Bottom line is this: Billary will take it right to the convention
if for no other reason to hold political power over BO's head.
Billary has get to get their buddies in positions of power in a BO
cabinet and they will take it to convention to force concessions from him.
They will try one last ditch effort at convention to get Florida and
Michigan to count and if that fails, force their operatives into BO's
government. This will go all the way to the convention folks.

“And as we’re talking today, the death count in Myanmar from the cyclone that hit there yesterday has been rising from 15,000 to way on up there to much higher numbers now being speculated,” Gore said. “And last year a catastrophic storm from last fall hit Bangladesh. The year before, the strongest cyclone in more than 50 years hit China – and we’re seeing consequences that scientists have long predicted might be associated with continued global warming.”

The character, judgement, and decision making skills of Barack Obama is relevant to this campaign. After all, he could be our next President, thus voters have to ask themselves why Obama's association with racists and terrorists are NOT relevant to their voting decision? Because that's what the polls say, that many voters don't think these facts are important in their vote, which is disturbing. Are today's voters that easily fooled?

I have thought about taking some time off to watch the fun in Denver but, I really want to use my time off for something constructive and maybe even entertaining. To watch these idiots beat the hell out of each other just is not going to be very entertaining - only an exercise in toleration of bs. My bs toleration level is very low any more - after the 20 minutes of an inconvenient truth (I know it was 90 minutes) I watched my tolerance for bs is just flat out gone. Sorry to the inventor of the internet but, you have ruined my fun and I just cannot forgive you.

Self employed people get to pretty much define their "net" income. If you start making too much money, you can do any number of things to reduce the net. Buy new equipment, rent a new office, hire some people, lease a car with your business name on it. Expense them on Schedule C.

My last post from the previous thread after most had jumped up...
Why the Republicans will probably lose the 2008 election cycle. No platform, lately Republican's elected officials have lost vision of what the Republican party stands for. They are in love with Democrat lite(TM), bigger government, more taxes, more government intrusion. They have lost lost all connection with Newt Gingrich's "contract with America" and middle America. Most Americans have difficulty understanding any difference in domestic policy between the two parties. Only in foreign policy is their any big issue, the WOT and the occupation of Iraq. The Republicans should launch and publicize a comprehensive platform describing how they will approach the near recession, energy independence, education, social security, entitlements, illegal immigrants, etc. We are getting near zero leadership from any of our major parties on any of these important issues. If the Republicans would simply make a stand on issues, and vigorously defend a conservative platform, it would work wonders for the Republican party....

Fox News is trying to low-ball me. Grrrrrr.
Earlier today they requested some of my photos to put on a show tonight. I said, "Sure! But how much will you pay me for one-time broadcast rights?" The answer? "Pay you? Well, bloggers should be just happy to get the exposure." I insisted on some payment -- I'm long out of paitence with just supplying these people (i.e. the MSM) with content as some sort of over-eager volunteer. They caved a little, asked how much -- I named a VERY low and more-than-reasonable fee. I even sent them the requested photos pre-emtively to speed up the process for their production teams.
That was four hours ago. Haven't heard a peep out of them since.
They're probably out scouting around the blogs trying to find some substitute free content from a photographer more willing to debase him- or herself for the publicity.
Maybe they'll come crawling back when they realize: When you want the best, you gotta pay.
And the blogosphere is not some sort of free supermarket of content you can glean at your leisure.
My rule of thumb is: I'll let a fellow blogger re-post my photos for free. But the MSM? Pay up or shut up.

Sounds like you are between Holland and maybe Muskegon if I remember my map correctly that would be Grand Haven. My Dad worked on the carferries out of Ludington - is the last one still even there? I have not been back there in quite a while. I have so many good memories of Michigan and we were all over the state - camping and enjoying God's green earth. Of course we went other places too but, we really went all over Michigan - UP and LP. We were trolls but, we loved the North.

I have to agree. I'm a classically trained vocalist with 15 years of formal training, and a background in opera and classical performance. At one time I made quite a bit of money with my voice, but I disliked having my creativity stunted by other people. I stopped performing when I realized that I just wasn't enjoying it any more.
These days, my singing is limited to bawdy Irish pub tunes and laments from the auld sod.

Well, it all depends on the author getting half a word in edgewise on John Stewart, which I hear is nigh-on impossible. The interviews, from what I've heard, are basically just another excuse for his sarcastic jibes, and the interviewee has little chance to acutally say what they want to say. So it's quite likely John Stweart will monopolize the conversation or at least guide it in other directions that won't allow mention of individual bloggers.
Like I said, I never actually seen the show.
I can't really get them to pay, since there's no plan to show any of my images.

