re: #1 JamesTKirk

(Yet another thing I never thought I'd be saying about a Hillary thread.)

I didn't see any of the interview in question - transcripts, summaries, or YouTubage?

6 FrogMarch  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:14:19pm

The sound of her voice makes me ill.
What populist nanny state drivel is she shoveling tonight?

8 Reardon Metal  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:14:41pm

Hill--you just can't hide those lyin' eyes..

9 acapesket123  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:14:43pm

Thanx Charles, really didn't feel like arguing evolution tonight! OT, my brother had surgery to his knee this morning and is doing very well, he even walked me to the door when I was leaving! Amazing....

15 ModerateWolverine  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:16:18pm

Whoa! Not cracking down on sanctuary cities. You mean, not enforce our laws?

16 bosforus  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:16:40pm

will we get more Hillary screen shots?

17 arielle  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:17:02pm

why does O'Reilly allow Hillary to determine that waterboarding is torture?

18 jcm  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:17:08pm

re: #15 ModerateWolverine

Whoa! Not cracking down on sanctuary cities. You mean, not enforce our laws?

Laws are sooo arbitrary. They adversely impact criminals.

I sure hope not....

Because it is....

22 godfrey  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:18:06pm

Everything is a show to these people.

There is a commercial there, if need be.

I don't remember her having eyes like that when Bill was president.

25 FrogMarch  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:18:50pm

Is Bill tossing out me me me it's all about me soft balls?
Bill is so self absorbed.

26 ModerateWolverine  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:18:50pm

I don't hear any stuttering...at least that.

27 DesertSage  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:18:53pm

Hillary really wants the Hispanic vote.

Taking out someone's eye is torture. Cutting off genitalia is torture. Waterboarding is aggressive, but not torture.

30 Catttt  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:19:51pm

Senator McCain next week. Think Senator O will go on Mr. O's show?

31 LoFlyer  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:19:59pm

re: #20 Charles

Who's arguing evolution? I thought we settled that one.

Several are or were. I don't feel comfortable arguing evolution versus "Adam and Eve" with folks that I highly respect....

32 Ojoe  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:20:05pm

What are they talking about?

I, Sasquatch, have no tv in back country.

35 JammieWearingFool  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:20:22pm

I never thought I'd say this, but she comes off as credible.

Compared to Glowbama, that is.

36 FrogMarch  Thu, May 1, 2008 5:20:36pm

Hillary needs Obama on the ticket with her on her climb to the white house. Just keep that in mind.

I am so not pleased with the choices we have in November.

"Well, where do you think it is?"

Translation: I don't know shit. Please cover my fat ass.

Sorry to go OT so soon and I hope you all forgive me. To all my Lizard friends, please send prayers (or just good thoughts) up for my family and I. My father, a wonderful strong man passed away last night. He was a Korean war hero w/lots of medals but most of all he was a hero to so many people in our family. You guys would have LOVED him as he was a ball busting exrodinaire. I'll be off the threads for awhile as I will be going to Miami to lay him to rest.
Thanks for any kind thoughts or prayers.

re: #44 arielle

I'm not a prime suspect in a nuclear terrorist plot, so that probably won't happen...but maybe you're right, maybe we should ask them politely and we'll learn about their plans.

Maybe we should just call it what it is, and be done with it. However the US has never condoned or supported torture in the past, our country is better than that. Times have changed, we now have US lawyers volunteering to legally defend terrorists against justice. 911 opened our eyes to the danger but torture goes against everything good about America. I don't like it and think it is extremely poor policy.

First of all physical pain to coerce confession or information is just plain wrong. Yes, if I was Jack Bauer trying to save LA from nuclear terrorism in 24, I would be the first pulling teeth with pliars trying to save LA. It should never be official policy of our great nation though. What happens if a mistake in identification is made and it is you being tortured?

None of the terrorists have been ganged raped, but that is an interesting point. If we simulated gang rape on the suspects, would that be torture?

Keep them in the shadows! They are here ILLEGALLY! If they were not here, then they wouldn't be involved in crimes they are afraid to report! If they run a red light, go thru a stop sign, rob a store, get caught drunken driving and are arrested and have no papers- DEPORT THEM! Sanctuary cities do not report them and clinton didn't get that- at the end she seemed to and started to agree- if you commit a crime- do time and get deported. She is putting peoples lives in danger! Employers should be busted- they should not be able to get rentals or mortages- their kids should not be educated on my dime taking services away from my kids because English as a second language is draining funds- they are wiping out hospitals with bad debt and bringing in diseases- this is insane! Look at how Mexico and other countries treat illegals- positively medieval! Because of loony libs like her- our country is going down the tubes!

