Rev. Wright Speaks to NAACP

Sun, Apr 27, 2008 at 4:44:26 pm PDT

Fox News is showing the speech of Reverend Jeremiah Wright to the NAACP right now, and the introduction is so insanely over the top it’s almost unbelievable...

“Must Jeremiah bear the cross alone?”

UPDATE at 4/27/08 4:49:23 pm:

They’re giving Wright a wild standing ovation...

He claims he's been crucified, is that a trump on a race card? Or what? THe Jeebus Card?

- Holy crap - this is just the introduction?

He better hurry up and get said what he wants to say, 'cause I think he might explode before he gets to the main event then

7 OldLineTexan  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:46:57pm

Which cross?

The 10 million dollar line of credit, or the big house in a fancy neighborhood?

Or perhaps it's the direct phone line to Barack Hssein Obama.

If those are "crosses", sign me up.

11 DesertSage  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:48:30pm

This guy speaking now is scary enough.

12 unrealizedviewpoint  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:48:31pm

Did he just compare the Rev Wright to Jesus?

13 Charles  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:48:34pm

I guarantee Wright is going to keep it toned down.

14 Charles  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:48:51pm

He's getting a wild standing ovation.

17 Rain Patriot  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:49:39pm

Oh, that wasn't him yet. I was just listening. At first I thought he was going Bob Dole on us with the third-person speaking.

Was there punctuation in that?

Maybe it's meant to make him appear cool-headed and dignified by comparison.

18 Charles  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:50:04pm

He won't say anything controversial.

19 Rageman  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:50:04pm

I wouldn't be so sure Charles, he has nothing to lose and based on his prior interview, he doesn't seem to care much about Obama. Time will tell.

22 Rain Patriot  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:52:03pm

That was seriously intense. I feel like I need to turn the TV off and put on something calmer and less abrasive to give my ears a break

24 Charles  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:52:38pm

I love how Fox runs a huge yellow and black alert banner, scrolling in two different directions, the whole time he's speaking.

Fair and balanced!

30 onepistoffyid  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:54:15pm

"The NAACP is non-partisan"

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

"ALL races"

32 Mr. E. Train  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:55:04pm

And so a new national race pimp is born. Im sure Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are secretly mad at the compitition.

33 tunnelrat  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:55:37pm

Wow! I did not realize how bad the "honkies" have given this poor man the shaft. He is such a victim!

34 JoshB  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:56:01pm

He's ripping on suburban Detroit/Oakland County Executive L Brooks Patterson. Here's what Patterson said: "His remarks that I have seen on television are divisive, do not unite the black and white communities and drive a wedge. We'll stay tuned and hope for the best."

35 mbruce  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:56:10pm

I certainly hope there are some cooler heads in the Black Community, between this guy and Sharpton, they are heading down a dangerous road.

36 offendi  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:56:17pm

If Obama cannot win the Presidency just from the African-Amercian vote I would suggest the good Reverend has just sealed his election fate.

Somewhat ironic if Obama joined the church to get some street cred as being black-enough in order to get elected to an office in the first place, no?

37 Charles  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:56:21pm

He's now giving a mocking "apology."

Are you sure Charles? I've seen no evidence that he can restrain himself. Seems to be a past master and opening his mouth and inserting his foot.

39 Rain Patriot  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:56:55pm

Should I feel bad for hoping Hillary can stay in the race just to see what this becomes like by the time the Convention rolls around?

51 jetpilot1101  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 4:59:35pm

Can anyone tell me why this man is speaking at an NAACP dinner? I mean after all the damage he has done, why would an organization that clearly wants to get African Americans in prominent positions cater to a man who has quite possibly single handedly sunk Obama's campaign? It makes no sense to me.

The NAACP was once a civil-rights organization. It's now nothing more than a place for like-minded liberal blacks to belong to so they can point fingers at everyone else and blame them (usually white people) for the predicament a lot of blacks find themselves in, rather than looking in the mirror and seeing the true cause of their miserable lives, which is simply their making poor choices, over and over and over, and expecting the results to different.

Special schools just for black kids because they learn differently? I remember those schools. They were extremely common in the segregated south of the pre-Civil Rights era. Came complete with Whites Only rest rooms and drinking fountains too.

