RetweetOffensive McCain Questioner: From Huffington Post

Fri, May 2, 2008 at 2:28:05 pm PDT

You may have heard about that stunt where someone asked John McCain if he had ever called his wife a certain rude word; it now looks like the Huffington Post was behind it.

Classy!

Doesn't the law still recognize the idea of "fighting words?"

I suppose the idea was to provoke McCain into a burst of anger. I wish he had provoked him to a burst of violence and popped him on the jaw. I remember when some idiot called Buzz Aldrin a traitor and a liar and a coward, claiming he never walked on the moon. Buzz, in his seventies, flattened the guy. Made me like him even more.

14 jamgarr  Fri, May 2, 2008 2:33:30pm

Old school Democrats (you know, the ones who were Democrats way back when the party wasn't filled with crazy leftist socialists) just have to be appalled at the people that have taken over their party and the levels to which they sink on a daily basis.

BUT WAIT

Look how it reads on the HuffPost itself!

"Marty Parrish was aware of John McCain's alleged history as an adulterer and that he had left the wife who had raised his children while McCain was held captive in Vietnam for a rich, young trophy wife.

But last week, when Parrish -- a business owner in Des Moines -- read a HuffingtonPost article by Adam McKay, "Vetting the Candidates," that related how McCain had verbally abused Cindy McCain in front of reporters and staff, Parrish became both angry and concerned."

I already know the answer: I'm sure it would have ruined his campaign. But the fact is, I would have respected him even more. One of the ideas I've been wrestling with is the concept that rudeness, stupidity and paranoia no longer carry any negative consequences. As Glenn Reynolds likes to repeat, an armed society is a polite society.

I think one of the reasons characters like Tony Soprano and Al Swearingen resonate so strongly with so many people is that they are men whom you cannot simply insult to their face and get away with it. That sense of a personal moral boundary that repels dirt is enormously interesting and appealing to me in my dotage...

Yeah, I'm beginning to believe that John McCain's legendary temper is a bit more engineered than his enemies (political and foreign both) realize.
I think that John understands the inherent power in seeming to have all the cards in play and then acting ''crazy'' enough to maybe even do the ''unthinkable."
In warfare that is the ''Uncertainty Principle."
Both Hillary and Obama seem to crave telling our nation's enemies that certain acts are ''off the table."

MORE ON HUFFPO - now he's a MINISTER!
---
UPDATE: It turns out the man who asked the question is a Baptist minister worried about McCain's temper:

Clive businessman Marty Parrish was escorted from Sen. John McCain's town hall meeting by Des Moines police and members of the Secret Service after asking McCain if he had called his wife Cindy an expletive in 1992.

Parrish, an ordained Baptist minister who holds a master's degree in political science, was questioned by Secret Service agents before being released. He was not charged in the incident. Parrish asked whether McCain called his wife Cindy an expletive related to the female anatomy, as has been alleged in the book "The Real McCain," written by Dem strategist Cliff Schecter.

McCain's response got him a round of applause from the crowd: "There's people here who don't respect that kind of language, so I'll move on to the next questioner in the back."

In an interview with IowaPolitics.com, Parrish said his intentions were simple in posing the question to McCain. The former Joe Biden campaign worker stressed he is very concerned about the Republican presidential nominee's temperament.

"We have a man whose temper can get the best of him," Parrish said. "What I am worried about is his temper. Our country is in a serious crisis. This election is the most significant one since 1860. It appears America is asleep -- so I stood up and asked the question."

I don't care if McCain ever called his wife a nasty name, as long as she and he have things worked out to their satisfaction.

I do care if McCain:

1) Will have the guts to fight the Democratic nominee without euphemism or punch-pulling;

2) Will be willing to say (truthful) nasty things about some of the nasty people at home and abroad who are enemies of the country;

Here's the response I would have liked to see from McCain:

"I've never called my wife a c*nt, but I just called you one."

This is like the old question "Do you still beat your wife?" The intent was to insinuate that at some point McCain was abusive to his wife. Not a McCain supporter.

Exactly.

On the positive side, McCain was adult enough not to respond, and not to deck the guy. Although he deserved it.

Ah, the Left Machine goes into overdrive. Here's how it works:

A Democratic operative writes an unsourced smear in a non-fact-checked book.

Then a different Dem operative references that book in making a baseless accusation in public.

This is called "logical bootstrapping' -- lifting up your arguments by their own bootstraps.

It just struck me! What his motivation was!

Postmodern Leftist Thinking Philosophical Pillar #6:

The accusation is more important than the response.

The goal was simply to associate McCain with the word "c*nt." That's it.

