A shame they needed the police, though.

No doubt. What is supposed to be our bastions of free and independent thought is in reality just a continuation of the indoctrination centers we call public education. Sadly- these kids created the need for these officers to be posted at this discussion, yet will turn around and cry about the fascist police state tactics used to quite their freedom of speech- all the while blind to the fact they were the ones trying to deny the free expression of others' ideas. Maddening.

18 protestshooter  Wed, Apr 30, 2008 12:12:02pm

Oh, hey, thanks for the link. Always appreciated.

It's always odd to cover an event where it's notable for what didn't happen - the whole audience was nervous the whole time - many had been there last time, and having 7-8 cops scanning the audience at all times is rather odd.

I do believe there will be a little zomblog update at some point, so people may want to look for that as well.

Zimbabwe Election saga continues.

Zimbabwe opposition leader wins vote:

HARARE (Reuters) - Opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai beat Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe's presidential election, winning 47 percent of the vote against the president's 43 percent, senior government sources said on Wednesday.

One source, declining to be named like the others, told Reuters a run-off would be needed because Tsvangirai did not win enough votes for an outright victory.

[snip]

If Tsvangirai refused to take part in a run-off, Mugabe would be declared the winner, according to election rules.

Venezuelan ex-general sentenced in 2003 bombings

CARACAS, Venezuela - A dissident former general has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison for bombing attacks on Spanish and Colombian diplomatic missions in Venezuela's capital.

[...]

Venezuelan officials said at the time that the bombings were meant to destabilize the government of President Hugo Chavez, who shortly beforehand had warned Spain and Colombia not to interfere in Venezuelan affairs.

[Gen.] Rodriguez, also known by his nickname "The Crow," was among military officers who rose up against President Hugo Chavez in a short-lived 2002 coup.

The MSM is cruel, heartless and sick.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Federal prosecutors have requested that the sentencing hearing for confessed child killer Joseph Duncan be closed to the public during testimony from one of his young victims, Shasta Groene, to protect her from emotional harm.

Prosecutors, who filed the motion Tuesday in U.S. District Court here, also are asking that the courtroom be closed while the jury is shown a graphic videotape Duncan made that prosecutors say shows him sexually abusing the then 8-year-old girl and her 9-year-old brother, Dylan. Duncan eventually shot and killed the boy with a sawed-off shotgun at a wilderness campsite in Montana.

[snip]

The motion was filed in response to a legal memorandum filed earlier this month by 16 media and open-government organizations, The Spokesman-Review newspaper of Spokane, Wash., reported.

The group has told U.S. District Judge Edward Lodge that the public has a constitutional right to be present in the courtroom.

OT: Plutonium on the Euphrates -- II

We finally know what Israel bombed in the Syrian desert on September 6 last year, and it isn't pretty. After seven months of silence, the Bush Administration confirmed last week that the target was a nuclear reactor being built with the aid of North Korea.

The prospect of nuclear technology in the hands of another terrorism-sponsoring state is scary enough. Worse is the notion that Syria's reactor is no big deal. That's the interpretation being shopped in Washington by anonymous Administration officials, presumably at State, who have been quoted as saying the CIA has "little confidence" that the goal was to build a bomb.

Because, ya know, secret plutonium nuclear reactors built buy North Koreans are usually used only to heat incubators for kitten farms.

ARGH!

Recently, a demonstration was organized at the University of Toronto over student fee increases. Curiously, as the protest began, it was taken over by a group of "militants" shouting about the Zionist apartheid regime. An administration building was occupied and the office of a senior administrator (who happens to have a very Jewish sounding name) was barricaded by the protesters. In fact, the protesters attempted to enter her office, but it was locked just in time by alert staff. Staff who attempted to leave were physically attacked. Police & security were called and had to physically remove the protesters. Death threats were uttered by one of the "militants'.

Unfortunately it seems to me that American college students, have by and large, internalized political correctness to the extent that they avoid asking or debating controversial or unpopular questions to begin with, especially if they don't meet the demanding standards of liberal orthodoxy. They do however, listen, so that a presentation by Pipes and Hanson has great merit.