What really concerns me is that the "packaging" of these divisive messages has gotten much slicker over time. Kind of like a microbial agent mutating over time, adapting to counter-agents until finally, there are no more counter-agents effective against it, and it can spread entirely unchecked.

I remain hopeful however, that folks stay focused on the message and don't get wrapped up in the messenger. Given our currently divided body politic however, it seems to me that the "blue" 1/2 of us have already been snowed.

“By sinking to a level that he specifically said he’d avoid, John McCain has broken his word to the American people and rendered hollow his promise of a respectful campaign. With each passing day, John McCain acts more and more like someone who’s spent twenty-six years learning the divisive, distracting tactics of Washington. That’s not the change that the American people are looking for,” Sevugnan said.

Not so, o respected granny. Many's the time this old amphibian (then but a tadpole) pulled off a semester's worth of study in one or two coffee-soaked all-nighters. But he did get better grades in grad school, when he actually studied...

Was it calculus, chemistry or physics? (Bet not.)

Correct. It was computability theory. From the Papadimitriou book. Also x86 architecture and assembly, which was open-book, so I pretty much wrote my own index in the fly leaf, extra-tiny. General architecture, generally got studied for the night before each test. Physics I did from what I remembered from high school, calc is always work so no way around studying, and chemistry and I have never gotten along.

What can I say? As I said, I wised up for grad school.

Unfortunately, Rev. Wright is saying what millions of others think. As a guy that grew up in the 1970's when the dream of one of Rev. Wright heroes that his children would be judged by the content of their character rather than the color of their skin really started to become a reality, it makes me sad about that fact...

The Left does not discriminate. If nothing is bad (except for Conservatives) then there is nothing to be sorry for, nothing to be embarrassed about, nothing to apologize for.

The only exception is when they seem to be taking a Conservative position.

Its why Bill didnt step down after his affair became public knowledge. Most Conservatives are burdened with a sense of morals, ethics and honor and so it seemed axiomatic that a public figure that had shamed himself, his family and his office in such a manor would quit, slink off to a corner and hide his face.

A 'progressive' has nothing to be ashamed of, so long as they are doing the good work of liberal politics.

I watched the whole thing....Wright managed to insult and I am sure, piss off 75% of the American population, including the "stuck on stupid" media friends. The racial divide that was waning over the last 40 years has been re-instituted thanks to Rev. Wright and the Obama campaign. In this speech, I was stunned by the mocking and demeaning of White's. Obama is going to now, officially, be toast. Hill wins by default. If you thought racism was dying, I see new life being breathed into it. Jeremiah Wright has managed to reinforce the victimization of the African-American people and I see this as very, very bad juju for our society. This was very enlightening, I am certain, for many in my generation who came of age in the 60's & 70's and believed that racism had no place in our society. I see a huge divide coming down the road and it could be ugly. The racist black culture has been exposed and it is disturbing.

515 godfrey  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 5:52:44pm

If people clap on one and three, and others on two and four, you get simple alternation. One and three would be trochaic rhythm (ONE two THREE four, ONE two THREE four). The other would be iambic (one TWO three FOUR, one TWO three FOUR). So on this point, Mr. Wright is simply idiotic.

Miles Davis, however, did make an interesting generalization once that white players tend to come in late on three. That's a drag on the rhythm, and something to guard against. Of course, it's just a generalization. Listen to Sinatra for example: his rhythm is superb, and his entrances are frequently pushing the beat, giving the whole thing a lot of verve.

So let's end this stupid "white people can't clap" nonsense, shall we?

Oh, and Mr. Wright is a jackass.

You all know this is part of the Obama campaign's master plan right?

After months of Wright, Ayers and other assorted loose nuts being the topic du jour, the GOP nominee will have less time to point out that Obama's policies are left-wing-nutjob-esqe. Less time to attack, less time to point out differences.

In the end the media will forget to ask Obama some tough questions (look what happens when he stumbles through capital gains tax issues...BTW who is the guy in this race with a poor grasp of economics?) and then the media will be able to say "all the attacks on Obama are really about other issues...not Obama himself".

Game. Set. Match.

Though here's a question for those of you who better know US law than myself. If the situation in Chicago is so bad as to require the arming of the police with military grade weaponry, a really bad idea personally speaking, why not declare martial law instead? I know the motivations of the military and police are different, I'm reasonably well informed as to why one should not be asked to do the job of the other. I've argued the point of their separation before, so I don't need explanations of that. The exact question is: Why is the situation bad enough for military weapons in police hands, but not the military itself?

