86 doppelganglander  Tue, May 6, 2008 2:58:38pm

Drudge is totally in the tank for Obama anyway. What really matters here is that Obama has won big in a lot of states with large numbers of black voters, but most of those states are red through and through. He will never win NC, GA, or SC in the general. He can't seal the deal in the blue states -- NY, NJ, CA, PA, and probably IN. McCain could lose every black vote in America and still take all 50 states (not that that's going to happen, obviously). Obama is not demonstrating broad appeal outside of Berkeley, Cambridge, the South Side of Chicago, and the 9th ward of New Orleans.

Gotta love those Clintons, it would be great if the Republican candidate had even a quarter of their drive and in-your-face win-at-any-cost mentality. They are serving it up to McCain for 2008 in order to take the democratic nomination in 2012 but right now McCain seems too obtuse to get it.

In the meantime Barry seems pretty frustrated. Why don't these "bitter" white people get it? Why don't they too want to sip fine chardonnay, wear tasseled loafers, and understand Reverend Wright's historic pain? I mean don't they know Barry is ENTITLED to the nomination? Better get Michelle on the job...

Can you imagine the New York Times article about Hillary winning the nomination? "America is a racist hellhole of a country, where, basically, everyone still thinks black people should be enslaved."

Hillary won't get any criticism in the MSM if she is the nominee. Sure, they'll dump on America as racists, but they will circle the wagons around the Democrat nominee, whoever it is. The MSM does take sides in the primary, and can dump on Hillary up to the convention, though.

In North Carolina 50 percent of voters said the Wright controversy was important, and 48 percent said it was not.

I, for one, hope this continues PAST the convention.

Let whichever candidate that does not get the nod claim Racism, or sexism.

Let it continue into July. August. September.

Let the loser NOT let it go.

Let them tear one another apart until all that is left is their core: A Racist Marxist and a Sexist Socialist.

If that happened, John McCain probably wouldn't have to campaign, and by doing so, would make it more palatable for me to vote for him. Because every time he opens his mouth, I remember how much I don't like him.

So...campaign on to September Dems! Don't be ruled by the superdelegates! Truth to power!

Rightwingnuthouse is predicting a barry hussein victory in November.
That blogger seems to think Obama will whip McCain in debates and the electorate as a whole is sick of republican rule. Duh, I thought that the dems were in control of Congress the past few years? I'm no big fan of McCain, but an Obama presidency will be a disaster worse than Jimmy Carter. And I guess if you complain at any point you are picking on the "black" man. This country is going to hell in a handbasket. Exactly what have Reid and Pelosi accomplished, other than foot dragging and obstructionism? They promised to reduce gasoline prices, for example. Hahahaha- what a fecking joke.

154 neocon hippie  Tue, May 6, 2008 3:15:08pm

Reposted from earlier and dying McCain thread:

McCain is still the lesser of the three evils, and I will vote for him over Hillbama.

It comes down to electoral politics. In order for a Democrat to win in November, s/he needs to turn a number of red states blue and not allow any blue states to turn to red. This is a very tall order, esp for Obama. Not only is there no way Obama will turn Ohio or Florida blue, he will very likely turn Pennsylvania red. In the other direction the best he could do would be to turn New Mexico and Colorado blue. Point game set match.

UNLESS, there are a sizable number of conservatives would vote for Obama out of their hatred for McCain. Think about it.

Hillary has a much better chance of retaining PA and turning OH and FL. Yet I would still rather see her be the nominee rather than give Obama even the slim chance that he, with the help of disgruntled conservatives, could win.

Anyone who thinks Obama can win in November care to outline the electoral scenario?

You are welcome to my share of the mold cheeses except for the odd blue cheese salad dressing. Then again, I went undergraduate in Hoboken when it still had the Bethlehem Steel Shipyard there. One of the best "working men's" bars in the world a block away from the yard. They had the best liverwurst and coleslaw sandwiches in the world and the best birch beer on tap (yes, no alcohol, although that beer was there too and I certainly consumed more than my share). A real nice place for real people.

