"Good Morning, Captain
Won't you come on out and play?
Wake up the sunshine and share this friendly day.
Good Morning, Captain,
It's A smiling song we sing
'Cause we're happy to see you
and the good times that you bring.
Hey, good morning, hello, how do you do?
Good Morning, Captain (repeated twice)
Good Morning,
Wake up the sunshine
and share this friendly day."

Make a Bingo card with buzzwords or key terms or annoying verbal tics instead of numbers; check them off as you hear them. Resist the urge to shout "Bingo" when you get five in a row, but feel a sense of accomplishment.

Goddess Lucius Opnionre: #26 Beseduh

Welcome.

Here's a little advice from the worst student in the history of studenting...decide that the lecture has merit before you get to it, prepare to learn something from it.

Then, if it is still boring, (or ill prepared, etc) go ahead log-in to LGF, or play BS Bingo, or just let the mind wander. But, I (the worst student in the history of studenting) could listen to a 40 minute lecture about paint drying.

Especially if it were given by Lucius or the Goddess.

But, aren't I right? Boring lectures are ones we figure will be boring before we get there. If we decide that the teacher has something to say, it is easy to get fascinated. That is the job of the student; to get fascinated.

True, often enough. Though I must say when I'm over tired and haven't had a chance to prepare effectively, I can start to mumble and drift off.

When I was in college and not connecting with the lecture I'd doodle. I still do that at faculty meetings.

Good morning Lizards! It's 7:04EST, and that means it's time for some Thomas Hardy.

The Darkling Thrush

I leant upon a coppice gate
When Frost was spectre-gray,
And Winter’s dregs made desolate
The weakening eye of day.
The tangled bine-stems scored the sky
Like strings of broken lyres,
And all mankind that haunted nigh
Had sought their household fires.

The land’s sharp features seemed to be
The Century’s corpse outleant,
His crypt the cloudy canopy,
The wind his death-lament.
The ancient pulse of germ and birth
Was shrunken hard and dry,
And every spirit upon earth
Seemed fervourless as I.

At once a voice arose among
The bleak twigs overhead
In a full-hearted evensong
Of joy illimited;
An aged thrush, frail, gaunt, and small,
In blast-beruffled plume,
Had chosen thus to fling his soul
Upon the growing gloom.

So little cause for carolings
Of such ecstatic sound
Was written on terrestrial things
Afar or nigh around,
That I could think there trembled through
His happy good-night air
Some blessed Hope, whereof he knew
And I was unaware

Thomas Hardy

More Fallout From Inaction On North Korea Nukes
Ten North Koreans were killed in an IAF air strike on a Syria installation September, Bloomberg reported Monday, quoting an NHK report that cited unidentified South Korean intelligence officials.
The report quoted a Japanese broadcaster who said that they had been assisting the Syrians in the construction of a nuclear reactor. Several North Korean workers survived the air strike, the report said.

Whenever I think of Rev. Wright, I'm reminded of this:

Chieftain Iffucan of Azcan in caftan
Of tan with henna hackles, halt!

Damned universal cock, as if the sun
Was blackamoor to bear your blazing tail.

Fat! Fat! Fat! Fat! I am the personal.
Your world is you. I am my world.

You ten-foot poet among inchlings. Fat!
Begone! An inchling bristles in these pines,

Bristles, and points their Appalachian tangs,
And fears not portly Azcan nor his hoos.

The gist of it, really.

76 LC LaWedgie  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 4:20:33am

re: #48 Lucius Septimius

You'd lose that argument... the word is "paddle" or shovel, not a pointed stick. Also, according to the Adventure Network, "In the wilderness, the accepted procedure is to carry a small trowel with you so that you can dig a hole. We’re not talking a big hole, just about six or eight inches, where the most effective enzymes for breaking down excrement exist. It’s important to pick a spot where your feces will not become washed into any waterway. The best soils are dry to somewhat moist, preferably with some natural debris covering it (leaves, twigs)."

Oh, it's just for the thrill of asking them where their stick/paddle is. If they don't have one I can say then you don't follow the Bible literally.

Having had to dump in the woods, I am acquainted with the technique, it's just not something folks need to do in the ordinary course of an urban day.

I'll have to go back and look at the wording; I was sure it was stick in the original.

I like McKinney - nobody was better placed in Congress to show how awful the left is. She was like a walking, talking advert for Centrism or Conservatism.