You did good Grammy, My employer did the same thing with the electing a CEO form of government, worked well to start and went downhill since, most of the county is praying that our legislature will change it but it will take years... Too much power in one hand.
We have a County Exec in King Co. WA. Home to Seattle and 2000 more ballots than voters in an election that gave the govenorship to the (D) by 129 votes.
Ron (tax to the max) Sims tried pushing on executive authority a 60/40/10 rule for rural King Co. 60/40/10 rule is 60% percent of any property must remain undisturbed native vegetation, 40% improved land with no more than 10% (of the total) out of the 40% impermeable surface, buildings pavement etc...
Gotta' love it!

He told me that he prefers giving up the occassional gig as opposed to lowering rates...if people think they can get it cheap, or for free-your entire brand goes down the toilet. No it did not. I'm surprised how badly Hillary lost there.
"G-C" -
Look at the DEMOGRAPHICS. Lemmesee now - "D" Primary, 40% of registered "D's" are African-American, voting at about +/- 90% for Senator Obama. That translates into a baseline of about 36% of the vote.
AND, I cannot blame NC "A-A" voters for voting for Sen. Obama, as I was a bit "tribal" in my 2000 vote for Gore-Lieberman. It ALWAYS feels good the first time one of "YOURS" is promoted for high office. To win, Sen. Obama had to win another +/- 15 percentage points. That equates to about 6% winning 10% of the non "A-A" vote, 12% equaling 20% of that vote, and 18% equaling 30% of that vote, and insuring a win. NOT as hard as it might look. That is all.

After all, they were busy trying to game the GOP primaries by pushing one candidate or the other in open primaries, and now they're feeling the heat because the open primaries combined with the delegate process is not only producing a split in the party, but it's exposing every ugly truth about just how bad the Democrat party is these days.

Under Obama's tax plan self employment taxes in Oregon go up to 60%. I just started making money for the first time in my life and I will have to severely limit my income to stay under the threshold were i'll have to pay taxes. I can quite happily live off very little money.
My wife and I have talked about disinvesting if the Dems win. We are the offspring small business owning, military serving families. Her father was an owner of a major insurance companies agency after the Army and my father owned a trucking company after the Navy. She is an Attorney, and I am an Engineer. She is currently a managing partner and will eventually be a rainmaker for her firm. However, we own rural legacy properties and may cash out and go back to our roots to get a headstart on the inevitable. We will not be slaves to the socialists and would just as soon raise turnips and hogs in Appalachia while home schooling our children. We may have peace row while that way, at least until they impute income from our property or press us into service for the Glory of the State as experts in our respective fields.

Java — programming language
Originally called "D", but with the connotation of a near-failing mark on a report card the language was renamed Oak by Java-creator James Gosling, from the tree that stood outside his window. The programming team at Sun had to look for a substitute name as there was already another programming language called Oak. "Java" was selected from a list of suggestions, primarily because it is a popular slang term for coffee, especially that grown on the island of Java. As the programmers drank a lot of coffee, this seemed an appropriate name.

It still goes back to the electoral college math. Can Hussein turn any red states blue and how will he do it? He would have a very tough time keeping PA blue, and if it turns red, the race is over right there. He's not going to capture OH, and I don't see how he could win FL either.
I think he believes that he can create a different electoral map. For instance, he may be able to win NC, VA, NM, and CO. Nonetheless, I believe he will probably win most blue states anyway.

He's won Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois. The fact that he didn't win the usual blue states in the primaries doesn't mean that he wouldn't win them in the general. Very unlikely that NY, NJ, CA and other big states will turn red.

There's some glitch -- relatively recent -- that allows people to actually own land in Baja. You don't get leases, but title. I think they require you use funding from Mexican banks to secure loans ... and they require loans. You can't simply pay cash. Much of the western coast of Baja is owned by Americans now.
They call it South San Diego.
I sure can't afford to get stuck with a deed that doesn't transfer, etc. I'd rather just bunker down and buy something small in the US. The idea of going passive solar with a well and septic is very, very appealing.

I thought only Mexican's could own property in Mexico. American's technically buy thru a proxy --usually a real estate agent who holds the title in their/company name and the American pays the "agent" who holds the title.

