New DNC Ad Shows US Troops Being Blown Up

Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 8:24:10 am PDT

Howard Dean sent the following email to his mailing list yesterday:

Dear Friend,

John McCain wants to stay in Iraq for 100 years. He’s said it, and it’s on tape.

But his campaign hates that he was caught. They’ve viciously attacked anyone who reminded the American people that he said it, including me. They’ve said that those who reference the 100 years comments are “deliberately misleading voters.”

So we’ve taken John McCain’s own words — video of him saying that 100 years would be “fine with me” — and made a TV ad. There’s no confusion, no distortion, no misleading — it’s John McCain, on tape, for voters to judge on their own.

It’s one of the most powerful political ads I’ve ever seen. It’s devastating — and the McCain campaign will spend the rest of the election trying to fight it.

In addition to the McCain clip, this nasty advertisement features a clip of ... American soldiers being killed by an IED.

Yes, that’s right. The Democratic Party is using images of US troops being attacked by terrorists to make political points against John McCain.

It’s “devastating,” all right. But not to John McCain.

Youtube Video

Those are someone’s husbands, someone’s brothers, someone’s sons that you see being blown up in that video. I wonder how their families would feel about their loved ones being used for political gain in such a callous, unfeeling, cynical way?

UPDATE at 4/29/08 8:40:17 am:

Even more unbelievably, the IED clip comes from Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. It’s at about 1:35 in this trailer: Fahrenheit 9/11 trailers. (Hat tip: MacGregor.)

UPDATE at 4/29/08 9:10:07 am:

And that’s not even the only reason this ad is beyond the pale; the entire ad is based on “a rank falsehood,” according to FactCheck.org:

The DNC’s message portrays McCain as bent on fighting an “endless” war in Iraq.

DNC: We can’t afford four more years with a President who fights an endless war in Iraq. ... On the war, McCain scoffed at Bush’s call to leave troops in Iraq for 50 years, saying “Make it a hundred!”
That of course is a serious distortion of what McCain actually said to a town-hall meeting in New Hampshire back on Jan. 3. His actual words are posted in a video on YouTube. Far from advocating “endless war,” he said the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq would be “fine with me” provided that they’re not being killed or wounded. Here’s the full quote:
McCain, Jan. 3: Make it a hundred. ... We’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me, as long as American, as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. It’s fine with me and I hope it would be fine with you if we maintained a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al Qaeda is training, recruiting and equipping and motivating people every single day.
It should be noted that both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, despite their frequent talk of withdrawing from Iraq, have said repeatedly that they would maintain at least some troops in a combat role in Iraq for some time, possibly their entire term of office.

There’s little doubt that McCain is less eager than either Clinton or Obama to bring troops home without further suppression of insurgent attacks. But it’s a rank falsehood for the DNC to accuse McCain of wanting to wage “endless war” based on his support for a presence in Iraq something like the U.S. role in South Korea.

UPDATE at 4/29/08 9:35:07 am:

Confederate Yankee has still images of the clip: The DNC IED.

UPDATE at 4/29/08 9:48:10 am:

Ace thinks the soldiers in the clip may not have been killed by the blast. I changed the title to “blown up,” since there’s some doubt about whether anyone died in that actual incident.

But this detail is almost completely beside the point. 99.9% of the people who see this ad have no way of knowing that soldiers weren’t killed (if they weren’t). Immediately after the IED clip, the video fades and cuts to the aftermath of a car bomb explosion; it’s very clearly intended to make viewers think soldiers were killed.

And I don’t think it makes it much better if the soldiers were “only” wounded.

UPDATE at 4/29/08 10:04:32 am:

More from Michelle Malkin: Question of the day: Where did the DNC get its IED footage? Update: The answer, partially.

UPDATE at 4/29/08 10:14:28 am:

Here’s the Fahrenheit 9/11 trailer, with the clip included in the DNC ad. It’s at about 1:35 into the video:

I love the big green LGF at the start of this trailer.