My favorite was definitely Kat Swift - she came across like a hippy parody from South Park or Beavis & Butthead (when you could actually hear what she was saying)

Another Obammmunist fellow traveler

Barack Obama has a thing for Marxists. He befriends them, listens to their counsel, and he even hires them to work in his campaign. And they seem to feel the warmth. President Daniel Ortega of Nicaragua, who led a revolution there in 1979, says Barack Obama's presidential bid is a "revolutionary" phenomenon, and Americans are "laying the foundations for a revolutionary change." A captured computer revealed that an unknown person chatted with Marxist FARC guerillas on Obama's behalf (they believed), stating he would be the next President and US policy towards Columbia would change. Frank Marshall Davis, a dear Obama friend and mentor was as a member of the Communist Party USA. Barack Obama just seems to attract Marxists.

If the people he surrounds himself with are any indication of his core beliefs, a higher capital gains tax to punish the rich, even if it diminishes actual tax revenue, may be only the beginning. Obama's Official campaign blogger, Sam Graham-Felsen, a former writer for the leftist Nation magazine and a contributor to the Socialist Viewpoint, is certainly a believer in class warfare.

The capitalist ruling class of the United States exercises a virtual dictatorship not only over American society, but also over the entire world. This capitalist class rule is the basic cause of the poverty, wars and the degradation of the natural environment.

After being expelled from Socialist Action in 1999, we formed Socialist Workers Organization in an attempt to carry on the project of building a nucleus of a revolutionary party true to the historic teachings and program of Marx, Engels, Lenin and Trotsky.

More bad news for the New York Times.

Moody's downgrades New York Times to 'Baa3'

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Moody's Investors Service on Tuesday downgraded the New York Times Co.'s senior unsecured ratings to Baa3 from Baa1 and its commercial paper rating to Prime-3 from Prime-2. The move reflects Moody's belief that New York Times' free cash flow and leverage will be significantly weaker in 2008 than previously expected due to a deterioration in newspaper advertising revenue. The Baa3 rating reflects the newspaper's significant global news and information infrastructure that supports high quality content, strong brands, and its position as a leader in prioritizing the national daily news agenda, Moody's said. The rating outlook is stable.

I have a lot of experience in dealing with rating agencies, I have gone through many of these reviews myself. Rating agencies evaluate not only the financial reports, but also the quality of and ability of the senior management at the place. Their opinion is not based on numbers alone.

So when they down grade you (especially 2 steps at once,) not only do they see bad numbers, they also see a senior management team that they believe to be incapable of turning the situation around in the foreseeable future.

Also of note is their outlook of "stable". That means that they have no intention of changing the rating up or down, anytime soon. That tells me that Moody's will need to see a lot of major improvement over a sustained amount of time before they ever consider upgrading this rating.

Good luck with that.

I received a powerpoint at work in my email this morning from a co-worker. It shows in very graphic detail, photos of someone who tried to steal copper cable, so he could sell it for cash. Fortunately for him, the electricity was still on and he was quickly, albeit gruesomely weeded out of the gene pool. It's amazing how much damage high current does to the body.

Heh.

I absolutely guarantee that relatives of this guy will be coming out of the wood work to sue the Dept. of Transportation in that state for "wrongful death". They will claim that the deceased thief would have generated millions for the family and was killed by a malufunction of the electric system. You watch.

No idea. The music used in trailers is seldom also in the movie, because the soundtrack is rarely completed for trailers (particularly the early teasers), which is why you so often hear some of the same music (Hall of the Mountain King?) show up over and over in trailers...

However, it's hard to imagine not using that song somewhere in the movie, even if only over the credits - as long as they go with the original and not a lame cover.

I bet they sue the State claiming that the State had an obligation to take more steps to prevent this guy from being able to try this. They will try the old "attractive nuisance" thing.

Years ago I had a back yard pool. We were out of town on vacation on year. A neighbor figured out we were gone, climbed my fence, broke into my pool area and got hurt swimming in my pool, all without permission of course.

He sued me claiming that I should have taken more steps to keep him from being able to break in and get hurt. My insurance settled with him.

Black theology refuses to accept a God who is not identified totally with the goals of the black community. If God is not for us and against white people, then he is a murderer, and we had better kill him. The task of black theology is to kill Gods who do not belong to the black community ... Black theology will accept only the love of God which participates in the destruction of the white enemy. What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.

This is a frightening speech. I've noticed that he makes numerous claims that he doesn't back up. Our history of racial relations in this country is certainly not pristine, but it is a history that is still evolving. The Rev. Wrights of the world revel in the racism and injustice of the past without recognizing the reality of an America which is constantly seeking improvement. I don't think people like Rev. Wright really want all Americans to live in peace and harmony with each other.

re: #410 rw in san diego

This is a frightening speech. I've noticed that he makes numerous claims that he doesn't back up. Our history of racial relations in this country is certainly not pristine, but it is a history that is still evolving. The Rev. Wrights of the world revel in the racism and injustice of the past without recognizing the reality of an America which is constantly seeking improvement. I don't think people like Rev. Wright really want all Americans to live in peace and harmony with each other.

