Hizballah: Lebanese Government Declared War on Us

Thu, May 8, 2008 at 8:10:27 am PDT

Things are heating up in Lebanon after the government began a crackdown on Hizballah’s illegal telecommunications network: Hezbollah says Beirut government declares war.

BEIRUT, May 8 (Reuters) - The Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah said on Thursday the U.S.-supported Beirut government had declared war by targeting its communications network.

Hezbollah launched a new street campaign on Wednesday, piling pressure on the government after it declared the network illegal and removed the head of airport security, a figure close to the group, from his post.

Supporters of Hezbollah and its allies have blocked roads leading to the airport — Lebanon’s only air link to the outside world — and other main streets, paralysing much of the capital.

The head of airport security in Beirut was a Hizballah puppet? Lovely.

I thought you couldn't declare war on a non-governmental group? That's what they told us when after 9/11...

2 Silhouette  Thu, May 8, 2008 8:11:34am

So from this we know they declared war on the government first.

Sometimes the only way to know what they're doing is to read what they claim others are doing to them.

About time. Let's see if Syria will turn up the heat i.e. assassinations by car bombs...

Reuters had to make sure that everyone knows who the REAL bad guy is here... that bad old US trying to start a war with a popular "people's group" again. Really, what was the purpose of labeling the Lebanese government as "US-supported"?

Hizbullah wants you to think that they're doing this because the government attacked them first. Nothing could be further from the truth. Hizbullah clearly initiated the violence, and is engaging in clear acts of war by trying to blockade the international airport, rampaging through Beirut, and trying do whatever it can to take down the government so that it can set up its own thugocracy in South Lebanon and Southern Beirut.

24 moshavnik  Thu, May 8, 2008 8:23:40am

This reminds me very much of black September when the Palestinians tried to take over Jordan (Which is logical because Jordan is the Palestinian state). In that case King Hussein massacred several thousand Palestinians and drove out quite a few more. In Lebanon's case the problem is more complicated as the army is ineffectual. The international community really dropped the ball here. Israel destroyed much of Hizbullah's weapons in 2006 and according to the UN resolution it was illegal to resupply them. Since then Iran has been resupplying them via Syria and no one has lifted a finger to stop them.

Well, the truth of the matter is that the Hizbullah are Syrian and Iranian backed terrorists - which would be an uncomfortable meeting of the Axis of Evil in the media, so they'll instead note that we're supporting the duly elected sovereign government of Lebanon.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that the State of Israel is a "stinking corpse" that is destined to disappear.

"Those who think they can revive the stinking corpse of the usurping and fake Israeli regime by throwing a birthday party are seriously mistaken," the official IRNA news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as having said.

"Today the reason for the Zionist regime's existence is questioned, and this regime is on its way to annihilation."

Ahmadinejad further stated that Israel "has reached the end like a dead rat after being slapped by the Lebanese" - referring to the Second Lebanon War in the summer of 2006.

I didn't know we were the only country supporting the Lebanese government and I didn't know Hezbollah was just a Lebanese group.

And why didn't Reuters mention this?:

King Hussein of Jordan had a far stronger military and was better equipped to go up against the PLO and Arafat in 1970 than the Lebanese government of today. Hizbullah is far more sophisticated and dangerous than the PLO was in 1970. Hizbullah has thousands of armed thugs, many of whom were trained in Syria and/or Iran, possess heavy weapons, and have managed to turn South Lebanon into Hizbullahland where Lebanese forces are wary of even entering.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said on Thursday that presence of US troops in the Persian Gulf region and Iraq is the root-cause of rampant 'insecurity and instability' in the region.

A lot of talk today......

The Zionist regime is a puppet for bullying powers, he said adding that the global arrogance established the Zionist regime 60 years ago in Palestine to continue its historical straggles with the Muslim world but after the Lebanese nation slapped it in the face, they are like dead rats.

"If any regional countries assist the Zionist regime, they will burn in fire arising from nations' hatred," said the president.

"If some think that they can make any change in the global calculations, they are in mistaken because nations around the world will bury them ," concluded President Ahmadinejad.

Lebanese Government Declared War on Us

If in fact the Lebanese government were truly serious there would be no Hezbollah to talk about!

If the Lebanese government were truly serious no one would have to use the excuse they are weak.

When Israel fought the War of Independence they had everything going against them. They were primarily a rag tag army made up of many tired men who never held a gun in their lives; who just left the scene of mass slaughter of everything they knew and everyone they loved. Their past was gone and only today represented their futures. Imagine! Yet, how many armies did they chase away?