Dialog from ' The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson ' : His guest was Lee Marvin. Johnny said,'Lee , I ' ll bet a lot of people are unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima ...and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy Cross and were severely wounded. '
' Yeah , yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. Bad thing about getting shot up on a mountain is guys getting ' shot hauling you down. But,Johnny , at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew... We both got the Cross the same day , but what he did for his Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. That dumb guy actually stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to move forward and get the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by , with mortar rounds landing everywhere and he stood there as the main target of gunfire so that he could get his men to safety. He did this on more than one occasion because his men ' s safety was more important than his own life.
That Sergeant and I have been lifelong friends. When they brought me off Suribachi we passed the Sergeant and he lit a smoke and passed it to me , lying on my belly on the litter and said , ' Where ' d they get you Lee? ' ' Well Bob... if you make it home before me , tell Mom to sell the outhouse! '
Johnny , I ' m not lying , Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever knew. The Sergeant ' s name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know him as Captain Kangaroo. '

The producer told me that had John McCain on about 8 times and I saw John Bolton on once. Bolton made mincemeat of Stewart.
He has conservatives on all the time. In addition to Bolton and McCain, he's interviewed Gingrich, Santorum, Brownback (I believe), Paul Bremer, Arlen Specter (not particularly conservative, but a Republican), Trent Lott, and lots of others. Basically, people go on if they have books to sell or are campaigning for something.

You can do it in an open primary. When you're limited by state/statute to voting within your party it doesn't work so well.. . You'd have to switch to opposing side and lose your General Election vote. I'm in a state where we can't do that without committing to a certain side in the General Election, so I watch from the sidelines and cheer those on who are in states that allow themselves to be voluntarily... um. Hillary as POTUS would not be a disaster. She would not fundamentally change anything, as she would wish to appear tough and is well-versed in statecraft, for better or worse. No change is better than...
Obama as POTUS would be a huge question mark. It could well be a pivotal change in American politics, a committed step toward decline, and, even if Obama does not actively pursue appeasement and retrenchment in foreign policy and ultra-liberal policies at home, the question of how Obama would be perceived by the world, most particularly our enemies, is important. If an Obama POTUSship signals to the Islamic world that the US is weak and willing to bend over, this is a significant foreign policy problem.
With Obama, it would be like JFK before the Cuban missile crisis. Remember that JFK, while viewed as a lightweight by the Kremlin, had along with the Dem. party at that time good anti-communist credentials, while Obama has no credentials. Our enemies will view Obama as Pres. as an opportunity to test the US or worse.
Let's hope for McCain, despite that he is not the ideal candidate. Hillary is worse, but at least she would not do any damage until the next election. Obama? A complete unknown. He could be Commodus of American history.

re: #388 buzzsawmonkey
The hinting at some deeper relationship is a time-honored ploy whereby skilled staff people convince freelancers to lowball themselves. One of the most common is, "If you give us what we want at an under-market price, we'll come back to you!" Others are, "Think of the exposure!" "We'll make it up to you later!" etc.
They are all bullshit. Pure and unadulterated. Do not believe them.
If you have the goods, you are blowing nothing. They will come back to you; in fact, that's why they are talking to you now. They are simply trying to con you into accepting less than they know the stuff is worth.
Like I said, it's not so cut-and-dried. Sometimes, in fact, the exposure is worth it. Especially in a case like this where it entails essentially no additional work on my part: I've already taken the photos, psoted the report, got linked over the blogosphere, and the whole thing has already become "yesterday's news." If I "stand by my principles" (which is in fact what I did) then they may very well say, "Well then, too bad. You had your chance" (which is what appears to have happened -- I still haven't heard back from them).
And the offer of working with me in the future did not seem like necessarily a hollow promise -- I've had my stuff on Fox News enough times now that perhaps they are thinking of having someone "on the front lines" be a regular contributor. Stranger things have happened
(cough-Markos-Moulitsas-becomes-CNN- pundit-cough)
The "stand by your principles" theory is a form of brinksmanship that assumes the other side will cave in; but in the harsh world they often don't cave in. I may "have the goods," but they also "have the goods" in the form of the nation's highest-rated news network, millions of viewers, satellites orbitting the earth, the ability to dictate memes and talking points in culture. And all for the want of some pocket change, I'm throwing that all away. See what I mean? They need me, but I also need them.
Any other photo bloggers here, would you be able to resist having your pictures shown on tonight's Fox News -- for no recompense other than a mention or credit line?

It depends who is doing it. Washington had the idea of some farmer coming in and doing the job for a term and then leaving, but he meant a farmer more akin to himself: someone who had military and political experience. I'd rather have someone seasoned handling affairs than someone with none. With Obama, the biggest worry still is, despite all the negative associations, does he have enough experience to do the job (and if he had more experience and accomplishments to his name, the bad associations could be put in context). One should not knock experience. Obama has very little.