Children have varied learning styles. However, I can't agree with Rev Wright's view that in general African American children use a right brained "storytelling" learning style while European American children use a more left brained analytic style. Individual differences yes, but the idea of general racial differences in learning styles seems wrong. He seemed to dismiss ADD as a learning disability. I believe that Attention Deficit Disorder is a real diagnosis. I do believe that it is over diagnosed and many children are on Ritalin who probably don't need it.

Speaking as an instructional designer, what wright said was wrong. Learning styles are NOT culturally or racially based. People learn differently. Visually, kinetically, socially, or other ways, and it is my job to create materials for every style so people learn. I NEVER design to a racial or social group. I have never heard such a thing in any of my trade magazines, or any where. Language, maybe.

Shouldn't they be members of the NRA, which marched and lobbied to preserve Second Amendment Rights as a right not to be denied by Democrat lawmakers to African -Americans so that they could protect themselves against the KKK terrorist assaults?

How on Earth do Obama and Wright justify putting themselves, of their own free will, under the political authority of former KKK officer Robert Byrd? Senator Filibuster against the Civil Rights Act?

Why are they more comfortable with the Democrats, the Party of Jim Crow and segregation, and not the Republicans which was the Party that fought all that?

it's really a bad unsavory embarrassing situation. and yet the left is NOT embarrassed. what has happened to civilized society?

The goal of the Left's set-up phase we find ourselves in is simply to remove embarrassment and shame from society. If previously amoral behavior is no longer shameful, then the Leftists in charge can now define right and wrong as they see fit. When Leftists gain control the concept of some higher, uncontrollable power, or G-D will no longer be an anathema to them, because that possibility will simply be outlawed. Religion is Kryptonite to the Left.

Nothing ever to be embarrassed about or ashamed of if God doesn't exist, right?

The next Left phase which has started in some small ways but will certainly increase, will be the confrontation phase.

About that language thang.

Our kids went to schools in AFrica. Sitting in classes with African, and European and Lebanese kids.
AFrican kids came to school with two languages, their mother tongue (tribal) language, plus the national language, in AFrica that often meant the colonial language, English or French, which is preserved 'cause it's very useful if Africans want to work in international careers.
In West AFrican, French-curriculum schools, African kids had their maternal tongues, (like Susu or Youba or Hausa) French, PLUS electives - Latin and often German or Arabic. In Kenya, Kenyan students have their maternal tongue, PLUS English and Swahili as their dual national languages, PLUS the school electives like Latin or German or Spanish or Arabic, depending on what the school offered. Poor kids who can't afford the better schools still have to make their way on the street with two or three languages, just to get around.
Real Africans do not stumble around talking like their mouths are full of mush. Their kids shake hands in greeting, are polite, Africans respect their elders and they work hard.

Does THAT help people fully comprehend what a grotesque crippling of African-American youth it would be to continue to push the fraud of lazy-mouth ebonics? Does THAT help people understand how EVIL it is for Jeremiah Wright to push this? Does THAT expose what a horrible vision for African-Americans Wright really has? How is anyone is supposed to get a JOB if he can't speak properly, can't deal with people and is completely uneducated? Stand there and snarl it's someone else's fault? What's Obama's excuse for beinf part of this? He's a model of what it takes to get ahead, well spoken, well educated, poised ... yet his wife tells blacks to not strive to do what she and her husband did.

Now we have people like the lovely and talented Alicia Keys, who seems to be carrying hate like that for no reason as apparent as Miles'.

Montel and Baltimore deserve each other.

It was Baltimore city alone that delivered the US Senate seat to a white Democrat, out of the hands of the Balck Republican candidate Michael Steele. Steele led the entire state, county by county by a comfortable margin all day long. After the close of polls, the results from Baltimore rolled in, closing the gap, then to a tie, then a relentless one-sided wave of votes to the Democrat candidate. Majority Black Baltimore handed the Senate seat to a white Democrat representing the KKK Party over the head of a Black candidate representing the Anti-slavery Party.

Go figure.

Having looked it up, it would seem so. A sensible Law in my opinion, you do not use the military for police actions, they're fundamentally different mindsets. The military train to remove threats, the police train to resolve situations. Inaccurate due to generalisation, but without an essay it should suffice. Anyway, I digress...