This is what passing for critical thinking in the leftosphere.

Bingo! What do you do, call a press conference & deny it?
Of Course not, that would keep it alive.
Now it is in the public domain & people like Bill Mahr will run with it.

Perhaps people attracted to the HuffPo are sociopathic. They attempt to minimic and appeal to real people, but it doesn't quite come off.

But, incredibly, in the publishing industry, the Huffington Post is considered the one Web site with the highest prestige factor. For real.

If you have a column on or contribute to HuffPo, you can easily land a book deal. Without the HuffPo on your resume, it's much more difficult.

I've hear many anecdotes from people backing this up. People try to land a publisher, but get told, "No -- but if you had a fan base on Huffington post, the answer might be 'Yes.'" So the person goes out and writes a few things for HuffPo (which, by the way, DOES NOT PAY), and -- boom -- instant book deal.

Yeah. She is bankable, apparently. It really is annoying. I've seen puff pieces (no pun intended) extolling her virtues, and it is purely because people can - or think they can - make a buck off her.

Yes, Mrs. McCain is the perfectly coifed blonde standing dutifully behind the senator during his speeches. And yes, she wears stylish clothing and carries a Prada purse. And it's true she doesn't say much. But feminist critics who write her off as a "stand-by-your-man" shrinking violet are selling her short. In many ways, Cindy McCain stacks up sturdier than Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. And she'd make a more impressive first lady.

I believe this is why the question was asked:
(From Huffpo )

McCain called his wife the C word in public. It's in Cliff Schecter's new book The Real McCain. And three reporters verified the incident. Here's an excerpt:

Three reporters from Arizona, on the condition of anonymity, also let me in on another incident involving McCain's intemperateness. In his 1992 Senate bid, McCain was joined on the campaign trail by his wife, Cindy, as well as campaign aide Doug Cole and consultant Wes Gullett. At one point, Cindy playfully twirled McCain's hair and said, "You're getting a little thin up there." McCain's face reddened, and he responded, "At least I don't plaster on the makeup like a trollop, you c**t." McCain's excuse was that it had been a long day. If elected president of the United States, McCain would have many long days.

The intent was to A) Cause McCain to lose his temper on camera and / or B) McCain denies the allegation and then is later proved to be lying. Win win for the left.

That was the most rude, disrespectful and vulgar thing I have heard. Seriously. It's Bush Derangement Syndrome projected onto McCain.

I agree completely!
No one calls me Little Miss Sweetness and Light (indeed, my own son sometimes jokingly calls me "potty mouth"), but there are standards of propriety and levels of respect for everything. NO candidate for the highest office in the land should be addressed in this manner, I don't care WHO he/she is!

I would like to have heard McCain respond with something like, "And what, sir, would the asking of such a rude question — or the answer to it — possibly accomplish?" And then in an aside to security, "Please escort this 'gentleman' from the premesis."

Good point about the cocaine cowboys. I worked the light andf laser show in several Miami clubs during the 80's (Parallel Bar, 1235) and the bouncers told us, "if you hear gunshot, get down and kill all the lights!"

I lived there from 1987 to 1990, in one of the original little houses next to the elementary school. Major South American money all around. I was renting from an 18 year old Nicaraguan who owned the house.

Absolutely. Think positive - it is more valuable that we know, I think.

I am a cancer survivor. While I was having treatment, I assumed I'd be ok and kept doing what I always do (except for the side trip to the hospital every day for months). People responded accordingly - treated me normally and mirrored my outlook. The few who kept coming at me with a long face drove me nuts. Well I see Man-Hater elizabetty dinged me down for comment #23.

Fact is healthy married couples fight once in awhile. We Men get called names and we fire back, cause we're stubborn SOB's. Now if any guy here is going to marry an Italian girl, be prepared for alot of fireworks.

Let me better phrase what I said before--if you guys are happy together, if you can make up completely, then fine. I don't know you and can't judge your marriage (I take back what I said before). But I've heard it said (by someone I can't remember, interviewed on Prager, I think) that contempt is the one thing a marriage can't survive.
Fighting is normal, probably healthy, but name-calling like that, showing contempt, is poison from what I understand.

An official count has not yet been released, but according to the London Evening Standard, Labour party officials say Conservative Boris Johnson's lead over incumbent candidate Ken Livingstone is insurmountable.

Also at stake in the elections were 159 local councils throughout England and Wales. By mid-day Friday, May 2, 2008, results from 148 of the councils had been tallied, reports the New York Times.