Well, I'm not regretting standing by my principles. I did insist on payment. My only point of dissention here is that by doing so, I will not automatically cause my negotiating partner (Fox) to cave in to my demands. What generally happens is that they don't cave in at all, will drop me like a hot potato, and go off to find some other sucker who will give them their content for free.
In other words: Standing by your principles does not mean you'll come out on top at the bargaining table. Often as not, you'll end up with nothing -- except your pride.

It is downright scary when someone as totally non-starryeyed as Christopher Hitchens does NOT realize that yes, Obama IS "like that" and always has been and will continue to be if catastrophe befalls and he winds up in the White House. If he weren't "like that", he'd have walked out on Wright, refused to touch Farrakhan with a dead skunk on the end of a 10 ft pole, and ditched the WAB of a wife long before he embarked on this campaign. He thought he could get away with it. He still does. And the horror is, he may be (w)right!

I don't know about anyone else, but back in the day as a youngster, when it came to voting on a Friday night for which party we were going to attend, we were hoping for more than just two - and there usually were more. The small parties were filled with the usually suspects - small like minded arrairs, while the big parties were diverse in attendance. I found the big parties more interesting since there were always fights and then calm as the band began to play again.
I guess big parties are a part of being young and when we get old we wish for the smaller ones.
I must of been are stiff, my high school Friday nights usually involved hanging at the fire station waiting for the action to start when the parties broke up and bars closed.

OT, maybe...
We have opened a kids art show last Friday - we do it for the fourth year, the links are below and just to show you what a pleasure it is... The place is one of the oldest private clubs, dedicated to arts. Today went there to check, and have some giggles, as usual is the case, while reading the guest book (we've had some rather prominent guests in the past)... The guest record was "GUNMEAT"(no signature). So one's looking at the kids art (2 to 15 year olds) and that's what comes to one's mind?
See the show - it MUST go on!

Naw. Hillary has B Hussein O right where she wants him. Billary figured out they committed campaign malpractice too early in the race to possibly win it- this year. If she can't foul his nomination now, she is sure to put B Hussein O out of contention for 2012. His flaws and lack of experience is out there, which if someone wakes up Johnny Maverick he might be able to take advantage of in the general.
Billary knows that the democrats like lemmings will go over the cliff to keep african-americans in their coalition, but will kick themselves later for losing in a year they are supposed to win. And then they will return to- Hillary.

I honestly believe that no matter who wins he/she will not give in to the terrorists. Nor will they pull us out of Iraq prematurely. All the shit they're (BHO and Hillary) spouting now is nothing more than campaign rhetoric aimed at their moonbat base.
Once the nomination is decided they'll have to start wooing the other side, since McCain will definitely hammer them if they do not.
It's like the old saying about libs- They run to the far left to get the nomination, then reverse course and run to center if they want to get elected.

Don't let the numbers fool you - or that the nomination depends on the delegates and not the popular vote. The pundits have already decreed that Obama should get the nomination - facts, logic, reasoning, and electability be damned. Ignore Wright, Rezko, Ayers, Doern, and all the rest of the leftists, marxists, communists, socialists, and anti-American-ists who Obama has chosen to associate and surround himself with, these pundits say.
The time to talk about Wright and all the rest is over - he survived the onslaught of criticism over Wright, they say.
Nonsense.
Obama doesn't have the character or fitness to govern as President. The pundits want to obfuscate that issue and try to get Hillary to bail so that they can then direct their nonsense at McCain.

Simply, Obama has enough of a delegate lead that any reasonable scenario for the final states does not get Hillary enough delegates. Small states => few delegates.
Even if Hillary wins the remaining states by popular votes that will not be enough to stop Obama from still accumulating some more delegates. She needs somewhere in the neighbor of 150 more just to catch up...
Thus her need to seat the MI and FL delegates. She just can't get there without them...

She may be veep, but she won't play second fiddle. Of course there is the theory that if she loses the nomination she will try to help McCain win, thereby leaving her a window of opportunity in 2012.
But maybe she'll realize her best chance at becoming President is to lurk a heartbeat away.

Just to follow up:
Harold Ickes, Clinton’s chief delegate strategist, said in a telephone interview that the senator is likely to finish the primary and caucus season on June 3 “substantially less than 100 delegates behind” Obama’s total if those two states are included.
[Link: www.politico.com...]
She needs MI and FL just to pull up close to Obama, not to overtake him! That is supposedly how she is selling herself to the remaining superdelegates.
Not a strong sell IMO.

