88 Shiplord Kirel  Sat, Apr 26, 2008 5:56:41pm

I swear this is true:

Back in the early 70s I had a nightmare so vivid that it has stayed with me all these many years. Since I rarely remember dreams at all, this is extraordinary in and of itself.

I dreamed I was in Vietnam (bad enough right there).
We were about to set out into the boonies when some intel types showed up with a huge ostrich on a stout leash. The bird was about 12 feet tall and wore an elaborate harness with, honest, ammo pouches and a huge canteen. It turned toward me and I reflexively jumped back in fright. Unlike normal ostriches it had fangs and a mouthful of sharp teeth.
The intel guys said it was an extra special top-secret new breed and they were evaluating it as a possible replacement for tracker dogs. We duly set off on patrol with the giant ostrich and its spooky handlers in tow.
We hadn't gone far when there was a burst of AK fire and a VC burst from the bushes right in front of us and ran. The ostrich handler yelled something and released the creature. It bounded after the VC, caught him in its beak, and yanked his skin off in one motion. Much as I disliked old Charlie, I was shocked and horrified. The handler looked very pleased and starting taking photographs.

I woke up at that point.

Lolcat site hiring; spelling skillz optional

- "I can haz dream Job? My rezumez! let me showz u thm"

That's the subject line of a cover letter sent by a job applicant to I Can Has Cheezburger, one of the premier sites for so-called Lolcat pictures.

Don't think the letter will be rejected out of hand — bad spelling is no obstacle to a job in Lolcat world. It may even be an asset.

Lolcats became an Internet craze last year. A typical example shows a picture of a fat and hopeful cat accompanied by a caption in a baby-talk-like dialect known as Lolspeak: "I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER?"

Apparently, looking at Lolcats all day is an appealing job. Ben Huh, founder of the site and chief executive of Seattle-based Pet Holdings Inc., has received 250 applications since the job was posted on Monday under the headline "Kittehs Want Moar Workerhumans."

"I got a stack of resumes that I can't even go through," Huh said. "You know how they say, 'Spell everything correctly because the people reading your resume will toss it out otherwise?' Well, we can't even do that. We won't knock you out for spelling.... The traditional resume screening methods don't apply here."

The winning applicant will join three other people who moderate ICHC and a few related Pet Holdings sites (think dogs with funny captions). A big part of the job will be selecting from the 7,000 submissions the company receives every day of captioned photos, plus 2,000 uncaptioned ones.

Cat ownership is not required, just "a great sense of humor, a deep understanding and love of the Internets and a strong work ethic."

Anyone qualified? ;)

Tired Barack Obama resorts to aggression

He seems tired, brittle and more aggressive, and some of his appealing hope and charisma have been dispensed with.

Five days after losing to Hillary Clinton in the Pennsylvania primary, Barack Obama has taken off the gloves in his battle to win the American presidency - and in so doing has left critics wondering whether he is not just another conventional politician grubbing for votes.

/turning point?

198 Sol Roth  Sat, Apr 26, 2008 6:32:04pm

re: #88 Shiplord Kirel

That's some dark shit man. Try and correlate it with something that was happening in your life at that time to extract some meaning.

My weird dreams tend to be science fictiony ones.... like one dream I had when I was a kid that was set in the Classic Trek era (this was before even the movies had come along, nevermind the later Trek shows, so Classic Trek was ALL there was) and had to do with a starbase or some such thing that was located somewhere underwater, and there was a particular, disused room in there where part of the floor was open out into the water... and there was this sea-creature thing that was able to reach up into the place and grab people from out of there and pull them down under the water with it if they happened to be in a corridor near that room. Instant death. So, people would just occasionally disappear out of this starbase, and no one there could figure out just what was really going on.

Oh yeah, and the dream had a very horror-movie feel to it.

You have to have it fresh. Any kind of frozen is awful. I get fresh ostrich steaks from a nearby ostrich farm and they're really tasty.

Expect a fatwa from Clarence Birdseye anytime now.

And yes, that's an Emu

If the Nazi is still breathing, damn straight.

We seriously have to cure Nazis of the habit of breathing.

I'm open to suggestions.

I guess I need to learn gibberish all over again.

I thought the first part was "still horny", which really gives the whole thing very different perspective.........

It's an emu. Australia's national bird.

Does this mean the lizard is being replaced?

I know it's an emu, folks. But 'lolemu' just doesn't have the same ring to it.

All it needs to go along with it is a picture of Billy White captioned "HALP" or "It eatz me!"

Kirel, perhaps you got the same inspiration as Michael Crichton did, only he turned it into Jurassic Park, changed the Ostrich into a velociraptor and changed a government conspiracy into a corporate conspiracy.
No submissions, in your dream were you wearing a blue dress? Just asking how far things went between you and Bill. Perhaps the dream meant that Bill was a heavy weight on your psyche? Or that you saw eye to eye on him in politics (politics making strange bedfellows)?

As for the lolstrich, is there some Obamanation unconscious racism going on here. We have a black ostrich/emu, which have the reputation for cowardice and hiding from unpleasant events. We have 'coincidentally?' an African American candidate who is hiding from Hillary, and is gaining a reputation as a coward, in both international and domestic affairs.
So is the Board trying to link the two together, like that 'racist' North Carolina ad?
