" after years of service.

Right. Because the clergy, having devoted their most productive years to God and flock, instead of financial gain, may not have enough retirement cash to buy ... a monster McMansion.

For the record, portobellas - nice, big, flat ones for grillin' have a more meaty texture to them. You pretty much have to cut them with a knife. I let them marinate for a couple hours before throwing them on the grill, bottom-up to retain the marinade, which reduces while grilling.

You could eat one on a bun with some lettuce, tomato, mustard & mayo.

I think I just planned my meal tomorrow night.

I am surprised you even made it up to the flight-deck! I was rated as ejection seat specialist but spent most of my duty as plane captain, carrying lots of tie down chains across flight decks. Exciting and I worked with a bunch of great guys. For someone not interested in higher education, it was good choice but I was glad to get out after six years....

Sorry but I cannot support Obama. I don't think he has been honest about much of his past. From his hate-mongering pastor to his socialist wife, shady real estate deals (Rezco), black panther ties etc. etc. etc.

The more I learn, the worse he looks. Although he is a formidable speaker with prepared material I find his message to be nothing but empty rhetoric. Obama is at best an empty suit; at worst, a pure communist/socialist who hates the American way of life.

Thanks but no thanks

Oh, fer cryin' out loud...

They DO have a different texture, and I have eaten them voluntarily from time to time, but I wouldn't go out of my way for one either. I cook them for hubby, though....

As of about six months ago, the word I heard was that Newt could not run in 2008 because of his affiliation and finances with his organization, American Solutions. I had never heard of roasting asparagus - it was great. Broccoli sounds great too - do you do it the same as the asparagus ?

You should try brussel sprouts on the grill.

In heavy foil, throw fresh brussel sprouts together with olive oil, garlic and a squeeze of lemon & a pinch of salt & pepper. Wrap it up loosely and poke large holes in the foil to allow the smoke from your wood chips to get in there. Wood chips are a must.

Set them straight above the hot coals and let them cook, making certain that they get brown or darker. Move to the side when cooking your entree, but keep near the heat.

I've found that a goodly browning of them takes out the bitterness that sometimes accompanies brussel sprouts.

I had never heard of roasting asparagus - it was great. Broccoli sounds great too - do you do it the same as the asparagus ?

Pretty much.

Cut the broccoli into *pretty* spears - about 1 1/2 to 2 inches across at the head and trim the stems. Put in a bowl, drizzle with good olive oil, sprinkle with salt to taste, add some crushed garlic (I like a LOT, but use just one small clove if you don't), and a pinch of red pepper flakes. They are quite hot, so use to your taste.

Toss to coat the broccoli, spread in a single layer on a baking sheet, and roast in a 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes, until the top edges are caramelized and brown and the stems are tender.

I use a garlic press to get very small bits of garlic, and a grinder to get tiny bits of red pepper. If you prefer your veggies more *well done*, lower the heat to 375 and roast for 25-30 minutes.

Cheese apples:

Two cans of sliced apples packed in water, not apple pie filling, 2 sticks of butter softened, 1 and half cups of sugar, 1 lb of shredded velveeta, 1 and 1/2 cups of self-rising flour. Cream butter and sugar, add flour and cheese. This will be very stiff. Drain apples and add apples to flour mixture. Pour in three qt greased casserole. Sprinkle with cinnamon. Bake at 350 for 30 minutes.

Got assigned "plane guard" during an alpha strike, sat in shack at the end of the runway with a flaregun and lights to signal a warning to anyone coming in "wheels up". Here's another one. A little labor intensive, but SO worth it. These are mandatory on my Thanksgiving table now...

Clean sprouts and cut in half. Cut into fine ribbons (like shredding cabbage for slaw, but with a knife). In a large, deep skillet, melt 1 tbsp butter and tbsp olive oil over med-low heat. Add shredded sprouts and cook slowly, turning often, until they soften and turn golden brown. This will take 30-45 minutes, depending on quantity of sprouts.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste. Squirt fresh lime juice over, then toss and serve. The fresh lime makes an amazing difference in the finished dish, but the slow caramelizing makes the sprouts tenter and sweet.

I would like to bring up a topic no one seems to be talking about much.... the rising gas prices! The silence is deafening on this issue from politicians, the news, etc. When do we all start running around in a state of panic?! $5/gallon? 6$/gallon? or more?

Not much most of us can do about besides pay up. There is a lot our country can do about the issue but the environmentalists have blocked any effort to expand oil production. GA power announced it will be building two new nuclear power plants with newly designed and safer reactors. Green power is not the answer. High power density requires large scale facilities unacceptable to the greens...

Chicken. It had some help with the egg, you know. I think it's called a rooster nowadays? (if we're talking about viable eggs, that is. Otherwise, just the chicken.)

Agreed. Just another example...Last week, I saw that a planned windmill farm outside of Pittsburgh was put on hold because of the Indiana bat. Apparantly, it's an endangered species and those windmills will certainly somehow make them extinct. If their sonar isn't able to detect and avoid a large slowly rotating object, Darwin might argue they're not fit to continue as a species?

Well, the rooster's another chicken, technically. So, Pop Rooster and Ma Chicken got together and well... they made Mr. Rooster. :)
Now, did Pop and Ma have scales or feathers? They're still chickens to me!

That egg looks like it was cooked at Sambos. Anyone remember that restaurant chain?

Great restaurants, excellent pancakes and stuff, then someone cried RACIST.

There was one just a mile from me. They had the BEST hashbrowns, scrambled eggs and pancakes.
Then, as you said, someone cried RACIST and they were gone.

I have to say gas at $3.40 sounds pretty damn good,

Massachusetts is pretty close. Believe me!

Rhode Island is bad off too and we don't have the tax base that Taxachusetts or Fraudofornia have. Our Governor is a republican and the legislature is dhimmie - you can predict how this will come out. Gov tries to cut and the dhimmies will not cut - they want to tax more fu#$ them! We are already in the 5th worst tax climate in the country - they want to buck for first? G-Damned idiots.