They need to show their constituency what happens in war because in actuality they have no f*n clue.

I think their patriotism was lost a long time ago, certainly by the time they threw out Lieberman.

They will welcome their Muslim overlords with open arms, and handshakes, until their hands are chopped off.

93 EE  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 8:43:33am

The Democratic National Committee, by showing US troops being killed, is doing the modern equivalent of what Tokyo Rose did in WWII: demoralizing our troops. They are carrying out an act that is giving aid and comfort to the enemy. They are doing the work of treason.

This shows that the DNC will say and do anything to get their candidate elected.

Howard Dean, who heads the DNC, is a disgrace and should be fired immediately. If he is not fired, then that is a recognition that the Dem party goes along with treason on behalf of scoring some political points. Screamin' Dean is bringing the good name of the Democrat Party into disrepute, not only by its blatant dirty libel in cutting the words that McCain actually said -- he was referring to a long-term stay as we stay in Germany, after the war is won and the casualties stop -- but by showing that it would stoop to treason to embellish a libelous lie against its rival.

This is also what Barack Obama has twice said. Obama has stated the libel that McCain wants America to have 100 years of war in Iraq. He said it twice.

For shame! For shame! Have you no integrity, Howard Dean? At least Obama stopped making that calumny. Now the DNC is picking up the libel and adding treason to it. Dean should be fired ASAP for bringing the Dem party into gutter politics and into treason.

In light of this, last night we reported on the controversial teachings of Democratic candidate Barack Obama's Chicago-based church. Do we really believe that Democrats in general aren't disgusted with Howard Dean and this type of evil crap?

The intense level of Bush hatred in almost all Democrats is distrubing. And this is now spilling over to a hatred of all Republicans. Example. The St Paul city council is helping to organize anti-Republican protests during the RNC convention this summer.

Imagine if the Denver city council consisted entirely of right wingers and they were inviting neo-nazi's in to protest. Finding them places to stay. Setting up portable toliets and water stations for them.....

Keep in mine, when they throw Obama under the bus, we must make sure the American voter has in mind, Nov. 2008

Hildie is the enabler of Howard Dean.
Hildie said, "Obama is ok to be President of the U.S.A.."

And she did not say one word about this sick ass shit before us now.

NEVER FORGET
50 YEARS OF LIES ABOUT AMERICAN FIGHTING MEN,
AND IT DOES NOT STOP.

True - and it goes on in other countries as well.

I'm sick of the hypocrisy of politicians of all parties and the MSM who send our troups to wars, ill-equipped, then wring their hands about same wars - and blame it all on our troups, who for their sacrifices are treated more shabbily than any immigrant.

This video just shows to perfection how their 'minds' really work.

Or gather the few good Democrats and pull off the 70% of Republicans who are trapped inside the silly wage slave lusting Republican Party and start new.

for the R's or D's

Time for the looney left Dhimmicrats to become a fringe party, like the Socialist Worker's Party, and for a new center party of people like McCain, Lieberman, etc., and a conservativer Republican party. I really don't like having only one real choice. Kind of like going to a restaurant and being offered a choice of greaseburgers or week-old rancid grease.

Well, it took a long time to get Europe sorted out. Arguably, from about 1914 (and the tensions and events leading up to the declarations of The War to End All Wars; which in turn set the stage for WWII) through till, um, today. If you mark the start of trouble as the annexation of Bosnia in 1908 (which lead directly to the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914) we've been fighting in Europe, more or less, for 100 years already.

So given the state of society and culture in the ME, I don't think it is outlandish to envision some sort of security presence (e.g. NATO) for something similar in duration.

Given the cost of leaving and returning (watch "Saving Private Ryan") the more prudent course would seem to be to set up a long term relationship with a relatively secular society, pull our resources out of relatively "stable" places (insert favorite abusive "ally" here) and stick out the societal evolution for the long haul.

South Korea has certainly benefited from our "presence" since the "cease-fire", I doubt Iraq, et al, would be worse for wear in 2050 if we still has bases in the area.