Personally, my attitude is that anyone who does not read at least one book a month is a traitor to our country and should be transported to England. Given the Dhimis and soccer louts they have there it might actually even be an improvement. I still find the statistic that 44% of all Americans do not read a book, any book, fiction or non-fiction, within the past 12 months to be a sad commentary on our society. During our Colonial period, the English booksellers sold more books in America than they sold in England. Given that the population in England was larger than that in America that says a lot. Perhaps it is still true on a per capita basis, but I find the 44% statistic sad. No wonder we elect idiots.

re: #154 neocon hippie

Easy. But first, a word about the risks with Hillary vs. the risks with Obama. Obama is a democrat. Hence, the risks. But that's about the size of it. While there are indications that he's not squeaky clean [he does come from Chicago politics], those straws in the wind are nothing compared to Hillary's long record of impossible cattle futures gains and so on.

Now---Obama has drawn a large and enthusiastic mass of young people into the political process. If they go on to vote for him in the general election, it throws off the whole electoral map conventional wisdom.

While it is far from a sure thing, there is the possibility that white working class democrats will vote democrat even if he's the nominee. It would depend on how he handles himself during the fall debates, and on the course of the war and the state of the economy.

Newt Gingrich is airing the possibility of a Republican meltdown in the fall. If he's alarmed, it's overconfident, to say the least, to argue that Obama cannot win.

He has a better chance than Hillary. His negatives aren't verging on 50%, and they aren't set in concrete. Hillary also has the problem that by now, her only path to the nomination runs through a sewer of broken rules and trickery. And then she's supposed to win back the support of all these people in the general race, running against moderate democrat [ok, ok, technically republican] McCain?

re: #206 unrealizedviewpoint

Conventional wisdom is that more black men are in prison than in college, but the truth is that five times as many attend college. I'm sure the high school drop out rate is quite high as are the number of births out of wedlock by blacks and the numbers of single mom families. Thankfully at least, many black women are strong anchors and hold things together quite well. IMO the whole gangsta crime thing is cultural. Education is frowned upon and people like Bill Cosby are derided while the poverty pimps Sharpton and Jackson manage to intimidate corporations.

Also there are more poor whites than blacks in absolute numbers. Sure seems like the Jews and Asians have much better family ties and know the importance of education. And a pity that so many bright Asians are victims of reverse discrimination in higher education. I'd have no trouble voting for a Bobby Jindal regardless of his hue or ethnicity.

It pains me to say it, but in the O'Reilly interview, the Hildabeast seemed to have got her act together. She handled his speedy, mildly confrontational repartee rather well. McCain is going to have to start stretching his stride if she should manage to outpace Sir Vapid in August.

The only way to learn what is true is to read. I really went bonkers after 911. Read everything I could find and came to the very real conclusion that 911 happened because we aren't muslims. Since then I have read books by returning vets, and embeds. Before 911 I read about Hitler and the slaughter of the Jews. I must have over 100 books just on that subject. I believe in reading and thankfully my children have followed me in that. Where we live is a very small community but the library here will transfer books from the bigger libraries for us. However, there are some books that I want to own, actually, there are a lot of books that I want to own.

You are being sarcastic, right? Obama has absolutely NO experience at anything. He has never run a business, been an entrepreneur or even held a real job other than a period of time rabble rousing. He knows nothing of the American Black experience because his black roots are in Africa. He knows less than nothing about economics and has no military experience - or even a basic knowlege of the military.

He is specifically NOT honest. Witness his poor excuse for sitting in a pew for 20 years, listening to Wright spew his hatred, racism and filth week after week, even trusting his children to that BS - and yet he expects us all to believe he didn't hear it? That he was never aware of it:? BS.

Just how would you expect him to "move the economy?" And do you have ANY clue of what bringing the military home at this moment in time would mean down the road? Just exactly how many more lives would be lost when they had to go back in?

You mean the black guy, Jamal (what is he, Muslim?) and his comments with respect to Obama on the Caliphate News Network?
What Jamal said was that there are two sources of support for Obama -- one comes from blacks (92 percent of blacks vote Obama, and that would include all the dirt poor, uneducated blacks), and the other support comes from the Leftist white "educated" portion of the population. Thus, there are two segments here (certainly not identical in terms of "education). Where Obama fails to pick up support (according to the Caliphate News Network) is from whites without a college degree. (Interestingly, in other states outside South Carolina, this voting pattern doesn't necessarily hold.)

