Burqa Bandit in Philly?

Sat, May 3, 2008 at 5:50:22 pm PDT

We may have another burqa bandit case in Philadelphia, and this time a policeman has been murdered: Officer Shot, Killed After Bank Robbery.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia police said a veteran police officer was shot and killed in the Port Richmond section of the city on Saturday. Steven Liczbinski, 40, a 12-year veteran who had just been promoted to sergeant, was shot by at least two men shortly before 11:30 a.m. Saturday, authorities said.

He was responding to a robbery at a Bank of America branch inside the ShopRite at Castor and Aramingo. The men fled, and Liczbinski confronted them at Almond and Schiller streets about 15 minutes later. was shot multiple times with a high-powered rifle, police said. ....

Police originally described a man and a woman in Muslim-type garb and a man wearing a white hospital mask. The masked man had shoulder-length dreadlocks, but Officer Tanya Little said that could be wig. Ramsey said one of those suspects had been killed, but he did not know which one.

One of these days we are going to have to outlaw the wearing of burqas. Then watch the fur fly!

Seems the burka would be ideal for concealing a rifle in public.

That's near Lancaster County. Perhaps one of the notorious Amish criminal syndicates pulled this job.

Authorities said Liczbinski was married with two sons and a daughter.

How sad for this officer's family. Makes me glad I took the time to thank a police office just last night for his service to my community. I hope Sergeant Liczbinski knew his service was appreciated too. May he rest in peace, and his family find comfort now and justice soon.

Wondering when the State Department will contact the Philadelphia Police Department to advise "burka" is simply not an acceptable word?
"Religiously required total body cover" sounds about right to Condi and her crowd, wouldn't it?

At least the police department didn't call it "bank jihad" or Condi would have blown a fuse. But perhaps she is too busy forcing the sorry Olmert government to take down some of those roadblocks that they have the temerity to use to keep suicide bombers out of their population centers. Don't they know that the Palestinians are like the '60s civil rights activists to Rice's way of thinking?

Shame about the officer, condolences to his family.

37 Catttt  Sat, May 3, 2008 6:18:42pm
"I ask that we rally around his family and wrap our arms around them," Mayor Michael Nutter said. "He has obviously paid the ultimate sacrifice in serving his fellow Philadelphians."

The mayor declared 30 days of mourning in Philly and also asked that we pray for Sgt. Liczbinski and his family.

Will do, Mr. Mayor.

38 Buster Bunny  Sat, May 3, 2008 6:18:53pm

There was a time in American culture where respect for the law just went out the door, in movies and 'counterculture'. I have no specific date as to exactly when it began, but i think the Terminator series is a good guideline. In the first movie the cops were the 'good guys' who got their asses whipped by the machine, and in the second .. they were the 'bad guys' who had their asses whipped by the machine.

Ok its a singular reference, but it defines what happened in American culture. Somehow BETWEEN THAT PERIOD ... someone in hollywood decided that law, justice and respect should be tossed out the window in favour of .. a bad portrayal.

And America has been hurting ever since.

My thought go out to that poor cops family.

A: you are not sort of some super-programmer. Your site attracts a lot people because of the ideas; 99% percent of what you do technically could be done by any competent programmer (opposite of your music skills);

B: the McIntosh computer is not vastly better than the (Windows XP) based computers owned by 95% of your readers. Not only is the Mac not much better, bust people cannot afford a Lexus. Doesn't mean that you and other "Mac-holes" have to make people feel bad about their Dell or HP purchase.

As I understand it, the fleeing men were wearing the face-covering garb. I'm curious about details of their entrance into the bank. Did the burqa get worn into the bank? I can't see how the surgical mask could be worn around as normal, but I can see someone in a burqa doing so. Remember a month or two ago a Muslim woman sued a bank for stopping her from wearing a burqa into their bank?

I saw a Muslim lady with her family a while back, shopping for school supplies at Office Depot. She was wearing a khimar, which does not cover the face. That's it for me seeing anything approaching a burqa. It is much more common for me to see women dressed for tznius. They are usually stylish, but modest, and of course you can absolutely see their faces.

I took the written exam for SFPD a month ago. I figured, what the heck, it could be a good job. Not boring. My wife could kick back. Besides, on my present "job" I am being pushed to the edge of the herd, no doubt about it. Income and opportunities are trending downward. A lot more doors are closing than opening.

So, if any of you who think cops are dumb, (and I don't think anyone here does) let me assure you that the exam I took was easily the hardest one I have ever had. It took 3.5 hours, and the first hour drill was just on how to take the exam.

I got a good score. I am being considered. I have to pass a pretty tough physical coming up. I need to drop about 15 pounds and run 2 miles in 15 minutes. And then the background check.

Wish me luck. I'll keep you all posted.