The DNC and anti-US extreme left had no problem supporting and encouraging Momma Moonbat using her son's coffin as a soap box, so why would they not hesitate to use a video clip of two other honorable dead as a soapbox?

Guess using F9/11 footage means that fat Mikey will have another several seats of honor in this years Democrat Convention.

Mmm... so let me get this straight...

The terrorists kill our troops in order to get us to retreat and surrender.

The Democrats use the murder of our troops--and now even the images of those murders--in order to accomplish these goals.

So the terrorists help the dems, and the dems use the help.

So can we finally say the Democrats are helping the enemy?

And can we finally start to question their patriotism?

Oh, and for bonus points, the Dems are taking McCain out of context. McCain did not say he wanted 100 years of IED's.

Really, a despicable showing all around. in any sane country, this would drum them out of respectable debate for 100 years.

I can think of some other footage, of two towers being destroyed, that should remind most people of why we need to stay in Iraq until it is stabilized. We can't let Iraq become another base for terrorism, one that could field much more sophisticated attacks.

But if Republicans used that, they'd be attacked by the left, and probably by McCain, too.

218 Pro-Bush Canuck  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 9:13:09am

A bit OT, but nonethelss time for another Pro-Bush Canuck Harrowing Cab Tales(r)

This time it was an Iraqi who has lived in Toronto. The entire conversation (15 minutes) was carried out at high decibel levels. This is apparently how Iraqis converse: via shouting.

However -- and this is a big however -- this man essentially ticked off all of the things that Americans stand for (in his own words) as essential to creating a stable nation in the Middle East. It was amazing to hear this person essentially come the same conclusions as the Founding Fathers of the US.

And to top it all off, he saw no problem integrating Islam with a democratic society. He made lots of noise about the "beards" and how he and everyone else in Iraq HATES them. When I told him that American gunships are hunting and killing the beards, his reaction was that WE (meaning Iraqis) should be able to clean our own house.

You know what, Americans? This may just become one of the great examples of nation-building (assistance) since the post WWII-era.

It is ESSENTIAL to keep leftists out of the power loop, or else Iraq will collapse into chaos. This Iraqi cabn driver had NO DOUBT that an American vacuum would spell disaster.

226 reggie  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 9:14:54am
Even more unbelievably, the IED clip comes from Michael Moore’s Fahrenheit 9/11. It’s at about 1:35 in this trailer: Fahrenheit 9/11 trailers.

I seem to recall assertions around the time of Fahrenheit's release that its opining qualified it to be an in-kind camaign contribution (wasn't it released during the general election?). That was shot down, but I would think Dean just re-opened that door, and widely. Can you imagine how much that would equate to for the RNC?

Does anyone know whether Michael Moore made the video and that's why his video was included. Maybe no coincidence there. Now remember all those DNC poobahs who blasted repubs for using 9/11 footage or attempting to even mention it in their campaigns, for 'politicizing' 9/11. We all knew that when push came to shove they politicize everything. After all the dems came out with the slogan that the personal is political, and you can't get more expansive than that, except if you are John McCain, then nothing is open for political discussion unless the NYSlimes and your opponent give the ok.

Apparently Republicans can't use any footage of terror, OBL, 9/11 (which for some reason is OK to use in a DeNiro Amex advertisement), etc.

If that was a Rep ad, the Dems would be flipping out about scare-mongering and shit as if it doesn't really exist.

I'm just pointing out that I have seen that clip when it first came out, I think on LiveLeak or some other outfit, and IIRC the title included something about lucky soldiers.

Everyone walked away.

If this is true (I'd need more evidence), I'll update. But it's almost completely beside the point. 99.9% of the people who see this ad have no way of knowing that soldiers weren't killed, and it's intended to make them think soldiers WERE killed.

Suppose they were just wounded. Would that make it better?

Idiots indeed.

