Kos Hearts Pat Buchanan

Thu, May 1, 2008 at 9:19:06 am PDT

In his search for something, anything to help spin the events of the last few days, Markos “Screw Them” Moulitsas resorts to quoting ... Pat Buchanan? Daily Kos: Bush more unpopular than Wright.

Pat Buchanan, on MSNBC:

If President Bush is more unpopular than the Reverend Wright, the Republicans are in a lot of trouble.
Was there ever any doubt about this? I know Clinton supporters and Republicans fervently believe that Wright is a top concern among voters, but really, were people supposed to think that the crazy rantings of a Chicago preacher are more relevant to their lives than the mess Bush has left behind the last eight years?

A Taxonomy of Phony Conservatives:

"Neocon"
Late convert to the conservative cause. May simply be a hippy who got smacked by reality. Generally favor low taxes, but are soft on spending control. Generally favor liberal social policies. Because they are likely to support Israel, critics often use the term "neocon" when they mean "Jews"...as in "Those dirty, awful neocons."

Example: Bill Kristol

"Pseudocon"
Also known as Republican in Name Only (RINO). May espouse vaguely pro-business policies, possibly in hope of campaign contributions, but otherwise follow a liberal/collectivist line. May also have one distinctive conservative stance (e.g., Nixon's anti-communism) that causes them to be mis-labeled a "conservative" by others who don't really understand what that means. May also portray themselves as conservatives in an attempt to hoodwink mainstream Republican voters (e.g. John McCain).

Examples: John McCain, Michael Medved, Kay Bailey Hutchinson

"Paleocon"
Reactionaries commonly mis-labeled as "conservatives". Crusty remants of the old far right, the way the modern-day alligator represents what's left of the now-extinct dinosaurs. Likely to see conspiracies at every turn. Often virulently anti-Semitic, which means they believe many of America's problems are the fault of the "Israel lobby" (another code phrase for "Jews"). Completely unelectable as politicians. Their continued existence allows the Left to compare all conservatives to Nazis.

Examples: Pat Buchanan, Ron Paul.

Its about Obama.

I don't think anyone REALLY thinks that Obama believes the US gov't created the AIDS virus to kill black people, as an example of one of many crazy things that Wright has preached.

But lots of people are legitimately wondering what exactly it IS that Obama believes that led him to sit in Wright's church for 20+ years.

In 20 years of that kind of crackpot theology, what exactly has rubbed off on Obama? And what was there to begin with?

Really? I think he's kinda pretty.

Maybe on the outside.

On the inside is a fetid cesspit of anti-semitism.

re: #7 Occasional Reader

Makes sense. Out of idle curiosity, I picked up a copy of The American Conservative (Buchanan's mag) a couple of years ago, and scanned through an article on the Iraq War. It could easily have been written by a KosKid (but for the fairly good spelling and grammar). War for oil, war for Israel, etc.

Yeah Buchanan outside of his opposition to abortion would fit in nicely with the Kos Krowd. PMSNBC has him on as a commentator all the time

Pat Buchanan: Churchill, Hitler, and "The Unnecessary War": How Britain Lost Its Empire and the West Lost the World

What a dick.

The book (I checked it out on Amazon) seems positively neo Fascist and disgusting.