My condolences on your patriotic/heroic father. May I suggest the Military service play taps at the internment. They did for my father in '03 and the effect was very solemn and impressive, with the flag presentation, as well.

We need to remember and honor them for their heroic contributions not only because they earned the recognition, but because it also sets precedence for the younger folks about what proper love of country is all about in this day of revisionist history run amuck.

Speaking as one who lived through Clinton's interminable eight years of presidency, I fear for our country if this woman gets elected.

However, I have to hand it to her - she outdid herself in this interview. Don't know how she did it - drugs, make-up, little whiff of nitrous oxide, or whatever - but I believe she may have just pulled herself out of the frying pan. Even the republican talking points were begrudgingly impressed. What she may have done here is culled some fence-sitters who are unhappy with Obama.

The timing of this interview was good. Too good, in fact. Does anyone else wonder about this? Wright. Obama on defensive. Press Club speech by Wright. More Obama on defensive. Then Hillary's interview with O'Reilly.

I don't know about you, but things have never fallen into place in my life or anyone else's I know like it has for Hillary.

Could this possibly be a sneak peek into the so-called Clinton machine?

P.S. I am not a conspiracy theorist - something just doesn't pass the smell test with the progression of events here.

#129 LEGION : "How about wacky Roseanne Barr calling for riots in Denver- whatta nut."

And here's how it starts:

Opening shot of Demo Convention in Denver of wacky Roseanne Barr giving her rendition of the National Anthem, pausing to spit on a burning American flag on the floor...

Cut to: Honorees box containing Jimma, Al Assad, Chavez, Moore, Mark Cuban, assorted Hollyweird cast - standing while applauding her.

Cut to: Couric/Donaldson: Wow! What an opening Sam, this will be the shinning moment for the Dems this year, right? Katie, your stealing my thunder, you perky little thang.

Cut to Bret Hume: holding lowered head in hands, "Lord help the American people, and give me the strength to get thru this!"

Cut to: carbques and beaucoup signage w/ code pink, La Raza, (you name 'um) partying outside the hall on the street in the cordened off official Demo "express yourself" zone............

Go to: commercial, followed by Dean Scream to open up coverage!

And that's just the opening. What a gig for ratings!

(get ya popcorn & barf bags ready, folks)

143 offendi  Thu, May 1, 2008 7:13:10pm

I think Republicans should be very afraid at what they saw on O'Reilly the past two nights. Why? Because Jon McCain = Bob Dole Redux, at least so far. A old senator who is just happy to be nominated, and without the real fire in the belly to do what is necessary to win. Hillary does. And the mentally lazy will vote Obama no matter what if he is their nominee.

This is based in some part on McCain's nonsensical comments about Rev. Wright essentially being a non-issue. Does McCain really believe that African-Americans will vote for him if Obama doesn't get the nod? He is already being portrayed as a crazed war-mongerer who wants a 100 year war.

He better get a solid and much younger running mate, and his staff better get wise to real world politics pronto.

Funny thing is that given Obama's issues, Mitt will not have been so bad a candidate as concerns (whether valid or not) about the impact/influence of his religion as President would have been balanced out by concerns over Obama's 20 yr. pastor and selection of church.

Sorry to hear about your loss VegasRick. You are in my thoughts and prayers. When my Dad passed away (2005), I focused I on the years we had together, how fortunate I was to have him in my life, and how much I owed him for becoming the man I am. Hope this helps.

re: #70 LoFlyer

Maybe we should just call it what it is, and be done with it. However the US has never condoned or supported torture in the past, our country is better than that. Times have changed, we now have US lawyers volunteering to legally defend terrorists against justice. 911 opened our eyes to the danger but torture goes against everything good about America. I don't like it and think it is extremely poor policy.

I don't know about "condoned" or "supported", but the U.S. has used torture in WWII for sure against the Japanese...ostensibly to protect our boys who were captured. Of course, resorting to torture is not the moral choice, neither is killing. Unfortunately, wars are sometimes necessary and both are very effective tools to wage war.

147 yitzy  Thu, May 1, 2008 7:48:37pm

re: #100 LoFlyer

First of all physical pain to coerce confession or information is just plain wrong. Yes, if I was Jack Bauer trying to save LA from nuclear terrorism in 24, I would be the first pulling teeth with pliars trying to save LA. It should never be official policy of our great nation though. What happens if a mistake in identification is made and it is you being tortured?