Remember the predictions of a huge a spike in gas prices due Katrina and Rita? The spike was minimized by ad emergency EO suspending regional gas formulation.

We could average out, and lower gas price for most people by doing it again. CA has high demand and the regional producers are at capacity.

It would be easy, and result in an immediate but small drop in prices.

I don't mind toll roads. Mostly because they tend to be in better condition, with higher speed limits, and fewer other drivers.

Even a per mile charge would make more sense than a per gallon charge.

It isn't "my fair share" of roads and bridges tax because my car gets less mileage than some hippie driving a prius.

On the original story -- the Dems

1) hate our troops
2) hate America
3) are liars
4) are cynical and manipulative
5) are condescending
6) are more concerned with power than right
7) and will use any means fair or foul to achieve it
8) but would have you believe that all of the above, aside from 1 & 2 is really true of Republicans.

Nothing new here -- I'm finding it hard to get outraged any more because they're so damn predictable. And consistent.

In other words, I can understand the perfidy of the paradoxically yclept "democratic" party. What I just cannot fathom is why ordinary, decent, relatively intelligent people around the country cannot or will not see through their cynical, destructive lies?

Yesterday, Governor Dean sent around our second national television ad.

It's one of the most powerful television spots Americans will see this year. It's simple, and it's brutally honest. It rocked the McCain campaign, because they know they'll spend the every day through November dealing with the fallout.

This is the ad the Republican National Committee is working around the clock to stop, even threatening legal action against television stations that air this spot. That's how worried about it they are.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch it now, and send it to everyone you know:

re: #337 Charles

Troops are dying every day. But you don't seem to care. You're only outraged when people publicize this fact.

Troops die every year, whether we're at war or not. During the Clinton years (the years when we should have been fighting Islamofascism) the number of military deaths per year were an average of 221 less than the Bush years. But we did liberate Iraq and Afganistan over the last five years, so that may have something to do with it. But Lefty just doesn't seem to care.

The iraq policy is failing.

Not according to the recent stats.

Be a walter Cronkite.

Lefty doesn't believe in using capital letters for proper pronouns.

Reject our suicidal iraq policy.

Again with the absence of Caps.

Bring our troops home.

The troops don't come home, they get stationed in another part of the world at another duty station. That's the nature of being in the military.

Stop this senseless war in it's tracks.

Contrary to popular belief, nobody wants to be at war in Iraq. But stopping the war precipitously would cause more bloodshed than seeing it through to a conclusion that is beneficial to U.S. interests.

hundreds, if not thousands more troops are going to die if we do not withdraw.

And millions will die if we cut-and-run!

Hundreds, if not thousands of families will be traumatized forever.

Thousands of families are traumatized by drunk divers every year, but I don't see Lefty calling for prohibition on alcohol.

Do the right thing and come out against this pointless war.

That's assuming that the war was "pointless" to begin with. If it was, why did a majority of Democrats vote for it? And don't tell me they were fooled. If the were, they didn't do their due diligence. Those aren't the kind of people I want running our country.

if you do not... don't be surprised if the ghosts and faces of all those brave men and women begin to haunt you in your sleep.

Those faces will only haunt the people who pulled the rug out from under them....the Democrats!

And when you are elderly, I hope you think back to all those men and women who never got a chance to grow old and watch their children, nieces, nephews grow up.

When I'm elderly, I will look back in pride that we had such brave and patriotic young men and women who believed that freedom was worth fighting for.
Looking back, are you proud of the way you spit in the faces of our returning Vietnam vets? Huh?

No, the company dictates that I'm not allowed to have one on me or in my car if my car is on company property, even though I have a concealed carry permit saying I can.

The company policy is based on CA law, as the company is from there.

Oklahoma law says something different so no LEGAL action can be taken against me if I keep my gun in my car, and per state law they can't even fire me for it.

But, any company that WANTS to fire an employee will 'find a reason' if they need to.