Nope. He wants revenge.

But you'd never know it listening to these asshats on TV.

Hey Y'all - why don't you have another Million Black Man March on Washington, and I'll lead a TWENTY MILLION White Man March on Washington and let's see who both of our respective political "friends" are, hmmmm?

A MAJOR reason I hate guys like the Racist Rev, Sharpton and Jackson is because they do their very best to keep Black Americans DOWN and dependent on them to speak for Black America.

Wrong Jesus. Christ himself said that in later times there would come many claiming to speak in his name or even claiming to be him, but believers were to ignore them. Messages that differ from what Christ taught are not true messages. Any time that Christ himself reappears following his ascension, every single eye in the world will see him at the same time. Anything less isn't the real Jesus.

Obama's credibillity is shot either way. NOBODY, no matter how stupid or dense, can sit and listen to this 52 weeks a year for twenty years - 1004 times! - and not know exactly what the man is saying and what he believes. There are black and white ones as well. However, the blue has to do with how they are printed.

However, blueprints use a process that uses ammonia to develop the image. Here's the Wiki on it.

There are black and white ones as well. However, the blue has to do with how they are printed.

However, blueprints use a process that uses ammonia to develop the image. Here's the Wiki on it.

With today's technology, there isn't a need for prints to be made that way.

Heck, with today's technology, until you hit the job site, there isn't a need for hard copies.

Until you involve a local government... then you need multiple copies, each stamped and submitted along with Form 23409-AA-32, signed in triplicate, with a notary, on the second monday of the third month following leap year.

After my trip to Israel, I have changed my mind about gun control. While traveling from the Ramon Crater to Eilat I was uneasy about that stretch through the desert near what I feel is a poorly controlled border. We picked up a hitch hiking Israeli soldier and gave him a lift. His machine gun took away the feeling.

Later when we drove from the Dead Sea to Jerusalem, after an ugly incident of name calling at a roadside stop we foolishly made at a "peace beach", I was very much comforted by the sight of so many Jews packing big and obvious guns, especially the Jew with the Uzi who wondered over to stand near me and the name callers with a "Go ahead make my day" kind of expression. (The Palestinians slithered away.)

I have learned to love the well armed Jew.

I suggest that unless you are unfortunate enough to live in Canada, you consider packing for the possibility of such an event.

OMG! I can't believe I am saying such things. Someone is going to revoke my Canadian citizenship.

That is something that has worried me quite some little bit since they stopped immunizing people - and more recently. The only people with known small pox immunity to some degree are nearly all past child bearing age. Back in the time when virtually everyone was exposed to smallpox, it had a known death rate of about 60%. Even if modern medicine could halve that - and I am not at all sure they could - that would still be horrendous. 1 in 3.

I was in Pittsburgh yesterday, went to the Zoo with friends and my 19 year old Duquesne Student/daughter.

Plant the bigger ones about 1 foot apart, the smaller (yellow) 10 inches. The tops should be 1 - 1/2 inches below the surface.

Will do. Did you have fun at the zoo?

An armed "peace beach" is a polite "peace beach".

Interesting note:

Wright does not need protection. He lives in IL, which is incredibly restrictive on firearms. (In fact, one of two states that does not have a concealed carry program)

Some parts of IL even ban the existance of firearms.

Such strict gun control is done with the belief that if you lower the number of guns, you lower crime.

Ergo, much of IL must be crime free. No one would hurt Wright because they lack the guns to do so.

no?

re: #662 Kosh's Shadow

After
my trip to Israel, I have changed my mind about gun control. While
traveling from the Ramon Crater to Eilat I was uneasy about that
stretch through the desert near what I feel is a poorly controlled
border. We picked up a hitch hiking Israeli soldier and gave him a
lift. His machine gun took away the feeling.

Later when we drove from the Dead Sea to Jerusalem, after an ugly
incident of name calling at a roadside stop we foolishly made at a
"peace beach", I was very much comforted by the sight of so many Jews
packing big and obvious guns, especially the Jew with the Uzi who
wondered over to stand near me and the name callers with a "Go ahead
make my day" kind of expression. (The Palestinians slithered away.)

I have learned to love the well armed Jew.

Try microwave popcorn with no butter or other flavorings. It's good (you have to get used to it, first), and I find it very satisfying. It's pretty filling, too.