While most commentators are focused on the Reverend Wright, Barack Obama's abysmal understanding of the capital gains tax is astounding, especially given his education. He is the wrong man at the wrong time overall, Wright has done everyone a favor.

In the meantime more democratic super delegates have decided to join the Obama election death march. Nominating someone based on their color is more important than their ability to win, their weakness, or character to this ideologically besotted bunch. Expect Hillary in 2012.

Another cute aspect to this case.

Duncan was caught with the girl, showed police where the boy's body was, and admitted to killing the kids parents and older sibling. Duncan is guilty as they come.

Duncan is acting as his own counsel. It is still possible he gets to cross examine Shasta on the stand.

Off topic-sort of. I was looking at some of Zombie's older photos- of a really awful anti-semitic sign. I think I would be willing to be arrested if I could actually assault someone who would carry a sign like that. at least then- he would have an actual Jew to hate.

A must read essay, posted by JMF on the link scroll:

Fire in the Night
The Weathermen tried to kill my family.
30 April 2008

During the April 16 debate between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, moderator George Stephanopoulos brought up “a gentleman named William Ayers,” who “was part of the Weather Underground in the 1970s. They bombed the Pentagon, the Capitol, and other buildings. He’s never apologized for that.” Stephanopoulos then asked Obama to explain his relationship with Ayers. Obama’s answer: “The notion that somehow as a consequence of me knowing somebody who engaged in detestable acts 40 years ago, when I was eight years old, somehow reflects on me and my values, doesn’t make much sense, George.” Obama was indeed only eight in early 1970. I was only nine then, the year Ayers’s Weathermen tried to murder me.

Obama is a lying weasel with zero integrity.

I am sure that in honor of May Day the women of Code Pink and the loonies who stand in front of the public library like mimes dressed in black, will not shave their legs!

I have heard VDH speak about 6 times and I make a point to read whatever he writes. He is a towering intellect, and a pretty good farmer too.

At noon? Don't these people work?

May Day is supposed to be a general walk out/call in sick day. But locally they've had to move the east bay immigration rally to the evening because not enough people would come otherwise.

Daniel Pipes spoke here with very little protest and objection here at UC Santa Barbara. The MSA got a little pissy when he said that their organization was founded by the godfather of Al Qaeda and claimed they had no idea what he was talking about when he read a rather incriminating portion out of the MSA handbook.

Some "performance" artist had a gig on the UW (Seattle) campus.
Her schtick, was to have guys come up on stage and look in her vagina with a flashlight.

Seattle has a 4' rule for strip clubs, but it doesn't apply to art on a college campus?

*shakes head*

Which is why as much as some things bother me. I am extremely hesitant to limit "speech."

Although I wish would could define performance art where smearing ones naked body in chocolate as something other than speech.

That particular act involved a form of homicide (in my opinion), either in reality or figuratively.

My saying that Islam is on the wrong track and mst be reformed does not involve direct harm to anyone. It is food for thought.

By the same token, my belief that leftism is a threat to the West which should be countered as an idea harms nobody.

When my ability to express ideas like this attracts the attention of the police -- then I get worried.

On the other coast, Siraj "the blind sheik is a nice guy" Wahhaj will be in Manchester, NH, giving the keynote speech at a fundraiser at the Radisson for the Islamic Society of Greater Manchester to keep building their mosque in the city of Manchester.

They invited an unindicted co-conspirator in terrorism to speak for them. A radical imam, who has given lectures like "Are you ready to die"? A guy who said that Desert Storm was a "diabolical plot". The guy who defended the mastermind of the 1993 WTC bombing, who personally knew him. That Siraj Wahhaj.

Just WHAT is going to go on in the mosque they're building in Manchester, New Hampshire?

You can see it on their own site, the speaker listing at [Link: www.isgm.net...]

May 4th. Any people in New Hampshire want to see if they'll let an infidel in to videotape what he says?

I've believed for the longest time, restricting ideas and speech about those ideas drives them underground where they can fester. The proponents of those ideas feel more justified in their "oppressed" status and finally striking out becomes in their view the only option.