Having established that the military cannot act, I still question the wisdom of giving military weapons to police, especially non-SWAT. After the police standard sidearm was altered from a revolver to a semi-automatic, the number of hits landing in a situation remained roughly constant, but the number of bullets fired increased substantially. Now it's assault rifles as damn-close-to-standard-issue? I guess we can be thankful that America is so fond of the M16/M4, rather than the AK series. The ArmaLites at least trend towards the rifle part of assault rifle. Apologies to any law enforcement who are reading, but I think providing the regular police with heavier and heavier firepower is a bad idea.

So, if the white oppressor folks are so bad, how come Wright and Obama are in the Democrat Party? Shouldn't they be in the Anti-Slavery, pro-Second Amendment Rights Party? Shouldn't they be members of the NRA, which marched and lobbied to preserve Second Amendment Rights as a right not to be denied by Democrat lawmakers to African -Americans so that they could protect themselves against the KKK terrorist assaults?

How on Earth do Obama and Wright justify putting themselves, of their own free will, under the political authority of former KKK officer Robert Byrd? Senator Filibuster against the Civil Rights Act?

Why are they more comfortable with the Democrats, the Party of Jim Crow and segregation, and not the Republicans which was the Party that fought all that?

Perhaps Wright can be truer to his ideals with a third party run for Obama.

re: #545 Elydo

I'm more worried for any bystanders.

I am very worried, as my son and one of my daughter's in law, and my only son in law work in NYC.

I can remember the Sharpton and Jackson 'demonstrations' riots all too vividly, and that is exactly what they want to see again.

From Dec. '03:

[...]“If the Jews want to get it on, tell them to pin their yarmulkes back and come over to my house."

Those were the immortal words of the Rev. Al Sharpton during the Crown Heights crisis in New York City in 1991. A car driven by a Hasidic Jew had run over a black child in the Brooklyn neighborhood, prompting black-Jewish tensions that eventually spilled over into antisemitic riots. Sharpton's contribution to civic peace was statements like the above, together with such classic anti-Jewish smears as: "Talk about how Oppenheimer in South Africa sends diamonds straight to Tel Aviv and deals with the diamond merchants right here in Crown Heights."

Oh, the statesmanship. This is the man who stands with eight other presidential candidates every two weeks or so to opine to a national audience about the future of the republic. With Sharpton, the dumbing down of presidential candidates is complete. In 1992, Pat Buchanan ran for president after having a cable-TV show. In 2000, Alan Keyes did Buchanan one better — he ran for president to get a cable TV show (it appeared briefly on MSNBC). Sharpton is running on the Keyes model, with his scheduled Saturday Night Live guest-hosting gig this weekend showing some results.

Fringe candidates can have their place. Ralph Nader added something to the 2000 election. But Sharpton has no memorable policy proposals, no distinctive ideological position, nothing but himself and his resume.

He wants to be remembered as the guy with the funny lines rather than a racial provocateur who smeared an innocent man during the Tawana Brawley hoax and built his New York notoriety on race hatred. "We will not stand by and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business," Sharpton said in a 1995 Harlem controversy over a Jewish storeowner who had a conflict with a black rival neighbor. A protester in that case eventually shot his way through the store and burned the place down, killing eight people.

The other Sharpton priority is supplanting Jesse Jackson. Sharpton threw his sharpest elbow of the campaign after it was reported that Jesse Jackson's son, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., planned to endorse Howard Dean. Sharpton promptly, and ridiculously, denounced Dean for his "anti-black agenda." Why does Sharpton hate Jackson? The same reason Ford hates Chrysler. He's the competition.

Sharpton and Jackson are dueling over who will be the nation's best-paid race hustler, a lucrative occupation. For example: According to the Wall Street Journal, the owners of the Word Network, which is devoted to running black church services, pay Sharpton and Jackson roughly $10,000 per protest to demonstrate at the headquarters of cable operators that don't yet carry Word. A Sharpton-led protest in March 2002 prompted a St. Louis operator to begin carrying the cable network.

The cynicism of the Sharpton campaign is an open book. Typically, presidential candidates stay in cheap accommodations. Sharpton's campaign, in contrast, is an excuse to live high. According to the New York Post, Sharpton has stayed at the nation's swankest hotels, including a visit at the Four Seasons in Los Angeles, which soaked up five percent of the cash Sharpton had raised in the third-quarter fundraising period. When appearing at black churches, Sharpton collects a "love offering" — that goes directly into his own pocket.
[...]