As a Philadelphia Police Detective, I can say with surety that I am sick of wearing mourning crepes. We have had three officers assassinated in the line of duty in two years. The first of the three was Gary Skerski on May 9, 2006. The second was a good friend of mine, Chuck Cassidy, who was murdered on October 31, 2007, and now Sgt. Liczbinski's assassination today.

It's the whole "question authority" mentality they had. Now we have a generation of kids raised on this philosophy, and we wonder why people are so rude these days.

Yeah, but the whole "question authority" went straight to "defy authority" without any philosophical or intellectual stops in between.

Mob mentality.

Scary.

This is the FOURTH such incident to happen in Philadelphia the last year and a half:

Philadelphia bank: The report in the Philadelphia Inquirer is not explicit, so it's not clear if a niqab is involved, but one suspects so, for how else would "Muslim clothing" and eyeglasses disguise a successful bank robber:

A woman robbed a Center City bank yesterday and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash, police said. The robber, dressed in Muslim clothing and wearing a pair of silver eyeglasses, walked into the Wachovia Bank branch at Broad and Walnut Streets about 2:10 p.m. and gave a teller a demand note, police said. The robber escaped after receiving the cash, police said.

(January 6, 2007)

------------------------

Another Philadelphia bank: Five months later, a Wachovia Bank branch in Philadelphia is again held up by a woman in Muslim garb, though this time in the Juniata Park part of town.

A robber dressed in Muslim female clothing stole $700 from a bank yesterday in North Philadelphia. ... police said they were looking for a woman wearing gold-rim glasses in this case. The thief passed a note to a teller at the Wachovia Bank branch on the 1200 block of East Hunting Park Avenue in the Juniata Park section about 11:35 a.m. and fled on foot

(June 5, 2007)

-----------------------

Philadelphia real estate leasing office: Two men, dressed like Muslim women, pulled off an armed robbery today of a real estate leasing office in southwest Philadelphia, carjacked a van, and escaped in the van, only to abandon it and flee on foot. But an employee of the real estate company both pursued them and alerted the police. When the police caught up with the robbers, one of them, a 20-year-old, pointed a gun at Police Lt. Frank Vanore who shot him in the arm. The robber is listed in stable condition. (May 1, 2008)

-------------------------

Philadelphia bank, police officer killed: What is it about Philadelphia, burqas, and robberies? Here is the fourth incidence I am aware of, more than any other city:

Two men robbed the Bank of American branch inside the ShopRite in the Port Richmond section in the late morning today, then fled. When Police Sergeant Steven Liczbinski, 40, confronted them about 15 minutes later, they shot him three times with an AK-47 and he died soon after. Other police officers chased the two men and killed one of them. The police also searched a wooded area for another man and a woman connected to the bank robbery. According to an Associated Press report, "The man was described as black, stocky and wearing a white hospital mask. He had shoulder-length dreadlocks, but Little said officers cautioned that that could be wig. The woman, whose race was not known, was dressed in a head-to-toe light brown robe." Another report described the woman wearing "Muslim-type garb."

What separates greatness from mediocrity is concretion. Millions of dreamers come up with great Ideas every day they seam to, without fail, aways claim they thought of it first or, say that the achievement could have been done by others easily. This completely ignores the fact that one did but you.

It may have been the first comment but it wasn't very original. From your own hometown newspaper:

CALL IT 'KILLADELPHIA'?
Despite progress, the city's murder rate is No. 1 among big cities. Figures tell the story, but don't nail the solution.
By DAVE DAVIES
Philadelphia Daily News
AS Philadelphia approaches the new year and a new mayor, the murder rate remains an appalling blight on the city's reputation and a threat to our quality of life.
'
While shootings and other violent crimes are down from last year, there's only slight improvement from the 406 homicides recorded in 2006. As of last night, the city had suffered 391 murders in 2007, the highest rate per 100,000 residents among the nation's 10 largest cities.

It hasn't always been this bad. [Link: www.philly.com...]

Personally, I'd be a little less outraged over my 'insensitivity' and more outraged over the murder and mayhem which occurs daily on the streets of your home town. Maybe being tagged with a nic like that will do something about the problem. I have family that lives in that city that have had their mail taken from their mailbox and their identity stolen, and their homes broken into and guns and other property stolen. And now this, a police officer, doing his duty to protect the citizens which includes my family members, is executed; his gun still in the holster.
So fuck you very much.

I used to live in that area and since the last name of the fallen officer (Liczbinski) is the same as my brother-in-law and nephew, it seemed very possible that it was a relative of theirs. Sure enough, I received and email today. The officer was my brother-in-law's brother.

Holy cow! Now I see they arrested a man for the murder and his name is Warner. How weird is that?

And already, Floyd's relatives are coming out of the woodwork to be character witnesses. They claim they "can't believe" he would do something like this.

Uh-huh.

The high-powered rifle turned out to be a Chinese made assault rifle.

I wonder where you can get one from which corner store.