Don't let the numbers fool you - or that the nomination depends on the delegates and not the popular vote. The pundits have already decreed that Obama should get the nomination - facts, logic, reasoning, and electability be damned. Ignore Wright, Rezko, Ayers, Doern, and all the rest of the leftists, marxists, communists, socialists, and anti-American-ists who Obama has chosen to associate and surround himself with, these pundits say.The time to talk about Wright and all the rest is over - he survived the onslaught of criticism over Wright, they say.
Nonsense.Obama doesn't have the character or fitness to govern as President. The pundits want to obfuscate that issue and try to get Hillary to bail so that they can then direct their nonsense at McCain.
Hillary can still make a compelling case for her electability. Particularly if she wins big in states that she's projected to win anyway. If the popular vote polls break her way before the convention, so much the better. Since Hillary has invested so much into this campaign, and since the Presidency is the sum total of her personal aspirations, she might as well go on to the bitter Götterdämmerung.

CNN's Jeff Tubin was sayin' how it is unprecedented for one riding to withhold the votes (-- it causes me to start wondering -- just what is going on? Ballot box stuffing by Obama's Teamster/Mafia people? A backroom deal -- so that no matter what Hillary's votes are, it won't "matter" since Lake county will suddenly come out and claim -- we have more votes -- and then manufacture "votes" for the Obamanation -- via the Cemeteries of Indiana? Was is this a rigged election by a certain county in Indiana? what's going on here?) I don't trust the Obamanation any further than he and his Teamster/Mafia/arab pals can be kicked.

With the exception of a student handing out fliers for the Harvard Muslim Student Association (or something like that) and a couple "questions" on Palestine, it was generally civil and undisrupted.

re: #892 hermeneutics
Ok well, the setup was that the two of them gave opening remarks (about 10 minutes each) then the floor was opened to questions. The majority of the questions revolved around the label of "Totalitarian Islam" and what that means, and how that effects us. Pipes sees the biggest problem as such: There are three segments of Islam - the violent type and the anti-violent type are the two that we know and can identify (compare Osama vs. Ayaan Hirsi Ali). The third is the most dangerous to us - those who seek legal political, etc. methods to change a society to be more open to the more harsh translation of the Koran (or totalitarian translation, if you will).
They took questions from a couple individuals from the local Muslim community who felt offended by the topic, and that they hadn't been invited to be on the panel. Pipes encouraged them to stand up with the brave few who denounce totalitarian Islam... otherwise they have no right to complain about others identifying the problem.
There was a question posed to Dr. Brook that I especially liked: shouldn't we be more conciliatory in our approach to the Palestinian/Israeli conflict in order to win the hearts and minds? The gist of his answer was that no, we really shouldn't. We should be confident in our moral and cultural superiority and destroy the threat, rather than looking for change from within. Only once we are confident that we are right and they (those who would impose Shari'a upon others) are wrong can we gain the respect of those in the Middle East that are worth the effort.

As the fate of a nailbiter Indiana primary -- and possibly the course of the Democratic race -- hung on his city, Gary Mayor Rudy Clay said just now that it might take a while yet to finish counting the vote in Lake County, which includes Gary, and said tonight his city had turned out so overwhelmingly for Barack Obama that it might just be enough to close the gap with Hillary Rodham Clinton.
"Let me tell you, when all the votes are counted, when Gary comes in, I think you're looking at something for the world to see," Clay, an Obama supporter, said in a telephone interview from Obama's Gary headquarters. "I don't know what the numbers are yet, but Gary has absolutely produced in large numbers for Obama here."
Clay said the results were late coming in from Lake County because of the large numbers of absentee ballots that had to be counted -- about 11,000. Under local practice, all of the cartridges from voting machines in Gary and nearby East Chicago are first collected at the local airport before being driven to the county headquarters to be tallied with the results from the rest of the county, he said. He said there were no major technical problems holding up the count.
"It takes a little time. We want to be sure that every vote is counted fair and right," he said. "I just talked to the director out there and they are working like junkyard dogs to get that done as soon as possible. They are taking some time but I told them to do it right. That's what taking the time."

I was listening to our local talkshow on the way home earlier this evening. The hostess (Victoria Taft) got a call from a gentleman here in town, if what he said is true, we are in big trouble folks.
I live in Oregon. We have a closed primary so I get a Republican ballot, anyone registered as Democrat gets one of theirs.
The gentleman who called said that he had "joined" operation chaos and filled out a new registration, changing from Republican to Democrat. He said that he mailed the change in during the first week of April. Three days later, he got a call from a young man. The young man told him that they had received his request and wanted to know who he was supporting. He told him Hillary Clinton. The election clerk did not enter his party change. He never received his verification and got a Republican ballot in the mail.
That sounds to me like corruption right in the elections office. Victoria Taft mentioned going to the local news with the story.