Please read it all, and pray for those who are in NYC.

624 SkippyMoment  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 7:47:54pm

I don't know if anyone has made the following observations, but here's my take on the whole Rev. Wright NAACP speech:
1. It is not the volume nor oratory style that has been objected to, it is what he said.
2. While it is possible to take someone's comments out of context to twist or distort the meaning or position the speaker is taking, this does not, and cannot be applied to the Reverend's statements. There is no context distortion for the statements, "G-- damn the United States," or "The U.S. of KKK America," or to his assertion that the government created AIDS to affect genocide on black people, and so many more of his comments.
3. For every good point he made, he reversed any possitive influence he might have had by thumbing his nose and poking his finger in the eyes of his detractors.
4. Not only black children suffer from ADD and ADHD, or have alternative learning styles. Stop making excuses.
5. If a white preacher made any of his comments, he'd have been tarred, feathered, and run out of town on a rail. If we are ever going to get beyond "racial" divides, then it has to stop in the black communities as well as in white communities; this also applies to brown, yellow, religious or other communities as well. We live in an imperfect world filled with imperfect people. It is noble to strive for this, but it is likely never to happen until the human race as a whole changes from within.
6. Reverend Wright's assertions that he's been running for Jesus these many years caused me to react more than anything else he said. This man is not preaching the gospel of Christ, he's preaching social doctrine, and more particularly and based on the churches statement of faith that was posted for so long on their website, he preaches a black Jesus and afro-centric doctrine. NONE of this is in the bible, nor is it consistent with Jesus' teachings. I suspect if it were possible to go back to the churches in the 30's, 40's, 50's and even through to the 60's where white preachers were firmly ensconsed in the Klam were behind the pulpits, you'd find the same messages being taught. It was wrong then, and it is wrong now.

I don't think this is going to help Obama. I think Rev. Wright is doing far more damage to Obama's chances to win in the general election. The talking heads and the reports I've heard so far have completely missed it, but I think the people how have yet to vote and who are on the fence won't. In any case, it will all be interesting to watch in the coming weeks.

625 pocomoco  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 7:47:56pm

AHA! Now we know who the real Messiah is. Obama, pack your bags Jeremiah is in town and wowing them at the NAACP.

By their reaction to Wright, there can no longer any doubt about what blacks really think of America as it is an affirmation of what he has been preaching. “GOD DAMN AMERICA”.

As the NAACP regularly condemns ‘the man’ at their camp meetings for their trouble and strife and his constant suppression by keeping them from becoming successful, they sit there in their ‘fine’ with $60,000 white Cadillacs in the parking lot.

The NAACP is made up of ‘those who live to be offended’, and who will never assimilate into America’s melting pot. They are separatists, pure and simple.

One has to wonder why they are staying here when they have an entire continent where they go and strive for the success they are looking for without worrying about ‘the man’s’ suppression. SOUNDS LIKE A PLAN TO ME!

MONEY!

Well, sell-out to their definition of The MAN was sort of lurking there ... but that means they of their own volition gave up their rights as free men to return to what is not much more than a form of slavery. Self-inflicted no less.
It's really no shame to be a slave from conquest, it's got a long history, spoils of war sort of thing and it was better than being slaughtered, and not a single people, white, black or brown has escaped it, sometime in the past, and for those born into it, it wasn't their fault, so fair enough, but THIS? Ugh! After so many brave people fought and died, black and white to get rid of slavery in this country?

Well, it's sheep from the goats time. I do think there are plenty of Black pastors out there who are appalled at all this, but the media isn't interested in them. The Black American protest this weekend against Planned Parenthood didn't get much press, did it? But AL Sharpton is getting ALL the media he covets to spew his rabble-rousing anarchy.

630 JabbaTheTutt  Sun, Apr 27, 2008 8:22:57pm

OK, if blacks learn differently, when did Dr Jeremiah Wright learn this? What has he done about this? Where's his school for black kids? What's their success rate? What's their academic level? Why should whites be forced to pay for this? If schools are so horrible for Blacks and other living things, when, where and how has Dr J Wright gone after the public schools, the teachers unions, the Democratic Party for harming Black kids?