466 BabbaZee  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 10:29:18am

Dear BabbaZee

I am writing you from Israel after having an emergency meeting with former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom I have known since he was 26 years old. I was horrified to learn that when President Bush comes to Israel for its 60th Anniversary in May, he has made the decision to mobilize Arab nations to come for a summit on the 17th & 18th of May.

The purpose of this summit is to move forward with the Annapolis Road Map, the plan that will force Israel to give up a large percentage of Judea and Samaria, which they call occupied territories, and divide the Holy City of Jerusalem.

It is extremely humiliating to think this would be America’s way of honoring Israel’s 60th year of prophetic rebirth. Even more outrageous, I saw the document confirming that the plan is to have this finalized by November 12, 2008.

I am asking you to vote and let President Bush know that you oppose him organizing a summit to divide Jerusalem on Israel’s 60th Anniversary. He needs to hear from you loudly and clearly immediately.

Send this to all of your friends and ask them to do the same. God’s words say that I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curse thee.

Your Ambassador to Jerusalem,

Mike Evans

re: #310 American Soldier

I know that. I'm among the very rear-most of the REMFs and I tell myself that all the time.
Line troops (especially spec-ops types like the Kid) see things from a very different perspective, which I respect. I'm not the one getting mortared today or most any other day. The most dangerous things I've faced in the past seven years would be corrupt Louisiana politicians and LEOs.

everybody can't be the point of the spear, someone got to hold the spear and feed the guy holding the spear.

my pops was in both the navy and army, when he was in the navy he was on a air craft carrier (US ENTERPRISE CV-6) when he left the navy at my mothers insistance before he joined the army he was chef petty officer his job was to run the 'mess hall' not sure what they call that in the navy. Every job is important if one fails all the others fail or don't work up to there best, i.e. if the guys have food poisoning they may not do there job well enough and get sunk in a fire fight

After he asked my mom to marry him she wanted him to join the army instead of staying in the navy. Hw as in the army for 20 years but lucky for him never went to korea or viet nam. But we were 3 kilometers from THE DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF GERMANY during the Hungarian revolt the M.P.'S came on our part of the base and told us we had 15 mins to pack one bag and get on the M.P. BUS and go to Bremerhaven to go back to America, We stayed in Bremerhaven for a month and were then sent back to Schwiernfurt. Before they took us to premerhaven we were just as close to the front lines as the GI's. I was elementary school child and this is one of the earliest memories i have. INTERESTING I WOULD SAY. so I know what the feelings of military familes are going through

Yup. I just find it kind of odd that GUNS are banned, but I'm allowed to have a knife up to 4" in blade length.

I'm MUCH more deadly with a knife than with a gun. Guns run out of ammo.

Knives stay sharp for a LONG time. (and even when dull, still work but hurt more)

Not to mention computer monitors, cables, rulers, telephone handsets, chair legs, etc.

The only way he'll have a "press conference" is if he has shills asking him questions he knew about in advance. If Clinton can do it, why not Obama?

540 mattm  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 10:46:20am

As usual, the MSM will cover for the dems and try to weasel them out of the mess they got in. I can not question the Dems patriotism ans I do not see any. Barack "un-known middle name" Obama a wont even wear an American Flag on his Lapel.

Here's the story by Ben Smith at Politico:

Obama is asked about Wright by a woman in Winston-Salem who tells the audience to watch his PBS interview, which will quell their concerns.

"I’m going to be having a big press conference afterward to talk about this Obama says, then refers back to a story the woman told about a mother having to borrow month to get to work.

"This is diverting attention from the first story that you told," Obama says.

You have to read it a couple times... It's not very well written.

Well, Drudge says The Hildebeast will go on O'Reilly tomorrow night, so all of the O'Reilly haters can get ready to curse him for not jumping up and kicking her in the face as soon as she sits down.

Me? I think I'll sit down and watch Hillary get the toughest line of questioning she's likely to get during the whole campaign. Tough, but O'Reilly will not insult her or try to "get" her, as that will just preclude ever getting anyone else like her on the show. I look for her to be treated like Al Sharpton, challenged, but not treated disrespectfully.