Truthfully, I am sick of hearing about those who neither have the appetite to fight terror and the inner stuff to make it work. Hezbollah can be defeated. And there lies the rub...........

44 coquimbojoe  Thu, May 8, 2008 8:29:54am

It would be ironic if the next middle eastern war is started by an Arabic country against a Muslim group. It certainly will draw Israel in. The Hezbo's will immediately attack Israel if the hostilities begin against them from the Lebanese government.

Lebanon is a picture of what most of Europe will look like in another 10-20 years, Maybe sooner for France. Back in the 70's it was a Christian majority nation, with a large muslim minority. The [bigoted word]s are never content with that, and started that civil war to assert islam over the Christians. Now that I think about it, this started during the Carter administration. Anyway, this is the same direction that England, France, and many other European nations are taking right now, pandering to the muslims, until they decide to take over.

The US has been sending $ millions in military aid to Lebanon, including training. Whether that's been enough to take on Hezbollah just yet is not clear. If attacked by the Lebanese army, Hezbollah will almost certainly respond by attacking Israel with rockets.

AMEN

I have made my face like flint.....
~ Isaiah

Well, the neighborhood bully, he's just one man,
His enemies say he's on their land.
They got him outnumbered about a million to one,
He got no place to escape to, no place to run.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully just lives to survive,
He's criticized and condemned for being alive.
He's not supposed to fight back, he's supposed to have thick skin,
He's supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in.
He's the neighborhood bully.

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land,
He's wandered the earth an exiled man.
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn,
He's always on trial for just being born.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized,
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad.
The bombs were meant for him.
He was supposed to feel bad.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he'll live by the rules that the world makes for him,
'Cause there's a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac.
He's the neighborhood bully.

He got no allies to really speak of.
What he gets he must pay for, he don't get it out of love.
He buys obsolete weapons and he won't be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Well, he's surrounded by pacifists who all want peace,
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease.
Now, they wouldn't hurt a fly.
To hurt one they would weep.
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Every empire that's enslaved him is gone,
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon.
He's made a garden of paradise in the desert sand,
In bed with nobody, under no one's command.
He's the neighborhood bully.

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon,
No contract he signed was worth what it was written on.
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth,
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What's anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin', they say.
He just likes to cause war.
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed,
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed.
He's the neighborhood bully.

What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers?
Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill,
Running out the clock, time standing still,
Neighborhood bully.

No, I only experienced 7.0 + on the Richter scale earthquakes while I lived there. I was about 350 miles north of Chaiten, maybe more... The only thing I know is, like Mt. St Helens, its gonna mess up some beautiful countryside. Unlike natural disasters in other parts of the world, Chile will handle this well and professionally. Don't expect to to see anything like the tragedy we are seeing in Burma. The Chileans have the training and infrastructure to take care of their people.

I haven't really thought of what's going on down there other than to think of the nice countryside being chewed up. I haven't worried for a minute about it becoming a big human tragedy.

They would loot the 'improvements' made by the Jews over the last 60 years and in a year or two, when the place had degenerated into an 'Escape from New York' type situation, they would blame the jooooooos.

There is no media bias, none at all....

TUCKER CARLSON: It's gonna be such a great election; it has been so far.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Especially when you have the media loving one candidate as much as they love Barack Obama.

CARLSON: But it's more than love. I mean, it's the kind of love that anybody who's been a 9th-grade boy understands this species of love. Do you know what I mean?

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Wow.

SCARBOROUGH: No, it's the truth. It's all-consuming.

CARLSON: It's red-in-the-face, I-think-about-you-when-I-go-to-bed, too embarrassed to stand up, it's sealed-with-a-kiss love. I mean, it's real, it's palpable.

SCARBOROUGH: No, it really is.

BRZEZINSKI: Wow! What are you guys talking about?

Do we have the appetite to fight terror and inner stuff to make it work in Iraq?

We did. However we did it expecting our brave boys to wear tutu's and kid gloves.

But the question remains, do the Iraqis? (have the appetite to fight terror and inner stuff to make it work)

I understand why strategically it is in the best interest of the US to have terror obliterated throughout the ME. However it takes inner balls from those who live there more than it does for us! Sadly, in our lifetime I don't think we will see it.

Here is another thing. There are those who appease terror with smoke and mirrors and those who do it openly. Couple that with lack of desire from those in the ME to fight for what is right making sacrifices onto themselves not onto others that stands in the way of any real hope.

