Hey Goddess.

Penultimate day of classes. One class tomorrow and then exams.

10 rawmuse  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:18:05pm

I just had a good workout. I have to run 2 miles in 15 minutes to qualify for a job coming up. It is kicking my butt. I am working on having a little less butt to kick.

11 thelongblogger  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:18:39pm

When all is said and done, what gets said doesn't get done.

12 bosforus  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:18:44pm

Free from the confines of a guilty conscience not allowing talk of b-movies, an open thread.

13 Psaturn  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:19:03pm

Open thread while I got a break at work! Sweet!

14 DesertSage  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:19:41pm

So, what is the hidden meaning behind this open thread?

Hmmmmm.....

15 bosforus  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:20:10pm

Always a fine ambition.

Tonight's going to be my first night of practice in almost two weeks. I'm sooooo going to hurt.

17 Anna  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:20:37pm

I wonder if Parental Guard can be used to keep Wright and Obama out of my house? Worth a shot, though my TV selections will probably drop dramatically.

CHANGE!

No, that's not it. CHANGE means '60's radical Marxism.

19 Dianna  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:21:23pm

The title of the new thread fills me with trepidation.

But I can't resist!

20 HelloDare  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:21:24pm

World's shortest thread.

21 VegasRick  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:21:25pm

Another new thread? Hope my boss is in his office.

Is that what I smell, panicked undergrads. Cursing themselves for not listening to Prof. Septimius' warnings of doom for those who failed to study.

No, that's not it. CHANGE means '60's radical Marxism.

But CHANGE! is necessary if we're to remain a strong and powerful nation!

I actually had some nimrod who has been to class at most five times all term and hasn't turned in anything send me an email saying he wanted to talk about "finishing" the class. He says he didn't come to class because he thought it'd be boring, but now having looked at some of the readings thinks it was probably pretty interesting.

Hokay, dokay.

He wanted to do well, better give him an A or his precious self esteem might get damaged.

It's not a me problem. It's a he problem at this point.

31 nikis-knight  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:33:35pm

You know the comparison I haven't heard anyone make yet? "Rev" Wright and Larry Summers.
Replace black brains and white brains with male brains and female brains, remove the questionable bible interpretation and add a lot more words like "maybe" and "perhaps" and what they were saying (in parts) was pretty similar.
Wright is defended, Summers is toast.
Well, the conclusion is obvious, but I think the comparison is interesting, anyway.

32 Psaturn  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:38:47pm

wow ! a new thread already !

33 Militant-Infidel  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 3:39:42pm

I have a couple of question for the sharp intellects (and not so sharp ones) on LGF:

1) What would it be called if 92% of White voters supported Clinton in the democratic primary?

2) What would it be called if Clinton practiced a religion that espoused White Liberation Theology?

Now consider swapping Clinton with Obama and White with Black. Do you get the same answers?

This is the elephant in the room that nobody wants to acknowledge. The real “Inconvenient Truth” is the fact that racism is rampant, but not where most people are willing to look.

Transnationalists are the scariest of all the people who I'd like to clobber with a cluebat. This is the most hopeful paragraph:

An architect of the White House's earlier policies dismissed Mr. Bellinger's remarks as "pabulum" from a State Department that is too solicitous of international institutions. "It would be a great speech in the first Clinton administration, and probably a great speech in the second Clinton administration," said John Bolton, the former ambassador to the United Nations who, as undersecretary of state, signed the letter repudiating Rome Statute.

...but it goes downhill from there.

37 Fredlike  Mon, Apr 28, 2008 4:01:57pm

I was looking at the Democratic Convention site and came across this gem.

"Pledged delegates are not bound to vote for the candidate they are pledged to at the Convention or on the first ballot. A pledged delegate goes to the Convention with a signed pledge of support for a particular presidential candidate. At the Convention, while it is assumed that delegates will cast their votes for the candidate they are publicly pledged to, it is not required. Under the Delegate Selection Rules, a delegate is asked to “in good conscience reflect the sentiments of those who elected them.” This provision is designed in part to make the Convention a deliberative body".

I did not know that even the pledged delegates can change their vote even on the first ballot. So all the votes in the primaries and caucuses are meaningless and the convention can do anything it wants. I would think it would take a monumental mistake on Barry's part for this to mean anything because the party would be suicidal to pick Hill over Barry without Barry actually withdrawing.

Republicans do bind at least some of the delegates

"Delegates bound: Delegates to the national convention are required to vote for a particular presidential candidate as determined by primary results, caucus results, or individual commitment to a specified candidate in conformity with state party rules or state law. State party rules or state laws determine the number of ballots where the delegates are bound to support a particular candidate. State party rules or state laws may require delegates to be bound to support a particular candidate until the candidate releases his or her delegates".

At the end of the day, it is what it is.