In its worst election results in at least four decades, the Labour Party is estimated to have won just 24 percent of the councils, with the Conservative Tories taking 44 percent, and the Liberal Dems winning 25 percent, according to BBC research.

Pro, are you saying that you got the word that it is lymphoma and they gave her 3 months? If so, I wouldn't make bet on that. Most doctors refuse to give that kind of estimate.

As far as the girlfriend goes, if she does not understand what you are going through and cannot be there to support you through this, then kick her to the curb. Girlfriends like that and $5 or so will buy you a cup of coffee.

Hey, we got a two year to live prognosis.
I got her to a superior specialist at a better hospital.
She is completely cancer free.Of course they went Medieval on her , but she fought like a warrior.

My son didn't have school today and wanted to go see Iron Man. Please note that, while snazzy looking, it is ANOTHER anti war spew. It calls to life the evil military industrial complex. It focuses on Afghanistan, where the problem is presented as the evil American weapons, not the Taliban lookalikes who are terrorizing the countryside. If only American weapons didn't exist, the world would be a lovely place.

Two thumbs down. If I had known I would have said no to my son.

3 months before she is hospitalized (I don't f%ing know)

Pro Bush, I've known a lot of cancer patients and had a couple in the family. There is NO way that any doctor can legitimately do any more than guess at such a thing. Positive thought works wonders with cancer patients and every hematologist in the universe will tell you about miraculous recoveries they cannot explain.

Now, let me say something hard to you. For any one of us, we could wake up in the morning and find that someone we cherish and love with all of our hearts has suddenly passed away in the night. Such things happen every day. Even in the very worst case scenario, you have been given a gift. I know it doesn't seem like it right now and won't for a while, but you are one of the few who has been given a gift of time to say all the things that need to be said, to build memories to last you and her kids a life time. You will have plenty of time to be sad later. Right now cherish every single minute that you have and do everything you can to bring peace and joy to your sister's life.

I will pray the same prayer for you that I prayed for my mother and I many years ago - that G_d would allow my mother to live for as long as she could enjoy living and live a relatively normal life and then when the time came, that he would take her peacefully in her sleep and give me the strength to understand. He did - and he did.

PBC, I know you know there are many kinds of Lymphoma with differing cure rates. Wait until you know what you are dealing with before torturing yourself. The diagnosis should not take months. Then if worst comes, do something real. Pay for a house cleaner once a week or have dinners delivered for her family if she is sick from chemo. Take the kids for a weekend after treatment starts. Do it. Think of ways to lighten her burden and she can concentrate on getting well and you will not feel so helpless either.

A Paulian is someone who supports Ron Paul. I don't. Glen Beck has never said that he does. Period.

So yeah, you do like it when Charles agrees with you about this evolution/ID debate. And calling Glen Beck a Paulian is guilt by association. Makes you feel good to be on the same page as the boss, so yes, I stand by my sucking up remark.

I know folks down in Texas are not yet harvesting their spring tomatoes (they get two crops), so you probably could get some heat lovers like melons going. And you can always do a garden for fall. Depending on when fall is, you plant in late June - early August to harvest after the weather cools off.

Trenton is about 2 hours east of Toronto. I've been there, a very nice area. The penninsula you're talking about is Prince Edward County (not to be confused with Prince Edward Island). PE county is gorgeous! Beautiful sand dunes & beaches, great B&Bs and inns to stay at, even a couple of nice wineries. Excellent vacation spot. And Trenton is home to a large Canadian Airforce Base. Every Canadian soldier killed in Afghanistan is flown home to Trenton. The highway by there is called the Highway of Heroes. People line the overpasses and wave flags when the motorcades go by. I thought that kind of patriotism was long gone, but I'm so glad to be proven wrong.