L.F. you've just contradicted yourself. I wouldn't describe torture as "official U.S. policy"...as in "let's torture 'em all and see what we find out!" I think waterboarding has been applied to only 3 prisoners in the recent conflict (Lizard fact-check please?). It's applied only rarely; otherwise, we treat our prisoners better than their homelife probably.

re: #147 yitzy

LoFlyer wants us to "call it what it is," doesn't "like" it, and thinks we should not do it, but would pull teeth out with pliers personally in certain rare cases. You know, the old "wink wink, nod nod" approach to the issue. Of course, the fact that it actually has only been used in certain rare cases (yes, the total number is 3 over the course of the ENTIRE conflict) doesn't matter. He/she doesn't like it. Sorry, LoFlyer, spoken like a true liberal -- advocating policy based on feelings ("like") rather than rational consideration of the facts and consequences. I am familiar with your posts, and they are generally very cogent and well written, but you are just off base here. (Just my opinion, of course.)

I can not help but wonder if the interview with Bill O'Reilly will even be remembered because I see no way in hell that the Dems will let Hillery have the nomination. Bill and Hillery can do interviews and scream and yell and threaten all they want but I do believe the Dems will not give her the nomination. Barak is their guy and they are sticking to it!

Personally I couldn't care less what the terrorists feel while in our control. Considering what the North Vietnamese, the North Koreans, the Soviets, the Iranians, the Iraqi republican Guard and many more have done to our soldiers and our allies, being "better than that" accounts for squat. You fight a war to win it and if it means you perform open vivisection on a terrorist and feed the remains to the hogs in front of his friends, so be it. I do not hear one whit on the side of the lefites complain about what al Qeda hgas done. Screw this play nice bullshit, do you really think the enemy really respects that? They don't, they consider us weak and wimpy. I want to US to be the biggest baddest dog on the block. Just leave us alone and you'll be fine. Mess with us, and will rip you apart. Don't want to get ripped apart? Then don't fly planes into our buildings.

157 just another four-letter word  Fri, May 2, 2008 7:14:05am

Bubbasbbq, I think you're a *little* over the top. Just a little. I will not go out of my way to vivisect a terrorist just to be "the biggest baddest dog on the block", but putting them to death in the quickest way possible I can agree with. Likewise with their buddies and sympathizers.

LoFlyer, in this case you are full of mush. Torture, properly applied in the right circumstances is necessary, regardless of how one feels. If I can torture much needed information that will save lives out of somebody that I know has the information, I will do it, and do it gladly. Not to throw terror into the dumb sod that I am working on, not to serve as a cautionary example ("pour encourager les autres" if I am quoting correctly), but to get much needed information to save lives, especially innocent ones! It's a disagreeable chore, but somebody's gotta do it - and you aren't obviously the one!

VegasRick, my condolences, and prayers for you and yours. Maybe my dad and yours can swap stories Up There, until we all "can meet around the pleasing bar of God". Our dads' were sumptin', weren't they? Just like this brave generation fighting and dying today...

JAFLW

158 bubbasbbq  Fri, May 2, 2008 8:11:04am

Read my post again, I didn't say I advocate it, I said I didn't care if they did it. Being enemy combatants and not "real Soldiers" the Geneva Convention doesn't apply, not that anyone else in the world ever follows it except us. However, I am going to say, unless you strike fear, REAL fear into your enemy's heart, the fight will go one because the fighting won't stop until you sap their will to fight. And Yes, being the biggest baddest dog in the block in the war is VERY important. They attacked us because they thought we were weak and impotent. Unfortuantely, we are somewhere in between. We are not totally weak, but we need to be stronger where it counts.

re: #37 LoFlyer

Confining a claustrophobic to a cell is torture, psychological abuse (yelling at) someone is torture, anything I don't like is torture, by that definition. Some torture, by that definition, is acceptable to a reasonable man, and may be used to coerce information from an unwilling detainee.

160 lostlakehiker  Fri, May 2, 2008 8:22:55am

re: #37 LoFlyer

Simulated drowning is torture. Try it sometime and tell me what you think of it.....

Many of our military, diplomatic, and intelligence types have training in resisting interrogation. The training can include waterboarding.

The trouble with defining waterboarding as torture is that if it's torture, so is prolonged confinement, deprivations---no women, no alcohol, no cigarettes, no T-bone steaks, where is the line?

Drawing the line at a short list of specific cruelties invented by top-ten sadists of the past allows too free a rein to interrogators.

The fact is, there's no line. Anything we do, short of letting people loose, can be spun as torture. You can hear it now, from Al Reutszeera:

The prospect of rotting away in a not-exactly-POW camp, when all you ever did was car-bomb a wedding party and kill a bunch of not-exactly-infidels, has to be sheer torture. A decent respect for human rights requires that you be set free, and invited to weddings.

And in the other direction, many of the things we do, including waterboarding, are coercive and unpleasant. Waterboarding should be reserved for the most drastic and urgent situations, when a great many lives are at stake and the subject is sure to know enough to be very helpful in reducing the danger.