Plus, I know the Koskids will be blowing gaskets all over the place. Their heads will pop like corn.

Then O'Reilly will say Hillary came on the show, how about you Obama?

Also, Her actually going on O'Reilly, which she has been loath to do in the past, is a measure of her resolve to win the nomination.

He may be a windbag, but he's the best we have, with a huge audience. I am thankful for him.

You know, I think that there may be a brilliant commercial strategy out there, if McCain and the RNC want it. Yes, we know that lefties piss themselves and start foaming at the mouth at the very mention 9/11 by a Republican, but THIS commercial may be damn near unimpeachable:

- Intro video of the towers standing on a sunny day

- Cut to video of Al Qaeda and Taliban training camps in Afghanistan from before 9/11 (with date stamp, if possible)

- Cut to video of the towers on fire [plane impacts and collapse would be too over the top

- Cut to video of Zawahiri talking about his desire to create an Al Qaeda stronghold in Iraq

- Cut to video of Clinton/Obama (whoever "doesn't lose") talking about withdrawing from Iraq

It gets the point across, and there is little that the Dems could do to call it fear mongering, because it would simply be using historical events, and the words of contemporaries, entirely in context.

The IED video is a couple years old at least. I remember seeing the whole thing and this is what I saw.

The DNC are taking a video of troops who have successfully cordoned off the area around the IED and were moving closer to inspect it from behind the palm tree when it was detonated by remote control by a terrorist. The soldiers then just walked away.

The DNC wants others to believe the soldiers carelessly walked onto the IED and got hurt or killed. They are cold blooded traitors.

I had a speech class in college. 'vocalized pauses' like Um.. were dealt with in a similar way. Each time you said 'um' you lost a point for that speech.

I've noticed that loudmouthed arrogant dinks say 'um' more than anyone else, as they're not wanting anyone else to speak so, while they think of the next bit of drivel to spout, they continue to make a noise so no one can 'interrupt'

It is VERY common among the talking heads of the left.

1. This ad might just have been sent out in order to draw the attention away from Obama's pastor problem.

2. The excuses Dean makes for the ad are even worse than the ad itself. Dean is essentially saying that with the US "occupying" Iraq, it's no wonder that Americans are killed by terrorists. This of course implies that either there is something legitimate in what terrorists do, or else that those Arabs can't be expected to act like sensible human beings. Either way, it's complete BS and very much reminds of Wright's rants about "America's chickens coming home to roost". The most disturbing thing is that this idea seems to be at the core of the Dems' call for withdrawing from Iraq.

As Wright has said: "He (Obama) is a politician and will say what he needs to get elected." Nothing in what I see and hear from BHO says or shows the Revereeeeeeeend Wrong, was wrong in that assessment. Probably the only right thing, wright has said.

Well, I'll hold out on further analysis of Iran's involvement in Iraq before I make any opinions beyond this one, I think we do not need a direct attack in Iran, rather the professionals, moderates, and workers there appear to be want a return to a more secular democracy. I am hoping they can acheive this on their own without stretching the US even more thin, I'd still like to have some national guardsmen at home.

well, when you're saying something that holds no water, using logic that is as strong as a dam made of tissue paper, the one thing you CAN'T do is let someone else engage you.

If you keep making noise so that they can't, if they interrupt you, they look mean and angry and you look like a victim.

This strikes me as so true when understanding most Liberals. This year Liberals across America are going to vote for a Socialist with racist tendencies, and the reason why is because they're children and don't understand the ramifications of their political power. What a shame. Daily Kos Kids, a good portion of the DNC, and activist Progressives are, and I'm sad to say this, children given adult rights only because they've chronologically qualified. What a shame for us all.

McCain should give a speech denouncing this ad

Im not kidding- I think its the only effective way to deal with something this trecherous and evil.