US military aid to Lebanon

The US has been sending $ millions in military aid to Lebanon, including training. Whether that's been enough to take on Hezbollah just yet is not clear. If attacked by the Lebanese army, Hezbollah will almost certainly respond by attacking Israel with rockets.

Another thing to consider is that Hizbullah's actions might need to be seen in concert with the US/Iraqi efforts in Iraq - specifically Basra and the oncoming Sadr City operation. Iranian efforts are getting hamstrung by the US, so they need to relieve the pressure and play asymettrically with the US. Lebanon is the most likely choice since that country is a natural for operations since it borders Israel and Syria and Hizbullah has carved out Southern Lebanon and the Bekaa for its operations.

As for how much money the US has pumped to assist the Lebanese military, one also has to recall that the Lebanese military took months to fight Fatah al Islam in one refugee camp before they could finally bring that fight to a successful conclusion. Hizbullah is far more dispersed and far more capable than Fatah al Islam.

I'm not saying that the Lebanese military couldn't win that fight, but it would get mighty bloody might quick. And yes, Hizbullah would try to suck Israel right back into the fight - which shouldn't even have happened because Israel should have taken care of business in 2006 when facing a similar situation.

127 Spiritualized  Thu, May 8, 2008 8:49:06am
Supporters of Hezbollah and its allies have blocked roads leading to the airport — Lebanon’s only air link to the outside world — and other main streets, paralysing much of the capital.

Possibly, but the Lebanese army do have carte blanche to flatten entire city blocks, like they did last year when they renovated that "Palestinian refugee camp," and the world media yawned in unison.

"No dialogue is possible if there is a refusal to recognize Israel," Napolitano said at Israel's stand at the fair, the European Jewish Press reported. Napolitano added that there can be no "rejection of the reasons for [Israel's] birth or of its right to exist in peace and security."

Like the Paris book fair in March, the Turin fair is honoring the modern state of Israel on the 60th anniversary of its creation. Israel's stand was swamped by hundreds of people, many draped in the Israeli flag, with one group holding a banner that read: "I feel Jewish today."

Letter to the Jewish Nation from the French Commander-in-Chief Buonaparte
(translated from the Original, 1799)

General Headquarters, Jerusalem 1st Floreal, April 20th, 1799,
in the year of 7 of the French Republic

BUONAPARTE, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF OF THE ARMIES OF THE FRENCH REPUBLIC
IN AFRICA AND ASIA, TO THE RIGHTFUL HEIRS OF PALESTINE.

Israelites, unique nation, whom, in thousands of years, lust of conquest and tyranny have been able to be deprived of their ancestral lands, but not of name and national existence !

Attentive and impartial observers of the destinies of nations, even though not endowed with the gifts of seers like Isaiah and Joel, have long since also felt what these, with beautiful and uplifting faith, have foretold when they saw the approaching destruction of their kingdom and fatherland: And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads; they shall obtain joy and gladness and sorrow and sighing shall flee away. (Isaiah 35,10)

Arise then, with gladness, ye exiled ! A war unexampled In the annals of history, waged in self-defense by a nation whose hereditary lands were regarded by its enemies as plunder to be divided, arbitrarily and at their convenience, by a stroke of the pen of Cabinets, avenges its own shame and the shame of the remotest nations, long forgotten under the yoke of slavery, and also, the almost two-thousand-year-old ignominy put upon you; and, while time and circumstances would seem to be least favourable to a restatement of your claims or even to their expression ,and indeed to be compelling their complet abandonment, it offers to you at this very time, and contrary to all expectations, Israel's patrimony !

The young army with which Providence has sent me hither, let by justice and accompanied by victory, has made Jerusalem my head-quarters and will, within a few days, transfer them to Damascus, a proximity which is no longer terrifying to David's city.

Rightful heirs of Palestine !

The great nation which does not trade in men and countries as did those which sold your ancestors unto all people (Joel,4,6) herewith calls on you not indeed to conquer your patrimony ;nay, only to take over that which has been conquered and, with that nation's warranty and support, to remain master of it to maintain it against all comers.

Arise ! Show that the former overwhelming might of your oppressors has but repressed the courage of the descendants of those heroes who alliance of brothers would have done honour even to Sparta and Rome (Maccabees 12, 15) but that the two thousand years of treatment as slaves have not succeeded in stifling it.