When someone is allowed to vent publicly, the only whine they have left is "no one listens to me."

I also belief the proof of this lies here in the US. Despite the volume and sometimes shrillness of the rhetoric when have very little ideological violence.

I think that the coolness of this event is being understated. It is not just that the event did not get moonbat-ed. The applause was *thunderous* at times.

(my earlier blurb on the event...repasted since I am lazy)

It was great to finally see Drs. Daniel Pipes, VDH and Yarood Brook speak in person. I have not read or heard of Dr. Brook before. But he had a lot of welcome things to say about the issue. He is a very strong defender of our culture and a fearless opponent of our enemy.

All of the panelists presented interesting and useful insights into Totalitarian Islam. So all around a great event.

The amazing thing was that it went off so well in BERKELEY of all places. Some sample quotes from speakers...(I'll have to paraphrase).

"Totalitarian Islam is an enemy that must be completely crushed militarily, politically and culturally"

*applause*

"The UN is the worst human organization in history"

*loud applause*

"Our enemy needs to be named and that enemy is Totalitarian Islam"

*applause*

"Best candidate to handle the threat of Totalitarian Islam: John McCain"

(no groans, boos or catcalls, some applause)

"Worst candidate to handle the threat of Totalitarian Islam: Obama"

(no groans, boos or catcalls, some applause)

Reference to H Clinton's "obliterate Iran" comment

*applause*

"Iran and Saudi Arabia are governments that advocate the philosophy and goals of our enemy and need to be treated accordingly"

*applause*

The oral questions from the audience contained *no* questions or comments that were hostile to the intellectual framework of the panelists. The debate was more about tactics and strategy.

I was amazed. There were approximately 200-300 people there (rough guess). I hope that Zombie does a bit on it.

And I was able to get my lovely wife a very cool "Laissez Faire" t-shirt. :)

FINALLY, here is my report on the same event:

Pipes and VDH at Berkeley: No news is good news

Nothing happened when Daniel Pipes and Victor Davis Hanson showed up to give a talk on the UC Berkeley campus yesterday.

Nothing at all. No protests, no interruptions, no shouting, no disruptive audience members, no threats, no cries of “Racist!“, no verbal attacks on Israel — nothing.

Which — considering what happened the last time Pipes spoke at UC, in 2004 — is just about the most remarkable news to come out of the Berkeley campus in a while.

Took me too long, as usual. But hey -- I got video!

Zombie: I think one reason that this was a low-key event is that it was NOT openly promoted. Let's see what happens at the Islamophobia conference on April 25-26!

I think the Leftists were just resting up for their most important holiday of the year, Mayday.
Curious though that not even a few radicals showed up. It is likely that the reason was not apathy but as the result of some larger plan for disruption.

"Who is "we" in this case? Are you truly including yourself in this question?

Or are you being condescending? " -- gop_patriot

You'd probably call it both.

The line is taken from Terminator 2, when young John Connor is asking Arnold if he's learned something about where car-keys are hidden.

However, in the movie, young John Connor is also learning about a lot of things. Don't you think?

The point is that ENTJs learn best by interaction with other people, like on this here blog.

The problem with dealing with some of the people, as in some being engaged here, is that they have nothing constructive to offer. Take for example Yooper, who only wants to 'learn' me how to use the reply techniques of this particular system. Something I already know about and don't care to use. And yet he keeps insisting that I do it HIS way. As if that had anything to do with showing me something useful that I didn't already know. For him and others like him, it's a control-trip. He wants to get his panties in a bunch of 'formats' as opposed to information. Will HE 'learn'? I have my doubts.

On the other hand, we have OR and BZ and SR. They've learned to ignore me. A better lesson that Yooper and some others here. However, others will call for 'killing'. Just because they don't care to 'celebrate my diversity'.

Such is life......and death.....

Regards,

Chuck(le)
[It seems that the biggest problem of modern society is not to learn to 'live' with your fellow man, but to 'tolerate' him. If you can tolerate him, there's a higher probability that you can actually 'live' with him. An he with you. -- CBPelto]