Come right on national TV and call out Dr. Dean- Mr. low back deferment so I can go skiing in Aspen

Call him out for being the greasy, devious dirty liar he is and demand he withdraw the ad.

Say something like "As a former POW, who faced the horrors of war, I find using images of attacks on our brave soldiers to score political points

I dont think thats how McCain rolls, but I think this calls for it

All the McCain camp has to do, is make a commercial showing John McCains exact words, while pointing out how the Democrats take a few words out of context, and turn them into a lie.

Howard Dean is really a kook, I'm glad he's the head of the DNC, as he will surely lead to their ruin.

And yet, the gun control issue, which I hear a few idiot Democrat gun owners say, "it's just a scare tactic by the Republicans", is being fought, on behalf of 100 million law abiding gun owners, by the NRA and conservatives in Washington D.C., and they are the ONLY reason the Democrats haven't gotten all of their kook gun control laws in effect.

The Democrats say they don't want to take away Americans firearms, and yet, there isn't a city, in every state, where those exact Democrats don't have unreasonable gun control legislation being shoved down the throats of Americans, with only the NRA and conservatives standing in their way.

Spit!

Subject: RE: Devastating new Iraq ad

Yesterday, Governor Dean sent around our second national television ad.

It's one of the most powerful television spots Americans will see this year. It's simple, and it's brutally honest. It rocked the McCain campaign, because they know they'll spend the every day through November dealing with the fallout.

This is the ad the Republican National Committee is working around the clock to stop, even threatening legal action against television stations that air this spot. That's how worried about it they are.

If you haven't seen it yet, watch it now, and send it to everyone you know:

[Link: www.democrats.org...]

We can't afford to let-up.

Watch the ad, and make a contribution to help us stay on the air by tomorrow, April 30.

I did a search through this thread, and I don't think it's been mentioned, but Howard Dean blasted McCain for not being able to control the North Carolina GOP enough to get them to pull their ad about Jeremiah Wright.

Here's the DNC press release:

Dean: McCain Needs to Show Real Leadership on North Carolina Ad

Washington, DC - According to reports, the chair of the state Republican Party in North Carolina is planning to move forward with its plans to air its racially divisive campaign ad despite John McCain's emailed complaints. While the McCain campaign made a show of protesting the ad, McCain made no mention of the fact that key officials in the North Carolina GOP are members of McCain's state steering committee and McCain donors.

Nor did he mention the fact that the state chair who is bucking his leadership is a member of the arrangements committee of the Republican National Convention. Given his ties to state Republican leaders, if McCain is serious about making sure this ad never airs, he should have no trouble making it happen. If not, McCain should return their contributions, remove them from his campaign committees, and strip the state chair from her role on the GOP's convention committee.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement calling on McCain to exercise real leadership and pull the plug on this ad:

"This is a test of leadership for John McCain. If he can't pick up the phone and make members of his own party stop airing a television ad he claims to oppose, how can he lead our country through an economic crisis or the war in Iraq? After shifting his positions on gun control, immigration and tax cuts throughout this campaign, McCain should not equivocate on this issue. Making a show of releasing your emails to the press is not leadership. If he is serious, he will get this ad pulled."

671 blangwort  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 7:51:09pm

The sad thing is this: We are rapidly becoming a one party country. If the Dems loose this election, they have only themselves to blame. John McCain is not one of the better representatives of the GOP.

We truly do need a conversation between Right and Left wings in this country. And the Democrat Party is doing nobody any favors with stunts like this latest spewage from Dean. We need bridge builders, like what Newt Gingrich is doing, not BS slinging using bits of Moore's awful trashumentaries.

The Dems are are terrible disarray. They have no moral direction. Without the discussion between an honest left wing view and an honest right wing view, we're doomed to make some terrible mistakes in the future.

I have no idea how the "leaders" of the Democrat Party can look at themselves in the mirror every morning. I'd like to blame this on one a few individuals, but I can't. This malaise was a long time coming and it won't be fixed overnight.

Good Night Lizards...