Hasten !, Now is the moment, which may not return for thousands of years, to claim the restoration of civic rights among the population of the universe which had been shamefully withheld from you for thousands of years, your political existence as a nation among the nations, and the unlimited natural right to worship Jehovah in accordance with your faith, publicly and most probably forever (JoeI 4,20).

Hezbollah's ally Amal warned that the situation could get out of hand.

"It is clear the majority is seeking an escalation and wants to push the country toward a civil war," an official told AFP. "What we are trying to do is calm down the situation."

An airport official said all flights had been cancelled until Thursday afternoon and it was unclear whether traffic would resume later.

As-Safir newspaper, close to the opposition, said the situation was a "stark reminder for the Lebanese of the dark days of the civil war."

"The two camps have crossed all the red lines and are heading toward an armed confrontation," added Al-Akhbar, also close to the opposition.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul Gheit repeated Cairo's support for Siniora and implicitly blamed the opposition for the crisis.

"The party that is pushing for confrontation and which persists along this path with disregard for civil peace will surely bear the historic responsibility for its actions," he reportedly told Lebanese majority leader Saad Hariri.

Saudi Arabia also warned those behind the latest incidents to "reconsider their position, and to realise that leading Lebanon towards turmoil will not bring victory to any party except extremist external forces."

Yes, the US elections of 1980, 1984, 1988, 2000 & 2004 were all tainted by "irregularities, fraud, intimidation, deception, vote-rigging, and disenfranchisement."

But the elections in Venezuela, Cuba, Iran & "Palestine" were all flawless, transparent, and Democratic, with absolutely no fraud or irregularities. Carter has certified them so.

The small Jewish community in Iran did not celebrate Israel's independence. Siamak Morsedah, head of the Jewish community in Iran told AFP that the community saw no need to celebrate, especially since Israel was "killing innocent Palestinians" in the Gaza Strip.
The Jewish community in Iran, he added, does not agree with Israel's conduct in the Strip since it constituted what he called "inhumane behavior"; nor does the community feel the need to mark the Jewish State's independence – "We are Iranians," he said. "Israel's independence has nothing to do with us."

ranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Thursday that the state of Israel is a "stinking corpse" that is destined to disappear, the French news agency AFP reported.

To Ahmadinejad:

As long as deep in the heart,
The soul of a Jew yearns,
And forward to the East
To Zion, an eye looks
Our hope will not be lost,
The hope of two thousand years,
To be a free nation in our land,

JM: Well, I think they would fully understand that I will not allow Israel to be destroyed. And I will do everything possible to protect the state of Israel from being, “wiped off the map,” as you know the president of Iran has repeatedly stated as his nation’s fundamental belief and policy. And I will not sit down and talk to this Iranian president, who restates that commitment, whose country is exporting into Iraq most lethal devices, apparently, according to General Petraeus, training, even, terrorists in Iran to go back into Iraq, jihadists. And so this is a nation that must be restrained. And they have to understand...I’m not talking about obliteration, I am talking about, Hugh, that the consequences of unprovoked attack on a free and democratic nation are very severe, and that the price they would pay would be far greater than any success that they might enjoy. And I will not specify exactly how we would react, because then, I think we’d be telegraphing our punches. But have no doubt of our dedication to the independence and freedom of the state of Israel. I’m sure you know that down in the southern part of Israel, on the border with Gaza, they are launching rockets quite frequently into Israel, into a town in southern Israel, where the children have a fifteen second warning time.

Please, please, God, let the Lebanese Christians gain some foothold in this conflict, and may Hezbullah be wiped out completely.

Don't suppose the United Nations is interested in the fact that a terrorist group has control of an international airport. Seems like a prescription for travel disaster to me.

To think it used to actually make the news when terrorist groups like Black September or Bader-Meinhof or the Red Brigades took over airports. Now it's just an excuse to remind the world of the evil Bushitler, who props up the repressive Lebanese government as it deprives brave Hizbullah freedom fighters/community organizers of their precious human rights.

Nothing to see here, people. Move along.

Looks like that Hezbo airport security guy still has his job:

The latest round of tensions were sparked by the government's decision earlier this week to confront Hezbollah by replacing the Beirut airport security chief for alleged ties to the Shiite militants.

Hezbollah and leaders of the 1.2-million-strong Shiite community, believed to be Lebanon's largest sect, rejected the decisions, and the airport security chief kept his job.

Any Chabad houses around? I go to two of them at different times. Some moonbat-ish congregants, but more Republicans and generally pro-Israel. Since the Rebbe was pro-Israel, the rabbis are as well.