re: #300 Pro-Bush Canuck Hey my friend. I understand the fear and the uncertainty and the anger that you do.
I feel it every single day.
If your girlfriend (Lisa?) genuinely cares about you she will not only understand what you're going through but will try to help you any way she can.
In the meantime my friend, you can pray - and hope - doctors have been wrong before and even if some of your other relatives who've died from cancer died from Lymphoma, that doesn't mean ANYTHING when it comes to your sister and Lymphoma.
You need to help your sister, you truly do. But the very best way you can do that is : stop drinking tonight, right now. Eat something you enjoy - some sort of comfort food. Hold onto your girlfriend Lisa, hold on tightly. Pray long and hard for your sister. Get as much sleep as you can. Then tomorrow see what has transpired, if anything.
I don't know anything about distances and travel times, but is it possible for you to visit your sister in the near future? If so, do so. If I've misread what you said about your girlfriend, if she doesn't indeed understand and stand by you and pray with you and console and comfort you, then drop her NOW. I've got Cancer myself and it is spreading. For two years I had it and had no one to lean on or to cry with. I still made it through those two years and you can make it without your current girlfriend, too if you need to.
And remember, there are a lot of us out here who are pulling and praying for you and for your sister.
Whenever you feel like punching out your garage, remember we are with you and God is with you and your sister and instead of spitting into the wind my friend, just pray.
And even if you're in Canada, surely you can get a second opinon, no? Or a third? And if not in Canada, come to the US with your sister and get a second or third opinion. I will gladly give you the names and e-mail addy's of oncologists in NYC and in Charlotte, North Carolina if you need.
But whatever you do DON'T STOP FIGHTING. DON'T STOP PRAYING. DON'T FORGET YOU'VE GOT US AND YOUR SISTER HAS YOU.
Please my friend, do what you can, but booze and/or recreational drugs are not going to help your sister and your sister needs you now.
Be well and remember, my nic is in blue and I'm more than happy to chat with you about anything at all whenever you want.

I've got some, but so far, it's been too bleepin' windy to get it down! Though I must admit I was thinking more about weed control than warming the soil, when I got it. A lot of the time that's good for garden-work is also good for model plane flying, so I have to go with all the labor-saving tricks I can think of. I mostly prefer hay/straw mulch, but that's gotten so pricey I'm having to go with plastic and all the grass clippings I can scrounge.

Republican blogger has Al Franken's Senate campaign reeling
EAGAN, Minn. - Senate candidate Al Franken wants to talk about jobs, health care and global warming. Republican blogger Michael Brodkorb wants to talk about Franken's failure to pay all his income taxes on time.

Guess what everyone is talking about?

From the kitchen table in his tranquil suburban neighborhood, Brodkorb for the last year has used his blog "Minnesota Democrats Exposed" to launch a furious political assault on Franken. He's labeled the former comedian and liberal commentator a "mean-spirited and un-Minnesotan" candidate who's running a "desperate and ridiculous" campaign.http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080502/ap_on_el_se/fr anken_s_foe

Fox trumps Netroots; bloggers rebel
Barack Obama appearing on Fox. Courtesy Fox News.

The nation’s top Democrats are suddenly rushing to appear on the Fox News Channel, which they once had shunned as enemy territory as the nemesis of liberal bloggers.

The détente with Fox has provoked a backlash from progressive bloggers, who contend the party’s leaders are turning their backs on the base — and lending credibility and legitimacy to the network liberals love to hate — in a quest for a few swing votes.

In a span of eight days, Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY.) and Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean are all taking their seats with the network that calls itself “fair and balanced” but is widely viewed as skewing conservative. Fox Trumps Netroots

"Canada out of Af'stan, End Occupation Now!"

I'm sure the Mohawks saw the irony of some white kid moonbats decrying "occupation" on a sign on a First Nations reserve.

U.S. closes most of West Coast to salmon fishing

The U.S. government on Thursday closed almost all of the ocean off the West Coast to salmon fishing, clearing the way for governors of states hard hit by years of declining catches to seek federal relief aid for losses estimated at $290 million.

I still can't figure out "almost all" areas closed. That implies some ares will be open but I can't figure out which ones.

The Measure of All Things: The Seven-Year Odyssey and Hidden Error That Transformed the World

Alder delivers a triple whammy with this elegant history of technology, acute cultural chronicle and riveting intellectual adventure built around Delambre's and Mechain's famed meridian expedition of 1792-1799 to calculate the length of the meter. Disclosing for the first time details from the astronomers' personal correspondences (and supplementing his research with a bicycle tour of their route), Alder reveals how the exacting Mechain made a mistake in his calculations, which he covered up, and which tortured him until his death.

Another historical book, on determining the length of the meter.

One thing I didn't like about the straw was that the beatles adored it and feasted on my 'maters. They got over half the crop, though luckily it was a huge crop.

You can buy staples for the plastic but they are fairly expensive. I used bricks in the lower bed and will probably use some of the saplings we cut down up top kind of like quilt rails.

Right -- hay and straw here is running about $7.50 for a small (standard?) bale, and with a 1400-sf veggie garden, I need a LOT! I can sometimes get a few spoiled bales for nothing, which is great but not to be depended on. Never had trouble with beetles, though, fortunately!

As for bricks ... well, I scavenged all that were available here last year, when I redid the edge of my larger pond, and ditched the waterfall. So I'm stuck with the staples and any large rocks I beat the landlady to! (We're neighbors and good friends, so it's a friendly competition.)