I have always found it easier to do without something like chocolate or potato chips entirely than to eat a modified version or "just one." Much easier for me to say to myself that I really don't want that right now, I'll wait till later.

Did you know you can make your own microwave popcorn? Put about two handfuls (scant 1/4 cup) in the bottom of a paper lunch bag, fold the top down 1/2 inch then over twice and nuke as usual. Much better and much, much less expensive.

Lyric to the song embedded in 730

The iron hand
it ain't no match for the iron rod,
The strongest wall will crumble
and fall
to a mighty God.
For all those who have eyes
and all those who have ears
It is only He who can reduce me to tears.
Don't you cry and don't you die and don't you burn
For like a thief in the night, He'll replace wrong with right
When He returns.

Truth is an arrow and the gate is narrow that it passes through,
He unleashed His power at an unknown hour that no one knew.

How long can I listen to the lies of prejudice?
How long can I stay drunk on fear out in the wilderness?

Can I cast it aside, all this loyalty and this pride?
Will I ever learn that there'll be no peace,
that the war won't cease
Until He returns?

Surrender your crown on this blood-stained ground, take off your mask,
He sees your deeds, He knows your needs even before you ask.
How long can you falsify and deny what is real?
How long can you hate yourself for the weakness you conceal?
Of every earthly plan that be known to man, He is unconcerned,
He's got plans of His own to set up His throne
When He returns.

Right, so, I've just been watching Wright's latest speech on Fox. He makes a soundbite about how the people being sent to die for the unjust war blah blah spiel, by people who have never served. It was a lead off from a crack about Wright served for six years but Cheny never did.

After the speech, the newcasters get the usual group of talking heads to analyse the story, democrat republican etc. The democrat makes a point of agreeing with the soundbite about soldiers being sent to die by those who have never served. So, my question is, are democrats no longer in favour of civilian control of the military? Cause that's what their words could be interpreted to mean.

"Kill the police!" by Mark Steyn

In a scrupulously politically correct age, it's not offensive to organize a "Kill the police!" demo or to preach that the government invented Aids in order to perpetrate an African-American genocide. You can pull that stuff and still be part of respectable society, hanging out with presidential candidates and whatnot. What's grotesquely offensive is the chap who's insensitive enough to point out such statements and associations. So the North Carolina Republicans are denounced as "racists" for being so unenlightened as to bring up the subject of the neo-segregationist hater Rev Wright.

The guys who made veggie tales went to the same college as I did.

They were kicked out for not going to chapel enough.

The only reason that the main characters were a tomato and a cucumber is because their 3d program was cheap and couldn't handle more detailed shapes.

Now they're famous.

Washington, PA is in the SW corner of PA, lots of bitter, bible, gun, illegal hating etc there. Plus 4X4 pickups, ATVs and rifles. Bad place for Obamahamas to stage an invasion.

Heh.

My friend up there works for the union. I'm kind of afraid to bring up politics with him nowdays.

I knew him and his wife in college.

They are called
'The Fruit of Islam"

Wright is still NOI
bank on it

And his "just like a son to me" parishioner, Barack Hussein Obama is a taqqiya, (or "covered") Muslim.

Bank on that, too.

All this Barbie talk reminds me of when my daughter put Barbie's clothes on He-Man.

Speaking of, the kiddo and I went down to the supermarket yesterday and as we were waiting to turn we saw crossing the road an individual about six feet tall with a gray beard wearing a black do-rag tied around his head, covered by a straw cowboy hat with a big pink flower in it, wearing Timberland boots and a strapless, floor length sun dress. We were both speechless.

It's an odd thing. I see cars with both "Union Yes!" stickers and "I'm NRA and I Vote!" stickers on them in my area. My guess is that they'll vote Hillary and pro-union as long as the guns are left untouched. I highly doubt folks like that will vote for the blatently anti-gun Obama.

Sometimes it's hard to tell which way some folks will vote.

I understand your dismay. After all, wearing a sun dress before Memorial Day! sheesh (/don't ask how I know this).

I toss a couple of these - stems removed - in a paper bag and nuke away. It's very good and I think tastes just fine.

Catherine Marshall's mother was a teacher in the Appalachian mountains....the tradition there, back then, was that if a newborn infant's opposite hand & foot could be made to touch a certain point, the baby was healthy.......so, many a child died of ruptured innards as the mothers tried to force its happening.....and of course the mothers thought the baby died from not being born healthy.....

No, I live in a little Vermont town. Even something like purple hair here is enough to cause a mild stir among the populace. Now, a few miles down the road in Brattleboro, where those who are too far out for Northampton, MA, and not quite far enough gone for Berkeley all hang out, he would have been a commonplace sight.
