Jimmy Carter in the New York Times

Tue, Apr 29, 2008 at 1:35:18 pm PDT

Jimmy Carter just doesn’t know when to stop: Pariah Diplomacy.

He accomplished nothing. Even the Palestinians say he accomplished nothing. Hamas launched an attack the day before his meeting with Meshaal, and mocked him afterward by openly declaring they had no intent to recognize Israel and that any truce would be just a temporary cease fire.

But here’s Jimmy, still spinning away, courtesy of the New York Times. Pathetic.

They would do well to evaluate his association.

33 wanumba  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 1:45:22pm

The most despicable thing of his little jaunt was the letter charade to drag Shalit's parents and family into all this. A lot of all this diplomacy and earnest furrowed brows is all a nothing to most people, something to read and groan and roll eyes about, but to that man's family, it's real and it hurts, bad.
Carter is so self-absorbed, he can't see the wreckage he leaves in his wake.

34 J.S.  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 1:45:38pm

And CNN's Blitzer (the token) is panting and breathless at the very thought of "interviewing" (more like licking the boots) of Carter -- Blitzer is hanging on every word, mesmerized with awe and wonderment...as Blitzer gets the antisemite to discuss HAMAS as just another Christian Pacifist organization.

38 Kragar (Proud to be Kafir)  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 1:48:50pm

As for Carter's "victory" in Nepal;

In May 2003, the Maoists' Central Committee gathered in Rolpa district, one of their "base areas," to ponder the lessons of previous communist revolutions and come up with a game plan that might succeed where others had failed.

One of their main conclusions was that the party should accept multiparty democracy as a revolutionary tool.

"[Their decision] was not triggered by the king's coup, but by a rational introspection undertaken at the plenum held in 2003 regarding the reasons for the setback that the international communist movement suffered in the latter half of the 20th century," wrote P.K. Hormis Tharakan, who until 2007 was chief of the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India's foreign intelligence agency.

The Maoist ideologues decided that if they could make their revolution seem open to democratic challenge, they could prevent counterrevolutionary factions from emerging.
.....................
Election day on April 10 ran relatively smoothly, but the pre-poll campaigning period was dogged by violence and intimidation.

Two candidates were murdered and more than 30 other people died in campaign-related violence.

At least 11 of the fatalities were Maoists cadres, even though national and international election monitors agreed that it was the Maoists (and their Young Communist League) who started most clashes.

The clashes were fought with fists, knives and occasionally guns, while several had a medieval flavor, with attackers rolling boulders down hills at opposition gatherings.

"The lack of law and order, and poor security environment, contributed to a general atmosphere of fear and intimidation and at times undermined the right to campaign freely," said Jan Mulder, the head of the European Union's Election Observation mission.

Jimmy Carter, supporting socialist thugs at every turn

39 Ben Hur  Tue, Apr 29, 2008 1:48:59pm

Even if you give Carter a pass on using the word militia, the fact that calls it "Hamas's militia in Gaza" exposes more delusion.

Carter's opinion on anything is worth about as much as a fistful of unripened Georgia peanuts. What this contemptible, narcissistic, utterly irrelevant, man doesn't realize is that the joke's on him.

Deep down inside I think he knows that he's the worst President ever and has been desperately trying to shore up his legacy ever since.

To all you liberal moonbats out there...say what you will about Bush but at least he's a gentleman and has some respect for his office and those who came before him and those who will follow. The man is a class act, period. You definitely can't say that about the last two Democrat Presidents.

I really think his family must hate him. Otherwise they would do what so many others have done when their elderly lose their marbles. They'd keep them quietly comfortable and entertained in their own sphere and certainly wouldn't let them go around hurting others.

Jimmy Carter never had many marbles to begin with, but if the whole Carter family is on board with his views, then they are even more a poisonous weed than previously thought.

I have to believe he was warned. I hope Condi politely calls him on it again (well I can hope). I think Bush has got too much class and respect for a former POTUS to put the evidence he was warned out there.

Yep, they've got the power, now all they need is a little time to show what they're truly made of. Once a viable coalition of opposition parties is formed and begins actually "opposing" their rule, Prachanda and his buddies will start arranging convenient "accidents" for them.

this precedent is kind of frightening.

Carter is still trying to build his legacy to the detriment of the USA, Israel, all free peoples of the world.

We have a former President of the United States who was fired in 1980 coming back 28 years later and attempting to usurp the powers of the executive branch of our office. He is going around attempting to negotiate with terrorists. Disclaiming our allies (Israel) and propping up communist dictators.

What is he hoping to gain. Even the Clintons wont touch this with a 10 foot cigar.

This man was retired by a HUGE majority of the people of the USA. How can anyone, including the press, take him seriously?

As someone who lives here I read the New York Times only on the weekends, for the lifestyle portions of the weekend paper, certainly not the news. I gave up reading the Times during the week more than several years ago. Not a registered republican or such I guess I am what would be called an independent.

I find Dowd's and Rich's columns quite amusing and an excellent example of "preaching to the choir". From my own travels they don't seem to speak to the America outside of their own limited circles, that, actually, elect the Presidents of this country. The people that I know in their 20s don't read the Times. I expect Rupert to buy them up too in another 2-3 years when their circulation has hit a more significant low.

As for Carter, history will record him as a failed President whose ethical b.s. helped create the most dangerous regime in the 20-21st century in Iran. I think history in retrospect will be more kind to Bush, in terms of keeping the country safe since 9-11.

Well - here's the proof if it was needed, from the horse's , i.e. Hamas, mouth:

Hamas legislator Mushir al-Masri said Tuesday that a truce with Israel would not be possible unless all the Palestinian groups agreed to it.

"We won't go to a hudna [temporary truce] unless there is a consensus among the Palestinians about it," he said. "We are aware that some groups are opposed to a truce, but don't believe that the major factions would reject a mutual and comprehensive truce that would end the siege imposed on the Gaza Strip."

From Yahoo News
AFP article

he Gaza-based Palestinian Centre for Human Rights also said the drone had targeted a group of Palestinian fighters outside the house but insisted the family was killed by shrapnel from the second missile.
The shrapnel destroyed the door of the house and flew inside, where Meissar Abu Maateq, 40, and her six children were eating breakfast just two metres from the door," the organisation said

So the family ignored the first missile and continued with their breakfast rather than seek shelter. AFP needs to look again.
1. First they report that all palestinians are starving to death, so where did the breakfast come from?
2. These are human shields that never got a chance to be filmed in action.
3. AFP is full of poop.

No, the grinning idiot who secretly kicks the hired help around when cameras aren't around globe trots and continues to stroke and preen the scum of the earth while blaming any other country that has so much as developed indoor plumbing for being imperialist. Newsmax had a great story on the Muslims in France "Muslims make up only about 12 percent of France’s population — but account for from 60 to 70 percent of all inmates in the country’s prisons." Apparently no matter where this bedouin flotsam lands, that country is the worse for it. Either the world will figure out that Palestinians and their causes are as worthy as fighting to save cockroaches or Israel will finally tire of this tit for tat game, take off the gloves and mop the floor with their empty skulls and finally raise the IQ of the mideast to a tolerable level. Or we could continue with the "stuck on stupid" mode that has accomplished so much the last 40 years.