Still prefer organic mulch, in the sense of what decomposes into the soil and improves it, not in the hippy sense. Lets the rain through, then you plow it in, and the soil turns a bit more into real topsoil from its sand origin ...

LOL!

It's a great read, but the meter is off of what it was supposed to be. They very carefully measured a transit across France to derive the length of the meter (1 millionth the distance from the equator to the pole). But the numbers were off, and in the days before error analysis, it was the scientist who made the error.

In fact their measurements were accurate, what they did not know was the earth is not a prefect sphere, and the measured the oblateness of the earth, but did not know how to handle the discrepancies.

A fishing thread... Wow! I love fishing. Did some deep-sea fishing in the US. Fun... But... we did fresh-water fishing in Russia. That was a totally different experience. And it was fun, too! Not nearly as many restrictions. It was also the time when I realized why my Gramps ( a non-drinker) brought a bottle of good vodka with him.. It was to bribe the "water-cops".

The math is beyond the scope of a board like this, but an "observer" (commonly known as God -- is required)

An "intelligent designer" is also required, Charles. It can be proven through math undertaken at a much more advanced level than that offered to a typical undergraduate, or even graduate student in the US.

Fascinating stuff. Etienne Gilson's commentary on Aquinas hit me with that same point, approached philosophically. There can be no ground of objective reality without the Observer. (I missed or misunderstood whole chunks of Aquinas before I read Gilson.) I wish I had the competence in math (and physics) to look at the problem from your angle!

this idiot comes off looking like a lunatic. he helped mccain, who kept his cool and moved on to take the next question.
that was a verbal assault designed to provoke mccain. these leftists are deranged . nothing is off limits to them. the audience was stunned.

I agree. His response was exactly the kind I'd expect from someone running for president. Vulgar, nosy, irrelevant questions like that shouldn't be dignified by answering them.

Sarge 1984

If you didn't get a 300, there's something really wrong.

I got 297. I had fire-guard duty the night before. Where I had to actually do stuff because two dykes decided it was fun to run from one barracks part to another. I had to catch the ijits.

For sure on that, she has to be pretty damn strong, too unless there`s (probably) a line holding up that monster King Salmon too.

re: #511 Killgore Trout

I hear that.

Funny fishing story.

Last year fishing at the Channel Islands, I got hit by the biggest fish in my life, doubled my rod over and the line went screaming out, it was great cause the guys I fish with are real fishermen, then I tightened my drag a little and wham my hook came off, they are still making fun of me for not tying me hook on right.

My avatar is a picture of one of the places I fish.

East end of Anacapa Island.

No, but I get tired of the "Paulian!" smear of anyone who ever agreed with him about anything. Thatt's what Killgore does.

I agree with you Ron Paul has many good things to say and is correct in so many ways it's to bad that the other 50% of him is just nuts or maybe I'm just nuts I don't know.

Like your avatar, very scenic, reminds me of the Olympic Peninsula here in Washington, lots and lots of islands.

BBev:
Ron Paul is coming to speak on campus of my university. I am going to see for myself what he is about, since conservatives and libtards seem to agree on hating the guy. Being an engineer, I am gonna go see for myself, and ask questions.

Go check some of Charles' topics on Ron Paul from September & October. There are some charming photographs of Ron Paul shaking hands with Neo-Nazi creeps and such. He seems to be their candidate of choice.

Thanks.

You got some good halibut fishing up there, monster halibut that is.

537 Natasha  Fri, May 2, 2008 5:58:09pm

OK. I fully intend on taking a couple of hours out of my finals and showing up at a Ron Paul speech at my school on Monday. Because I am sick that way, and I am curious. So... Anybody want me to ask him nobody else will have the balls to ask (aside of my own questions)?

538 BBev  Fri, May 2, 2008 6:02:37pm

Hey Real how are you doing. Sorry I have not sent you an update but I have had some problems, I have third degree burns on my legs and second degree burns on my ass. The pain pills are making me a Little loopy but I still worked 80 hours this week

539 Natasha  Fri, May 2, 2008 6:03:27pm

In case anyone thought I was a Paul-Bot.. No. Not even close. Curious. Just bloody hell curious...

Wasn't it you who predicted the use of that most vulgar word would become mainstream? I think you wrote something about the Vagina Monologues etc., that brilliantly explained it all.

Actually, yes, now that you mention it, I just remembered -- I did write a whole thing about "c*nt" a few weeks ago, about how the left was promoting it.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, but then many of this brood tend to utilize such phrases in everyday public speech regardless,so it's rather difficult to gauge the difference.
