Justice Scalia defends Bush v. Gore ruling

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Justice Antonin Scalia, in an interview to be shown on Sunday, defended the U.S. Supreme Court ruling's that gave George W. Bush the presidency and said he was not trying to impose his personal views on abortion.

Scalia repeated his earlier statement that people should "get over" the court's ruling in 2000 that halted Florida's vote recount, giving the presidential election to Republican Bush over Democrat Al Gore.

Excuse me, but didn't it halt like the THIRD recount?

Taliban bitten by a snake in the grass

The spectacular blowing up on March 20 of 40 gas tankers at Torkham - the border crossing in Khyber Agency into Afghanistan's Nangarhar province - sent shock waves through the North Atlantic Treaty Organization-led (NATO) coalition. So much so that it made a deal for some supplies to transit through Russia, a much more arduous route.

The Torkham success was followed by a number of smaller attacks, and the Taliban's plan appeared to be going better than they could have expected.

Then came this week's incident in which the Taliban seized two members of the World Food Program (WFP) in Khyber Agency, and it became obvious the Taliban had been betrayed, and all for the princely sum of about US$150,000.

Their Khyber dreams are now in tatters.

You know the have to put it in the terms they expect to hear. You, me and everyone else here knows that the SCOTUS did not "give" the presidency to W. But, the left are like little children (I always picture a 3-year old with a runny nose and dirty face) and they must be appeased with their daily dose of BDS.

Besides that , the quote is from Reuters, what do you expect, the truth, or rational reporting?

The US went to war against Iraq because Iraq flagrantly and continuously defied the terms of the cease-fire agreement of Gulf War 1 in 1991.

We enforced the agreement.

re: #10 Ben Hur

The comments over at the Politico were completely unhinged. Scalia was quoted as saying Algore initiated the court action (which is true, in the Florida courts). Some nut was hyperventilating that eeeevil Buuuuush had actually gone to the courts first. Actually, he just asked the Supreme Court to review it, basically moving it from the state court to the federal court. Also, as Scalia pointed out, it was a 7-2 decision. Not exactly controversial, except in the fever swamps.

NEW YORK - Three detectives were acquitted Friday in the 50-shot killing of an unarmed groom-to-be on his wedding day, a case that put the NYPD at the center of another dispute involving allegations of excessive firepower.

Scores of police officers surrounded the courthouse to guard against potential chaos, and as news of the verdict spread, many in the crowd began weeping. Others were enraged, swearing and screaming "Murderers! Murderers!" or "KKK!"

My observation....

The Dems just stay constantly pissed! EVERTHING just torks them off. Except for when they are raising taxes, dissing the troops, or holding up needed legislation and exerting their majority powers, can anyone tell me what makes them happy?

Now they are all pissed because their primary election is all screwed up. Last year they wanted to play hard ball with Michigan and Florida and now they see that isn't gonna work out when millions of voters in FL and MI are left out of the convention and their votes don't count and it all might backfire on them. They have a candidate that they are beginning to realize can't win the general election. A typlical Dem goat roaping!

I'm a Floridian and I'll be damned if I will vote for another Democrat again. I'm tired of them manipulating the Florida vote. Recounts, Gore was robbed etc. Just sick of them.

I just saw that on the news its so sad. There has not been an attack there in 50 years.

Actually from the media event, the shark expert said there was a floating body off a pier in 1994, but they were unable to determine if the missing leg was the COD or postmortem.

72 WrathofG-d  Fri, Apr 25, 2008 2:32:21pm

Olmert is offering 1/2 Jerusalem, the Golan, has already given away all of Gaza, has allowed the PLO armored vehicles, has trained their police force, has turned over numerous cities in Judea/Samaria to PLO control, and is offering to practically go back to the 1967 armistice line (with Jordan) in Judea / Samaria (West Bank)....yet they still complain that "Negotiations must fulfill Palestinian hopes." (alluding that we don't have peace because they don't).

So...this begs the question...if a state on the 1967 armistice lines in Judea/Samaria, and Gaza, and full autonomy does not "fulfill the hopes" of the Phakestinians.....what exactly are they expecting to achieve?

I have some ideas.....

The Old Grey Lady is being put down for distemper. NYT about to fire over 30 Journalists. Failed takeover bid puts jobs on the line after NYT advertising revenue plummets.

I wonder if they have any idea that it's their ideology that's bringing it down or are they going to remain blind and blame the internet. I'd bet the farm that the ones being fired will be moderates or conservative lleaning journalists.

Do they have 30 of them?!?

Why did the US invade Iraq? Was it because of the viloations of the no fly zone , links to Al Qaeda and other terroist orginasations, a WMD program or for oil?

Please provide some sources that I can look up for myself

We've been at war since 1991. The Clinton administration made regime change in Iraq a national policy. Every intelligence agency, foreign and domestic, said that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. After 9/11, we could no longer afford to wait for Saddam Hussein to comply with UN resolutions.

Plus....they have oil.

Oh, and Frank the dachshund (well, dachsie/pit mix) is firmly convinced he is a Mighty Protector. He started barking when he was outside a bit ago, so I went to check. I'm really pleased with the server's performance this morning, by the way -- at one point when several major blogs linked to the Obama-ElHady story, we had over 8,000 people online, and there was no visible effect on page loading speed.

Those recent server tuning tweaks have really taken a load off the long-suffering hamsters. Some of them are actually starting to gain weight.

(And yes, I'm using the word "fascist" very deliberately; when you advocate a vast expansion of police powers, concentration camps, and mass deportations, those are the tools of fascism.)

Well, here is the annual import oil numbers, from Iraq into the US:
[Link: tonto.eia.doe.gov...]

By the late 90's you can see that oil exports to the US had recovered somewhat from Gulf War I. Since then the actual oil imported into the US has not increased and in some years decreased.

Thus, so far, if indeed the goal of invasion was to directly increase the amount of oil flowing from Iraq to the US, we could say the invasion has been a failure.

When our pond started to get over populated, we took the surplus to a local fish store. They were happy to have them. I didn't ask if they were going to become sales or food. Yes, there is a twinge of guilt there but, I have yet to find fish birth control on the market.

When they breed it means you are doing the right things with your pond (if that is any consolation).

That's on tomorrow's agenda, actually, thanks to my landlady/neighbor's suggestion. I just hope that if they want them, they have some way to transport that many, 'cause Mr. Empire would never agree to several containers of fish and water in the station wagon! And believe me, if I could've found fish birth control, I'd have been using it from the second year I had 'em. The durn things multiply like pennies!

Well, yeah ... and the descendants of my original 7 goldfish have populated a number of local ponds, and are still quite prolific!

Well I finally get some first hand news and it's old news by the time I get home from work. We were working on the beach this morning at the time of the shark attack. Last week a buddy of mine said that a 2 foot baby white cut right through a line up of surfers just up the beach at Swamis, we told him he was crazy at the time. But it washed up on the beach dead a day later and nobody filed a report or called Sea World that we know of to investigate. It may have set off some alarms for others. We just don't have a real problem with them, mostly it's the dolphins that scare you when they surf the waves with you, kinda cool after you realize it's them.
My condolences to the family.

I've got a new name for the Obama fanatics, and that's "obombers". Mr Ayers is included in this, along with the good Reverend's verbal bombs. Hillary! is being called Karl Rove in drag, and the obombers are convinced that Hillary! is paid for by John McCain's war chest to clear the way for her to run in 2012 if she will bring down Obama. It's such amusement. How did the RNC work this? It's yet another touch down from the super secret RNC black book written by Lee Atwater and Karl Rove circa 1994.