His answer, "Al who?"

He seriously had no idea what Al-Qaeda is.

Wherever Hezb'Allah goes, someone is always declaring war on them. I wonder what Hezb'Allah is doing to engender such animosity? Not that the UN cares about such reasons or anything.

I seriously wonder how long until the US does get out of the UN. It's not like the patience of the American people is infinite when it comes to such a corrupt, clueless, and classless organization.

Lebanon: the first "suicide bomb" state

294 Petero  Thu, May 8, 2008 11:01:13am

Well nothing new here. There are a few things to note here: 1) Once again the world negotiated a cease fire with islamoterrorists. There are now 2 UN resolutions calling for disarming all NGOs in Lebanon which included Hexbollah. It was the means by which Israel agreed not to level the entire country in retalliation hezbollah's actions last year. Finally the Lebanese government decides to be proactive in this regard and we find out that not only does hezbollah have no intention of abiding by the terms of the cease fire but they will wage war against their Lebanese brothers who seek to enforce it. Once again the Dhimmi UN is shown to be useless.
2) This whole notion of "US backed" is absurd. For the last 100 years the Islamists have waged (succesfully in part) a campaign against secular muslims, christians and other people who shared values with the West in Lebanon. The Christian majority of Lebanon disappeared. Lebanon's ongoing civil war which has been in remission for a few years has absolutely nothing to do with the US other than the fact that the US, as do most states in the world recognize the legitimacy of one group and not the other. Referring to the current government as US backed is akin to referring to Hezbullah as a "Carter backed regime".

Even being completely and totally self centered and not caring about our colleagues over there you'd think that they would pay attention to the area so that they would know if we would be getting our check from them this month.

Nope. One of them commented that she didn't have the time to pay attention to, "Stuff like that." I just said that I liked to know who wanted to kill me and excused myself from the room.

Selpaw, do the Christian Arabs pander to Muslims because they are afraid of them, or because they really hate Jews? I haven't been able to figure this one out. The Muslims treat the Christians in Bethlehem horribly, and as you know, Bethlehem's Christian community is all but gone. Bridget Gabriel, a Lebanese Christian who is pro Israel, has explained that while in Lebanon, she was taught to hate Jews but when she was wounded and brought to an Israeli hospital for treatment, she realized how wrong she was. My child has Lebanese Christian friends who seemed hostile to Israel until they returned to Lebanon two years ago and had to deal with Hezballah - they changed their minds fast!

Yes, I have read Bridgette Gabriel's stories and I love her. Interesting about your child's friends.

I don't know much about the history of the Lebanese Christians. It would be nice if we could have ONE friend in the region! ONE neighbor who doesn't want to slaughter us all.

My opinion is I am tired of excuses. Everyone has a free will even if they are intimidated or afraid. Think of all the great revolutions were people said enough is enough and fought for what is right and true! (doing so under the very worst conditions with everything against them) Nothing is impossible. On this very thread I gave an analogy of the rag tag Israeli army that beat off massive Arab armies in the war of independence. Yet all I hear is this army is weak and this army can't do it. BS!

Yes indeed the Christians in Bethlehem are treated horribly but unless the masses speak out I promise a Mosque will be built a top manger square. I promise this is inevitable! Also, it is not popular to say this but until Christians ( not all of course) begin to despise Muslims/Islam more than they hate Jews nothing will change.

It takes truth to move a mountain but when truth is spoken even the tallest mountains can be diminished to nothing more than a mole hill.

307 TalkinKamel  Thu, May 8, 2008 2:58:15pm

re: #297 American Jewess In Jerusalem

Yes, Selpaw's right. Excuses get tiresome. Whether the Christians in the part of the world are pandering to Moslems because of fear, Jew-hate or too many generations of dhimmitude, eventually it either has to end, or they must resign themsevles to being defeated, kicked out of their home land and despised both by Jews, and by those Christians who haven't adopted the Dhimmi role.

Sometimes you have to make touch choices in life. I wish it wasn't so, but that's how it is. Certainly, they're not going to go anywhere if they continue to grovel to the Palestinians. Look at the war Hamas is fomenting in Lebanon right now.

Unfortunately for us, jihadists aren't always frothing at the mouth lunatics. Sometimes they're cold, calculating lunatics who can forego the immediate gratification of taking down a plane for a longer term strategy. Since planes and passengers are generally only inspected before takeoff, not after landing, one wonders what a security service headed by a member of Hizballah has caused to be smuggled into London and Rome.