Has Dr J Wright kept this insight a secret? Has he publicly spoken about his neurological discoveries? Has he applied these discoveries to help the Black Community or has he withheld the Magical Education Cure from Black Kids? Do we have to wait for his book to find out the solution?

Perhaps, Dr J Wright will unveil all tomorrow at the National Press Club? I'll be following this miracle man.

Actually, I've heard more intelligent conversations about race among drunks in bars talking about their conspiracy theories. I think, what's going to get Whites is the double standard. For 20 years now or longer, Whites have been fired for making racist or even non-racist remarks. Just think Don Imus as the most recent national case, but there have been bazillions that no one has ever heard about. We have Rev Dr J Wright up there mocking how White people talk, clap, and even worship Jesus. Will anything happen to him?

If Republicans would actually like to win elections, they ought to come out for the total repeal of affirmative action, diversity training, quotas and sexual harassment. Sexual harassment laws were not enforced against President Bill Clinton and civil rights laws have been revealed as simply weapons against traditional White males. That's it. No more discrimination by government. We've had enough, they've done enough damage.

Thank Barack Hussein Obama. Believe you me, I FEEEEEEELLLL the change coming.

I have volunteered in the Detroit public schools for several years and have first hand observations from several different elementary schools about what I believe to be "wrong" with the education system therein. Because it really is a mess. Case in point.. The school I go to weekly now has had graffiti painted on the entrance door that says "FUCK NBC" and it has been there for two months. Apparently either no one else finds that offensive enough to have a janitor spend ten minutes painting over it. Jeesh.

If I had to point out a culprit, it would be the teachers and the principals who seem so absorbed in their own self-pity about being stuck in a dump that they forgot why they are there in the first place.

Its definitely not the kids. They have always been by and large very respectful and interested in learning. Thats why I keep going back.

This is absolutely true of Africans I work with. I've had two north-African American ladies as co-workers (both have advanced and changed departments) who were focused, well-spoken, intelligent, and you could always count on them. I currently have a co-worker in my group who is from Kenya. She is delightful, nice, sunny, and again, totally focused and hard-working. I've never had a co-worker from Africa who was other than exceptional.

I also have met several African immigrants who deliver my groceries. I always ask them where they are from and talk a bit about how glad I am that they decided to come here to live. They are amazingly strong, friendly, and the farthest from "slacker" that you can get. They also are ambitious for advancement - many want to open their own businesses.

re: #632 Mich-again

My aunt spent her life in the public schools; first as a kindergarden teacher, then into remedial reading for middle schoolers. She eventually became a principal, and then the superintendent of her school system; a large, racially integrated system in a semi-urban county on the east coast.

She used to love it... I can remember her giving me beginner readers as a small child, and I remember the way her eyes lit up talking about her job. By the time the late 70's rolled around, she no longer lit up. In fact, she wouldn't talk about her job at all.

A few months ago, I got to spend some time with her at her home, no other family around, and we got a good chance to talk. I asked her about her former jobs, and she could barely speak of it. The decay she witnessed from her start in the early 60's to her retirement in the mid 90's was too overwhelming.

She placed the blame squarely on Teacher's Colleges and the hard left, anti-learning, and frankly sometimes bizarre agendas her new teachers had installed in them during their training. She no longer believes the education of children is even a part of the curriculum in colleges, and the faddish nature of the latest teaching trends bear her out. A new theory is posited every few years to replace the last theory, and each is less coherent than what came before.

I think it is all a shell game being played against the parents and public, a ruse designed to hide an ugly truth -- the old fashioned rote method of learning, as far from perfect as it was, worked better than anything that followed, but for ideological reasons the teaching/social welfare complex is dead set against it, so they shuffle test scores, teaching methods, and grading standards in a grand charade to avoid a return to proven methods.

He's a racist, but he gets a free pass.

What determines whether a racist gets a free pass or is rightfully vilified as a racist?

Wright was issued his free pass because of two factors

1) He is black. The rich white liberals that ultimately issue the free passes, believe that black racism is an unfortunate trauma caused by white racism that happened in the past. In short - white guilt.

2) He is a "liberal". Sure, liberal has new connotations these days, but he supports Obama and hates America therefore, even if he wasn't black, he'd still get the free pass.

Either one of these factors ensures Wright doesn't get called on his racism. Combined together, Wright becomes a victim of anyone that does bring it up.