Is not a Muslim, but will surrender to them because he likes them better than Israel,

Paid for his Chicago property the same way Hillary paid for her cattle futures,

Will raise your taxes significantly which will, in turn, crush the equities markets,

Has more experience at drug use than governance,

Makes manure taste good, and

Will, with a Bonkey Senate, have activist judges to the left of Ruth Bader Ginsberg flying out the door.

Hillary is going to stay in this untill at least June.If Florida and Michigan are added in in some manner, she is right in the thick of this race. My gut feeling is that she has something major on Obama, and will be soon dumping it.

And if Florida and Michigan are NOT added in then you are going to see the dem nomination process wind up in court for disenfranchisement of the voters.

Geez! Kids these days.

I'm not sure he has been in the Senate an entire two years yet. And when he ran for the Senate seat that he currently holds he specifically told the voters of the state of Illinois that he would NOT be running for POTUS in 2008 and if elected would serve out the entire term that he was elected for.

Um, nope. They got to vote. I saw the results reported, right there on TV.

There is absolutely no law that says what a private organization (the DNC) has to do with the results. They get to make their own rules, which is why theirs are different from the RNC's.

The US Constitution says that the voters of ALL the states have a right to be heard.

Not when it comes to the presidential nominating process it doesn't. There's not a single word in there about it.

"What? I already said he wasn't in the Senate but he made his stance clear."

When Obama was campaigning for his Senate seat the Boston Globe reported the following:

In July of 2004, the day after his speech at the Democratic convention catapulted him into the national spotlight, Barack Obama told a group of reporters in Boston that the United States had an "absolute obligation" to remain in Iraq long enough to make it a success.

"The failure of the Iraqi state would be a disaster," he said at a lunch sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor, according to an audiotape of the session. "It would dishonor the 900-plus men and women who have already died. . . . It would be a betrayal of the promise that we made to the Iraqi people, and it would be hugely destabilizing from a national security perspective."

Later, of course, when the Surrender-As-Quickly-As-Possible option became "acceptable" -- Obama began to endorse the Cut-and-run stance. And any reference to any "absolute obligation" to remain in Iraq became buried. Yet another ringing endorsement for Obama's "honesty"?

No they don't but I still don't see a problem with them getting equal pay.

Two problems, the money isn't coming out of your pocket, so the decision of how much of it is to go to whom is not properly yours. Second, there is no objective way to determine what is "equal;" too many variables are involved. When such a determination is forced on an employer, the only one who takes the risk if the decision should be bad, he loses a portion of his liberty.

408 offendi  Tue, May 6, 2008 6:09:05pm

If you look at American history you will see that there have been mediocre and awful Presidents in the past, but the country survived. The problem today is that radical islam is not like past crises and issues, although it bears a striking resemblance to the Nazis. This analogy fails when you consider radical islam transcends the usual nation-state boundaries.

The stark issue is that this is a death-seeking theology, unlike communism. Their deaths then are acceptable, even desirable, in addition to ours. Our problem is that our society has become soft and more focused on consumer consumption than solid values, morality, and patriotism (yes, I know, a good deal of the people here
subscribe to the latter). People seem more concerned about Miley Cyrus pics than radical islam.

As a result I truly think this is the most important election in my lifetime. We need a President that will educate, lead, and influence, the entire nation, rather than just fight with Congress.

Of the choices my feelings are that we have slim pickings, but maybe I misjudge McCain.

re: #466 pingjockey

I served my country for twenty years, pay my taxes, help raise my family. I do not shout "Goddamn America" from a pulpit. I do not steal a parishoners wife, when the wife and husband came for counseling, I do not live in a 10k sq. ft. house in an exclusive neighborhood. I could go on and on. The man is a race baiter and scam artist.

Wright served his country, too. He pays taxes, too. God does not play favourites, just because you want to call yourself a Christian does not mean you are going to be dealt a nice house and cars. Christian or no Christian you have to work for those things if you want them. And so what if he is rich? King Davd was filthy rich? You any better? I don't agree with everything he says, but I haven't done good to any degree close to what he has, and neither have you.
